now you know what your parents and grandparents mean when they say "they don't make songs like we use to".... no digital aids... no lip sync.... this was live TV.... just simply, raw talent... peace
That is so very true I was born in 10/26/1969 this is when people that was singing they were the true voice that was a much better time not like the ones that are singing now you don’t know if it’s their voice or not
They were NOT siblings. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield got the name Righteous Brothers from Black Marines that came to watch them. They shouted out "That's Righteous Brothers!". And the rest is history.
@@cynergy4 I'm sorry but I never heard that they were lip syncing in that performance and I saw that performance when it happened and I also remember when it was played on the radio and no one and I repeat no one knew who they were.
These guys were singing in their own separate groups before they met in the early 60s. Bobby Hatfield - the shorter bloke with the blonde hair - was in a group called the Paramours, and when one of the other members of the group left, Bobby teamed up with Bill Medley, the taller guy with the deep voice. According to Medley, the duo changed their name to the Righteous Brothers because African American marines would call them that due to their soulful music. The term Blue Eyed Soul originated with these guys.
I don't think either one has a "better" voice than the other. One is a baritone and the other is a tenor so they are different and they complement each other so well. Whether you prefer one over the other is just a personal preference, although I personally think it is really cool to hear a baritone as a lead singer. Back then you had great baritones like Elvis, Bill Medley, Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, etc. whereas today the majority of male lead singers are tenors who all try to sing higher than the next guy - or rely on auto-tune to make them sound higher.
According to Bill Medley, they then adopted the name "The Righteous Brothers" because black Marines from the El Toro Marine base started calling them "righteous brothers" after a show there.
You do know that the video you're viewing is well behind audio we're hearing. One of the reasons so many of yesterday's groups had such a great harmonic blend is because from the groups beginnings they were performers. Today's singers have it backwards. They make a recording then they go out in front of the public. Most of yesterday's performers spent many years honing both their harmonies and their performing skills, usually before audiences that varied between a handful of people to larger audiences, before they ever record anything.
The Righteous Brothers were originally an American musical duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. They began performing together in 1962 in the Los Angeles area as part of a five-member group called the Paramours . In 1964 music producer Phil Spector came across the Righteous Brothers when they performed in a show at the Cow Palace in Daly City, CA. where one of Spector's acts, The Ronettes, was also appearing. The rest is history.
okay so I'm sure you're going to hear about this more than one time... but the snapping of the fingers, good reaction. But please my friend resist the snapping of the fingers! ✌❤T.NoBoDY
Righteous, was a term used in the mid 60s, in the same way "cool" is still used today. These guys are not Blood related, only professionally. Bill Medley is the taller guy with the deep voice. Bobby Hatfield, is the Blonde guy with the super High octave voice of an Angle. These guys were "Blue Eyed Soul" personified.
Performers in the 50's and 60's spent hundreds of night performing in little clubs learning how to sing or play live. Eventually, they may get a recording contract. These days is exactly backward. Record a song; then learn how to play it live.
They are not siblings. They are just real soul singers who dont need auto tune. Black brothers in the navy I believe heard them sing and said.... you brothers are righteous. Popular saying in the 60's so they changed their name to the righteous brothers
I am always amused at how many reactors try snapping their fingers to this song, but it is just not a finger snapping song. No, they were not siblings. They were both with different groups, but they met and formed a duo. It is just that their voices blend perfectly. The low voice is Bill Medly and the tenor is Bobby Hatfield.
They are not siblings. The tenor is Bobby Hatfield & the baritone is Bill Medley. Both of them had great ranges & were talented singers with soul or feelings.
Listen to the follow-up (back then there was ALWAYS a follow-up) - You're My Soul and Inspiration, Every bit as good, but didn't rise to the same level. Terrific lyric in the 2nd verse: "I never had much goin', but at least I had you. How can you walk out knowin' I ain't got nothin' left if you do..."
What made this sound so good was this producer Phil specter who wrote and put these people together and created what was used here and on many of their songs was “the wall of sound”. It gave them stacked.voices in the background. And here you see it partially live with the those male and female singers behind them. You don’t hear words from them but a lot of high pitched oohs and ahhs. But even tho they weren’t brothers they had by this time been 5ptogether a long time and were the ultimate professionals. They had a long career. I love rock n 4oll heaven.
@@SweetThing Tha hell you talking about. Top Gun has one of the greatest movie endings of all time with the help of this song. God, people just gotta complain about every little thing.
You have discovered a true GEM from the 60s: The Righteous Brothers. EPIC in every way. This duo will enrich your heart and soul your whole life. May I also suggest reaction to a Motown 1969 recording by Diana Ross and the Supremes, "Someday We'll Be Together." Take care. Stay healthy.
The more I see these videos the more I'm surprised that the youth of today has never seen Top Gun, which I saw in theaters when I was 9. Fuck I'm getting old.
Have you tried any 60's girl groups yet? You will love The Shangri-Las, You Can Never Go Home Anymore and Walking In The Sand or Mary Wells, Beat You To The Punch..i am very curious what your reaction would be..Thanks🙏💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
They were only playing black venues at first and the Folks came up to them afterwards and said... ' You Boys are ~Righteous~ and thats were it came from.
You will never, ever hear better harmonies than those from siblings BUT, they were not related. Just great partnering. Another great sound is Country’s Little Big Town - you would dig the vibe of Girl Crush.
Timeless hits should be required to be played by ALL parents... I have said this before... I am so glad that you finally find some of these songs but I also find it amazing that somebody can get to your age in life and not be exposed to some of these Masterpieces I was a teenager in the 80s, a classic rock guy and still enjoyed these and knew these existed for a long time. Again great you have found so many of these, but wow so sorry you have not already had these to impact your younger soul...
Yo scribe what up.... I'm like you and they were we before my time but you said something about them being siblings which I don't know the answer to either. But I don't see that helps her has anything to do with the harmony because their natural voices are completely different. Do you feel what I'm saying here people. Tell tyrion have voices that were anywhere near the same. The voices do compliment each other in a big way
This song holds the title as the most requested song of the 20th century. I think with all these RUclipsrs reacting to it in recent years that it may also earn the title for this century as well. It continues to live on, with a renewed breath through the younger generations that are discovering all this great music from the past. This song has been featured in TV shows & movies (a famous scene with this song in Top Gun with Tom Cruise). I think whoever told you that they were siblings is misinformed, although a quick Google search would enlighten them to the truth. Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield were not related at all. Righteous Brothers was their "stage name" so to speak. Although they mostly performed as a duo, each will sing a solo, depending on the song. It is said they both wanted to do Unchained Melody so they flipped a coin to see who would sing/record it. :-)

