Thank you for this series! This is a combination of my favorite things to do with the Microbrute, and stuff I never even considered. The business card trick is a lifesaver - I can't even say how many times I've held a key down for 30+ minutes straight, following a drone somewhere. You've probably prevented some tendinitis. :D
Hi, I have the micro. I play around with it but never did anything serious with it. Your video has really cool examples & you explain details In an easy way to understand without it becoming annoying or dragging on&on, thanks
haha that shooting videos of your patches tip is so simple yet so genius. I can't remember how many times I took a photo of an amazing patch and see it be consumed under a sea of similar pictures.
I'd already seen these two videos but forgot most of Part 2, that Sub to Fifth knob is genius and the multi-chord arpeggio trick is also extremely useful on my Minibrute 2S because the arpeggiator lacks gate control
Not sure if this has already been posted. In addition to the business card trick, there's also another way for the Microbrute to add a "hold" function: If you're not using the 3.5 mm Gate In & Gate Out-Jacks in the back of the Microbrute, simply connect them with a patch cable. Then hit a key and the MB should hold the note. That way you can also play different notes.. The Arp/Seq also still works in this configuration and if you're done, simply unplug one end of the patch cable and it stops playing. Maybe this helps :)
Theres a sysex dump that turns your arp into a sequencer justice the mini. And yes there is one to make it go back to sequencer. There is also a pair for the mini. Once I found that out I finally bit the bullet and got a mini. Now I just wish they would make a dump to the micro the delay curve of the micro.
So the only way to use an external osc is with USB and Garageband. What about external synths Bro? The USB wont work as you've just demo'ed with GBand.
I know it's been a long time since you made this useful video but can you go into a little more detail about how you connected the Microbrute to the external sound source (in your case an iPad running GarageBand). I cannot for the life of me re-create your final two tips - I've been trying for two days! Can you explain exactly what cables, what audio interface etc? Many Thanks!
Sorry even had I made this yesterday I can't help troubleshoot individual issues. Audio is going directly from the output to the input. However, make sure you're pressing a note otherwise you won't hear the audio.
hey great video I was wondering what the software is that allows you to see the wave? I made a patch with the mircobrute for a song in my group and can recreate it and try to rep it so we can perform the song live? any help would be amazing :)
Hi, I use MOscilloscope and MAnalyzer by a company called Melda - they’re free with some limitations in the MFreeFXBundle. Occasionaly I’ll use scopes by VCV
How'd you get the Microbrute to play the keys on your Ipad? I was interested in doing this, as I have both as well as the camera connection kit, but I'm not too familiar with the setup
Can u explain how the microbrute sequencer designer works? Do i create a sequence and then export that to the microbrute? or is it just a piano roll where I test out different sequences? Also, great videos btw, keep it up!
Nvm, with a quick search on google, I came across this forum post and it details the steps. Very useful. Link here for those interested: forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=90173.0 Have yet to try this out for myself.
yes understood, but for Link to Midi, is the ipad connected to an interface, and then midi into the brute? and for the external synth - i get the ipad audio is running into the brute's line in, is the brute also midi controlling the ipad synth for notes? thx,
I have a question regarding your tip about using external oscillators: would it be possible to do this with a volca fm or volca keys? If so, how would that play out? With the microbrute oscillator turned down it would be like inputting notes on the minikeys of the brute instead of on the ribbon controller + plus being able to process the volca's sound with the filter/brute factor/etc? And when you turn up the oscillator of the brute? Would I now be able to play 3 notes at once, or would it be up to 4 (3 volca voices + 1 brute voice)? When you play a chord with the brute oscillator turned up, which note does the brute play?
I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to figure out what device I would need to connect my Microbrute, and 3 Pocket Operators to a laptop to use with a DAW (FL Studio).
Question: I’m looking to buy either the microbrute or minibrute but I’m on the fence regarding which synth is best for my creative interests. These two models seem really close to one another in terms of sound and features. However they each have a unique feature which I’m curious if you could elaborate. One has a sequencer (micro) and the other has a nifty vibrato feature (mini). I like both of those features but it seems each is exclusive to the separate models. Is there a work around to get both of these functions on just one of these synths? Thank you!
loopop - No, it doesn’t. It’s a dedicated pot and switch on the Mini. If Micro has it, it’s not obvious from the button/switch layout. That’s why I’m curious if maybe it’s hidden somewhere on the Micro? Mini doesn’t have a sequencer. However it does have a arpeggiator which seems to work much like the Micro’s sequencer. Actually it seems like the sequencer on Micro is simply a arpeggiator with a name change to “sequencer”. Difficult to gauge the difference through reviews but I’ll check out the Mini2. Thank you.
Please help! At 8:35 you operate a soft synth from garageband (Ipad) making the microbrute polyphonic... how did you do this??? I have an Iphone, a Microbrute, and a USB 2 to lightning cable. I have garageband on my phone. How do I make this work? Do I need another app that works with garageband? Do I need another cable? Thanks so very much!
I don't remember what I did here, I may have used a USB MIDI interface cable ($10) - but it should work using a regular USB cable from your USB 2 lighting cable, to the Microbrute. Let me know how it goes ;)
Hi, I use MOscilloscope and MAnalyzer by a company called Melda - they’re free with some limitations in the MFreeFXBundle. Occasionaly I’ll use scopes by VCV
loopop Thanks for making these two videos! I don't have a mb, but some of the tips are generally applicable. Feeling a bit tempted to get one though after watching. :D

