- Roofer's News: Owner of Target Roofing in Jail for misuse of $2MM PPP loan
A federal jury convicted Casey David Crowther, 35, of Fort Myers, in a PPP loan fraud case where authorities alleged the roofing company executive bought a $700,000 boat, among other expenditures, with the ill-gotten gains.
The president of Fort Myers-based Target Roofing & Sheet Metal, Crowther was convicted of bank fraud, making a false statement to a lending institution and two counts of money laundering. Prior to that trial and March 26 conviction, Crowther plead guilty to one count of bank fraud and one count of making a false statement to a financial institution related to a mortgage fraud scheme. In that case, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s office, Crowther created false bank statements to justify a loan he had used to purchase a nearly $1.3 million waterfront house in St. James City, on Pine Island in Lee County.
In the PPP loan case, Crowther, according to evidence presented at trial, obtained a $2.1 million Paycheck Protection Program loan by falsely stating he intended to use the money to make payroll and pay for rent and utilities for Target Roofing and Sheet Metal. Yet Crowther, authorities contended at trial, “intended to use the money to enrich himself and, once the loan was obtained, quickly used the proceeds to make a series of personal purchases including a nearly $700,000 boat and a $100,000 payment to a former business partner,” according to the statement.

Don’t get too big for your britches and think that GOVERNMENT EMERGENCY MONEY is buy me a boat money. He plead guilty folks
He must be a Democrat!
@Mitch Batten buying the boat using the ppp funds is the crime I guess
@Mitch Batten the crime is a diversion of funds . In construction, all funds must be to direct costs ; labor , materials for each separate project . It would be illegal to “ front end” take funds and disperse without first paying all obligations.
Contractors know what this and will be Bankruptcy if caught in violation.
@@intoodeepstl314 your right again
If he was a Wall Street banker or politician he would be getting a hand slap.
Even actual Wall Street bankers and politicians don’t get a hand slap, actually they get a pat on the back.
Why are you defending a crook?
@@realtruth3731 they’re not defending him 🤦🏻♂️
Better look at Chicago...
There is a looooong list of politicians who've gone to jail for fucking around.
Kevin h no if he was a wallstreet business he would be getting more grants free money from our corrupt gov
I am willing to wager that a lot of companies have done this.
They may have used a portion of it for their employees, but there is certainly widespread misuse of funds.
For sure!
They had better have receipts.
That's because the goverment simply gave out the money with zero oversight that it was being used appropiately until the next government took over and started looking. These people thought they had it made but got one hell of a dose of reality when the new government started asking questions.
Possible 100 years in prison?!? Murderers get less time than that!!
Don’t mess with the govt’s money. U will get more time than anything
@@mikeholley6219 yup that’s true
Insane right...
Ridiculous how the government operates
@kim He facing jail time because he is white
100 years for a money issue?!?!? Meanwhile murderers spend 10 years in jail!?!? Make that man pay it back while running his business and put these animals , who deserve prison, back where they belong.
exactly
Exactly - Make him continue to run the company, live in a halfway house (paying rent) and get locked up from 7Pm to 7AM, with no free time.
Amen
For a LOAN. Debt is slavery. He’s going to jail for not being a good slave. This is insane. It’s a LOAN. Not a free grant. Wtf!
Murderers should get life in prison. This guy deserves about 20 years behind bars. Stealing $2MM of taxpayer money is not a victemless crime. You can't just excuse him.
100 years? Only in America does someone go to jail longer for stealing money, than for killing someone.
No kidding
That's Balance for ya!
That’s not true ..people that get mixed up in larger amounts of money do time ...it’s a risk to be rich
@@darnellsmith1056 Yes, but longer than a murderer? A murderer can be out in 20 years. I don't care how much money someone steals, no one dies as a result, it is only money not human life!!!
He is not getting 100 years. Learn how our legal system works
In 10 years He'll turn up in Florida politics. That is how they climb the ladder of success.

You are right

The owner of the company steals 2MM but the company and it's employees are still OK? 🤣🤣
He was supposed to spend the money on his workers
he spent the dough on the 3 BBB's. Boz, broads an blow....I mean I would
He going to get a 100 years in prison but the justice system can't even give a killer 100 years. The justice system is a joke .
most stupid shit
Well, he should have never done it
@@latonyafarmer4542 you know the justice system is backwards

I've noticed a lot of supposed "perps" are being prosecuted even though the problem of deceit and crime began at the Government Employee that "authorized" the cash.
Their probably all conservatives as the usurpers and criminals on the Left get a pass...example, the BLM MARXIST queen out blowing cash on multi million dollar mansions! 🤡

Facts, this guy actually handled his business as designed. Applause 👏 👏 👏 hope he get off,
This PPP Loan has been a nightmare , I’m so glad I did not apply for it. But it’s also crazy how all of these ppl were approved just like that with no verification process , most loans verify info before you re approved , so they just distributed the money and asked questions later,? Crazy.
He kept his employees going . So he owned up to his alleged charge and thats it. He owned it. irregardless.
Great now he needs to pay for his crime irregardless
LMAO.