They were NOT siblings. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield got the name Righteous Brothers from Black Marines that came to watch them. They shouted out "That's Righteous Brothers!". And the rest is history.
This is true Blue Eyed Soul, absolutely beautiful.
God given voice. This sung live. They had no auto tune

The first time I heard this I thought the Bass singer was so much better than the Tenor. Then I heard Unchained melody.
Nah Soul and Inspiration is my favorite especially because of the bass voice, lol

@Don Monfort And Otis Redding!
Bobbie has wonderful range. Both are equally good.
Despite hearing unchained melody first i still like Bills better
Timeless song - from the 60's to today, music has gone from "baby, I'll get down on my knees for you", to "B*tch, get down on your knees for me"
According to Bill Medley, they then adopted the name "The Righteous Brothers" because black Marines from the El Toro Marine base started calling them "righteous brothers" after a show there.
Wow cool info, I didn't know it was at El Toro
My uncle told me the same story. 👍
@Baxter James my uncle was a marine about the same time 🤔
Beautiful song. They made some others as well. Bill Medley is still around. I think we forget how nice the music was too in addition to the singing.
My dad seen them live he said the boys didn't even need music
Hands-down the most honest and best reaction videos I’ve seen🤩 thank you for fun!

The band Warrent did that in the 80s. The producer brought in another guitarist to play the solos in the studio.

Can't hear this song without thinking of "Maverick" aka Tom Cruise in the movie Top Gun.
