😀 A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.
So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.
Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.
We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
Hi guys, I do not know if you can still do this or if you are already out there or maybe even back from your "outback" trip. Here is a piece of advice. Buy a spray bottle and a few jugs of ammonia at Walmart (cheap stuff). Spray it around your rig several times per day (at least 3 times, definitely before going to bed). Bears absolutely hate the smell and won't go near it. You can dilute the ammonia with water 50/50 or spray it straight up (which is hard on the greenerie). I go boondocking in bear country all the time and this stuff works! What a wonderful adventure you guys are on 🥰. Have a wonderful and safe trip!!
Hey Martina - thanks that is a great tip
Kind of surprised you didn't spend a little time in Vancouver. It's an incredible and gorgeous city. You were in the Okanagan Valley when you saw the vineyard. It's a well known area for winemakers. From what I've seen from other vanlifers, all Walmarts throughout North America will allow you to stay overnight in their parking lots.
Thanks for the tips! Yep we are going back to BC / Vancouver area as my aunt lives there and we are going to be filming ... super excited for family time !!
delighted to see that you switched from taking the Coquihalla route and came up the Sea To Sky and Duffey Lake Road instead - always lovely to see our beautiful province through others' eyes! wish I'd known ... you could've stopped in for tea in Whistler! safe travels onward!
Totally agree…so much better👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thanks and yes we prefer the quieter roads - we'll be sure to find some as we head up to the arctic - thanks for coming with us x
Definitely a rough time for Chris and long driving days, but I'm blown away by The Horizon all the way down to your feet. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
Your vlog is a therapeutic in this chaotic world.
🙏🙏 Hope all is well with you both. Enjoyed another awesome "Tread the Globe" video. You have such excitement about your adventures and so thrilled you are sharing them. Feel like we learn something new every time we watch. Thank you soooo much.❤️👌🌿⚘️🌿
Poor Chris - you’ve done really well to keep carrying on. Thank you so much for bringing us on your epic journey. The world is truly beautiful. Stunning scenery. And, if anyone wants to know how truly amazing Marianne is as a driver please watch the Georgia videos - always with a smile Marianne keeps Trudy going even when there actually isn’t a road!!!
Awwh Thanks Pelin .. that is very kind of you 🌺
Fabulous folks, Chris we hope you are feeling better so you can really enjoy this next leg of your epic journey. 💜
What a treat to wake up on a Sunday morning in Alberta, Canada having coffee on the deck overlooking the lake, watching your latest episode!
Sorry for your troubling start. I could see fatigue in both of your eyes. I hope you’re better now and keeping a reasonable pace. Beautiful scenery. See you next time.💗
Thanks Kathi - the driving distances are no joke but we are all good and looking forward to sharing it all with you xx
omgosh I just relieved a trip I took a few years ago, while hitch hiking all over BC. Beautiful. I could literally smell the fresh mountain air. I'm sorry you had to do this leg of the trip while feeling poorly, but I know you are well now because I watched the next video before this one ,☺. Keep on keeping on .
Stunning scenery..Ty for sharing . Chris, hope you feel better soon 🙏🙏🙏 Marianne..you are my hero 🤗🤗🤗 please be careful out there..you guys are absolutely awesome 🤩
Hope Chris is feeling better. BTW, when we hunt in bear country the spray is just human seasoning. Stay vigilant in the woods.
It is amazing how beautiful our world is. I hope you guys discovered the single lane dirt roads that randomly appear along the highway. Never tried one that didn’t end in some type of a fantastic spot. Usually not far. I’m sure locals use them for hunting and fishing.
Hey Michael - lots of adventures coming up so stay tuned
The scenery looks stunning. Hope you weren't feeling unwell for long Chris:)
Hopefully enough time has passed since Chris' tummy issue that it's okay to laugh when he said y'all were "pooped".