Ad running nonstop on RUclips trying to get people to low-key commit fraud.
100 YEARS?? YET SOME KILLERS OR RAPIST OR CHILD MURDERS GET LESS THEN THAT SMH.
It’s funny that no one ever does what they have already been convicted of.
He's going down she said a whole bunch of nothing 😂😂😂
What’s not being explained is how did he “ miss use” the funds that got him into hot water?
Read above goofy it just told u.
Lawyers will lie about anything. Why was he convicted if everything was used right?
Sometimes it happens to good people sometimes, maybe he thought he was doing it right. Maybe bad advise from people. It crazy. I didn't apply for it.
If the money was used to hire more employees and to make employees paychecks, I can't see what he did wrong. But let a crooked politician do the same and they'll probably get the lifetime achievement award instead of jail time.
Good!!! Keep him in there for a few million ticks. 🤦🏽😂😂👍🏽
I can’t believe the minimum sentence is 30 years & maximum is 100.. for misuse of money. This...this is what’s wrong with America
He didn’t just misuse money. He committed multiple counts of money laundering and fraud.
Stiff penalties were there from the beginning to prevent this from happening. Guess he thought he could get away with it. I'm sure he subcontractes to mexicans to avoid workers comp. Typical christian
Let him pay the money back and give him a fine. No jail time.
White privilege
100 years in prison?...really!?
Hmmm, how did the bankers spend that 700 Billion dollar bailout back in 2008? I remember them renting out entire casinos and passing bonuses to CEO's. They partied hard on the people's money, however, not one charge filed against anyone.
So where was his management team and lawyers and accountants when this all went down. I’m pretty some other people got their share and he took the blame for it all. As well as he should.
Now, Maybe I can get get some help from SBA for my small business and Not misuse the funds!
HE WASN'T THE FIRST AND HE DEFINITELY WON'T BE THE LAST... WELCOME !!!!😂
So, are they red flagged when the money hit there bank accounts or when they spend big lumps of it?
Yes,as in both 🤣🤣
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾great scene from the lawyer, she almost sounds believable!
He deserves it. Lock em up!
the questions is for how long?
@@RoofingInsights3.0 Have him return the money with interest. 6 Months in Jail.
So many contractor's got big ppe money . They all bought property, cars and boats. They should all go to jail!!
Agree 100%
Yeah, a $700,000 boat to keep the business afloat? Oh, to keep the business afloat, not me? Make an example of him.
How many people are going to deal with a criminals company ?
Wow
And I can't even get a loan to save my company I had to wind up closing my company down
You and I know the reason 🤔
Good glad he got caught and theres many others that need to be
I may not be understanding the situation correctly, but did the guy just spend money on a boat and that's it or did he falsify payroll in order to get a larger loan? From my understanding, the 1st round PPP loans were not a "need based" loan and all you had to do was submit your payroll from 2019 to get an average 8 week rate. Provided you continued to carry a similar amount of payroll going forward then the loan is typically viewed as being used to cover payroll and is eligible for forgiveness.
Did he run the transaction as a business expense? I don't think it's a very smart move for him to buy a 700k boat, but provided he's still paying his employees with the PPP money and then taking an owners draw to buy the boat I'm not sure why it's illegal. I've kept all the PPP funds in my operating account I received and have used it for payroll and to try and grow the business.
Unless there is something in the PPP paperwork saying you cannot take an owner's draw until the loans are forgiven I believe you're going to see a lot of these types of arrests across many different industries.
According to a news story I read he created 39 fake employees, along with fake documents including Social Security cards, in an attempt to prove his company was using the funds on payroll.
I really wish the best for this man because ATLEASE he didn’t take the cowards way out and JUST CLOSE THE BUSINESS!!Yes he made a bad mistake but I highly respect him for keeping the business ah float!!
Cases like this make it hard for those who stole ppp funds to sleep at night. They may get caught and maybe not, but at least they will have to look behind their shoulder the next few years
LOL
Or they can confess...
With the feds you can't walk away and the feds are patient also. Some will think they got away with it cuz it will take the feds a minute to round them all up.
@@FaithandNovaLol yep they wait intentionally to give you the max sentence.
I know a couple biz owners that got the money but when the employees got sick they did not get paid...
I’d personally say a few months in jail is a Max sentence. People spend less than 20 years for violent crime, rape and 2nd or 3rd degree murder in many cases
Fraud get the most time
you think 2-3 months is fair to clear 2 million. Guess I see why people are doing it then.
@@Cappadonna72 if he stole yeah I’d say longer. When the government creates a problem then willingly gives you money and you used 90% of it on the things you need for your business and buy a boat. I don’t think you’re a criminal.
having to pay that money back is the true sentence!
You have to still pay the money back after you get out of prison. Your comment explains why so many ppl did it smh
100 years in prison meanwhile killers get 25
A lying company representative. Just pay attention and listen to her.
100 years is ridiculous!!! People who commit the worst crimes in the the WORLD Like murder get less!
True, our society is upside down for sure
$700K boat?
Come on now, that's greed.