NYCP NY thanks very much
loopop thanks again.
I actually have 2 different colors&was thinking of selling 1, but I kinda want it still.
Did you study synthesis?
Agreed!!
Whoa thank you so much for the polyphonic tip! The microbrute surprises me every time.
nice vids, a little tip: when clocked via MIDI the sequencer Rate knob acts as a clock divider, which is very cool!
Looper, you are fantastic! Again you teach me things , important things, that i cannot get anywhere else on earth. I wish we were beer mates🤙
Thanks so much! Come to Moogfest or Superbooth and we can make it happen ;)
Another great video. I feel overwhelmed less because of how you lay out concepts and sounds. Thanks. 👍😃

Nice one!
A thin patch cable or guitar pick will also hold the key down like the business card :D
toothpick works too
and use the business card to make a blunt filter!
a coin also works
Knives works too
And very small gerbils.
Thanks for tips. I'm gonna get myself this synth.
Very informative tutorial! Thanks for sharing!
6:22 the captions start saying "Love love love" as though the synth is saying it.
WarChief GarrKhan that's funny. I didn't put that in, it's automatically added by RUclips - I guess RUclips loves those sounds ;)
lmao that's brilliant
"and I will use the LFO to modulate the filter pulse with love love love love"
Thanks for such useful and well described tips.
Thanks!
Great video, really informative and useful. Off to study some of the others on your channel now. Thank you for putting these together.
Thanks for the generous lesson. I'd be interested in a minilogue video or fm synthesis video.
Another really good video. Many thanks
Another great useful video. Thank you so much man!

You're welcome!
very useful, thanks
Great! Thank you.
How did you get GB to work as a poly synth and control the micro brute? I can’t get any sound out of the my IPad using GB?
Here's a top tip - you can get a '4th' notch-type pass if you put the selector switch BETWEEN LP and BP... or I forget... maybe BP and HP.
During your 'external oscillators' tip, how did you get GarageBand to trigger from the brute?
pirahna1 a simple USB cable with the apple camera connection kit
So the only way to use an external osc is with USB and Garageband. What about external synths Bro? The USB wont work as you've just demo'ed with GBand.
Easy - midi out (or cv)
you are the HERO! keep goin!
that trick with the noise :)) i was jammin all night!
Great videos! The small orange patch cables have completely disappeared. Anyone got a couple laying around?

Hi +Loopop I'm wondering what is your setup to connect the iPad to the microbrute?..what cables are you using?..any tips, please?
Same question here. I used the external input and can’t get this to work the way he did in the video.
Setting the tempo via apps wasn't very well explained. You plug it in via usb or 3.5mm?

great tips again! could you just go over the connections with ipad for the tempo and external osc pieces? thanks :)

yes understood, but for Link to Midi, is the ipad connected to an interface, and then midi into the brute?
and for the external synth - i get the ipad audio is running into the brute's line in, is the brute also midi controlling the ipad synth for notes? thx,
SeniorBeatBox yes, all correct!
can you do the same thing you did with your computer in the external oscillator tip with a synth app on your phone? and if so with which exit?
I have a question regarding your tip about using external oscillators: would it be possible to do this with a volca fm or volca keys? If so, how would that play out? You can play anything that accepts MIDI IN (e.g. Volca FM). The Brute will only play one note - depending on its high-low-last setting
@@loopop Cool! Thanks for your reply

next video KE2 + MB tricks? please???
Do you recommend this instead of the microfreak?. I have a synth dilemma after watching your video.
They are two different things - Freak is more diverse, this is very specific and niche with a way crazier filter
