I totally agree 🙈 And to be honest: I’d choose the Zenith over the Rolex. Because you see this watch less than the daytona, it has a great manufacture movement and looks positively different.
So true. My definition of “expensive” changes drastically when talking about watches as compared to everything else in the world. Too bad my budget stays the same.
First and foremost, thank you! Two years ago I put down most of my savings for my first ”real” watch, and bought myself a 42 mm Zenith El Primero. I spent countless amounts of hours on the internet and in various retailers when I was trying to decide what watch I was going to buy, and (except for choosing the 42mm over the 38mm version) I couldn’t be happier that I chose the Zenith. They are a fantistic watchmaker and deserve much more recognition than what they are currently recieving. All in all, thank you for the great video and highlighting a truly fantastic watchmaker!
“For all the talk that 40mm is a sweet spot, I’d counter that with 38mm” 🙌 As someone who doesn’t want huge watches, this is a big deal for me. I really do hope more brands will make smaller watches. I sold my 39mm Explorer because it get too big and now have a Cartier Santos in medium (it’s absolutely lovely on wrist too). JLC have released a 36mm of their Ultra Thin Moon and I’d love to see some reviews of it. It’s got the same movement as the 39mm counterpart so for the most part, alternative movements isn’t a reason to make bigger watches… This Zenith looks like it’s made my list of possible future purchases!
It all depends on individual wrist size. Personally I’ve got relatively big wrists; for me 41mm is the sweet spot and anything less than 40mm actually starts to look small. But for a lot of people out there 36mm would be ideal. This is normal. We don’t all take the same shoe size, so why would we all take the same watch size...
The thing with modern 40mm is that they are so thick and heavy. Even if one's wrist can handle it, the size and the sheer weight counter the idea of wearing a watch. I believe that at 38mm a chronograph is a perfect size. Smaller is of course better, but to consider that it was a tool for the visibility it needs to get in a size that is not too big or small.
Zenith keeps dropping one stunner after another. Impressive! Great looks, great movement, great brand history. The have their only weakness in the marketing department, which is fine. Keeps away the hype...
This is so true. Keep the hype low or the watch will become unobtainable. Remember Zenith only produce around 15-20k watches per year while Rolex produces millions
The G381 revival is almost sports chronograph perfection, stunning watch. Even though they boast pretty much the same movement I think a Patrizzi dial Daytona and a G381 would be a sublime two watch collection.
I saw this watch in the metal the other day, and I instantly fell in love. The dial, the movement, the size--the watch is close to perfection. I hope you get one, and wear it in good health.
1:01 you forgot the most iconic chronograph of all time bro bro. The Breitling Chronomat and Navitimer. I mean they only invented the 2nd chrono pusher 😉. Speaking of "overlooked"...oh the irony!
Hola. Madre mia!.....con ese pozal de cafe con leche necesitas tambien media docena de magdalenas " pa mojar"....... bonito reloj......bonito coche. Un saludo.
At this point, best to just assume that anything Hodinkee puts out is an advertisement for its products or products from another company it’s related to. Should they let people know about the connections to put their bias out front? Probably. It would be especially helpful for new folks to the hobby to know they won’t be receiving impartial reviews.
@@Joe-xo3xy because Hodinkee are hyping up a product that their parent company sells. In this case it is a sub-par watch clinging onto Daytona hype, but unlike the Daytona the Zenith loses most of its value. It is an advertisement cloaked as independent watch journalism, and is highly unethical if not illegal.
The reason I don't have one is not so much that I'm not sure how to pronounce the name. It's more based on the fact that it's equivalent to almost two month's salary for me.
Great video and a fantastic watch… but Jesus Christ: “value packed at $8,400”?! Just because it’s less than a Daytona (which carries an INSULTING price) it doesn’t make it a deal.
It's pronoucned "Szen-eet". The "z" in German is not pronounced the same as in English, and the "i" is pronounced more like "ee". The "th" sound does not exist.
You know you’ve gone deep when you agree with “comes in at a value packed price of $8k” lol
I was sitting there nodding my head that 8k+ sounds about fair before catching myself
😭
To be fair used they are about 4-6k. Agree a lot of coin but a lot of value considering the crazy prices in the market now.
I totally agree 🙈

I think this is such a cool watch! And love the car pairing!
totally agree. Beautiful watch. Great car. Classic.

“For the record, it’s Zenith,…..I think….” Love it! Totally made the video for me.
not me or anyone
Very thoughtful video. I subscribe to the Hodinkee newsletter, but did not know Hodinkee made videos too. I will check more of them out.

