Leather Crafting Tutorial - Viking Belt

  • This is a pattern of the 'Megingiard', the legendary belt of Thor that gave him twice the strength. It is designed to be very wide and be a big piece of armor. The build is straight forward and you will have measure the length for yourself, but it is always easier to cut somehting away then adding somthing.
    Difficulty: medium Tools needed: basic
    Recommended materials
    - 3,5 mm (9 oz) veg. tanned leather
    - 14 m leather straps about 5 mm (1/5 inch) wide
    - 2 m leather straps about 7 mm (1/4 inch) wide and thick
    - 4 buckles 2,5 cm (1 inch) wide
    - 3 O-Rings about 4 cm (1,6 inch) width
    Tools: edge trimmer, cutting knife, burnisher, hole punch, leather carving tools, clamps, sewing material, diamond shaped chisel, strap cutter, wing divider, glue, rivets, groove cutter

      Thank you :) Well would be difficult to show, a lot just goes on in my head, the rest is googling stuff and pushing lines around on the computer, readjusting things atleast twice over several weeks :D

    Wich kind of resist do you use, en wich antique gel?

      Here I used Tandy's Eco Flow resist and antique, if my project base colour is already darker, I use fiebings antique gel, there I do use a resist only after the antique to secure it but not before the antique

      @@NilsBeardfoot thank you for the response. I use eco flo antique walnut, and it makes the "non-coloured" parts a bit red (hence the walnut). I can't find a antique gel that's transparent like yours

      @@ezekielbarentszn4971 Mine is dark brown so definitely not transparent. I think I know what's your problem, the resist is not sealing the leather up enough, that's why I always do 2 coats there and make a little test area to see if it comes out like I wanted it. Be sure to let the resist dry before you add another coat and before adding the antique gel.
