Always thought this Sanctuary Doctrine was hard to wrap my head around especially after reading the text which says "As far as the East is groom the West so far has He removed our transgression.Then the Bible says I cast your sins into the depths of the sea and remember them no more.
JESUS said there will be a judgement to all people, Once the judgement ends, then our sins can be casted out, but untill then , they remaind in the Santuary, the Sanctuary needs cleansing, Study the yomki pur judgement of the israelites and you will learn what is going on in heaven.

Adventism has a unique version of salvation of Course that confuses even Adventists! First, salvation is a Future event. In the intrim the Adventist is on Probation according to there self proclaimed Prophet Ellen G white. One unconfessed sin removes grace from the Adventist. The adventist then becomes "unsaved". This state of lost salvation continues until that particular sin Is repented of. If the Adventist dies before repentance all his past sins that were forgiven are now remembered by the living Christ and held against the sevy memeber..... This is perhaps why Adventists struggle to proclaim the Gospel because it is so damn complicated!

Dr. Desmond Ford is one of the most faithful and devoted Christians I have been listening to and I don't think that he regretted standing up for the idea of 'Investigative Judgment' because it is nonsense and NOT biblical and it will contradict our salvation.
Justification is not sanctification. "Justify" means to declare righteous. "Sanctify" means to make righteous. Sanctification is the fruit of justification, but they are distinct.
Ellen White denied the assurance of the gospel by teaching that when a person’s name comes up in the investigative judgment, even one unconfessed sin will prevent the individual from being saved.
The Priest and High Priest of the Sanctuary had to have all sins forgiven prior to coming before God in the Old Testament. If he had just one unforgiven sin, God would kill him. This was an example of how God would treat the sins of the people, from those days to the present.
The law is no longer the schoolmaster of the believer but is made for the unbeliever, the unrighteous. Our righteousness is a free gift independent of laws and works of laws. @@Ronriko1 The Investigative process is something our own feeble judgement of fairness believes to be a good thing in our judicial system. They're at least 6 or more examples in the Bible of this played out before God acts. The problem I think people have is the responsibility that is associated with it (The over coming of sin) And if that solution was presented and people actually had real victory vs. every flavor of a facsimile or excuses or just plain I can't do this and remain sane, the IJ would be more accepted.

The IJ is found fundamentally throughout Scripture as a rule and principal whenever God does His thing, when you see the examples, it becomes unmistakable. And you don't need to be a PHD or smart to see it, it is so there.
Brother Ford rejected the investigative judgement because the SDA church has never taught the truth about it and the way they teach it does seem contrary to the Gospel. But the truth about the investigative judgement is not in the slightest bit in conflict with the Everlasting Gospel. Sadly, brother Ford did not understand the truth about the gospel either. If one understands the truth about the Gospel it is not hard to find the truth about the investigative judgement. That the investigative judgement is a biblical doctrine is obvious to any honest student of the Bible. Simply search the word judgement and understand that He comes with His reward in His hand, and that at His second coming some are resurrected and others are not, and the inevitable conclusion is that there is a pre-advent judgement of the living and the dead.

I was an SDA from birth, and even in my youth I could see that it was not correct. SDAs teach stupidity about the pre-Advent judgment, because they are willful blind leaders of the blind. That fact does not in any way overcome another obvious fact, which is that the Bible is very clear that there is a judgment prior to the coming of the Father and the Son. Yes, Christ's work of redemption was done when he rose and subsequently sat down at the right hand of his Father. But judgment still had to be made regarding how men have handled the gift given to them. And they will be rewarded according to how they have handled that, as clearly demonstrated in John chapter 3 verses 19, 20 and 21. Judgment is being made with regard to whether men turn away from the light or walk towards it, and they will be rewarded accordingly. Those who simply dismiss a pre-Advent judgment are throwing the baby out with the bathwater. And this is willful foolishness. The Bible clearly describes a judgment and clearly states that God comes with his reward in his hand. This means things are done prior to his coming with his son at his right hand. Keep studying to show thyself approved.

The Everlasting Gospel and the Judgement go hand in hand. Both are mentioned together in Rev.14:6,7. We can’t just throw out the part we don’t like because it doesn’t suit our whims. Jesus has to judge all the cases of mankind so that when He comes His “reward is with Him”. There has to be a judgment to determine the reward, just like in any civil court. “..the judgment was set and the books were opened.” Dan.7:10. So whether you like it or not the Truth is the Truth. We can’t treat the Bible like a buffet and pick and choose what we like. We must be sympathizing with our Heavenly High Priest as He is finishing up this work. It is good news that rewards of the righteous and wicked will be just.

I haven't understood your view of EGW. If her visions and writings are not worthy to be taken for doctrine then how are they trustworthy for devotional help and Christian living? If God showed her visions why would that not be authoritative on subjects like the investigative judgment?

