He was on his way to south america when they (the US iirc) revoked his passport effectively making Russia his prison, because the people making the decisions at the time were assholes like that. They knew the Russians would immediately seize the opportunity to use him and that he would have no way out at all.
The US inadvertently created a Russian asset , and instead of doing anything to get Snowden to return they leave him there to rot like they were doing to Assange.
I can see why someone who hasn't been watching this situation from the very beginning would think he wanted to be trapped in Russia (leaving his girlfriend behind).

I don't get Vaush's hatred of Assange here. He vaguely gestured to a some imagined comments and behavior towards being pro-Russian but doesn't address the leaks he's done against Russia, doesn't address anything about Assange being very much not on any amicable relationship towards Putin and so on. It's like he doesn't actually what he's talking about and is still fuming that he never released info on Trump.
I mean, he wants that last bit to say he's Pro-Trump and therefore he is pro-Putin. But the thing g he just keeps skipping over with that weird analysis is that he wants us to forget that Hillary LITERALLY WANTED TO DRONE STRIKE ASSANGE WHILE HE WAS STUCK IN THE EMBASSY WHICH WAS IN THE UK AND WAS ACROSS THE STREET TO A MALL. To act like every politicin in america hated him is something when it's pretty obvious why they hate him, revealed their crimes. Even the pedophile accusation is just bullshit, those charges were dropped as mistaken identity were established by they just wanted to pursue the extradition cause they were mad.
I really don't get the hatred for Assange... I guess hating right wingers broke his brain cause now he's doing unironic "If right wingers are for it, must be bad" cause that's the entire point of that segment.
