Just landed a hen and a buck this morning up here in Oregon. Already have 7 logged on my harvest card this year. Only took me about literally 60+ trips to the same river. Steelhead fishing definitely proves that every detail and every bit of effort matters. The biggest thing I have noticed with a lot of people I meet on the river is that they call it quits or they just don't have their rig dialed in to the very details that make the difference. A lot of what you say about steelhead I agree with, Adam. I love your videos and your attitude towards fishing is always great, keep it up.
@@DieHardFishing feel free to reach out if you need good spots. I fish the Clackamas River a lot and the guys I fish with pull limits out pretty regularly when the season is peaked. Hopefully we'll see an Oregon video up soon!
Some rivers are more prone to what you said than others. Example. Kalama river is a perfect example. During summer, there's always summer steelhead in the river every day during summer. Every fish must look at a thousand hooks but they only bite a certain number of them. If you are fishing it right, you can catch a steelhead easy out of that river because there's so many of them.
Awesome job. I grew up steelhead fishing on the Olympic peninsula. This passion has persisted with me my whole life. I am a proud dad of two boys and can’t wait to help them catch their first chrome, sealiced fresh from the ocean Steelhead. That fish was 48 hrs or less since entering fresh water. Only a few like that in a lifetime buddy
This is definitely the best video I've seen on your channel. I have truly enjoyed your others, but in this I like the feel and the personal perspective. Congratulations on your success! I grew up steelhead fishing in the PNW and understand the attention to detail of the presentation. Those suckas are finicky and smart. Way to go!
I truly admire this video in many ways. It is not click bait. This is the real deal. Also, your perseverance. Most people nowadays cheat or learn by copying others. This is true hunting and learning knowledge gained first hand. I too have chased salmon and steelhead. For me it was on Lake Michigan in Norther Indiana waters. The learning curve was long, but eventually I figured them out. It is amazing how hard they hit and fight, then run toward you then away. Then they pause and then from 0 to 60. I’ve often said it’s like hooking onto a lightening bolt. Great channel, substantial content, and good personality. I’d fish with you any day. Good luck out there and good fishing!
I was at the edge of my kitchen chair at 1am watching the battle in a pure RUSH! I hooked my first ever Steel on a small coast stream not far from where your at, about 30 years ago and your video brought back that memory like it was yesterday. Trust me, Now you will start driving hundreds of miles and spend several days for even just 1 dime bright beauty. "The Chrome is the Juice!!"
Grats buddy! The buildup to the catch was so well done and the fight had me so nervous for you. Was like I was right there with ya haha. Big grats to you in this one my man!!! Love the channel btw, long time lurker/subscriber here.🙂
I cannot impress upon you how special that moment was. Of course, you likely felt it yourself. Welcome to the obsession! How you caught that fish, and where you caught that fish makes it extra special! That was a significant catch kid! Great Job!!!
Nice!! Those steelhead will now haunt you for the remaining 9 months of the year. I count myself blessed when I get one wild fish a year. You can tell how fresh they are by the translucency of their fins. Those were pretty much clear...also, check them for sea lice. That'll tell you how fresh. Probably was in the ocean less than 5 days ago. Try getting one on a fly rod, then you'll really be hooked. I bought my first fly rod at 20 for the sole purpose of catching a steelhead on it. I'm 38 now. It took 2 steelhead seasons of being skunked....just learing how to use a fly rod and how to read the river, etc. Finally got one on my 3rd season.. I've chased steelhead ever since, every year.. and it never gets old. Also a bay area guy, we are lucky to have a couple urban steelhead spots left. But the trinity and Klamath are my favorite. Congratulations Adam.
Adam this video by far it’s the best video, I can see the connection that you have with the fish and nature, after you caught the fish and you made the best gesture on releasing it, I felt like I was there seeing your accomplishment and almost cried, my GF it’s a fan too, kudos to your love one on sharing your passion
From a fellow steelheader, this was relatable and my favorite video of yours so far. That was a BEAUTIFUL fish. We are so blessed any time we get to cross paths with these fish that travel thousands of miles in the ocean to come back to their home rivers. Great job at capturing the allure of the challenge, struggle, and awesome reward. More steelhead content!!!