It's a great watch, but my heart is set on the Chronomaster Sport. I hope that this takes some of the preassure off of it, so they are more available.
Fantastic work Hodinkee! This was great work and shout out to the presenter, chilled but not too laid back that it becomes boring. Big kudos.
I love this watch. Gold just looks the part
Lovely watch!
You guys done a great job
I can feel the indapth of watch throughout this video. It's a lot of watch you gave the life to zenith through this video
I have a striking tenth and I still love it.
It`s time for 4k guys. And El Primero over Daytona!
What do you mean? Where do you find the 38mm for 4000$?
@@jeromef2001 I meant 4k as in video quality
Cant wait to buy it!
Fantastic Video. Great watch. Great car.
Love it - my fav spec too
Great watch and movement. It’s on my list after I start selling stuff.

Beautiful watch 👍🏻
What is the backstory of the Tri-color sub dials?
Great color coordination between watch dial, hands, strap and shirt! Also very interesting setting to shoot this video!

nice. wearing one on my wrist
Nice one Danny
Love the watch and car in equal measure. Slightly off topic but curious as to what card holder you are using ?
Didn't Rolex actually de-tune the movement when they used it for the Daytona by decreasing the beat rate?
Yup! Not sure why, though.
@@RebuildingSaad to make it more reliable iirc…because high beat movement will make the watch have a lesser life span
It's a shame you left the coffee sitting too long before you got the coffee / watch shot.
So much better than S Pulvirent going weak in the knees about the latest Apple watch release. Hopefully a new era starts for the ‘Dink.

Is Zenith part of LVMH?
Did LVMH invest in HODINKEE?
Shouldn’t that be disclosed at the top of this advertisement?
why cant you just enjoy the effort these guys put in?

If not illegal then surely edging in unethical.
but can you swim with it? Several inquiries to Zenith lead to either: No response...Yes....or I'll check.
I love watching videos about watches I cannot afford. It is safer that way
How did that Peugeot 203 Familiale end up there at 0:48...
Hey! Madison, NJ!
I always want to get that 386 case. But this is out of stock for now :(
Oh god if only they didn't put the date wheel
Not a big problem for me. I think they do offer a no-date version on the Shadow
The date was on the original dude
These Week on the wrists are Danny getting back at Hodinkee for making him write about the Space Jam watches.
By that I mean he is recreating a lifestyle based on the watch and it looks like a lot of fun.
What's his wrist size?
Jack should be the only one allowed to do a week on the wrist
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee comes to mind. Was that a commercial or.a week on the wrist.?
How do reviewers keep saying that the Daytona is $14K with a straight face?
Lets see a watch review of the Omega 300M 2022 Beijing Olympic edition
The reason I don't have one is not so much that I'm not sure how to pronounce the name. It's more based on the fact that it's equivalent to almost two month's salary for me.
Well yes. Two months of not eating. I am considering getting it second-hand in the future if it happens.
Coincidentally Breitling introduces a Mustang inspired Top Time for around $5k.
That girl in the coffee shop reminds me of the first girl I fell in love with at my swimming class when I was a boy.
You and most every other boy
I could buy this watch and this car without consternation. But then I would have to go back to working, so I’m good.
If it was a true panda 🐼 and there was no date complication, it would be perfect.
Why? The identit of the watch is the colorful sub dials, and the date looks cool too..
Fantastic watch .. I have the zenith chronosport Classic cars which has the date window at 6, looks amazing ...
Is it an ad?
I think Brits will inevitably say ‘Zen-ith’ whereas most Americans will tend toward ‘Zeen-ith’
The silver 911 is much more appropriate for a chronograph. NOT a 6 cylinder convertible Mustang.
love them both.....
Not exactly a horological masterpiece but, like the Mustang being driven, a helluva lot of fun to spend the week with
The Mustang is terrific. As analog as it gets.
No one going to mention how stunning the cashier was? 😍
Did y’all hire Ted? This feels very petroldinkious
I was thinking about the exact same thing!
I just wish they did a no date version. The date location I just can't get passed it...
I love how cheap it is. Literal pocket change for me. I'll probably buy it tomorrow.
Aint a Navitimer but its nice
Date function is something I wished they left in the past.
Great video and a fantastic watch… but Jesus Christ: “value packed at $8,400”?! Just because it’s less than a Daytona (which carries an INSULTING price) it doesn’t make it a deal.
It is quite expensive. But i think with the modern built quality, you can always expect to get one-second hand at a lower price in the years to come.
I'll take the mustang instead. Thanks.
She's a beauty...
Watches are getting ridiculous now. The only way to justify it's price is to say it's 4000 cheaper than a Rolex daytona?
this watch has been out for years
Nope. Not the same
It's pronoucned "Szen-eet". The "z" in German is not pronounced the same as in English, and the "i" is pronounced more like "ee". The "th" sound does not exist.
Shhh! It's under the radar so stop talking about it or "they'll" catch on.
Monaco
Crazy how a super cool watch and a cool car still don’t make him look cool at all
😆😆
I’m in the dislike camp with 4:30 date windows. To my eyes It always looks awkward and throws off the balance of elements.
Should have taken out the Porsche
No match for the Daytona. Sorry.
so cliche talking
