Il soprano, che ho ascoltato per la prima volta, ha una bellissima voce degna dell'immenso Bach, tenore e basso non sono da meno. Bravo Luzt e bravi tutti, coristi e strumentisti.

This is simply 'off-the-scale' fabulous - textures, togetherness and so goes on like the proverbial 'gift that keeps on giving!' Thank you to every single one of you!

One of the most beautiful cantatas, sang by one of my favorite sopranos. I can't ask for nothing beyond this incredible beauty. I also like very much Lutz,, the director. Thank you for sharing this trasure.

This version is indeed superb, and deserves to have closer to the 2.8 million views of the NBS version, but the latter, with Keohane , Johanssen et al is also unbelievably good. The great oboist Martin Stadler is incidentally on both versions.

Wow!! I've always thought that the first Chorale melody is supposed to be in augmentation - never considered that Bach might have wanted the ordinary chorale tempo! What a Wachet Auf for me! Thanks for uploading.

This piece of music was not ment to be like a horse race, this is contemplative music mister Lutz. This music has to reach the heart not the brain, remember this when you play Bach.

Perhaps Purcell is the inventor of jazz and Bach its developer and perfecter, anyway, to me Rudolf Lutz and his friends are the best interpreters of the 'jazzy' Bach and when it comes to 'Erregung' the best perfomers of BWV 140 I know.

This most sublime corale should be played slower to fully radiate the beauty and philosophy of the music. Ton Koopman's and Van Veldhoven's renditions is perfect in this regard.

It's rare that I don't like the work of Rudolf Lutz. Sadly this is that one occasion that I find his tempos too fast for my sensitive ears.

    • @thinkforyourself2109

Not knowing this piece, I wouldn't have known the difference, but to test it, I played this back at 0.75x speed in youtube and found it sounded just fine - though 0.85x would probably be better.
The most interesting temp difference that I know of is between Genn Gould's early and late interpretations of the Goldberg Variations. The slower is more meditative and feeling, the faster more technically impressive and intense.

The first thing of Lutz's which I do not like. And for only one reason, and that is that it is too fast.

@@brumels1570 Your user name is awesome. I love Antoine Brumel. Afraid I can't agree that just because the cantata is about waking up that that means there is no upper limit to the tempo it should be played; maybe Lutz should have doubled the tempo and that would have been a real double espresso. The dotted accompaniment here has traditionally been a stately, French overture-like affair and here, all that stateliness is washed out.

@@joshsussman9432 thank you; Brumel deserves love :) I guess Im used to the tempo from Rifkin's recording. I agree if the tempo was somewhat slower it could be more stately but it is still stately. Just one shot of expresso here.
