I've run thousands of Miles, and done thousands of pushups, and chin-ups. Not physically, but mentally. I am 36 years Old with Blood Cancer. I've been fight everyday for 8 years now. I can't physically do what this man does at the moment, but I get out of bed everyday, and push my limits physically and mentally. I've been on Chemotherapy for 20 months, and on the Bone Marrow Transplant list. I know this is only temporary pain and mental anguish for now. I will get through this Blood Cancer one way or another.... In Death or in Life I will WIN. Thanks Joe, and "Goggins".

    • @matthewgodwin4626

George Thomas Ambitious has a different connotation but it’s similar. Ambitious often gets clumped into being cut-throat, taking advantage of others to get ahead, maybe having unrealistic goals, etc. Not always though. Driven is more purely about consistent action towards achieving goals without a negative connotation.

5 months ago I was also in pest control (as a 35 year old), not liking where I was in life and not a high school graduate. After listening to this podcast, there was a spark in me and I decided to get my GED. It was hard because I didn’t really pay attention in High school. I wanted to face my fears and grow as a man and be disciplined, so I decided to study for the ASVAB, it took a while and I needed to get a 50% on the test to join because I had my GED. I studied and passed with a 50, I was so happy and proud that I had what it takes to pass the test . I went through Basic military training, passed every test in Techschool and now I’m at my first duty station in Air Force Base in Idaho. I’m glad I faced my fears and decided to change my life. I’m not done and I know I will face more challenges. You might never see this but Thank you Goggins. God bless everyone who reads this, you got this!!!

Goggins will probably never see this shit but I feel obligated to leave a comment. Over the past two years I've battled depression, insecurities, anxiety and all kinds of emotional issues. Tonight my significant other, the love of my life, the one person I felt close with in this world left me. I feel broken. It feels like I have nothing left in life but myself and my demons.
After watching this interview, I ordered a heart rate monitor and signed up for some endurance events in March. I'm already in great shape but I feel like this moment is catalyst for pushing myself to the next level. Next year I want to become a SERE Specialist for the Air Force. Thank you for being a candle of realism and tough love in a cold fucking world, David. If I ever cross paths with you in real life, I hope I get to thank you for all of the good you've done.

I was a high school dropout because, academically, I was a failure. Eventually got my GED but I’ve always been afraid of school because of my failures. Like goggins said, you start to believe that you’re no good, that you can’t study and succeed like others, you can’t compare to them at all, etc. I could relate to Goggins 100% in everything he talks about. Goggins, and Ultimate Warrior, inspired me to face my fears. You can run all you want but your demons will always find you. Goggins biggest fear is water, mine was school. Even the thought of going would give me anxiety and keep me awake at night. Being real with myself…I was dumb. I was uneducated. This needed to change. I wanted to be someone I would be proud of. I decided to face my fear because I needed to taste that victory, that success over my greatest nemesis. Many days and nights of suffering, four letter words at books and papers, etc resolved into graduating with honors from the university and now pursuing my graduate degree. I eventually want to complete my PhD as the ultimate opponent that I refuse to let stand in my way from accomplishing my dream. Goggins is changing lives for the better and I’m living proof of that.

I have been down a David Goggins rabbit hole today. I have now committed to doing 75 Hard. I have one major break through in the cookie jar from last year when I didn't train like I should for a triathlon. I didn't loose the weight, I'm in Canada and didn't get enough weather to actually ride my bike out side other than like 3 days. I left for North Carolina weighing 200 lbs. It was colder there the day of the race than it was in Kamloops, BC. It was 3 degrees when we woke up and it was 5 when the race started and it was pouring rain. I had had one day practicing riding the actual race bike my friend had borrowed from her sister. I had to figure out how to get my feet in the stirrups without wiping out. I had no business evening thinking I should be doing that triathlon. But I did. During the bike, I was in a living pain of hell after the first couple miles. My crotch was raw from rubbing on this tiny hard road bike seat. I was crying in so much pain. I had to stop readjust a couple times but it didn't get better. My girlfriend told me there was no shame in not doing the run. I had nothing to prove. But when I came around that last turn and saw the transition for the run , literally yelled so loud , "My vagina has never been so f#@$%!g glad to see this transition. "😂 There was no one there but the guys packing up the cones. I didn't know if I was so far in last place that everyone had finished the run and I was just starting. I didn't care. My goal was to finish this mother f$%#@$g race. I changed out some quick equipment. My girlfriend again was like are you sure. Yep. I took off out there. My plan was to run first mile walk a minute run a mile walk a minute. Well not only did I run the whole thing, I got lost for .5 mile and had to back track cause they were already taking down the signs on the route. I saw another runner who had been behind me going a different way and realized I had to go back. I never caught her but I crossed the finish line. My friend wasn't there because she got lost trying to find me. There was a stranger and when I fell to my knees in total pride of what I had done he came over and gave me hug. I didn't get a picture of the finish line cause we couldn't carry cameras and by the time my girlfriend found me the inflatable "finish line" arch was deflated. 😂 but I know what I did. I was a total fricken warrior that day. ❤