The verse on judgement you mentioned: Matthew 5:18- I agree that our salvation are linked to obeying God, and His laws. However if you are truly a believer you will obey God's instructions...but you are not made righteous or justified by it. I think the problem lies in some people thinking they are saved and are not. If will be evident in our fruits (obeying God's word). An example, love is one of the fruits in Galatians. If you love God, you will keep His commandments-my summary (instructions). John 14:15 Another problem here is that people confuse obeying God with word with Works. Works are your good deeds (Ephesians 2:10) to show others that we are set apart, ambassadors for the Kingdom of Heaven, the salt & light of the world, all found in Matthew. People confuse works (good deeds) with obeying God (salvation). In the old covenant people had to work for their salvation . Hebrews 10:8 - Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; In the new covenant, THIS IS WHY JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS, we are not working for our salvation, through sacrifices and offerings (Ephesians 2:8) (1 Samuel 15:22)...the blood of Jesus made us in right standing with God. HOWEVER, 2 Corinthians 5:10, confirms that Believers will not be 'judged' for their salvation...Did you see the word GOOD in this verse? Yes that is referring to the TRUE BELIEVERS works. Bad will be for the unbelievers...this is why the verse says ALL. Psalm 62:12 & Hebrews 9:27-28 confirms this. Revelation 2:11-12 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. One of the biggest problems here is that many people think they are saved, but are not. ... They said a prayer and thought they were saved. It is the finished work of Christ on the Cross where sinners have forgiveness, but not so in Adventism. A *second phase* atonement cannot allow the blood of Jesus on the cross to completely forgive sin. In Adventism this occurs later (after 1844) and in the heavenly sanctuary. Greetings , i would be very much interested in your opinion, and the opinion of others regarding this fresh interpretation of Daniel 8:13-14: "Unto 2300 years and the perpetual Sabbath will return to the Law of the Sanctuary the Christian Church." Three key words in Daniel 8:13-14 are: KODESH is first used in Gen 2:3 for the Sabbath, so it means seventh day Sabbath. TAWMEED means perpetual, Joseph Bates wrote a book called “Perpetual Sabbath.” TSADAQ means to restore to the the Law. New Testament Sanctuary is the Christian Church, cleansed by the restoration of the Biblical Decalogue. Hiriam Edson's vision in the cornfield was about the Sabbath, see Mathew ch 12 where Jesus in the cornfield is master of the Sabbath, this was also confirmed by Ellen White's vision of the Ten Commandments with the Sabbath underlined. Uniqueness of S.D.A. Sabbath theology is the synthesis of Daniel 13-14 and Leviticus ch 16:5. Is it possible that typology of Leviticus 16:5 represents Esau, Jacob, and Isaac? and by further extension represents Christians and Jews, that is Esau is the goat for the Lord, Jacob is the scapegoat, and Isaac the ram, and all three represent the One Messiah Jehosha in the triune atoning sacrifice for our sins. More Amazing Adventist claims….The concept of"Investigative Judgement”refers to the idea that the confessed sins of believers are forgiven but not blotted out until an"investigative judgement” occurs and the ruling declared favourable. This occurs after someone comes to faith, but before the second coming. The blotting out of sins occurs by sins being placed on Satan as the scapegoat.
The pre-advent judgment is well addressed in God's Word and the following texts reveal the fact: Acts 17:31; Acts 24:25; Rev.14:7 & 14; I Pet.4:17; Dan.7:9-10; Rev.3:5; Acts 3:19; Matt.11:21-24; II Cor.5:10. And from the book Great Controversy pg.488 we find this inspired statement: "The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment should be clearly understood by the people of God. All need a knowledge for themselves of the position and work of their great High Priest. Otherwise it will be impossible for them to exercise the faith which is essential at this time or to occupy the position which God designs them to fill. Type Must meet antitype; the heavenly sanctuary was the antitype of which the earthly was a pattern and all its services. Hebrews and the spirit of prophecy confirm the heavenly followed the same as the type in the earthly. Hebrews 6:19, 20; 9:12 The Jews had refused to seek Him in the only way whereby He could be found, through the ministration in the sanctuary in heaven. Therefore they found no communion with God. To them the door was shut. They had no knowledge of Christ as the true sacrifice and the only mediator before God; hence they could not receive the benefits of His mediation. The condition of the unbelieving Jews illustrates the condition of the careless and unbelieving among professed Christians, who are willingly ignorant of the work of our merciful High Priest. In the typical service, when the high priest entered the most holy place, all Israel were required to gather about the sanctuary and in the most solemn manner humble their souls before God, that they might receive the pardon of their sins and not be cut off from the congregation. How much more essential in this antitypical Day of Atonement that we understand the work of our High Priest and know what duties are required of us.

