Saw the Kings live in Oakville in the early 70's. They are a band that where good enough to make it to the top. Don’t know what happened but the world missed out on a great band. My sweat shirt says "I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands" and The Kings are one of them.
Thanks Alan, we weren't around in the early '70s but add a few and you could've seen us for sure. We have a cd from those days, "The Lost Tapes of a Seventies Bar Band" which was recorded at the Flamingo on Kerr St. It's pretty awesome.
I live in Oakville and they have performed at the annual downtown Midnight Madness event many times through the years (even as recent as the year before covid). I run into Zero (wearing his usual hat) walking along Lakeshore in Downtown Oakville all the time. He's a very humble guy. Always happy to chat.

The first time I heard “switching to glide” on the radio I immediately went out and bought the album! I let the rock band I was in at the time listen to it (I was the drummer) and they liked it but because we had no keyboard player they wouldn’t play it. I told them we could still play it because we had two guitar players but I was overruled. Keep on rocking till your strength is gone!
Very cool comment EC, yeah the goal was always to have a keys player, they add so much to the sound. And you coulda done it with two guitar players for sure. The drum part is so weird it would've driven you nuts!

Thank-you so much for this song! (Still crank it till this day) Absolutely an awesome piece that brings back memories of a really good time. Thank you galaxy531!
Probably my favorite song of all time. Awesome.
Very kind of you to say that Will, thanks so much!
EXCELLENT! One of the most versatile classic rock party songs ever made!
Thanks KK it does have legs for sure!
Great performance of a great song! Thanks for posting this!!
It was a fun night getting the old band back together Deacon Blue, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks so much for sharing this! I can’t get enough of this song! Come back and see us in Detroit soon!
We'd love to do just that KidRidrych!
Doesn't matter how new or old any live version is sure to get the blood flowing, great quality and thanks for the new post!
Thanks, although we've seen some live things not worth showing but this is!
This is an insanely awesome LIVE version of "This Beat Goes On / Switchin' to Glide" - wowsie! Forever preserved. I believe that this song is THE greatest pop-rock song of all time. It should be recorded in every possible format known, then sent out into outer space for all Alien lifeforms to receive and understand the greatness of the human spirit and what a pop band is all about!
It was at a one-off charity event with all four original guys, randompost11, and was a lot of fun for us! Thanks for the awesome comment!
Awesome video! Good to see you guys still out there. Still Switchin' to Glide here in NE Ohio. Rock on!
Thanks Brian, although this isn't new, we thought it was worth sharing!
WCKG in Chicago played this all the time. Like Dr Music said, a staple. I admit I play this every weekend especially when I’m working. Thank You for this song, and for still rocking after all these years. Songs today aren’t the same. Stay safe
Thanks for the great comment Mike, and yes Chicago radio was huge for us including the mighty WLS AM. It's too bad about the decline of rock radio but we hope that it can come back somehow.
I've always loved this song. All these years later and it still rocks.
Thanks for your kind comment @msaltzma!
Ir song makes me dance. Dance n song were created by God Almighty to give joy and show praise! Ur song makes me Dance no matter how bad I may feel! It's a True gift to be able to inspire this feeling. Whether tou understand t and it or not God uses it for joy
It makes you happy and that makes us happy Shelby! It sits right is the dance groove at 125 beats per minute, gets your toes tapping!
Amazing!!! Love the Kings! Thanks a lot for the video.
We love you Agg Cavan!
Man brings back memories. This was a good jam! Still is!
Thanks jmo, it does seem to stand the test of time pretty well!
The official weekend song of South Ontario!
We are very thankful for the airplay we get in Ontario and across Canada and the US, and Rickertsred is a tasty brew to boot!
I need to use my reading glasses ! I thought “weekend song of South Central (Los Angeles)” lol!!
All of Canada.
Of North America!
What a great video filmed at a benefit for a very important and worthwhile cause. Thanks for posting this one.
You are welcome GD100, it was a fun night and we are happy to be able to share this one!
Still crazy after all these years!Keep on rockin' guys!
Doing our best BabaORileyII!

Thanks for checking it out Larry!
Great video! I hadn't seen this before...keep on rockin' King's!
Thanks Darryl, it was a fun gig!
