Thank you brother Cotton! Plants are doing well and background is holding so far! I think I may decide to add some boys in there later this week and have a new video ready for you guys this weekend! 🤞
Excellent video, and you did absolutely wonderful! I must say i kinda like that it was a personal error rather than manufacturer error, it allows us to learn more while understanding what went wrong, why, and discover how to fix it. Rather than the simple solution of just replacing the old with the new such as if the company sent out a new one. As a dedicated hobbyist with my tanks, crafts, and flowarts there is a lot of trial and error we can push through before pointing fingers at the products . Being an active dumpster diver I've also come across way to many things of high value returned and tossed saying "damaged" or "doesn't work" that only needed a brain cell and minor tweak and works fine.
Very professional video. I liked how you had detail of the whole process! With the title, I thought it happened to you again… I was thinking, oh no bro. Then I realized it was a timeline video of the whole fiasco… thanks for sharing.
Kev ur definitely the man put that back in together in under 13 minutes 😆 🤣, I think you did a great job with hooking all those plants back up my man. rookie aquarium keeper here. just found this video doing research. loved it laughed as you had issues with the plants sure i will to lool. question is it possible to save the sand you vacumed out? clean it or something? just thinking back on jobs in the field i had.
That really sucks. Good job at fixing it. At least it happened without fish. I also use foam 3d background but with filter behind. I have said to myself never again. But fiberglass 3d backgrounds are crazy expensive for big aquariums, they easily cost more than the aquarium.
Please understand that I am not being critical all. I enjoy your content. But....I am amazed that you would swap out plastic scrubbies for Matrix when you know it is far less efficient. Hey Kev, Glad you fixed your 450 tank issues. Quick question just got me 125 gallon tank, which brand of LED would you suggest?. I had a fluval marine for my 55 gallon, its too short !
Thanks bro! I use the Blade Freshwater light now which is excellent but it's a very high end and expensive light. I used to use Current USA which are cheaper but after a few years they began to dim.
Try out loop if you have never had it. All Bluetooth and app controlled. Also can get wavemakers that hook up to it and is completely app controlled to raise and lower the power levels
I’m skeptical that the lack of flow is what caused your sump plants to die. There are plenty of filterless tanks out there with zero flow and the plants do fine. There’s probably another reason for their demise. For example: do you have a light for your sump?
Maybe a little help Kev? New tank fish in cycling, Nitrite between 1&2 Nitrate between 10&20 using old filter from fish shop, stability & prime. On day 5, am I safe to keep daily dosing? Water change re-dose? No ammonia, 7.4ph. lost two in the 5 days 😕
Sorry you lost them. Remember 1 dose of prime detoxifies 1ppm of ammonia and nitrite. So if you're reading 2ppm give them a daily double dose. (safe up to 5x dose) Just make sure you have very good surface agitation for oxygenation. Dont water change yet until you reach 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite.
Love your content! My question I have a silicone aquadecor background to put in I don’t want to remove my sand because it has the BB built onto it how did the silicone work I may go this route and leave the sand and just keep enough water to cover the sand. Thank you
Hey kev, I just got my aqua decor back ground. Thanks for the discount code . I got a ultra flex and wanted to know did you cut holes and use the mesh they provide while your intakes are in the back? I use 2 fx6's and 2 wave makers. I'm gonna put a wave maker in back also. I didn't know where else to ask you so I picked this video.
Congrats on your purchase! I haven't used there new mesh backgrounds yet but i hear they're great! But no, you dont need to cut any holes. Water (and detritus) will be pulled behind the background from the sides and you wont have a problem keeping the water crystal. Here's a video I did about my intakes being behind the background - ruclips.net/video/EqRIzcvaJ6U/видео.html
During the first minute and a half of the video, did anyone else besides me keep turning around and looking behind you whenever a shadow passed by the reflection of the door on Kev's tank thinking it was a reflection on your screen and someone was behind you? Or was it just me?? 😁
Hey Kev looks good man…. what about the other pieces? And I just found my first snail about a week ago and have now removed about ten of them …. I hope I got them all out! Oh well so much for the snail free guarantee lol
I know man, these snails reproduce super fast and can take over quickly. If you can add loaches they'll help eat the snails and keep them away. Mine havent returned so far. The other pieces werent as big and buoyant so the original silicone was able to hold 😊
Speaking from experience... silicone is a horrible choice for a background hold. After trying and trying and trying on my 300 gal tank, I opted to use gorilla glue (clear). I glued it to the back and let it cure. 5-6 years later I had to move my background from 300 to put into my 75 and glue came off in a way that silicone would. Mind you that my background from universal rocks is negatively buoyant and is made of rubber type material. Exact glue I bought is gorilla clear and it smells like something you would not wish upon your worst enemy but when it cures.... it stays. Only problem is that despite the fact that its clear, under water it cures as white but honestly after using like 10 GE silicone tubes that all failed to hold over many times of draining tank, I was so fed up that simply did not care anymore. 5-6 years in and I dont even pay attention to it anymore.
When using adhesives on glass, mirrors and other smooth non breathing materials it's best to use dots or stripes. If not the glue won't be able to breath and will stay wet inside the circle and won't reach it's potential strength. Awesome tank though!
high hopes but I have a strong feeling that glue won't hold for very long and will release again. , while theres no fish in there you could run some GH ph down and kill those scuds and make those plants nice and green :)
STANDING IN the tank??? Wow! Please tell me how the bottom glass didn't break! It's not flat on the stand is it? I was shocked to see you inside that thing!
