I've been into synths since I was 12 to 13 and my dad gave me a Juno-106. I loved your video. Really really informative in a very light way. Congrats! Thank you
Fantastic video. Shows how alive these instruments really are. Seeing that new tone appear and start oscillating on the scope was a great finale. Subscribed.
You are just amazing with this. I just bought a used microbrute and thought it was “limited” till I watched your videos.Hope I can learn from you how to play this! Thanks!
Put a guitar pedal in the feedback loop for even more extreme brutalizing. My Boss BF-2 Flanger in the feedback loop produces all sorts of metallic, and pseudo-FM sounds, my Arion Octave pedal produces crazy multi-octave spreads, and my MXR Blue Box is even crazier. Careful adjustment of the master volume, any volume on the pedal, and the input volume can have big differences in feedback loops.
Thanks! You should have seen me at the store: "Hi, I need a transistor radio, but I want to hear what it sounds like BETWEEN the stations". He thought I was crazy, but you don't want one of those that mute out the noise...
Yap did that and it doesnt work with mine for the reason you are talking about they cut out the noise somehow, anyways a really helpful tip keep up the good work. Now i am trying to trigger my Alesis sr 16 drum machine with the arturia Microbrute, if you know how this can be don - via MIDI ? - just drop me a line here. Thanks.
Panos Chatzigeorgiadis good question - i thought you meant sending midi notes. I never tried sync - please check the manual or better yet just try it out ...
You can also produce noise by plugging LFO into metalilzer and setting it deep and on a higher rate. I used this kinda noise is a song for a snare drum on MicroBrute.
this is a really great demo because you actually explain the function behind the words. most of these videos just show people playing with it. thank you! now I just need to find a video on the computer (Mac) side of it.
I have a Conn Organ that does the Delay Effect with the Flute Stops and the Repeat and Sustain effects added. I have done the LFO version on a Volca Keys.
That radio idea is genius. I can do this with a digital synth- Put simply, I will sample FM Radio noise. Then, I will create a wavetable out of it and import it into a synth which allows custom wavetables. Thank you for the idea!
Love it. I've never really done much with the HPF but your vid has made me experiment. With that, and a tiny bit of filter env and a smidgeon of brute factor I've got an insane growly bass that sometimes automagically glitches up to some mad funk.
I recently started doing this with my MS-20. I sometimes use the LPF with resonance on it as well to enhance the 'click' of the kick drum. Then triggering some noise with it for some more texture to finish it off. It adds so much more character to a basic electronic kick drum.. Sounds so much better than trying to achieve it with regular eq.
Great video. I agree that the white noise trick by itself would make for a great video. Lots of great stuff here. I thought i was going to start off with a Microbrute, but so far all i have is a Volca Keys that I got a super good deal on. It's amazing how much I've been able to learn about synthesis with it, and looking forward to applying that knowledge to a MicroBrute as soon as I find a smokin' deal on one.
Nice buddy! This was easy to follow along with my microbrute at my side. Can you tell me how to do a factory reset on this using just the microbrute and no software? Thank you.
Crap! You're right... I obviously move the release slider, but say sustain and more than once... unfortunately I can't re-edit the video but I did add a comment correcting the mistake. Thank you.
My oh my, this is so much better with captions activated! Examples: 2:05 : ...to whatever rate of the fetus 2:37 : ...you're not using all of my cream add it to Luke Spencer
Great video mate... I love my Microbrute- it's a surprisingly powerful synth for the price and I didn't have a clue Incoukd do all this without any of my other equipment plugged in (usually to get side chaining I'd have the signal runnning through 2 other bits of kit) As for using the Radio for white noise generation- genius mate. Love the video. Just love it. Thanks a lot for uploading
I photographed my Microbrute Red today among other synths/bit & bobs thinking that I might sell it. I realised that I had not given it enough time/effort and even messing about with the preset patch overlays convinced me that I need to keep it and grow with it. I then ended up at your videos, which I had looked at before, which solidified that decision and inspired me some more. If you have or could make available written patch cards or instructions for some of your tips that would be amazing. Because while I enjoy watching videos and do learn from them I tend to get distracted too easily if I am in that mode instead of sitting with the synth and a few pages of paper and my ears. I know you have moved onto other synths in your videos but a revisit to this would also be good - and to think I nearly got rid! Regards Bar.
The beauty of this machine (and its lack of presets) is that with a bit of use, it *makes* you understand its functionalities. Don't rely on someone else's creativity for your patches--the world is your oyster!
Am I wrong if I say that you made a tiny mistake in the beginning when you said that delay repetition is changed with sustain? Because either logically or just looking at the encoder you’re moving it seems to be the release and not sustain encoder. (Yes, I’m slowly going through all your videos to become a black wizard level 999 like yourself, this is my quest and journey through Synthland ⚔️🦄)
Ha! You're not wrong. If you notice, a little card pops up when I say it that clarifies what I mean. Unfortunately youtube removed annotations so that's the only way I can correct that mistake until they allow me to re-do the audio. Enjoy the ride and let me know if you find any others :)
Hey Loopop, i realise this video was a long while ago, but i've just picked a 2nd hand microbrute and love it. Your video is really helpful too. A question, how did you connect the radio to the brute to manipulate the white noise? i really want to try that!! Ben
@@loopop sorry me again! I can get the radio white noise inputted but don't get how to shape it with the filter, when I try there's no difference in the frequency etc, is that magic little box you run it through got something to do with it? Any advice for a noob greatly appreciated!

I'm not looking to do major stuff just atmospheric and background noise. What would that mostly consist of when it comes to sections on the keyboard
If I am not mistaken, using a radio on the wrong channel basically means you made music with the cosmic microwave background...? That would be so awesome😁
The background radiation leftover from the Big Bang, called the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) has a frequency that is centered at 160.4 GHz. The frequency band used for the old analog TV signal is 7-1002 Mhz. Less than 1 percent of the CMB signal can be seen as static, also called "snow", when the TV is tuned to a vacant channel. The other 99 percent of the static that appears on the TV screen comes from random frequencies produced on Earth. The frequency band used for AM radio is about 550 to 1720 kHz. The frequency band for FM radio is about 88 to 108 MHz.
@@Mu1974 You were correct that some of the static heard on a radio as shown by Loopop (great channel btw) is CMB, just not all of it. I have ASD (autism spectrum disorder) which compels me to provide details that no one asked for.

I have to put the output level really high which adds a lot of unwanted noise.
