- LG's QNED99 is a flagship 8K LED TV with mini-LED backlight technology, quantum dots, and a slightly confusing name. With all that tech inside, it's possible this could be LG's best-looking LED-based TV, but does LG's IPS LCD panel get in the way or finally shine?

Mini-led is having its day in the sun. Hisense dual cell is coming, and then maybe QD OLED next year? What new TV tech are you most excited about? I’m not sure I’m sold on mini-LED yet.
Thanks Caleb for your prompt response. Am I to understand that if there is no urgency to get a TV right away, wait until next year?
@@henryphilippeaux4503 Not necessarily. I think it is going to be a few years before some of this new tech really grabs a foothold, if it does at all. This year and next is a tough time to buy new TVs due to pricing going or staying high because of supply chain issues.
4:29 For the love of wallets, man! Don't say such things on video!
QD-OLED & OD zero from TCL
A 12 bit, Dual Cell TV, with 2.000 nits of peak brightness... that would be great. (Produced by Panasonic or SONY, would be even better.)
I've had this exact TV for well over a month. I love this TV, and like you said towards the end, I just sit back and watch it, and I think it's awesome.
hi thinking of pulling the trigger on the 86" model for £2400 here in uk a bargain for size/quality just can't get oled out my head, u think the blacks/contrast are close with this tv?..
BRAVO, Caleb, BRAVO!
I have this QNED99 tv 65", and you Hit this Review out of the Park!
Love it!
Hey man, just got this TV 65 in. on clearance from BB for $450. Are u still living it? Thanks!

I was about to say the same

Did I miss anything here ??
Must have been diagnosed with diabetes and now on the mend.
I just purchased this TV, even though it’s a 2021 model based on your recommendation. I’ve been a follower of your reviews for some time and have found them credible and informative. It’s funny how other reviewers seem to push one brand over others, regardless of what brand they’re actually reviewing. Some of your reviews, especially on this Qned99 are a complete contrast to theirs, buti trust your judgement. So thanks for keeping it honest and real and I’m sure i won’t regret the purchase based on your review. PS - if it’s not like your review, World Domination will not happen 😊😂.
Been waiting for this one. Thanks Caleb.
I find it beneficial to see what displays can arrive damaged or the frequency of dirty screen effect. I hate getting damaged products. It makes me feel like I am less likely to freak out after spending big bucks and receiving one of these. If it happens even to you, I feel I can calmly pack it up and return it for another, and avoid getting irrational about a delicate piece of electronics not making it from the manufacturer to me in perfect condition. Keep up the good work.
This channel and Fomo are my favorites, and Caleb, you are always a friend in my mind. The TV is looking good, but even from this side of the screen, I am not as wowed as the TCL 6 Series 8k. A head2head will need to happen for sure. Of course considering the pricing as well, there must be a clear winner. Great video, I'm excited for the 4k version!!!
Can't wait for those VS videos! And I'm very excited for the 4k version review b/c it's closer to my budget! Also, wasn't mad and there is nothing to forgive other than LG's long shipping time.
Actually, LG was really fast. The video just had to get pushed back on the publish schedule. Thanks for you patience!
@@Caleb_Denison Well then... I owe LG the apology! Sorry LG!
Alright fine, I've subscribed. That reference to Ned Flanders deserves a hit to the subscribe button. Hope this helps with your world domination.

B The Installer completely trashed talked the QNED99 but keep hearing really good reviews about this TV.
He had the smallest size which generally the worse of any TV range on the market. It also it could be he had a defective panel causing his problems. As I said previously about his reviews you have to take his reviews with a grain of salt and check it out for yourself.
@@gunnyo50 cool, thank you for the information 👍
In all honesty I wouldn’t put much stock in anything that dude has to say about any LED sets because he’s a known OLED fan and he lets his bias prevent him from being objective.
As I’ve said before there’s nothing wrong with having a preference it’s just that if you’re going to try to give impressions on tech that you don’t really care for (in this case a LED QNED set) then you need to keep your bias in check. If you can’t do that then you shouldn’t be trying to give a review.
I’M TOTALLY GETTING THIS TV! THANKS!

