Quick note: in my mitochondrial diagram, it looks like Acetyl Co-A initiates gluconeogenesis but it doesn't. When Acetyl Co-A is present in large amounts, Pyruvate Carboxylase acts on pyruvate to generate oxaloacetate. The diagram shown is a heavily abbreviated one, and I should have put "PC" on that arrow from acetyl co-a to oxaloacetate and another from pyruvate to oxaloacetate. i'll be more clear next time. if you're a student studying, you know/learn/understand a much more in-depth version and should go off the one in the books.

@Disappointed Here's the thing, shit for brains. The perception of college students is one formed from seeing the actions of a majority of those college students. Sounds like a laxative to me
Probably miralax, but a doctor told me to do that to clean out my intestines for a scope. Drinking the whole bottle is horrible, you'll be shitting water. If you're just constipated, follow the dosage on the bottle. It works just fine.

No wonder idiots always survive
It wasn't until I started learning about mycology that it really dawned on my just how important the food safety classes and knowledge I've learned are. Worked in resteraunts alot and always took it dire-ly serious, but learning about how fast bacteria and mycelium grows in a petri dish and just how absolutely sterile you MUST be to have a clean plate and No contamination growing is INSANE. Leaving food out is absolutely no joke.
I cook my foods in a very special way to make them shelf stable, as I grew up with out refrigeration, if it contains water and low salt or sugar, it is dangerous

Yup. Took one bite of a bad steak and threw the rest away. That one bite had me fucked up for two days. I can only imagine what would have happened if I dumped some A1 on it and kept going.
I've been a chef 27 years and made sure to teach my kids everything about food safety, cross contamination, proper temps, shelf life, it's so easy to get sick or die from food poisoning.
You should do a channel about this
it's not easy at all lol
I make pasta regularly for myself, and I often don't properly put it away and let it sit there a while. Of course I let scent be the ultimate judge every time I decide to scoop some up. It's videos like this revolving around leftovers that make me more and more conscious about the potential risks.
Yeah, I've heard horror stories from friends with food poisoning. Even if you waste some money throwing out food that was accidentally left out, it's worth it. I think about what might happen after; the pain and misery, and have no problem finding something else to eat. Even if money is tight, there are always food pantries that can help with free food. There's always a way to get something to eat if needed. Also, if you get sick, you're going to waste a lot more money going to the ER or Doctor's trying to get it delt with. These are the things I remind myself of if thinking about whether to throw food away or not. Better safe than sorry.
Just think of it as you building up a strong immune system 😅

This one was really great. I actually wowed outloud. Having worked in food service and having a father who set up one of the first toxicology programs in the USA, I'm pretty hyper-aware of food safety. Those in food service (or in supermarkets) just don't get the education they need to keep customers safe.
I wowed at the stomach medicine killing him. It is the usual hangover response to hit aspirin/alkasetzer and stomach meds, and there is no warning that I know of about this potential complication.
I have a relative who's a doctor, and she's always told me that generally speaking, you don't want to take any drugs or medication unless absolutely necessary, and to be very mindful of how much you take, even with relatively benign stuff like Ibuprofen. It's just adding variables to an already incredibly complex system, and it's hard to know exactly what kind of weird niche interactions and things could go wrong.
@@itsaUSBline I totally agree. The only thing Itake now sometimes is aspirin. Usually I am not allergic to anything, so I tend not to be afraid of stuff. But everything I do is pretty innocuous.

He did the story about the mom that died from a water drinking contest trying to win a gaming system for her son. I know that story was real. It was on the news
Wouldn't surprise me if he wound up committing suicide years later.
@@pr4208 read the video description, or watch the end of the video where he tells you it is not a real case. "The story of Patient AJ is based on literature"
This is why Gordon Ramsay is serious about rotton food
F2pGuy :P “Rotton” lol.
But somehow he is tough as fck and eats everything at least a few bites...
John Shakur it’s a sacrifice he must take
That’s good of him.
So is my boss at Olive Garden
It also depends on the climate. Sometimes in winter the kitchen is just as cold as the fridge and water is freezing outside. In this case the kitchen bench is just as good as the fridge. If i want to freeze something i just put it on the backyard table lol
This is why you label your mealprep and make sure to package it appropriately and accordingly

Thank you, for this important information!
5 days is not the big deal here. Just about all food can be kept at least 7 days if stored correctly.
Its the temp at which the food was kept that got him. You got an hour or two to get the temp down to room temp, then another 2 hours to get it down below 40 degrees. Leave it uncovered on your counter for 30-40 minutes, then into the fridge uncovered 30-40 minutes, then cover. If you do this your food will last a week.
Luckily, our bodies are equipped with 3 major checks that can prevent us from ingesting food that will make us sick. Sight, smell, and taste. This should go without saying but if your food looks, smells, or tastes funny… dont eat it.

I honestly wish that some Biology lessons were taught like this. Sometimes you need to have basic textbook work, I get that, but I love these 'applied' scenarios you present - very engaging, understandable and memorable.
I only think past doctors would be able to, or people with doctorets in an interesting subject.
I agree so much
A Person I agree! And you get so much terminology in this way, too!
This is what I love about Emu's channel. The way these medical things are presented. Fascinating, captivating and to the point.
@@OnlyTheQuack That's probably true, and come to think of it a lot of the best teachers I have had are ones who moved into teaching after having already had a career in the sciences (or in subjects like English are truly passionate about the selected texts). As you say, the quality of a teacher matters a lot here, but that's true in general.
Still, I think there is a case to be made that teaching something then letting students hear about how this would work - maybe even letting them deduce things based on what they have learned previously - is a good way to involve and interest a captive audience of pupils. An important part of learning is allowing a class - all the way from nursery to uni - to become immersed in the subject as you can't really understand something that doesn't interest you.
Part of me thinks that this is unrealistic and may be too time-consuming for a course with a deadline, but if someone could implement stuff like this into the education system it could help add an extra little spark to the science curriculum.
It's a nice thought, anyway.
I’ve watched this video some years ago, I remembered the „sometimes leaves his food out overnight“ part. Well, i‘mma watching it again!

I got food poisoning from bacillus cereus (also from bad pasta) but it only made me throw up for a few days. I can't imagine how close i couldve been to death had there been that one fatal factor.
I've suffered from food poisoning before. The last time I was sick for a week. Then when I thought I was 100% well I had the symptoms all over again. That happened a couple of times.
When in doubt, throw it out.
Food poisoning is no joke.
Exactly. Most of the time we come out of it good, the body heals itself. But it is no joke still, and self medication not a good idea at all.