Mutlu ve uzun bir hayat sizinle olsun, GÜZEL İNSANLAR
Feel better Chris. Lucky you have such an amazing driver as MA, looks like a beautiful but exhausting drive. Cute family at the end, meeting them seems to have made you both very happy 😊
Great video as always, some fantastic scenery along the way. Hope you are feeling much better now, Chris.
Get an app that shows the location of Crown land. There are countless places to park up on Crown land and there’s a lot of Crown land.
Great tip - thanks we'll look into that
Pedialyte is the best water if you have diarrhea. Any pharmacy sells it and Immodium tablets also excellent for diarrhea. Rest a lot and make early evenings. What an adventure you guys have!! I don’t know if I could do this in my life, maybe a couple months on the road would be enough…I admire all the driving and the courage to go to the unknown situations.
Thanks for the tips!
Second both of these things. You'll never have a bad time after a night out at a music festival ever again. This is my go to, and I don't suffer nearly as much in the port-o-johns.
In 2014 we spent 4 weeks in Alaska, what an incredible state, just stunning.
Denali was awesome, we saw so much wildlife, loved the expansive wilderness. Enjoy!
Thanks for the video. Welcome to Canada.
Your making me want to do the Alaska drive with all the beautiful scenery ❤️❤️❤️
Guys you are our heroes ! Cz we cannot ever do what you are doing !!
I knew it was a long way to the Arctic Circle . . . but the same distance across the US to head north?? I had no idea. Kudos to you for having an ambitious plan and sticking to it. Amazing stuff, great videos and content. Thank you so much for taking us along for the ride! Safe travels.
Thanks Theresa - it was a decision that took us some time and plans change all the time - but we have been super busy and can't wait to share it all here !! Kind regards Marianne xx
There are rest stops all over the place and you can stop at them Overnight but they're usually only for 7. hours.
In awe of the views, God's creation do not seize to amaze me nor disappoint! Please get well. Praying for healing for you. May his graces be with you as you travel further north. Excited to see it! Cheers!
My niece lives in Alaska. Just turn your head spray and don't breathe in. She has only seen 3 in over a year. Respect their space and shout to the top of your lungs.
Safe and happy travels.
Great show
Aww bet it was amazing to see Aunt Julia - hope she’s on top form
You are an intrepid driver Marianne - so strong and determined- good for you 💛👌🏻
Loved the scenery
Chris- you did so well to carry on even though I could see you were struggling- you looked so pale
Nice to see the Argentinian family
Take care
Sending hugs 🤗
Angela 🐝🌈 xx
Hey Angela - thanks for coming with us - it was lovely to catch up with Aunt Julia and we'll be heading back to spend more time on the island soon :)
I'm surprised you went through Pemberton, that "highway" was all gravel when I was a kid. We always went through hope.
How exciting. We just bought an unconverted older window van in good condition though high miles. Was inexpensive. Will use it like a "Steel tent". Do most everything outside. We are experienced at camping and have had several types of RV's. Just the simple one for us for now. I look forward to seeing your adventures on the way to the Arctic Circle and return. Hope all goes fine.
Sounds wonderful - Thank you
Hope Chris is feeling better! 🤍🤍🤍
Awesome! I hope Chris feels better
Can’t wait for more guys, love it
Thanks Hayley
Hope you're better soon. I was surprised how rare the traffic was until you started to hit the towns. A few years ago we drove from Victoria to Whistler then onto Jasper your camera shots of the road and views brought back fond memories.
Thanks Les and pleased we took you down memory lane
Oh, I have to go back, so beautiful there. Now that I have a home on wheels I can. Don't like the mosquitoes but I'll just slather on the repellent. Sorry you weren't feeling so well Chris, it happens though, eh? I have had a long struggle with this covid virus, still a little short of breath and still having faigue, cant' wait till I'm 100% again. This has hung on for 3 1/2 wks.....long enough! How wonderful to meet up with a Trudy cousin in the Walmart, I just love that you met up with fellow travelers to Alaska. Hope all is well, take care you two.
