Easier if you're stupid because a little bit of knowledge is dangerous. He knew just enough to make himself sick so it would have been better if he were dumber.
@@bluenami7520 Well, also if he had a bit more knowledge he would have known it would be borderline stupid to do what he did. Being smarter would've also been beneficial.
@@CMADE Yep, touche! Astronomer Geoff Marcy was talking about the potential to find intelligent life on other planets when he said "in 400 million years sharks have not gotten any smarter", illustrating the possibility that there may not be a survival benefit conferred by intelligence. Another documentary I watched claimed that sauropod brains actually got smaller over time because it was more advantageous to have long necks than large brains requiring lots of blood flow. Then there is Satoshi Kanazawa who in his book "The Intelligence Paradox: Why the Intelligent Choice Isn't Always the Smart One" describes the disadvantages of intelligence. For instance smart people do well in studies, but not so well in relationships and consequently are less likely to reproduce. He says, "Actually, less intelligent people are better at doing most things. In the ancestral environment general intelligence was helpful only for solving a handful of evolutionarily novel problems. General intelligence is very important in modern life because our environment is almost entirely evolutionarily novel. Most of the problems that we have to solve today-how to excel in school, how to find jobs, how to do virtually everything on a computer-are evolutionarily novel. So intelligent people do well in almost every sphere of modern life, except for the most important things, like how to find a mate, how to raise a child, how to make friends. Intelligence does not confer any advantage for solving all the evolutionarily familiar problems that our ancestors encountered. More intelligent people do not have any advantage in finding mates and often have disadvantages." And we have Hemingway who said "Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know." Ignorance would seem to indeed be bliss. It's an alternate perspective on things. Google "disadvantages of intelligence" for more. Life is hard... it's even harder if you're smart.
I really feel for this dude. He developed a food addiction as a child, forcefully overcame that with surgery instead of diet or mental control (not saying surgery is easy, it isn't. It's extremely invasive and extremely hard afterwards. But it does force you to eat less) and after that, developed another addiction to these gummies. Eating TUBES of denture cream for the zinc? Just wild. So sad.
I'm genuinely surprised he didn't suffer complications after the surgery - at first you can only have liquids, for example. It's very easy to seriously hurt yourself if you don't address your food addiction as well.
@@rilmar2137That’s why the weight loss surgery tends to only offer a temporary solution. I’ve met people who eventually regained weight and over half had to repeat the surgery. It is successful only if the cause of the food addiction is addressed and not just the symptoms.
That's really interesting especially since I heard of a very similar case. The case I heard of, was described on a German radio show, about mysterious medical cases. The patient also had an excessive zinc intake, and for a long time no cause for this could be found. Later it was discovered, that he was simply using way too much dental paste. If I remember correctly, he also made a full recovery.
Kitty started meowing and purrrrr, this truly happened and his owner was fed cat videos at youtube, and the kitties obviously got to much food. But because of corona the kitty litter ran out from the stores. Gently he bought kitty litter enough to last until next quarantine evaluation. 🥺
To be fair, the gummy part is good for people who may otherwise have trouble chewing the hard tablets. The candy part, however, is definitely a mistake. Edit: When I wrote this comment, I didn't realize hard tablets you swallowed whole existed; I had only ever had ones you needed to chew.
Thats dangerous, tell the doctors everything. If your afraid clear out the room to talk only to DOCTORS. They will keep thier mouths shut. Hey, mine do.
Technically he was fine. It's not like his fixation with food and supplements impeded his job or his life in general, which is needed to diagnose a mental illness. It's more like that he didn't know how complex nutrition and healthcare are. He found a "safe & easy" method and stuck to it. Sadly it's not that simple or we wouldn't need doctors and nutritionists
I had to hold my hand down, because my first impulse after hearing that was to slap him. The words he said were so incomprehensibly stupid, that the impulse occurred faster than my brain could process that I was watching a video.
Really burying the lede there. Like yeah, the gummi vitamins were probably the bulk of the problem, but then again, *he was eating tubes of denture cream.*
Not a "full recovery". Just "a recovery". It's true that some organs are forgiving but they're only forgiving until they are not. His hip will never be normal again. The neuro degenerative changes in his spine will not reverse. Had to say this just in case you or someone you know is engaging in excessive behavior or consumption of potentially harmful substances with the mindset that, "I'm healthy and young. My body can take it." That's a very dangerous mentality. Protect your health, always. Choose a healthy, balanced diet, exercise regularly, stay active and drink lots of water. Your body will thank you as you age.
@@extracelestial9527 exactly, but most people have the mentality that they are healthy until they are not, and don't play the long game. I know lots of people dead by 50. All drinkers, smokers, party drug takers. Old age creeps up fast, and so do health problems. You could live the healthiest lifestyle and still be dead by 60, seen that too. Yet know hardcore smokers who are older and still going. Its all about genetics, and how quick your genetics deteriorate at the end of the day. Telomeres ....
@@pseudocode1 I agree, genetics play an enormous role in how we age and our predisposition to illnesses however, I think it would be naive to disregard one's lifestyle. It is proven that lifestyle, (diet, fitness level, BMI, etc) plays an equally if not more import role in our health and how we age.
@@extracelestial9527 I literally said poor lifestyle choices amongst my peers lead to early death. Of course all the things you just stated help to maintain homeostasis and genetic integrity, they are important but not the silver bullet. Sometimes something as simple as eating wheat - seemingly benign - is known to and may be causing inflammation of the small intestine without even showing symptoms until its too late.. Constant inflammation and damage will eventually lead to mutations and cancer. Why speed up the process compromising the bodies systems further. The telomeres are like a fuse, once the end caps are damaged, the genetic material ie DNA frays - leading to loss of the genetic code used to repair cells. EVERYTHING comes back to the ability to repair. Once you lose that ability you have a terminal illness.
In this case, it means we do not know and Chubbyemu did not find any follow-up. The human nervous system has a greater capacity to regenerate itself than previously thought but it is still pretty limited. He may or may not have further complications from his hip replacement as well. A patient this obsessive may also find further injurious habits. But yes the difference between 'a recovery' and 'a full recovery' is quite stark.
@Amergin Giles He had spinal cord damage. The central nervous system has specific proteins, called no-go proteins, that prevent regeneration of neurons in the central nervous system. This is most likely (at least studies in mice suggest such) because regenerative growth would lead to pathological neuronal pathways with risk of seizures.
@Amergin Giles An interesting thing found in Buddhists monks and others who meditate heavily is that they can actually reverse damage to telomeres and in turn reverse and slow premature biological aging to an extent, I think it was somewhere around 5-15 years and maybe even more in people who’ve been suffering from high levels of chronic stress, which has been proven to significantly increase the rate at which you age. Maybe with more studies and improved treatments the average age can rise into the 100s with an overall improved quality of life as well, rather than reaching a hundred but practically being a walking corpse with severe mental and physical impairments.
@@fatguy6153 Meditation doesn't reverse damage to telomeres. My god do you even understand how telomeres work? Don't belive in misinformation like that guy in the video.