Great film man! I just want to say that I really appreciated how you treated that wild fish. Unfortunately a lot of people don't realize how fragile these fish are, and when you're dealing with wild fish on the west coast, they are a special breed that needs protecting. No need to drag them on the bank, and kill them. These fish have consumed so much of my time and I fishing for them is so special, so stoked you got to connect with one!
I've personally caught several Steelhead and Coho in those small coastal creeks your fishing at. A couple tips for you; 1. #2 Mepps. This will catch you Steelhead and by accident Coho. It's good for about 3 cast per hole. The Steelhead will not react to it after 3 cast but even if they don't grab it, they will reveal themselves by flashing on it 2. A small Anise scented marshmallow ran up the hook just past the eye followed by 2 or 3 quality Salmon eggs on the shank of the hook with a 1/4 chunk of a mini crawler. I would fish this setup with splitshots so I can add or remove them depending on the depth or current in the hole I was fishing. No bobber, just a free flowing drift and an educated feel for the drift.
@@DieHardFishing Well, I can't really disclose alot of this info in this public forum. If I still lived in the Bay Area, I could show you holding water in alot of those creeks. Here is an interesting fact though, quite a few of those Steelhead will actually stay in the creek all year long and just turn into huge rainbow trout living under the banks and waiting until the following winter, hoping for a decent amount of rain.
@@DieHardFishing In the vid, you were fishing the estuary/lagoon area of the creek and I can tell you first hand that there are schoolie Stripers in there and this time of year, a decent Starry Flounder bite near the mouth of the creek. Edit; if you can give me an email, I can give you detailed info.
Epic stuff Adam! This is by far my favorite video you've ever made. The build up, the struggle, the disappointment all make it worth it. Speechless, this reminded me of a similar journey in catching my first halibut from shore that took me months.
Adam... Welcome to the vagary of steelhead fishing. You have a great start on a journey that will take you to some of the most beautiful places on this planet and where you can meet some truly amazing people who share in your passion and then there are those at the pinnacle of the sport who pursue this fish with fly.
You can see the excitement and joy had from the bite till u ran for the other camera. Man the tug is a drug for sure. Happy for u and thanks for taking us along. Tight lines brah!!!
Wow , you sir have just lived up to the name of your channel, because that was truly Die Hard fishing. To be a good fisherman take patient and cunning among other factors but probably no one would go to the length of effort that you have on this journey. Well done! Who would believe that small body of water could have that fish, not me but you have the proof on 🎥. Epic
That was so exciting and fun to watch. Thank you. This inspires me to get back in the river. I live in Oregon now right on the mouth of the Chetco river so much fishing opportunity here. Thank you so much.
Congrats to you! Really great specimen of a fish. I felt your excitement and enthusiasm and appreciation of making contact with that thing of beauty. I've been fortunate to have caught many steelhead but each time is still like a miracle. Now you know why steelhead are revered by so many.
Howdy Adam, Wow "The Die Hard Fisherman". The passion of the hunt . Fishing for the soft biting Steel Head. My grand father fished for em. Told me some have the touch and a lot don't. Nicely done Adam. After all your hard work and to hear your reel screaming... Yeah, job well done. Congratulations on the catch and release of a beautiful Steelhead!!!
Congrats bro! I just started a year ago and caught my first hatchery last week it tasted so good, and going on super bowl Sunday! Coming from bass fishing my whole life, steelhead is very challenging! And rewarding! Loved watching your chase for chrome 🐟🙏🎣🏆

I have fished steelhead in NY and they are a crazy fun fish to catch. Oh what a fight. They have run up and down the rivers I have fished when on line while fighting them. They have such power.