Theres certainly a contrast. I prefer the real world performance testing of vincent myself, less opinion, more fact.

awesome video caleb
Caleb, you didn’t mention anything at all about ATSC 3 on this TV. Do you know whether any TV with that tuner allows you to watch PiP? I like the idea of watching 2 different channels at the same time.
I think caleb should do a giveaway every month where we would help a viewer tune their TV spend 30 min with the viewer by helping them tune the tv. That would be a cool thing to do.
More interested in your providing a review on the LG QNED 90 4k model.
My sentiments too.
They're not available yet. I am sure he will have one for review soon
@@lakorai2 I’m getting one tomorrow from BB.
@@johnb4905must have just been released. Under most circumstances I would recommend an OLED though due to superior black levels.
@@lakorai2 Nope, it has been a few weeks now. BB probably had an initial exclusivity agreement. Other retailers are now starting to get them. But Caleb usually gets test units from the manufacturer and at times long before retailers. Ex: G1.
I have a QNED 90 and it is AMAZING. So beautiful. The HDR response is stellar!
I have the 75” QNED 91 here in Europe and it’s basically the same as the 90, excellent with HDR10 and Dolby Vision content.
I think most people that give negative comments about QNED lineup just didn't see TV at all. Or blindly thrash it because of ADS panel.
@@user-oq4rm5ci9p I totally agree it’s important to actually see any TV before making judgments. I’d say the 4K model performs similar to the Samsung QN85A, the QNED doesn’t get quite as bright but it does have better detail and less black crush.
@@theexpatgunner How it performs in terms of black level/blooming control/contrast? Watching in a dark room is possible without significant blooming?

LG Mini-LED features a bit more caption halo than the competition, but bearable with the benefits of IPS technology. Adding in their much-loved parallax effect, it's even more affordable than Sony TVs.

PS Sir, you are showing great aptitude for politics.

LG WebOS used to be the fastest and smoothest OS smart tv , with Android tv seems the sluggish one, but now Sony's google tv became smoother and faster than any OS tv on the market
Google tv did improve but it still got App crash issue and bug with supporting Dolby Atmos sound from the Disney+ app and some streaming apps. Tizen are WebOS are far better OS over Sony and any other google TV out there.

The one thing I miss any review is the pricing. I don't know if that a RUclips thing or what. When picking out a new TV I always go with what's in the budget. Since the MSRP is never mentioned it's a lot if research. This would be a tv I might purchase or not.
It's not hard to get a general idea. Click show more and you get a link to the TV being sold by Best Buy (usually). It isn't MSRP, but as the price changes throughout the year, you can see what it will cost you when you are looking. I've read older reviews when looking for a new TV and the price from 6 months ago won't help me now, but a link to the product on sale gives me a current price.
OTOH, the current link is to the A1 not the set being reviewed.
@@percysowner but my point is they compare apples to apples when reviewing the TVS. The price point should be part of the review. I know it's not hard. All I am saying is the price should be part of the review.
@@richardnickell4116 If you go to RTINGS and then go to their TV charts you can compare all the TVs together then decide on what TV meets your needs.
@@richardnickell4116 Extremely expensive and not worth the price. End of this discussion
I have been on a strike looking your TV reviews because I'm considering pull the trigger on a 50" Tv. For the time being I got a TCL 4 Series 43S423 for $50 because it was stuck on the splash screen when powering on and found a motherboard, with the screen timer and the psu for $20. IMO it looks incredible, I can't imagine how those more sophisticated and expensive Tv's at or closer to 1,000 nits should look like 😬🙌🏻
I still liked the first video and found it informative. I don't see the problem.
We want a comparison to the C1!
LG has a LOOOOOOONG track record of big, bright, excellent monitors for gaming PCs and they are relying on it to boost their MiniLED sales. I have a non-Mini LED LG TV and it works super well.
I would get one of these.
please note that you can turn off the TruMotion in Cinema Home mode. In order to do that you need to go to the AI menu and turn off the setting that is called something like "auto adjust based on content". once it is off, the TruMotion setting will become enabled, and you can turn it off.
The picture seems to be noticeably brighter in Cinema Home mode, compared to Cinema eventhough the contrast setting is 100 in both, so it maybe better to use the Cinema Home.
You make technical data sound almost exciting! Between an LG C1 83inch at $5,000 and an LG QNED 86 inch at $4,700, which one is the better deal?
We need new TCL 4k 6 series - android TV review!
That one is about a month away. 5-Series is on its way!
@@Caleb_Denison 👍👍
I don't watch caleb because he is the best TV reviewer on RUclips but because he has the best personality compared to other reviewers.
Fluked into an 86 QNED99 and also had an 83 A90J at the same time in the same room side by side. After a couple of days of comparison with quality source films and material, the A90J was returned and kept the LG. Was an easy choice. Its that good.
Very interesting. I was expecting you to say you kept the A90J as most people just swear by OLED. Do you mind if I ask you some questions? I’ve been juggling a couple of sets in my head and desperately need to replace my dinosaur LCD set. This set has been at the top of my list with the Z9J running a close second. I’ve also juggled some OLEDS in my head but I’m afraid of burn in and reflections. Also hear that OLEDS may be too dim for a room with lots of sunlight and other lights. My TV will be in the living room with moderate to above average sunlight and quite a bit of living room lights during prime time hours.
So is the QNED99 noticeably brighter than the A90J? Also have you experienced any of the backlight fluctuations with subtitles Caleb talks about in this review? Also how is the reflection handling on this TV? I know most TVs have some kind of reflections but if it looks like a mirror then that’s problematic. Sorry for so many questions but it’s downright nearly impossible to get any info on the QNED99. It’s like nobody has this set or not speaking much about it. Oh last question: How are the blacks/contrast compared to the A90J? From what I’ve read and heard so far this TV seems to be doing a nice balancing act between deep blacks, detail and color.
@@XBLdynamatrix Quite a few questions but I'll try and answer without writing a book. The QNED is definitely brighter than the A90J and would be the better suited in your room you describe. Also keep in mind comparing 4k to 8k upscaling is like night and day so the A90J pretty much gets left in the dust. Blacks are very good and blooming is pretty much non-existent. The semi glossy screen does have a slight reflection from sunlight in a window but its only during daytime and pretty minimal. Night time with complete dark room, vivid setting, with 8k upscale .... it just doesnt get any better at current. A 4k OLED couldnt keep the pace. If the Z9J were mini led, it might be a competitor to the QNED, but SONY isnt there yet.
@@djrc5228 Thanks for taking the time to respond. Appreciate the information.