Met Zero and David at a show years ago - and I'm happy to confirm they're as cool as you'd expect.
Thanks CusterFlux, we're pretty normal
Write a song like this MASTERPIECE and you'll never have to worry about when or where your next meal is coming from!
#LOVETHEKINGS
If that were only true Michael...!
Mr. Diamond still has the pipes... I like the "pump up the crowd" energy to the opening of this version. It must be a great feeling to have created and secured an enduring entry into the classic pop/rock genre of the 1980s music milieu.
That show was the better part of 20 years ago John, we think we are still able to bring the goods and that Dave can still sing his ass off....
The top comment was talking about tearing up with this song and I had a similar feeling tonight when I found out these guys are Canadian. Think I was a little sad I wasn’t old enough to really grow up with songs like this but happy now. This song is absolutely one of the best ever made.
Great comment Shaun, thanks so much for it...we certainly appreciate hearing from younger folks who like our music, we hear rock is dead all the time and while it may not be the predominant cultural force it once was, tons of folks still like it a lot and that's great!
Damn! Sounds Great!! And.. One of Americas favorite feel good songs❤
Thanks Jay Man, yeah we agree it still sounds great!
thanks eternally for the auto'd pics. LOVE YOU!
Our pleasure Max!
Awesome! Pure rock and roll energy !!!
Thanks showtimecharlie, it was a fun gig!
OMFG I'VE FINALLY FOUND IT !!! I've LOVED this song 🎵 ❤ since I was like 14 or 15 years old !!
My baby brother Sean and I took turns on who sang lead on which part !! He was 9 or 10 so I usually let him have his way so he wouldn't cry and tell mom I was being mean to him lmao !!
I lost him 4 years ago, but hearing this brought back a flood of tears and most importantly a flood of memories!!! Idk if you guys are still out here making music and memories, but I hope you are ! !
And for the record I'm singing lead this time Sean !!
Thanks for such an incredible comment Tiffany, and for sharing such personal memories! Amazing story about you and Sean, so sorry to hear about your loss but it sounds like you can remember him with a smile. We are still at it and you can go to our channel and see our latest and deep cuts as well. And here's the official video for "Beat/Switchin'": ruclips.net/video/sxkjvKBPQjo/видео.html
After all these years they still kicking ass!!
To be honest 79tazman, this video is from awhile ago now, but it was fun to play with all the original members again... there are more current videos on our channel.
I've mentioned this elsewhere..This is the 1st song i played along to when i bought my first Les Paul. Zero, you have such a gorgeous Les Paul !! I'm 67 and vividly recall your appearance on American Bandstand
Hi Sam, Z here, doing Bandstand was unreal, just great, and yeah thanks my LP is a '59 but a real Frankenstein, re-necked and it was smashed to bits by a roadie and then brought back to life and it's now better than ever. One amazing night was when Joe Bonamassa played it in Toronto around 10 years ago: ruclips.net/video/kkxiXx8C4-w/видео.html
Very well done, Rock on!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Bob!
Such a great song and performance
Thanks Robert, it was a fun night!
Love you all and thank you for posting!
Oh we love you too Lesley!
Nothing better than addictive jam tunes
It skips right along for sure Michael!
Epic song and performance🤘🤩🤘
Thanks so much Vince!
It's pretty awesome.
thekingsarehere I have their LP's as well as CD's. I'll try to find your suggestion.
@@isalan It's on all the digital outlets
I live in Oakville and they have performed at the annual downtown Midnight Madness event many times through the years (even as recent as the year before covid). I run into Zero (wearing his usual hat) walking along Lakeshore in Downtown Oakville all the time. He's a very humble guy. Always happy to chat.
Love them to this day and on.
First heard them in 1980 I think.
That would be when it came out...so probably so Walt!
@@thekingsarehere I have NEVER stopped being a fan and have been influenced musically by THE KINGS and and will forever be in the kingdom of fans. --BB
@@brettbasil Thanks Brett for your kind words and sticking with us!
@@thekingsarehere thanks for the feedback! I agree that keys can add so much texture and sound. The music that I write and record today has some keys which makes a big difference.
@@drumgk Agreed for sure!
