Looks like pretty easy job for someone like you to do it. You could offer to replace it at a discount. You probably can do 3 cars in a day easy. It is a common issue and it is a big hassle to have to leave the car at the dealer for a quick job like this.
Nice video. Any worries about the intake gaskets, once you've removed the intake? Is it possible to get new ones in there with the small space you've created by removing the bolts and nuts at the intake/head junction?
Nice diy I don’t think you have to loosen the intake manifold you can actually use a e wench to access that hard to reach bolt , little room to swing the wrench but lot less time to do it without swivel socket etc.🇨🇦
I have a lil spot where u pointed 2nd , however it is dry, like it has been there for years and hasn't spread or gotten bigger so I'm guessing it's old.
Ugh, I just ordered the water pump kit from FCP and was thinking there must be something else I need. This gasket is it. Would be great if you put references to the part numbers in the description when you do these videos. I know they will be make/model specific but in this case I have the same car you are showing in this video. Thanks for the great how to videos.

nice video, could you include taking the engine cover off and the top plastic? Also no torque specs, if not in the video can you post a comment or add it to the description?
You DO NOT have to remove the intake manifold or even move it out of the way all you need is a swivel head to access the bolt. Also if you remove the other coolant hose on the right hand side it will allow you to clean the housing mating surfaces away from the car. This makes it easier instead of trying to do it all while tugging on the hose thats still connected to the housing.
1/4 swivel socket works fine. Magnetic would be the best. Or if you have skinny fingers like I do, it will be doable. Good comment. But this dude is one of my favorite mechanics. he works by the book and has lots of knowledge in the cars 🚙 . Keep wrenching man.
Hey man, Some oil has seemed to have leaked onto my vanos solenoids area but has not affected them. Wondering if it is ok to spray degreaser over that area without damaging other stuff?
You can't use magnet on aluminum bolts. Because they deform under torque, you must replace them or risk breaking after reuse. Intake doesn't need removal if you use E socket with built in swivel. Replace the plastic coolant barb with inexpensive aftermarket aluminum. FCP Euro sells one with coolant hose already attached. Plastic barb will crack with age anyways, and the Oring inside it will be worn and torn during removal. Do NOT use OEM aka Elring gaskets, they are the ones leaking at 60k miles. Use other brands that are not junk brands for longer lasting results.
My guy, The FCPeuro kit is using an Elring gasket and received 5-star reviews. The only other option is a genuine BMW. Is that what you're recommending? I'm in the process of replacing mine. TIA
@@BrixChris 5 stars after how many miles? It fits because it is OE. But how long before it leaks again? Elring and OE are one and the same. Get Victor Reinz or Felpro.

Torque specs for those bolts are 22nm. And you may use joint extension instead of removing manifold.
I was thinking that ha
This is the perfect time to replace the coolant flange from thermostat to engine head . Why did BMW create such a cheap plastic part ? Excelent job !
whoever BMW sourced as their gasket vendor should be FIRED. All the gaskets are garbage.
How is it that bmw can build a state-of-the-art engine and fail with the f*king rubber gasket?
Thank you! The video presents step by step in details. Well done!
Dude. You always do a great work. But be careful working on the street. Find an empty parking lot spot or something. God bless you bro
This is a whole lot easier than the BMW M54 OFHG replacement.
Agreed😉
I seen it done as Ponga Pandit
mentioned its fiddly but does work. Its anyone's preference . I take it, it has a electric water pump. Cool video👍👍
Yep fully electric water pump, it is faster for me to lift intake manifold
some good points, interesting you went by removing the headers, most people don't I@m about to attempt this, good tip on depreassurnig the water
I did this and lucky I followed your method as I dropped a couple of tools, and a 1/4" could not budge it, I needed to pull the header !
@@AdrianJayeOnline Headers are the metal tubes that lead from the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converters, I think you mean the intake manifold

Great video! Cleanest way so far I've seen. Any suggestions on how to remove the 1st bolt when it is stripped already? Appreciate any suggestions.
I’m afraid you’ll have to remove coolant hose that goes to cylinder head bolted by x2 10mm, and then hammer e10 socket or e11 on stripped bolt

Hey man, Some oil has seemed to have leaked onto my vanos solenoids area but has not affected them. Wondering if it is ok to spray degreaser over that area without damaging other stuff?
Sure, no big deal
Question? Would bad vanos solenoids cause bad timing codes and misfires?
Absolutely
Do you have to drain the oil?? Like how did you clean when you took off the oil filter??
Shop towels, you don’t need to drain oil, even if you do there are still gonna be oil in the oil filter housing
The bolt covered by the manifold kicked by butt. I ended using the old because the first threads where stripped.

do you really need to remove the manifold? I've seen vids of people accessing that bolt behind the manifold with a 1/4" u joint and extension