Hey Adele - yes you should road trip up here - the mosquito's are really bad but the repellent works well, Hope you are on the mend and back to full health soon xxx
Beautiful nature, beautiful scenery, enjoy your trip. Very nice.
Hope you are feeling better Chris take it easy x
We love you dear friends 🥰❤️
Sending healing vibes hope you feel better soon
WhoooHooo! On your way to Alaska finally. I grew up there. Another fun animal to watch for are sea otters. Often times you can see a mama with her pups on her tummy. She will dive down to get a clam and a rock and you can see her teaching the pups how to smash open the clams with the rock to enjoy the meat. Also watch up high in the trees for huge nests of our beautiful Bald Eagle. Enjoy!
Can't wait! thanks for the tips
Get well soon Chris
Ferries have come a long way. They are like cruise ships now 🙂
I love those views, but the drop offs 😯
Woww western Canada is spectacular. I am blown away by the scenery .Keep up the good work guys !
Vancouver Island and British Columbia is the gateway to paradise! Your video brings me back many memories, a few years ago I did the Gold Rush Trail in the BC! Thank you and good luck for your adventures! ... PS: Marianne screams louder than the north wind! 😁
Glad you enjoyed it! 😀👍
Give your van a good looking over, the farther north you go the roads will be gravel with steep grades. A friend of Mom's from her church went with family in a diesel duelie pickup (double rear tires), all wheel drive with jake brakes pulling a 5th wheel trailer. They said the smartest thing they did was putting the jake brakes on the truck for stability. I believe they went as far north as Dawson in the Yukon territory. On a remote stretch of gravel road/highway they had to change a tire, and yes they encountered grizzly bears on several occasions! So sorry you've been ill Chris, so stay well & stay safe. It takes real grit and determination to stay on the road when you are sick, thanks for sharing your video!
thanks Deb - yes we are aware that the gravel roads to the arctic circle are no joke !!!
G'day from Down Under in Australia. Love your channel. Hope you're feeling better mate 👍
Thanks - yes all good here - and so pleased you are enjoying our travels
Your Alaska journey started wonderfully, it was very enjoyable, it was very beautiful among the mountains, we continue to follow you from Istanbul, have a nice trip
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the view from the loo lol ..save travels xx
LOL - it has been fun seeing all the changing views as we travel 🌺
You absolutely I don't know how long you've got to be in Alaska and I know you're headed up to the Arctic but if you go South and go to Glen Ellen then you can take the highway to Valdez and if you think the views you've had right now are incredible you go right across the Chucache mountains thru a pass. Epically gorgeous, waterfalls everywhere. Enjoy
Thanks for the tips
there are quite often bears within a couple of hundred yards of that Walmart, as soon as you get out of that parking lot you can run into them
Loved this episode, hope you feel better soon Chris.
scenery is amazing, great vid im'e getting that holiday thing again
Fabulous Guys👌. The Scenery is Stunning. I Hope you have recovered now Chris.💜☘. Stay Well & Happy travels.
Thank you Levina - Chris is feeling so much better and also helping me answer comments as we have got soooo behind !! Love M xx
@@TREADtheglobe Really Happy to hear you are feeling Better. As we say here in Ireland 'Take it Handy'. XXXX☘
Howya from Ireland 🇮🇪, you guys are a great couple
Would love to see you when you come back to the Island in July
Hey Angela - we'll arrange a meet up so keep an eye on posts
Great scenery! :-)
I may have “found” you and fed my love of Turkey when you were stuck there and I was stuck here, but I have to admit to a little thrill seeing Canadian Tire behind you! You’ll have to come back and to the centre and east of Canada another time. Love following your journey. 🇨🇦
I loved seeing you guys in Duncan. I live in Cobble Hill. I've been following you guys since Turkey. If you need a place to park or recommendations of things to do in the Cowichan Valley of Vancouver Island, let me know. I'd love to support your journey.
