  • Happy Halloween! Let me jump right out here and say this video is one of my best. And that's something I rarely say for any of my videos. Not only is the flow and vibe of this nice, but the actual sculpture itself is.... too nice to get rid of to be honest! In this video I repurpose a olive jar into a Pumpkin sculpture that can hold artificial flickering candles or even "some" glowing things like glow-sticks! (see the blooper at the end lol) Despite what I said in the video, this thing has about 6 coats of orange acrylic paint as well.
    For those of you new here (PLEASE subscribe) this a Polymer Clay sculpture, polymer clay is a oven bakable clay that stays soft forever until baked. Once baked it become hard permanently capturing whatever creation you came up with. I show exactly how I made this, perhaps this will help you make your own!
    Please like and drop my a hello, I sure do appreciate it ♥

    I've made little houses over jars and the windows would light up when I put a candle etc. inside. :D The pumpkin is soo cute!! I may have to make a few also. :D - Heidi

      @@TheBroodingTom Face jar would be cool!! I should do one (or more) because for some reason I really love sculpting faces. It is very satisfying. Use your imagination with the houses... could be an elf house, fairy house, gnome house, mushroom house. :P Just have fun with it. :D Do a video too so I can see *big smiles*

    I love it! Oh and you drive clay like a pro!😄
    One ? Why did you decide to use the cosclay on the lid? So it stays stable while opening and shutting the jar?

    • @TheBroodingTom
      @TheBroodingTom  4 года назад +3

      LOL irl I sometimes drive Miss Daisy so to speak hehe or at least, that's what my wife says xD Why? Hmmm... part of me wants to say I just wanted to involve Cosclay somehow to be be current with new clay coming out, but perhaps a subconscious thought of my brain thought that area is heavily used and would most likely take the impact if the lid was ever dropped. In the future, when Cosclay fully releases, I'll be moving to that clay completely as the rim to this jar is the only part I'm confident about LOL It really is that good, very firm rubber, couldn't ask for anything better :D Can't WAIT!

    Is it safe to bake that with the jar? Or are you using air dry clay? (sorry if you already mentioned it in your video, I'm pretty bad at understanding spoken english...)

    • @cherryshrimp4120

      You can bake glass in the oven.

    • @TheBroodingTom
      @TheBroodingTom  4 года назад +1

      Yes, it is safe. At 275 degrees and when following the bake instructions you can bake many different things at that temp. :) And no this is not air-dry clay, it only gets hard when baked.

    I would love to make something like this with a homemade clay because polymer clay would be a rather hefty purchase for someone who has never done any modelling with clay, just for some halloween decorations that look smooth. Is there any home made clay or other modelling material you can recommend for this type of project that won't shrink hugely and crack?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @creationsfrommyheart2445
      @creationsfrommyheart2445 2 года назад +1

      Google homemade clay. I used the flour and salt one. It won't shrink and if mixed well and baked right it won't crack. It's good for home decor. I changed to polymer because I want to sell my stuff❤

    • @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118

      @@creationsfrommyheart2445 Thanks for the recommendations! I ended up following a tutorial that put salt dough over glass bowls last year. The jackolanterns looked amazing for a few months and then started cracking. This year I'm going to try making an aluminium foil ball and modeling the salt dough over that, so that I can remove the aluminium foil when the salt dough has hardened. I hope that will help the salt dough have room to shrink and expand as temperature and moisture levels in the room change, and not crack.
      Do you have any specific information on how to mix and bake salt dough just right to prevent cracking?
      I tried a few different salt dough recipes and eventually settled on one that has 2 cups flour, 1.5 cups salt, and as much water as needed. I baked at 90C until mostly set, and left to cool in the oven. It hardens the rest of the way by airdrying.
      Imo baking at too high a temp made everything crack, but I might be wrong about that. And too much salt made it more difficult to work with.
      I was pretty pretty sure my jackolanterns cracked because the salt dough keeps shrinking and expanding according to moisture levels in the room (which can go up and down rather wildly in this old house) but the glass bowl stayed the same size.

    As soon as I heard “this will just get thrown away and probably end up in a land fill” I was like… Wtf?? I thought it was the law that you had to recycle?? It is in our city/town. It is in most places… Not there? Nice work though. Not trying to give you a hard time I promise. Just wondering...

    • @BuriedTeeth
      @BuriedTeeth 4 года назад

      Sometimes recycled stuff still ends up in the landfill sadly. In america at least, the waste system is often not well managed, and in some areas, theres no recycling whatsoever. Where i live, all recycling objects goes in one bin, but if a nonrecyclable is found, the entire bin goes to the landfill. They dont want to sort thru it because people over-recycle.