More intelligent people do not have any advantage in finding mates and often have disadvantages."
And we have Hemingway who said "Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know." Ignorance would seem to indeed be bliss.

Just wild. So sad.
Why not just buy an ingot of zinc and lick on it? I bet a brick of solid zinc would be cheaper than those vitamins lol
Yea, should’ve gone to therapy instead
I'm genuinely surprised he didn't suffer complications after the surgery - at first you can only have liquids, for example. It's very easy to seriously hurt yourself if you don't address your food addiction as well.
@@rilmar2137That’s why the weight loss surgery tends to only offer a temporary solution. I’ve met people who eventually regained weight and over half had to repeat the surgery. It is successful only if the cause of the food addiction is addressed and not just the symptoms.

My body can take it."
That's a very dangerous mentality.

That means they had permanent damage, and were never the same.
Well it’s better than when they don’t make it
@Amergin Giles An interesting thing found in Buddhists monks and others who meditate heavily is that they can actually reverse damage to telomeres and in turn reverse and slow premature biological aging to an extent, I think it was somewhere around 5-15 years and maybe even more in people who’ve been suffering from high levels of chronic stress, which has been proven to significantly increase the rate at which you age. Maybe with more studies and improved treatments the average age can rise into the 100s with an overall improved quality of life as well, rather than reaching a hundred but practically being a walking corpse with severe mental and physical impairments.