Thanks Bradley very kind of you - keep in touch we'll be arranging a meet up on the island
I think it is marvellous that you are going to Alaska, I discovered some Alaskan vanlifers who shipped their van to Europe and having done Europe are in Britain touring about.
what a wonderful journey !!
Do you have the link to that other couples RUclips channel? I can’t see it anywhere. Loving the road trip north…the scenery is stunning. Definitely on my bucket list.
Whoops forgot to add - I have added it now here's the link ruclips.net/user/CreciendoenelCamino
Amazing , splendid and spectacular
Chris thankyou for sharing this vid especially when your not feeling well. Hope your better soon.Wow what wonderful scenery. POT HOLES!! At present Australian roads are full of them, should carry spare.
You guys make me want that life....tread on
Hope that Chris is feeling better. They say that laughter is good medicine, so here’s a couple of gags which arise from your video. You passed a town called 70 Miles, but did you know that The Proclaimers came from a town called 500 Miles? And, did you know that they moved to a town called 500 More? 😆
😂😆👍
Amazing content ,thank you .
Glad you think so! thanks for watching x
Magnificent nature ❤
Since Marianne is an animal magnet I’m sure you’ll see some bears. Let’s hope they are the friendly ones, ha.
So Beautiful there
I emigrated to Canada, Duncan in 1971!! Believe me we had no Walmart.
ha ha the good old days Now you have all the big stores
Oh, a road trip with a rumbly bum is no fun! And 300+ miles of mountain driving is a looong day! 😱 Hope the Rocky Road 😉 helped ease the rocky roads. ❤️❤️😎👍xx
You are right dear friend ... it is not fun !!
The “mini glaciers” as you call them is were avalanches occur on a yearly basis. Trees don’t grow there.
Fab video guys I’d like to have seen auntie during your visit to her drink plenty water Chris and Marianne I’m amazed with the amount of miles you drive thank you both guys
Hey Margaret - we will be heading to the island to see her again after Alaska so we'll get her on camera
ha ha, I was and still would be the same with wildlife! Southern BC was disappointing, saw our first black bear in Hazelton, then lots more up to Steward. First Grizzly in Haider, Alaska, first moose in Denali Park!!! Moose were very elusive for us
wonderful...will save some drop bears for you both in OZ. 🙃
Hey John - what's a drop bear ??
So sad to see where you went in Yosemete is raging fire and so many homes lost.
In terms of wildlife, Vancouver Island has one of the highest densities of black bears in the world, the highest density of cougars and a whole subspecies of wolf. I'm not sure where you were exactly when you hit the gravel, north of Pemberton there were always some stretches of road that were gravel or in need of repair. They are sections that run through reserves. Although part of the highway, they are still on reserve land and most reserves will only let road crews work through them if there are a certain ratio of native crew. It can mean that sections don't get done on the same schedule if the road crews don't meet the numbers.
The Sea to Sky was mu daily commute for aa number of years - back when it was the old road, referred to in the media as "the highway of death" but its a beautiful drive. - Definitely beats the A3 from Guildford to Godalming, which was my commute many years ago.
That's cool yall meet another van life lol
I have no idea what size tires you have on the van. If it were a non standard size I would definitely take along another spare before yo hit the arctic. Tires are the item most likely to fail. It should take you about a week to reach the Arctic Circle depending on how often you stop so you should be able to out run cold weather. Parts of Texas last week reached 45-46C.
Hi Peter - we do carry a spare with us - we have heard that we may need it on some of the dirt roads in Alaska
Hearts from Türkiye.. ❤️❤️❤️🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
Selam from TURKEY 😀👍👏🙏🌹🇹🇷🇬🇷🇬🇧❤️
I see you skipped Vancouver. Went straight from Horshoe bay up north on sea to sky thru Whistler and Pemberton then crossed over to highway 97 which takes you to Prince George, TC1 and evantually to hway 37 to Alaska. MaryAnne your aunt will bee upset with you. LoL. Unless you guys want to drop by on the way back. Enjoy the scenery. It's amazing up there. Cheers!
