    "The Anti-Farscape Character" Great take. Apart from her personality and goals being a mystery it felt like the show piled too many extra-natural quirks on her character. She can reattach limbs, walk on walls, hover in the air, radiate heat and, in PKW, throw fireballs. If the characters of Farscape were D&D characters Sikozu would be the overpowered player character piloted by the dungeon master.

    I see where you are going with this. Her reaction when the Grudecs are going to give a bad review to her employer. Having her reputation sullied is more important to her. Also when she speaks to Ayren in PKW, she let's on how she thought Scorpius was her intellectual inferior. Ah, the folly of youth. She is a "wise fool". Thanks again for another thought provoking piece.

  • @IAmMyOwnApprentice

    I do not count PKW Sikozu. Regrettable, as I have so much respect for Farscape, but I just don't.
    I don't have issue with her abilities. The floating in air is probably only when her anti-Scarran heatwave is about to go off. And the wall walk is something her species can do. No telling if her reattaching limbs is a bioloid thing or a kalish thing. I feel like we put up with more superpowers from Zhaan though.
    As a bioengineered operative, her personality makes sense. Lots of data, but not much experience. Ruthless and self-assured. Disagreeable but curious. Allies herself with the enemy's most serious enemy...
    It's when she's isolated from advancing her objective against the Scarrans that we see her nacent personality come out to explore the world and herself, like in 'A Perfect Murder', or her time on Earth. If it sounds like it would suck to be her, it's because it would.
    She always came off to me like one of those students who were driven by obsessed parents into all study and no life, until they know a lot- but not quite who they are. That's maybe why her reputation and self-image are so important to her, because she's suffered so much for whatever she is now that falling short of amazing would feel like a wasted life.

    • @FarscapeContinues
      @FarscapeContinues  2 года назад +4

      I like your description of her. So sure of herself until she got into the real "world." But there was always a biiterness inside her. I wonder if her arrogance was a cover for what was causing that bitterness. When she met up with Scorpius, that allowed her bitterness to harden and take over.

    When Crichton repeats "she's too smart" multiple times shortly after meeting Sikozu, I always kind of wondered if that was possibly Ben Browder's secret commentary on the character being overdone. They gave that character everything. She wouldn't be out of place in a superhero movie.

    • @hundetuem
      @hundetuem 9 месяцев назад

      Only that she´s not a hero.

  • @bryanreed742
    @bryanreed742 Год назад +2

    I think part of the problem is that she was introduced so late in the series. When Chiana was introduced, they took quite a while to somewhat awkwardly figure out her character and motivations, but they were able to focus a couple of solid character-development episodes on her and on cementing her relationships with the crew. Sikozu had a similarly ambiguous start, but her character never got that chance. In the last season, there was so much foreground plot and so much going on with the established characters that it seems they just couldn't spend the time on her. They tried to plant the seed of an interesting story that might have played out in the next season, but instead it just became a dangling plot point that went nowhere. I imagine if we'd had another season her character would have gotten more interesting.

    • @FarscapeContinues

      I like your thinking on that. Several characters would have received some in-depth looks if a full Season 5 had been allowed.

    • @hundetuem

      I agree mostly, only that I don´t think they meant for her to become a hero. She was never supposed to be liked. That´s what made the 4th season more interesting. Jool was annoying, which was refreshing, too. But Sikozu was really meant to be hated. Yes, she is (too) smart and pretty, but don´t forget: she´s the one who set up the crew and the Eidolons with the Scarrans. So she´s responsible for their death and Dargo´s.