Remember the old man taking us camping and floating down at ellora gorge in the summers , we would pack up the Ford ranger and he would have this cassette on and we would just crank it , I could damn near cry thinking of the great memory’s . god bless this southern Ontario band.
People tie a lot of memories to music Ryan and that is a great reminder of how important those memories can be, thanks for the great comment!
This is what r and r is all about. Passion for life!
We enjoy what we do for sure John... thanks!
Thank-you so much for this song! (Still crank it till this day) Absolutely an awesome piece that brings back memories of a really good time. I think it's an anthem for those of us who are, you know, OLDER. Look up Ford Theater in Wabash, Indiana. It's a very nice venue that I think you would like playing.
Music triggers so many great memories 65raven, and we were fortunate to come along when rock music still ruled the airwaves. The midwest was huge for us with radio out of Chicago and we always loved playing out there, so we'll look up that theatre and hope someday soon this pandemic will be behind us.
Great song then and now!!
Thanks so much James!
You guys deserve to be in the rock and roll hall of Fame, just looked at all the comments you guys have, and after 30+years, I'm not the only one who loves the king's lol, hope you guys hit the road again and play the Syracuse NY area.. my grandkids even love this song.. peace out guys
@@James-bd5qn Thanks again James, our song did get into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame which is pretty great! Doubtful to the extreme about the one in Cleveland but thanks for your kind words and say hi to the grandkids!
Such a great "twofer" This Beat Goes On & Switchin' to Glide! I always loved this! Brings back so many fine memories. I have the album "The Kings Are Here" and it's awesome
Thanks Kevin, much appreciated...and yes "The Kings Are Here" has some other good tunes as well, we still play "Don't Let Me Know", "My Habit" and more!
Nothing better than 80's Bar tunes.....
Happy to be a part of it Mr Q!
Hands Down... The Absolute Best Song of the 80's... 🚨 🚨 Got the Top Down & Cruising... Lunatics Anonymous Forever!!!
Thanks for the great comment @ctownmytown, love it!
A masterpiece for it’s time.
Thanks tukkus2, hopefully it still stands up!
Never heard of the band until i picked up a copy when diving through vinyl records at a flea market, now its one of my go to albums best $2 find ever ever had, the band definitely deserves more recognition
Thanks Silent CG, very cool way that you found us, those vinyl copies usually sell for more than two bucks, you did great!
they sound great
Thanks b67y8y, we worked hard at playing live!
they wrote a classic.
And we played it too!
omg. are you the kings!!!
I'm a grown man talking like a schoolgirl. sorry. this, my sharona and Donny iris are so underappreciated.
you guys still kick ass!!!
Thanks Skip63, yeah but My Sharona was a huge hit compared to ours...!
Great job. You're having so much fun and all the bits are bang on.

Hey you guys! Still loving this song! Upto 1136 listens now! Never gets old! "The skies the limit so SWITCH ME TO GLIDE!!!!!!
Can that possibly be true Shelby?
My middle name is replay. I have you on my computer, my tablet and my cell phone. It's embarrassing to admit but I like to play u in stereo. I'm 62 babe, I got all the time in this world n I have about 25 songs I listen to n dance to daily. Music is the joy of life. It's vibrations are food to our souls. When I find one that touches me this way it becomes part of my regular routine. Might sound sad to some, might sound silly or unbelievable to others. But its just how this happy old lady rolls boys!! Rock n Roll Forever! 70's Rule!!!
@@shelbyrichardson214 It was a bit weird but the same day you posted this, another woman named Shari posted that she had listened to it 600+ times on her devices as well. So we told that you both had big numbers and posted that on our Facebook page ( FB The Kings Are Here) of course we didn't use your full name, Shelby, but it has received a big reaction...we love it!
Love this song....can't seem to get it off my mind!,,that's a good thing! I'm the guy that had "Nothing Matters But The Weekend" on my Sea Ray boat on Lake St.Clair,.....I just found an old t shirt with hardly anything left on the front, but clearly on the back it says" From A Tuesday Point Of View".......LMFAO!!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!
We have found that old T-shirts like that have mysteriously shrunk in the closet... weird!
Hell yes ! I love this song !
And we love you, good luck!
Thank you!
🙂
Awesome performance!