Nice LCD tv. Looks like a winner.
Thanks for the review , but what about the cable tv content quality?Regular people still watches cable tv content ? Is there pixelation ?
It's good to finally more see Mini-LED TV showing up. I'm still rocking an LG OLED B6 (2016) and would love to upgrade within the next few years to a nice Mini-LED. The living room is a bit too bright for an OLED most of the year. Hopefully, 2023-24 will be a good time to upgrade. By the way, how is this TV in a bright room?
Don’t wait or you’ll always gonna be waiting

Hello my friend I been washing your videos Since 2017 were LG start making his brand noticeable, I bought a new LG E7 back then for 5k and I been noticing that it was a waste cause I see now many options TVs that is more better and COST way cheaper that the one I bought is very disappointing to me. What you recommend me buy another one or keep this one still until 8k really hit the time?? Thk you I always looked your videos.. keep good work
What are the diet and exercise of this RUclipsr? He is looking just as good as his 8K TVs and I would love to find out how! Great review by the way!
I love the true motion
Really curious how this compares to Samsung's QN90A (4k), since their QN900A (8k) has pretty bad bloom & dithering in shadows with 8k content. Essentially an 8k version of the Samsung QN90A (+ multiple 2.1 ports) would be very appealing to me.
Good job on the weightloss look 10 years younger
When cleaning just the dust with a microfiber cloth is really necessary unplug the power cable or just turn off the tv/monitor? Thanks
Hi, Thanks for review. I have a question. Which is the best tv between Sony X95K and LG QNED99? I usually use tv for gaming and watching movie.
No starfield test? No backlight motion test? No color gamut test? No smooth motion tests? Many things left out of this review that should be in all tv reviews.
One question for you Caleb, does 4k content look worse on an 8k TV? My experience going from 1080p to 4k was that 1080p content didn't look as sharp as they would on a 1080p. It seems the focus on 8k means high end experience will only be reserved for the 8k variants of a TV. LG is doing it with this tv, but other brands too. I don't like the idea of upscaling.
AI upscaling has come a long way in just the past few years. Look up some videos on how well the nvidea shield handles AI upscaling for an idea of where upscaling is right now. I own a shield and definitely think the 'fake' 4k is much better than 1080p.
Hi Caleb. I have a question not related to this actual video. I'm trying to decide between three similarly priced TVs. The TCL 6 Series (2021 model, $898), the Samsung QLED Q80T (2020 model, $1200) and the Sony X950H (2020 model, $998). They're all 55 inch. Any thoughts? or should I splurge and spend $1300 on the LG CX OLED?
Caleb, im really torn with the LG QNED99 and the TCL R648. Which tv would you prefer for gaming and black levels? without seeing them both I need advice from someone who has. Thanks.
Keep up the great work! Still thinking of getting a C1 though! Hopefully for Black Friday 👍🏻
I Got one for 6666 DKK 55” 😇😇
i have a ‘17 Sony xr900e that’s still amazing till this day. i like the lg c1 to upgrade but since i have a xsx console should i wait a few more years to see how better the tv market will get then?
I have a QNED90 coming tomorrow and expect it to perform similarly to the QNED99. They have the same number of dimming zones but it has the step down A7 processor. That it may not be as bright may be a good thing for blooming.
Are you certain it has the same number of dimming zones?
Has less dimming zones on the 4K models. Just over 916 in 65”, about 1350 in 75” and 1500 in 86”
Props to Caleb for how you handled the haters. Don't pretend like they're not there, don't kowtow to them. Just address them, call them out, move on. Love it.
Does 4k still look good on this even though it's an 8k TV, like is there any degradation cause it's not the native resolution?
Should I go for the QNED 75" or Neo QLED 95a?