Great memories of our trip on our motorcycle back in2017 from Vancouver to Toronto. Was the Cougar warning sign still in the garage window? Second piece of road we have both been on, your first Bulgarian to Turkey border crossing was the one we also took on our motorcycle on our way to Istanbul. WE loved our time in Canada, safe trip
Glad you are enjoying our adventures - dont recall seeing a Cougar warning sign
The views are spectacular but I wouldn’t want to be there in the winter time…
Hello Ambassadors
Wow! What a scenery that is. Alaska is really wild and beautiful.
I cannot wait to see more of Alaskan videos. You guys are doing great work.
I do not think there is anyone who can be nominated as " THE FIRST WOMAN WHO DROVE THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE WORLD" other than Marianne. Here is something you guys need to look into.
Chris brother, I hope all is OK. ONLY TOAST AND COFFEE are not good enough, brother!
Take care of yourselves!
Love from Ft. Pierce, FL.💕💕🌹🇹🇷🇹🇷🦖👍
Hey Nick - hope you are good - we're excited to share Alaska and the Arctic with you - thanks for coming along
Just sending our love you guys. Thank you for letting us to visit you from you tube window💕💕🇹🇷
This video was in Canada, not Alaska
I love this journey, I lived in California for three years and have driven coast to coast in the US plus Mexico to Port Angeles, so I have been to 36/37 states. Last year we went to Vancouver Island and Vancouver and three years ago we flew to Anchorage and drove up through Denali so I'm hoping you will be doing something similar when you get there?
Sounds like you had a great trip we have lots of adventures coming up
Love you guys. Im convinced not to do that drive from my house in Baja San Felipe. At 62 I think I am done at 47 states camped. I cant do the altitudes. Visit anytime
Hey guys !! I am SO LOVING this part of the journey. I must try and find your email - if you haven’t gotten through Palmer Alaska yet, you’re welcome to hook up to power etc at our cabins there (and have a shower etc ) Sadly I don’t get back there for two weeks so may not get to meet you (maybe on the way back?) - my hubby works up on the slope (near Prudhoe) -so we are loving seeing the gorgeous drive !! - grab some mosquito repellent (you’ll thank me later lol)
Ah thanks for the kind offer Kay - we are armed with repellent LOL
eline emeğine sağlık bu güzel vlog için kolay gelsin hayırlı işler 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Beautiful journey, I’m sure you’re long recovered Chris, but not nice to cope with on a long journey, hope Marianne didn’t catch it!
Thanks - yes we are all good x
I love ❤️ the trust on Marianne to drive !
Some man don’t trust women to drive 🙄
She obviously loves driving and she is careful also…
Hey Sandra - Chris here - we dont have specific jobs if either of us want to do something or are good at it then we do it - Funny she does the driving and I do the cooking - LOL
Now you're "loaded for bear" as we say!
r u gonna try to catch up with chrome valdez while in Canada ???
Hey Mark - would love to if we have the opportunity been watching his channel - hopefully our paths cross
Nice video, but we missed your aunt.
We're heading back to the island after Alaska so will get here on camera then :)
Hornet spray shoots far from a can and would deter an animal...or person for that matter...and probably cheaper & should be available many places
❤❤🧿🇹🇷
Can You Please elaborate on how much per month you allot to fuel, and how much per month you use. average driving time and mileage.
More info on this would be super helpful right now.
thanks for commenting. - we'll look into if we can add this to videos
@@TREADtheglobe I'm hoping to drive my 15 passenger van from Illinois to Arizona once she is finished, so this will help me budget how much gas I might need. I know it depends on gas mileage comparisons and you have a much newer van, but it will help with a general guess. I'm guessing other people might find it interesting to compare as well simply based on the part of the world you're in. You both rock!
Chris, you need to be checked for omicron covid. watery runny nose and major fatigue.
Thanks - we have tests in the van and he is negative 👍
