    don't forget that the jiggle pin on the thermostat needs to be on top when replacing the thermostat. also yes stock Hondas have hose clamps on the radiator and resorvior.

    Putting green in these hondas is not a good idea. The owners and service manual calls for the honda specific type 2 blue coolant. And also tells you to remove the plug on the engine block next to the oil filter to drain the block of old coolant.

    Lots of missing information, I am familiar with honda's...first, it's not a peacock, it's a petcock....and as far as concentrate antifreeze, the mixture of water must be distilled water, not tap water or purified water, distilled, available at cvs or grocery store in gallon containers, save yourself some time and buy 50/50 premixed....further, draining the radiator does not flush the system, all the old coolant will remain in the engine and heater core, so it's a half ass change. to do this right and complete, there is more work required, I recommend that do it yourselfers do your research on correctly flushing, purging and filling your system on your honda civic correctly, not like a half ass as this video shows.

      He also probably didn't put the thermostat in right - The little fitting that jiggles around has to fit in the grove on the mount to be fitted properly.

      Yeah I wouldn't recommend doing coolant change for Hondas because apparently it's rocket science.
      I just wrecked my 2002 Civic when I tried to change coolant and thermostat. I installed new thermostat exactly like the old one (air hole and gasket notch on top and element towards engine block). After draining and flushing I kept radiator full with new coolant all the time and squeezed hoses to get the air out while engine was idling. Cabin heater was blowing hot so there was no air in heater core but I don't know what the hell went wrong because radiator fan didn't kick in even once and temp gauge needle didn't go past the middle mark. Then suddenly exhaust noise changed and I saw coolant dripping out from the exhaust pipe when headgasket failed. I thought that maybe new thermostat was stuck closed but it opened just fine at around 80C degrees when I tested it afterwards. Also radiator fan worked fine previously. Maybe temp gauge sensor was bad because it didn't show overheating even if it was hot enough to blow the headgasket. Anyways, all I can say is SHIT and I sure could use a time machine (again) and never attempt to change coolant. And I thought that I did research everything by reading dozens of istructions and they didn't mention anything special about bleeding, just let idle, add coolant and after fan had worked 3 times it's done.

      YoStu. So then, what was wrong with the way you did it ?

    • @YoStu242
      @YoStu242 6 лет назад

      @@RobertMOdell Apparently I should have loosened coolant temp sensor located in thermostat housing to bleed the block properly. Other people have mentioned overheating at idle but mine didn't show overheating before it was too late and it was spitting coolant from exhaust pipe. Temp gauge showed normal temps.

    • @RobertMOdell
      @RobertMOdell 6 лет назад

      YoStu. Instead of trying to drain out the actual engine block, what do you think about the option of just emptying the radiator and running distilled water with flushing agent through the whole system to get the old radiator fluid out ?

    Great Video, very helpful. I bought an 07 civic and it has a temporary (green) coolant in the reservoir and radiator. I got the correct coolant from the manual and i want to switch coolants. I've seen in other videos that they use your method but also flush water down the radiator cap. Would you recommend this? Is it safe?

    That small reservoir hose that connects to the radiator keeps popping off. I thought it needed a clamped so I did and I guess there was real pressure so it shattered my coolant hose. So I'm guessing that the resirvor hose doesn't go clamped because it's intended to release pressure since its supposed to find the path of least resistant. My problem is that the small hose keeps popping off. I already changed the thermostat, bled the system, and changed the radiator cap. The head gasket are fine too. Any suggestions?

      Use distilled water. It’s where you boil water and collect the steam and condense it back to liquid. Removes the minerals, which cause the corrosion.

      @@dubyajayyo thanks for teaching me how this water is done . you are a very cool person. Well that comment that I've made was just about what most brazilians do with their cars , I used the honda coolant on the first year and since the cars was filled with rusty places I've tried using things to help take off the rust even with a power drill and metal brushes and after that I didn't had the money to buy that honda coolant and i use another brand of coolant . now days my life got very problematic to have money left to take care of the car as i used to . last year I've adopted a cat didn't knew she was pregnant and months later she was pregnant again and then her daughters got pregnant as well now one year later i am having to take care of 25 cats and with this covid19 killing today a total of 1004 people in my city alone that has one million of people no one is adopting cats maybe dogs but no cats and I dont even eat properly for a while just so they wont have anything missing . my life is not as it used to anymore and the worst is that i need to find home for each one of them . I've tried many places and people and friends and nothing i don't know what to do . but thanks for that message it made me feel well for a few moments.

      Need to replace it with the spring side in toward the engine (pointed end out) and with the air pin at the top. The little pin allows air to purge. Don't forget the rubber seal/o-ring.
