I have a 2012 Nissan Versa that has been above average for the most part and was an integral part of my early 20s from work to roadtripping. It has definitely gone through a lot of updates
I bought a new 2012 Versa SV sedan. I aboslutely loved it. For a little cheap car, it was so comfortable, roomy, smooth, and fairly quiet. Not many cars are great in the city and on long interstate road trips. Reliability was quite good EXCEPT the CVT. Damn thing started slipping on occassion at 38k miles. I finally traded it in at 56k miles. The sliping was slowly but surely getting worse. A shame because I had intended to keep the car for as long as possible, but I didn't want to get stuck with a $5,000 CVT bill.

@@joshuamast5128 I brought it to the dealership for it's first scheduled 30k mile CVT fluid change and they told me it was still too clean to change.

We have owned and rented a lot of Nissan vehicles over the years. We have rented 10 Maximas. Our latest is a 2019 SL. Our 2020 Versa is a purchase. For the price it is a great product. We call it our mini-max. It has all the safety features for aging drivers. Don't criticize it if you wanted a more expensive performer. Comments always focus on performance and acceleration. Again, look at the safety features. Go home satisfied. If not, get a Max with 300 HP. It gives me satisfaction.

I keep reading comments about the CVT and I was honestly really sceptical to get a Nissan because of it but we have a 2015 Versa Note with 70k miles on it and no issues at all. Very good economical car to go around, not fast but that's not the point of these cars. We also have a 2017 Pathfinder and I couldn't be happier. Zero problems with the CVT so far on either of those cars.

Luke Sylvester more like the 80k mark lol. Many people with Nissan’s don’t even make it past their second service without needing a transmission replacement.
This is a very appealing subcompact sedan. I'm leery about considering it though because of Nissan's reputaiton with CVTs. Based on my personal experience with the 2012 Versa SV sedan I bought new, the reputation is well-deserved. It was a fantastic cheap car except for the damn CVT. It was the car's Achilles heel.

The backbone of the rental car business that's about it when it comes to Versas, good for point a to b "drivers" to but anyone looking for a small , reliable and really fun to drive car should focus on a 2020 Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris/Yaris IA(Mazda 2 based), or KIA Rio

@@holynickskates Nissan cvt fall apart because people don’t maintain them. Nissan says the transmission fluid is lifetime. But in reality you need to do a transmission fluid change every 30k miles.
The reason the Cvt’s fail is because people don’t ever change the fluid. Nissan recommend 60,000 miles but the service department says 30,000 miles. Heat also kills the cvts When you’re hooning around on them. My brother is a Nissan tech and he recommends to put in an aftermarket trans cooler

I know this video is old but my concern is the missing rpm gauge thing and no thermostat thingy. If you have to press a button to get to that it seems very inconvenient and distracting.

Rental car DNA through and through. No thrills, basic (by today's standards) transportation. I don't really care for Nissan vehicles because they only use CVTs now for their automatic transmissions. Sounds like it has a decent stereo system in it, though.
That's all this will end up being in the end. Rental car stuff and that CVT.. nightmarish
Not everyone needs thrills though. There's a large demographic of people that just need an affordable car that gets them to where they need to go. This one does just that, though the CVT is nightmarish.
The feeling that you get driving it is not that different from most "normal" new cars on the road nowadays, apart from the lame CVT. It has a decent modern looking interior/exterior, it's reliable, has good fuel economy, a nice infotainment system and that's it. It's what most people want in a car. Hell, even I would have "fun" with it.
Just drive any typical new SUV and compare it to some random equivalent Land Rover, BMW or any upscale brand, they won't give you that much more apart from luxury in an everyday situation, it won't be more fun to drive than your typical SUV, you'll get the same generic SUV sensation while driving both, even powerwise they can be almost the same. If we look from this perspective, luxury cars can also be basic transportation. There's a lot of fun cars (old and new, expensive and cheap) for people who really like cars and want a nice driving experience, but those people are the minority in the world we currently live in.

Nissan CVT and reliable in the same sentence. Whoa there man, I'd take a few steps back on that one.
Also, trust me, there's a massive difference between a BMW X5 vs a Toyota Highlander for example. The Highlander is a fantastic 3 row. The BMW however will out drive it in circles. It has mind blowing handling for such a large SUV and a really engaging drive.
@@Lucky8s Surely it's a nice car, but in a daily driving condition it won't be that more fun to drive than your regular SUV, the feeling will be the same. If you want good handling and a nice driving experience, you won't buy a SUV anyway.

Tires pumped up way too hard.
Two problems. First problem is that the Versa went from $9999 to almost double that in the span of less than a decade. The other problem is they're still using those awful CVT transmissions.
the more recent CVTs are significantly better. if other manufacturers started using CVTs when Nissan had, they probably would have had just as many issues.
I have a 2016 Sentra SV with 130,000 miles that I got used. Zero service records related to the transmission. It’s doing some wack stuff but still drives fine.

Eso es un mito, te lo digo por experiencia con un aveo automatico q no le ponia el freno de mano y nunca se dañó , me duró como 8 años pq lo vendimos despues para comprar otro vehiculo. Ahorita con el Nissan Versa 2020 incluso la agencia cuando me entrega el carro no le pone el freno de mano y asi en puro Parking
@@MrGoding97 alli la transmision esta frenando el auto y no debe ser asi. Ingenieros automotrices indican que la transmision no debe hacer papel de freno para esto son los frenos de disco y el de mano,esto solo es valido en camiones con su freno de motor.
ahhh.... the good simple days, a real car, nothing fancy or complicated, good room for passengers, a decent trunk, a spare tire with lots of room behind it.... give it a good 6 speed manual, leather wrapped steering wheel and nobody REALLY need any more than that for fun, simple, decent, transportation.... even Greta Thunberg would approve I think

I rather deslike her and all that green movement to be honest , but when you see so many people driving huge gas guzzlers for no reason sometimes I think she has a point. I myself drive a 2015 Nissan Micra 5 speed in Canada, basically a 5 door hatch of this Versa. I love the little thing, lots of fun, peppy, very good on gas and it really is ALL you need for commuting or basic transportation.
