- We show you where to go to find the elusive Ellensburg Blue Agate gemstones, once used in Tiffany’s jewelry. It’s not obvious where to park, what gate to open, getting access over the hill, crossing a creek and jumping a fence onto PUBLIC land. We’ll also show you other rocks you can also find there and then cut and polish all of them so you can see how amazing they truly are!

Ty for being so gracious as to take me with on your search for the beautiful blue! Congrats on your find, and may that first one be the first of many more to come 🙏. I’m just learning how to detect out in the field, & kind peeps like yourselves are very much appreciated since I cannot get out just yet. Maybe I’ll find a lovely red jasper (?) like this one you polished, as our area has lots in many places…it’s stunning! The blue agate would be outstanding 🎉 I think I’ve read about some near/in the Mojave. Ty for another fun video adventure! Rock on 🤘
Hi Julie,
You made us both smile with your kind words. Truth be told, you made our day and we are very happy that you enjoyed the video. It takes an incredible amount of time to edit a rockhounding video in the style that we've chosen, more than 10x the actual trip time, and the rock cutting/polishing is about an hour per stone so it's good to hear it's appreciated.
You mentioned your area, but didn't say where that is. We always like to know more about places we may queue up for a visit.

@@GreyBearOverland ty for such a heartfelt reply! I can’t imagine all the time and effort going into your channel, but it certainly is one of my favorite to see new videos from. I really enjoy the full experience of your adventures ;). I’m in the High Desert, just the south/west of the Mojave Desert area. It’s smoking hot in summer and brrr cold in the winter. Just finding out about classic places to hunt for the beautiful stones after 30+ yrs living here. Would love to buy you two a meal should you ever come out this way. Love the connection you two have
It was nice to meet you both today west of McDermitt! Hope you find what you are looking for!
Hi,
Sorry, but I can't recognize you from the tiny photo. You were in the Gladiator? If so, I must have misheard your name, too, since I thought it was Glenn.
We did find a some great agates, for sure. I was just starting to clean them today to decide what to cut first. A video will be posted when it pops to the top of the queue. McDermott was awesome. Except the big Mormon crickets. Definitely not the crickets.

Blue one is really pretty, good find.
Thanks!
Beautiful blue you got. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Tran. Glad you liked seeing it.

The music and the applause is just fine. What is wrong with people? Do it the way you want to. They can make their own the way they want it.
Hi, We appreciate your positive feedback! It makes us want to make more videos to share. Will leave out the admittedly corny laugh track, though. :) It was a one-time thing expressing our SUPER excitement.

Thank you for sharing. What’s the address to use where you parked to get to the public land area in your video?
Hi Michael,
Sorry, we don't have an address but if you search for Rock N Tomahawk, that's a pay site (farm) further up the road so you'll drive right by it on Green Canyon Road. Good luck searching!

Sadly, section 18 has been shut down forever and these videos are some of the few that depict where most people would go find their Blues. As of June 2024, there is no longer any public access to dig Ellensburg Blue Agate. Just like the Holly Blue Agate from Oregon, The value has gone up to $100 per carat minimum.
Hi Michael, Thanks for the heads up. I couldn't find the notice online. Do you have a link?

@@GreyBearOverland let me see if I can find that copy
@@GreyBearOverland if you join my page I think it was listed a few weeks back if you scroll down about a month
Where exactly is this?
Hi…I watched your video and I never heard how to get to where you hunted for blues. I live in Tonasket and would like to plan a day to go to the place you were at in your video.
Another user said the area was closed. We couldn't find that notice online. We'll be driving by there next week so will see if there is a sign. BTW, the neighbors don't like the parked cars so previously had put up a bunch of no parking signs in the one spot that one can get off the road. I don't believe they had the right to do that so maybe the new sign is theirs, too.
Hi Sara,
We still can't find any indication that the area is closed. We drove by there last weekend and there is no DNR sign indicating its status has changed. There are many no parking signs and towing company signs to intimidate visitors but that's the locals doing, not the DNR. The gate is at 47.13968, -120.61355. We used to park safely right across the street but because of the signs, we parked way down the road and it's a bit dicey hanging into the street.
If you find it too intimidating, just continue down the road, then make the next left turn, then the street bends right, then left. You'll be at the Rock n Tomahawk Ranch, which will be happy to let you walk their land for a very modest fee. 47.16045, -120.63518

@00:58 What do you say here? Sounds like some geological history. T-T You along the fence next to Rock N Tomahawk property?
HI,
See ruclips.net/video/Qf0xMtrFz4I/видео.html
Nick Zentner does lots of geology teachings. He talks about the notch in the hills as being a landmark.
We are about 1/4 to 1/2 miles away from Rock N Tomahawk. The fence runs parallel to it.

Anyone recognize the material(s) at 10:38?
The noisetrack ruined an otherwise decent video. No one comes for the music. Stop it.
Hi Ruthie,
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback for improvements.

Do you guys buy rocks and minerals? I have a lot to get rid of. Some is cut some is faceted gemstones and a lot is rough natural gem material. In Tacoma, WA. Have all sorts. Mineral specimens as well. Some pretty good sized raw 'museum pieces'. Have large garnets, and small garnets in the raw from N. Carolina that are amazing, one looks like a piece of gingerbread and is over 2,000. Have raw red and blue corundum, one of the ruby stones is unlike the rest and appears to be encased in feldspar. Needs to be looked at by the GIA. Have some Colorado Blue Topaz raw stones each over 17 carats and good for a nice 5ct stone each if cut. I like the smaller stuff. I think I have a couple pieces of polished Ellensburg blue that are not huge but look really cool with black inclusions. Just downsizing much paid, a bit of money for it all some time back, actually paid a lot over the years for my rocks and gems. I have some quality pieces and know some collector out there would love to get ahold of some of my stuff...
Why do yall put music over talking? Especially when the mic is so bad! I can’t hear a damn thing im out!
Must be in Idaho...
Sorry but the fake applause & clapping 👏 is a bit tacky.
Hi,
Thanks for the respectful way you've phrased this criticism. I probably would have said something like, "OMG, WTF dork!" The obviously fake applause is SO tacky, we agree.
There are about a dozen reasons it's there and I contemplating doing a whole video on it. The short answer is that this trip wasn't even going to be a video. We were expecting to get skunked again and were testing a brand new microphone and didn't even take a camera. It was all shot on our phones since it was just an audio test under real world conditions of expecting a lot of wind. Well, as good luck would have it, this is when we scored, and as bad luck would have it, the mic was awful.
I put 6 calendar weeks into this "simple" video (about 80 editing hours) mostly dealing with the poorly captured audio and video. People (I think this includes you) had asked for longer shots of the rocks. This meant more time cutting and polishing, shooting them highly magnified, seeing poor results, re-polishing and re-shooting. We make no money from this and it went from just-for-fun to real work long before this point. The laugh/clapping track was me joking around (having fun) about then and I decided to leave it in as "something different" than yet another time of me saying "wow", "amazing" or such.
BTW, Ellensburg is in central Washington. If you know where in Idaho we can get blue agate we'd love to know since we'll be traveling your way soon.
Thanks for putting up with the tackiness and watching the whole video. We likely won't do this approach again unless there is an outcry of support for it. ;) LOL