Makes no sense.
Once he becomes property of the state he cannot have his name on the business so the lady in the video wasn’t accurate on that
Right
Property of the state? It's a federal crime
I couldn’t get food when I called 311 ??? For my 11 year old n myself?? Really not food stamps not even water!!
How can you trust a criminal,
Greedy
I hope he knows how to do the buss it challenge cause thats all hes going to do in jail
This story is insane why is he going to prison if he did the right thing with the PPP money
When the government gives you $2million to pay your employees, you don't go out and purchase a $700,000 boat. That's almost 50% of the loan you requested.
What the hell. He did not kill or hurt anyone. Why put him to jail for that long ? While killers get less jail time ? What's wrong with this world and the so called justice system ?
You don’t take down nino brown and keep cmb running to distribute drugs this was a comparison to new jack city
He should’ve gave that money to employees at least some of it for them and their families
They couldn’t ask them for their previous tax return
Greed ain't worth it!
This is a joke at best - this guy should just pay back money with fine- why destroy a big business employing people ?
If gets prison- how many years will the SBA employees get for giving out loans without any checking of legit businesses
Why should he be able to keep this business when he misused the money he got???
News people always say that someone may get up to, let's say in this case, 50 to 100 years in prison. Knowing good and well if he does go to prison it won't anything close to that. But the government is irresponsible for the way they handed out the money, just like they are irresponsible on evictions. Not having any idea who truly can't pay rent and those who can.
100 years? Did he kill someone? What a system we live ... in the last days thongs will be all messed up
That blond lady is full of it. If target roofing didn't commit fruad why was he arrested, indicted?
I knew it was a catch to the money. Government can't hardly give a Walfare check How are they able to give a Business. $$$ with no attachment?
The type of fraud here is tricky to prove yet prevalent. I’m sure he did use the PPP money to pay his employees but he probably took a year off work himself, did not push projects, and used money generated through normal operations to live beyond his means. No roofing company needed this money, everyone in the trades was slammed.
What the owner was thinking before he hired his employees. Now he is saying that the only thing he is worrying about people who works under him. Really. I don’t think so. Greedy owner mostly think how to make money using regular people labor to improve their life style or please their colored hair wife or mistress. This is mostly true
If he used the money for his budget why is he guilty at all and going to prison. He didn’t buy luxury cars and homes with the money he used that money for his employees for salaries
Did he default on his loan? If I get a loan, and don’t pay it back, put it on my credit, crazy ass government I tell you
👌💯🙏true patriotism
how does one misuse the $$ I do not understand? can anyone explain to me please
Use tax payer money to help taxpayers(employees) nothing else. Jail is a good place for him.
IN THE ADVERTISEMENTS FOR PPP LOANS....THEY STATED THAT THE LOANS WERE FORGIVABLE......SO WHY IS HE BEING CHARGED WITH A CRIMINAL OFFENSE...???
Theives that's your specialty been stealing for centuries nothing new. How can you steal in a time like this
Boycott the company and give him 100years
Let him go because he still broke bread with the people.. he has a heart
ridiculous
Poor guy, gov will make example of him to scare everyone else!
If you kill someone you can get out of jail in less time than that?🤔
Your absolutely speaking #facts!!! 💯
If he was so worried about his employees why did he buy at 700,000 boat with the PPE money?
so he could reward his employees & have fun
If he cares about employees he wouldnt have stole the 2 million and used it to pay them with it... not really a big company guy like he makes himself seem
Nun wrong with taking a lil off the top just be smart how you move it
If that's what he did with the money why is he going to prison ???

He stole that money! His employees never saw a penny of that money. If he did everything right then why is he face 50 years to life?
They should make an example out of him and the others as well!
They are already making example out of him
Probably literally given the company by his father and just gives it the f*** away
Oh the greed!
Are they still in good hands?
How did he get caught? Irs audit?
When government gives you $2,000,000 for something they will check how you spent it. They have access to your account and you have to provide reports what you used funds for

So sad for the customers though. Attorney trying to sell his case to the news and the public its sad too.
so I’m confused what did he do wrong she said he received 2 million and spent 3.5 million on employees is that not the whole point of the loan?
Yeah right "" and good hands of a criminal.
This is crazy up to 100 years in prison, I don’t get it on the ppp contract it states that if you misuse the funds you have to pay it back so why don’t they just make him pay it back 🤷🏻♂️
Because he committed a bunch of other federal crimes in the process.
people need to riot about bullshit like this how someone that is doing the right thing going jail and there is killers doing 10 years.

Dummy, that's what he gets for being over 25 on TikTok
If he has 200 employees how did he get guilty
Guilty and he gets to leave the courthouse? Isn't he a flight risk?
If he did nothing wrong what is he guilty of ?
Up to 100years? The government ain’t playing (that man would learn his lesson after 3-5 years in prison