I don't normally watch JRE but this podcast was incredible. I used to run competitively in high school, and now at 28 I'm just getting back into it. I am taken aback that he was capable of running 200+ miles nonstop, I honestly had never heard of an ultramarathon til now. But David is so right that its hardly about the physical pain as it is about the mental fortitude to get through it. Just not quitting and fighting those thoughts in your mind. That's what made me have a love of the sport, is how much it strengthened my character and made me feel like I could push through any pain in life. I was never athletic, didn't have a competitive bone in my body but after I started running in high school I eventually got down to a 6:05 mile, from being the slowest on the team at one point. @@MosesIssachar in summary achilles was a character in homer's iliad. he was one of the greatest warriors the world has ever seen, if not the greatest and could slay entire armies on his own.
he was the greek hero of the trojan war and slayed prince of troy, hector. he rallied the confidence of his fellow soldiers and lead them into battles.
they all received their confidence from fighting alongside a great warrior and a powerful leader. on their own the soldiers would be alike any other, but by achilles they formed on of the greatest armies the world has ever seen.
my point is that "one" could be in reference to achilles. though it would be wise to remember achilles only existed in mythology.

Watching the 1080 and 1212 episodes of this podcast + buying this man's book changed my life and the way I see things right now!
August 2020 I was at 233 lbs., anxiety, panic attacks, burn-out, unemployed, tried to find a new job (internship or junior position in IT) after finishing the studies but it was so hard, I failed all the interviews... I was down, all of this hit me and didn't know what to expect from life.
June 2022 - I'm at 185 lbs. No more anxiety, panic attacks. I'm doing workouts 5 times a week, sleeping at least 7 hours per night, reading books, listening to podcasts and constantly learning. Currently I'm working for one of the biggest software companies in the world.
This man was right. All of this shit was in my mind. My mind was playing games with me.
I constantly remind myself to STAY HARD and never give up.
    Thank you, David & Joe!

I first listened to this podcast while I was shooting a daily maintenance dose of heroin, just before I started painting my soon to be here daughters nursery.
Last time I got clean it was literally like being tortured a month straight. Endless muscle an bone pain, convulsion seizures in my sleep and hallucinating through the days. So I was desperately looking for a painless way out of the prison I put my life in once again.
    There’s no painless way.
“Progress comes when the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change.”
Thank you for the inspiration that helped when I felt like giving in while stuck meditating on the milliseconds of nothing between the pain.
My daughter will always have a father worth having now and get to meet him as a clean sober person when she gets here.

THC /CBD drops help withdrawal also . good luck

J Jay helllll no. I did that rout before and it just delays the shit. Deal with the pain and at most take a Gabapentin and you’ll be fine. Don’t post stuff like that unless ur a doctor man. Kids see that shit n in their desperation end up with an entirely new set of problems. Kids if ur reading this. Ask ur doctor about gabapentin for detox. It stops any seizures and restless legs and it’s non narcotic.

Goggins has changed my life, he has changed my mindset with facing difficulty.
I tried running once, I ran for 1.83km and I came back home, liver hurting, sweating, but I realized that Goggins has went through this as well.
The other day I challenged my friend to run 3KM the quickest, I started running, after some time, I was like "Man have I ran 3km yet? I don't wanna stop cuz I starting would be hard" and so I kept running for around 1 hour and 34 minutes and in total I ended up running (and a bit of walking) 16KM.
This is an achievment for me.
Now while listening to this podcast, I've been doing pushups.
    I'm on 320 pushups, at 1:56 PM I'm aiming for 1000.
    EDIT #1: It's now 2:56PM and I'm on 400 push ups.

