    I dont know if others have mentioned but, the Predator was played by Kevin Peter Hall. He also played Harry In Harry And The Henderson's, a family fun comedy. Harry is Bigfoot, essentially, and the Henderson's bring him back to suburbia. It's fun! In 1992, I think, Kevin Peter Hall was involved in a bad car accident. He was rushed into surgery where they accidentally gave him contaminated blood. Sadly, he passed away. RIP Kevin Peter Hall

    Jean Claude Van Damme was originally in the Predator suit and he quit after a few days because he hated the suit and he wasn't going to get a film credit.The actor that played Billy,was known to get into bar fights and had to have a bodyguard and the bodyguard was to protect other people from him.Arnold had all his food flown in because he didnt trust the local foods for sanitary reasons.Some of the cast and crew got diarrhea.Arnold had weight lifting equipment in a back of a truck and the cast would lift weights and go running in the morning to look like soldiers. Jesse Ventura(A Navy SEAL)and Richard Chaves(Poncho) were both Vietnam Vets.All the cast got along.

    This is the first movie to use the idea of a man pack mini gun. It was given to Jesse because he was the biggest actor on set. The back pack carried the battery and fuel for the gun. As it only shot small bursts of flammable gas not bullets.
    Carl Weathers said that working during filming became a competition. He found out Arnold would start moving workouts at five. So he started at four. The next morning Arnold was in the gym at three. Carl saw Arnold runing 2 miles after filming so he ran 5. Next day Arnold ran 6 and then worked out. Finally Carl told Arnold you win.

So they went back to the drawing board. Stan Winston who was Hollywood's greatest creature and prosthetic designer worked with James Cameron to design the cool look of the Predator.

    The general is played by R.G. Armstrong...the one briefing Arnold/ Dutch Schaffer.
    Armstrong was in one of Arnold's earliest films, Stay Hungry with Sally Field and Jeff Bridges.
    The director asked Arnold to shed weight for the film, as the film was coming close to completion, Arnold was already building back up to defend his Mr. Olympia title for the sixth time against Serge Nubret and a young Lou Ferrigno in 1975.
    Arnold won, becoming the winningest Mr. Olympia in history until his record was broken by Lee Haney in 1991...the first eight times Mr. Olympia was followed later by Ronnie Coleman in the early 2000's.

    This film to me is a lot deeper than most people think. Yes, it has amazing action, but what makes this not just some shoot-em-up was a few smaller points, and then a big one.
    First, is that it is a dangerous world with bad state actors such as the Russian advisors and suppliers of weapons for the rebels to either overthrow a government or make a lot of chaos that the U.S. would have to deal with; and the "assets" that are "used"/expendible to fight against that. Back in the eighties the Soviets were still trying to spread their communist oppression to all corners of the world, and a lot in Central America and the Caribbean. A nice touch was that the deceiving "agent man" using the team as expendible assets became one of those expendibles himself.
    Second, is that Dutch's team are observed by the Predator as by far the best-of-the-best in fighting aspects with their weapons, tactics, and physical execution. The most capable "prey" on the planet not only among other humans, but they just squash the predator scorpion like it was nothing (I think the Predator identified some with that scorpion sort of like it was an evolution cousin).
    The big one is that the Predator is not an evil monster, but an intelligent being with a honorable moral code. Once he recognizes Dutch is our(humanity's) apex fighter combining clever intellect with exceptional physicality(strength, athleticism, accuracy of movement, etc.). He is our champion fighting for our honor among the beings of the galaxy. Are we good enough to win/be respected, or will we still be considered a lower lifeform/game to be hunted and squished like the scorpion? The important point is the question: Is humanity just another animal on a galactic food chain to be hunted by a higher lifeform like we treat the other lifeforms on this planet.
    I think they portray this kind of thing with Dutch contemplating what he just went through in that silent stare on the chopper; and the way Anna's looking at him.
    There were a number of well-crafted things in this film. One of them was the turnabout where before the mud the Predator had the camouflage, etc. and was the hunter causing the team to blindly shoot a bunch only in the general direction of the threat; and then Dutch became the unseen hunter and it was the Predator blindly shooting, not knowing where the attack came from.

    It's a masterpiece. I mean just imagine trying to make this film. It could have very easily been a total disaster. It's gotta be the most quotable film as well and I think it's because the actors were mostly athletes and so their lines were mostly just cool one-liners, and the film doesn't real age either because it's just..guys in a jungle. 80's films are almost always great because they knew how to keep things balanced, even when the material was heavy they remembered to keep things light because entertainment is always what's the most important. Movies today are more into messages and leaving something open for a sequel for more money or designing it to win an Oscar with the same boring formula. Most Oscar-winning films have no replay value. Notice how in the older films they shot their rifles from the hip. It was all about fun. Haha, they don't shoot like that in movies today. Films today are way too serious. And the music scores back then were amazing.

    • @terrylandess6072
      @terrylandess6072 9 дней назад +1

      While todays films act like they are more serious - I can spell that as 'edgy'. Too much competition from the technology that now 'anyone' can make film has both watered down the talent on any given project since things like 'that' person' whom does BEST as a supporting actor now think they can lead a movie. Now apply that to every position needed to make a film and we see why todays films in general are 'less'. "Sure we wanted the best but they are spread out among 20 different studio's" is today's theme. Disney has not figured it out either. :P

    • @wheelmanstan
      @wheelmanstan 8 дней назад

      @@terrylandess6072 So many films now have too many cooks. What's great about event he silly 80's slasher films is those were passion projects. Many times it was made by a guy who saved up all his money for a camera and got funding from friends and desperate college kids BUT even though it's amateurish you can can feel the PASSION he had when he made it. A desire to make audiences freak out. He sank his heart into it. It's a bit like when you see these sitcoms where the creators star in them and they are always amazing shows, rather than these other shows where each season feels completely different than the last because they keep bringing in new people..
      But I remember Matt Damon speaking on this really well, how the digital age killed movies. Or you look at actors of the old days and they had to be able to sing and dance as well as act, or the singers ALL had to be great singers. There was no faking it until you made it. At some point it peaked. Now here we are waiting 2 years for a multi-million dollar per episode show to give us 8 episodes...and they STILL can't even deliver! Haha, things have gotten insane. If you don't have a good story and visionary at the helm then you have nothing. Just a turd covered in glitter..which is what most Netflix films are. You watch them and forget them faster than a Liftetime original movie. They're all 6/10. But what's crazy is you can look at one of those really fun films of the past that you remember fondly and somehow they're rated 6/10! Our standards have really dropped. A 6/10 film now is basically unwatchable. I wrote too much. haha
