Very nice train! There were only 8 such sleepers built for the Star of Egypt, so the maximum consist would have 10 cars: 8 sleepers, a diner and a baggage car. You´re very close to it but you still need a diner and a different baggage car. The diner used on the Star of Egypt between 1928 and 1939 was always an older teakwood diner from the pre WW1 era. The baggage car was made of steel and had no cupolas on the roof. The only negative thing when modeling this train with 8 sleepers is that you have 3 pairs of sleepers with identical numbers due to buying the 49139 set twice. That´s why I restricted myself to 5 sleepers for my Star of Egypt as I want all sleepers to have different numbers. I´m currently in the process of modeling that train which will be a 7 car train in the end. For the baggage car I got myself a german flat roof baggage car from the all steel type produced in the 20´s by Märklin, which in my opinion is the best compromise for the egyptian ESR baggage car used on that train. That baggage car type was released by Märklin as Epoch II model of the DRG, Epoch III model of the DB and Epoch III model of the DR. I got myself the DR version Märklin 4379, but it doesn´t matter which version you take as you have to repaint it white anyway. For the diner, I got myself Märklin 42769, a 4 axle Mitropa ex CIWL teakwood car, which is the most suitable car to convert into the egyptian CIWL teakwood diner 1859 which was regularily operating on the Star of Egypt. This car is the biggest challenge, as you need to add that special sun-protection-roof over the existing clerestory roof of the model and also those very specific air conditioning plates that cover the upper half of all windows along the entire length of the car sides. Those AC plates you can easily cut from construction paper but the roof is a real challenge. I found out that the roof used on the CIWL Pullman car kits by France Trains is best suitable for this project, so I got myself the shell of such a car just to get the roof and the separately attached CIWL logo, which I will cut to the right length and adjust to fit on top of the Märklin car roof. You also need to add a walking board and roof handrails along the entire length of the roof. A very close-to-the-prototype window arrangement can be reached by plating over some of the existing windows on the Märklin diner. And of course you need to paint that car white too and handletter it as well (same goes for the baggage car, which in contrast to teakwood diner also needs the golden trim lines). With the LS Models sleepers you must make sure that the cars have the extended diaphragms attached and only the last sleeper having the short diaphragm at the rear end (out of the box, these sleepers always have the extended diaphragm at one car end and the shorter diaphragm at the other end!). Also, you should paint the wheel tires on these cars white and add 3 black steps at each corner of these cars except for the corner with the ladder, which LS Models missed to do on these sleepers! Also try to add shorter couplers so that the space between the cars isn´t so large like with the provided couplers. Correct motive power is indeed a problem. These LS Models represent cars as they looked like in Star of Egypt service between 1928 and 1939, so the steam locomotives used during that time in Egypt for this train should be restricted to 2-6-0, 4-6-0 and 4-4-2 types. As far as I know, the first 4-6-2 types did not appear in Egypt until the mid 50´s. This train still operated with these cars in the postwar era (second half of the 40´s and throughout most of the 50´s) but after the war the golden trim lines were eliminated by thicker green lines, so these cars can´t be used for that era. Since Märklins famous C class 4-6-2 of the Royal Württemberg State Railways has quite a british touch and similarity to the 4-4-2´s used in Egypt for that train, I´ll be going for such a locomotive as compromise, which will also serve me well for my Orient Express, so I won´t change paint and lettering on it. And with its blueish-greyish colors, it matches the white egyptian cars very well in my opinion! It will look very good once I finished the work on it, as I also plan to install interior lights and passengers (the Märklin diner also gives you the possibility to light up the red table lights!). I hope I could give you some more inspiration now so that you can also perfectionize your Star of Egypt that you seem to love and enjoy as much as I do mine!
Oh, my! This is a veritable treasure trove of information! Thank you so much for writing it so that others could learn from you. I love your plans to flesh out this consist. Since you are currently working on it, would you be up to doing another two cars on commission so that I can flesh mine out, too?
@@DoctorHobby I´m happy I could help! When I saw how enthusiastic you are about that train (and I don´t think you´ll find many of us around in this particular case!), I just felt I should share my knowledge so that you can further upgrade it in order to have a more correct end result. Seriously? Do you want me to get that baggage car and dining car for you too and modify them in the way I do mine for money?
Wow, that is incredible information. I wasn’t even aware of the Star of Egypt, and any attempt to find some cars at a halfway reasonable pricing has not panned out. I would still love to have that train at some point, though…
@@DoctorHobby Oh my God, I´m sorry I didn´t see your answer/comment just until right now! I must have missed it somehow! Thanks for you patience!
Well done video. Great information! I never knew they existed till I stumbled across your video. I have one of the Rivarossi cars and that is all I have been able to find.
Hello there. I am Phillip in Australia. LS models are coming out with an updated version of these CIWL Egyptian wagons, this time with lighting installed. I was curious if you had any luck finding a baggage car, dining car or even a proper steam engine to run it authentically... I had an internet search and couldn't find anything.
For what's worth; the CIWL companie must be paid by modeltrain manufacturers who are using their outstanding Logo's on the side of the wagons, and logos on packaging etc... . Greetings from 🇳🇱
Excellent video... just an additional piece of information: Rivarossi marketed the white CIWL for the first time in 1983, with the reference 2912 (in the general catalog of 1983 we find the carriage)...

Bruce: Thanks for the history on this railroad and your beautifully created passenger consist and locomotive. Nice work.
Thank you, kindly! Hopefully I’ll be able to figure out what to do about the steam locomotive one day soon. Take care!