      It did seem like they were just getting rid of the character. Oh you have a point with the technic-obsessed scifi-fans. I know one. Totally ruins the joy of watching for others, so I´ll never watch anything with him around. I talked to him about him not liking Crichton´s space walk in season two. I argued that at the time (early 2000) it was a common conception that a human, exposed to space, has a couple of seconds before dying (as in 2001 or Star Trek Enterprise season 4, even Stargate in season 10). He got angry and said: "Impossible, you´d be dead in the very first split second."
    Me: "Why?"
    He: "The pressure differential tears you apart immediately and your eyeballs pop."
    Me: "Couldn´t the extreme low temperature compensate for that?"
    He: "No." (He´s not a scientist)
    Me: "How do you know that? Has any human ever been exposed to open space?"
    He: "Challenger?"
    Me: "No, they dropped into the ocean and drowned, as far as I know."
    He: "It´s impossible."
    Me: "Did this happen to any human so far?"
    He: "It´s impossible."
    At that point I ended the discussion, because it had become pointless.

    I have my own short theory.
    I think the Sikozu, as a more advanced biorobot model than we see in the show, was send from a future that uses the wornholm weapon. Her goal was to stop it and stop PK forces, who are researching these weapons. Sikozu has knowledge of the past and finds (Sikozu was identified as an employer in S04E01) and saves John Crichton to get closer to Scorpius through him. I also think that Sikozu is actually shaping reality to its advantage with the advice that most seem to be wrong.

    I would hate to think that's the case. I hate the idea that the creators of Farscape would make fun of the viewers that way. :( When we first meet her she says she's on her first mission, so I agree she is literally a baby. I see Sikozu as a rebel weapon who's entire life was ruined by the gang on Moya and now she is a lost little girl whose entire reason for existing is getting further and further away, until Katratzi. In my head cannon when Sikozu gets there she is briefed by her rebel group to stick by Crichton because he's demonstrated a good knowledge of wormholes by then. Then in the LaBomba eps our Sikozu gets caught and a scarren controlled bioloid of our Sikozu bioloid continues on with the Moyans after that. Which is the only way I can make sense of the drastic shifts in demeanor she shows including becoming a spy for a race she is literally a bomb against.

    • @FarscapeContinues
      @FarscapeContinues  3 года назад +5

      I don't think the creators are making fun of Farscaoe viewers, but that they were tweaking those anti-Farscape peeps who derided the show for not being hard sci-fi.
      I like your theory about the bioloid. It would explain the weirdly disparate Sikozu of PKW. The only problem is there is no firm evidence for it as much sense as it makes. In the comics, we see a chastened and emotional Sikozu that we only saw the briefest glimpses of in the original series. Regardless, I just can't buy the idea that she would make that deal with the Scarrans. IMO, probably the biggest plot hole in the whole of Farscape.

    • @hundetuem
      @hundetuem 9 месяцев назад +1

      Interesting. I always wondered if she might have been captured at that commerce planet where they rescued Grayza. She was separated from Aeryn for a while, so she could have been exchanged by a bioloid.
      There is also a moment, later, on Moya, when John´s finds out it´s not Aeryn. The Aeryn bioloid at one point looks at Sikozu, as if looking for help. But Sikozu couldn´t blow her cover ...

      In the show, they even played a demented version of the John+Aeryn theme music when Sikozu and Scorpius are together at times, so they definitely fit the role of Bizzaro John+Aeryn well. In the comics, Scorpius gets some pretty drastic breakup revenge on her if I recall, after which they seemingly finish her storyline. They are making a new 25th anniversary comic that will have new story, so I do wonder if they'll revisit that. The original comic run ended on a fairly open ended note that left the door open for them to continue the story.

    She didn't fit in because Sikozu was never supposed to be a character on Farscape. Raelee Hill initially auditioned for the role of Naranti - the producers decided she was not right for the part, but they were so impressed with her that they created the role of Sikozu for her. So she really was just "tacked on".

    • @cylontoaster7660

      That would make sense. Another angle to look at is when Zhaan was killed off, Jool took her role on the ship as "smart person who can do medicine and some science stuff" like Zhaan did. When Jool left, Naranti took the medicine role, but she was more shaman than scientist. In a way, it almost feels like they decided to split Jool's character into two people in terms of role and what they do: Naranti in the Zhaan "healer" role and Sikozu in the arrogant but smart/science role that Jool also used to play.