Just remember, diet is king. You gotta cut out as many carbs as you can, especially simple carbs like "sugar" but also watch your rice and pasta. It may be better but it'll still make you hold weight.
      Good luck

As I sit here, 18 months into working out and my sorry attempt at a healthy life, working out 4-5 days a week, but slacking in my diet and only down about 80 pounds from 398 to 320 at 6 foot 3, i just finished Goggins book. I watched this to really drive it home. I sit at my table, fed up with my relationship and my progress or lack thereof, drinking liqour out the bottle with some fucking diet coke, I am “looking in the accountability mirror” and realizing I could be so much further in life and in my journey. This moment with my liqour in hand watching this is my “chocolate milkshake and giving up” moment. I vow from this moment to forward, to drive this shit home. Thank you Goggins. • @maddisonsullivan5806
      @maddisonsullivan5806 4 года назад +42

Exactly !! I recently started running and the first run I went on, I ran what I could.... it wasn’t much, maybe like half a mile, just around my neighborhood. Then the next day, I ran a little further. I started just a little further away from my house, and I ran just a little further before I turned around to start running back to my house... and the next day, I ran a little further... and a little further the next day, and before I knew it I had ran a mile every day for 5 days straight. That was my goal. After that my fuckin legs were destroyed, and I had to rest for a few days.. and the first day I tried to run after taking a break after running those 5 miles in 5 days, my legs hurt so bad and I wasn’t able to run the full mile. I had to walk a lot of it. And I couldn’t run the next day because my legs hurt so bad. But the NEXT day I went running, and even though it hurt really bad I still ran, and I did that for a while and built my leg-strength back up and now I run like 4 or 5 days a week every week, and I feel GREAT!!
I’m still working on getting better, and I still have a long way to go, but I feel really good about myself for doing this and even though it was hard in the beginning, the feeling that I get from it is worth the struggle in the beginning

Really starting listening to David a few weeks ago and I started running. Got off my ass and ran for the first time in 5 years at least. I’m naturally skinny but not fit in the slightest, I have never been able to run a full mile without stopping my entire life. Today I ran my first mile without stopping for a break. It might not sound like much but it’s something that I never thought that I had it in me, now that I know that i can do it I have found more confidence and I’m excited to achieve more and grow. I’ve taken the lessons from David and will continue to run and explore other areas in my life that need improvement, I will fail but I won’t stop till I’m done.
    Writing this right now
    I have less than $5k
    6’1 150lbs
    No career or degree
    Less than average fitness
I will change all of this or die trying
Living a life of mediocrity is worse than death to me now. Time to practice what I preach, until then everyone.

There mind refusing to let go of control in people, it's a real sign of an individuals small personal perspective and the power of delusion they have, that they cant relate to the message. "You cant handle the truth" rings hard with alot of people in our world, this is not new, they existed since the beginning. All you can do is be disappointed, not in their weakness, but the waste of potential strengths which will not be realised in these individuals. May God have mercy on their souls.

I'm a Brit but I spent 2 months recently in Texas helping to run a youth camp. One of the activities we did with the kids was to ask them to draw a timeline of their life and how happy they were during different points in their life.
As we were doing this exercise I notice one of the kids hiding under a desk and not really participating in the activity so I go over and ask him what was wrong.
He shows me his timeline and says,
"My dad killed himself before I was born so I started my line below 0 happiness. I've been raised by my mum since I was born."
That kid (15 years old at the time) was a leader throughout the two months I had the privelage of knowing him. He threw himself into every challenge and activity with a courage, maturity and spirit I had never seen before or since.
We were staying at a place in Utah at one point and he decides to make dinner for the rest of the kids. By himself. No-one told him to...everyone was watching tv at the time. Although that might sound a bit stupid, that's something that stuck with me amongst a few others.
My point is is that you don't have to have traditional strong male role models in your life. Some kids don't have a dad either because of divorce or in this case suicide. This kid was a leader at 15 years old. All the other kids looked up to him. Be like him. Learn to fend for yourself and overcome adversity. If that 15 year old can do it...so can you.