8K Tv's need to start coming with Display Ports, rather than just HDMI 2.1, because Display Port 2 can actually support 8K with decent colour and refresh rates. Any manufacturers who are serious about wanting in on the gaming market should start adding display ports now.
HDMI have had a contract that allows them to be the only port on TVs. This has been going on for the past 15 years or so. Details have not been stated when or if this deal will end. That is the reason we don't see displayport attached to TVs
@@tomwells8093 really? Wow. Surely it won't last more than 15yrs? Or there must be a loophole, like renaming Tv's as "Universal Displays" or something lol. The latest Tv's are just as much gaming monitors as Tv's anyway.

It's a great tv of course but still like my 65'' NANO95 8K tv. 8K might not be required now but I do think tv manufacturers put their best components & technology in their 8K tvs. That's part of the premium price.
I have a Vizio P659-G165" and It suffers from the same problem with the closed captioning as the LG. The screen dims when the closed captioning/subtitles is on. If I go from medium to high on the backlight it gets worse, if I go to low the whole picture dims.
Please compare it with the C1 I'm looking to buy a new TV for my living room
I hope this technology also implemented into LG 32 and 43 inch displays.
I'm looking forward to the new tcl 6 series with Google TV
Is this a good choice for a bright room ?
I'd love to see a head to head with say a budget Sony Bravia and a Premium Sony Bravia to tell whether in real life there is a very noticeably discernable difference
Still waiting for a 4k120 with VRR on at least TWO hdmi 2.1 ports with great color accuracy and black levels for under $2k for a 65" in something other than OLED. I may end up just buying an LG OLED anyway but I have some faith with this and Hisense and TCL new TVs and tech coming out with full-featured reasonably priced models

Digital Trends only review TVs that they are loaned to by the companies for free. Sony hasn't had a habit of doing that with their Z models, if at all. Usually they have a show where select few reviewers can see the TV for an hour or so each. With the current state of the world that won't be happening either. So reviews will be even more scarce for the Z9J. If you haven't heard already it can do 10,000 nits at 5% window on Vivid mode. Over 7000 in Custom mode. Around 2500 nits full screen brightness, which is more than just about any TV can do for its peak brightness. The Z9J TV is off the charts!
Just for gaming alone would you recommend this tv or the LG C1 would there be much of a difference?
same
Am deciding between 65” QNED 99 and 75” QNED 90… Is the 8k and upgraded processor worth the smaller screen size? Are there any other differences? Idc about the extra 2 HDMI 2.1 ports for the record
I had the same decision, I went for the 75” QNED90/91 in the end. It’s great.
I’m getting ready to buy this used off the display of Best Buy..they are giving it to me for 1800. They have had it on display since December of 2021.
Do you think that’s a good deal?
The thing about the entire tv dimming from just captions happens on my ~2014 Samsung. Super annoying, but in my case, when the tv is dark enough (like a loading screen with some text) the entire tv turns off. I assume this happens bc it actually dims to zero.
Is the loss of vrr on this model a major factor for gaming? The 4K model has it but not the 8K model.