(John 5:24) And then, what He said to the terrorist on the cross: "Truly I tell you today you will be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43) All of this sounds to me like present tense: "is not condemned" - "has eternal life" - the only time He refers to the future is to the terrorist: "you will be with me". All of this points to something that happens at the moment I believe, when I receive, when I accept. Christ Himself makes no mention anywhere in the Gospels - nor does anyone else - of a work He would perform some time in the future where our acceptance into salvation would hang in a balance until the rap of a celestial gavel indicates when a soul is saved or lost, unbeknownst to that sinner. I was a life-long Adventist and that is how I believed. For years, the message of hopelessness so conflicted with the Gospel that I finally stepped away: cognitive dissonance will continue just so long until you either go mad or stop the noise. And then, a few years back, I happened upon Des' videos. The hope these gave me was breathtaking: it wasn't up to me, it wasn't about "do-do-do", because my doings were ridiculously pathetic, even at the best of times. It was done. Done by the only Man who could ever do it right, because He was the God-Man. A Man who was crucified because He was sinless, and organised religion couldn't deal with that, but more importantly, we humans couldn't deal with it. We all nailed Him to the cross. Now, as I see how pathetic my attempts are at keeping the Sabbath / loving my fellow-man / being kind-forgiving-honest / pretty much keeping the Law in general, good job doing it properly has nothing with my salvation. Looking at Him does. Des pointed this out to me in these videos, and examination of the Scripture fully substantiates what he says. And no-one can ever take that hope away from me, ever again!
Well said, Why do works? Mean anything. Surely it is how we believe and try to because we have human nature that it’s impossible to be Christ like. I’m an Adventist but not really a practising one because I am physically disabled that if by works I can only have a chance of being able to get to Heaven,then I would be doomed. Jesus died for me, he said on the Cross that IT IS FINISHED.... so where does the work vs faith come into it.
I was told in the SDA Church that Jesus was born with Sin😳😳... the Son of God born with Sin?? Mary s bloodline had the sins of David but I can’t swallow the teachings that Jesus had sin in Him... Then I got told Michael is Jesus and I don’t believe the Son of God is just an Archangel. It's instructive to note that this weird doctrine is unique with the Adventists among all other Christian groups and was never formulated until 1844. Why is that? Our Lord Jesus Christ died once and for all and having completed His great work of atonement for our sins and salvation, He took His seat at God's right hand until the final judgement. That's it! It's very plain to see. The High Priest makes atonement First in the Most Holy. Then, secondly, he goes to the Holy Place (to make atonement on the altar of incense and finishes the duty in the camp to send away the scapegoat into the wilderness. This IS the Bible, God's Word. Now compare with what Ellen G White says in, The Great Controversy. She says Jesus, as The High Priest went First into the Holy Place to make ministration (atonement), Then second, went into the Most Holy Place in 1844 to cleanse the sanctuary ( sprinkle the blood on the Mercy Seat). God has NEVER sent just one Prophet to teach us anything. He ALWAYS sends multiple prophets for confirmation and he sends them in different generations. Believing in Ellen White is not at all consistent with the Holy Spirit who ALWAYS sends confirmations to multiple people through His Holy Spirit. Jesus also tells us that we do not need any man to understand the Bible after the Holy Spirit is given. Please read your Bible alone and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you and you will hear Truth. There were multiple confirmations from many about her. Also in the Old Testament there were times when there were very few prophets. Elisha for instance.

She teaches that we are still under the Mosaic Judaic Covenant rather than the New Covenant of Jesus and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Those are not biblical. The Catholic Church also teaches the Mosaic covenant. The SDAs adopt the Catholic doctrine and just change the day from Sunday to Saturday. The Jews under Moses did not worship on Saturdays. They observed Sabbath each month beginning on the first day of the observation of the New Moon (which is why there were night watchmen) she then every 7th day thereafter until the waning of the Moon again. If you want to rest on God's Sabbath you must observe HIS Sabbath days which are the first day of the New Moon and every 7th day after that.

So many examples of God, Jesus "investigating" before judging throughout the entire Bible. However if there was no Investigative Judgement, then when Jesus returns how does He know who to resurrect and who not to? This has to be pre-determined prior to his journey to Earth. You know what the REAL reason to dismiss this doctrine? Because no one seems to have the experience or tools to have a over-coming faith that many talk about but not experience. Read Jone and Waggoner, over and over and over. The gospel formula is there. Once experienced, Christ in you, the judgement is not an issue. You'll be overcoming and your motives will be directed towards God's vindication such as Moses had with God. When you thin 144,000, think the experience of Moses. It can be done. It will be done. White, and others, reinterpreted the prophecy. They concluded that instead of Christ returning to Earth, something else significant had occurred on that date. they made a mistake but instead of acknowledging error they say that something else happened so they weren't actually wrong. No one can prove or disprove them. But I think the important thing is to seek God and his commandments and teachings rather than the philosophy and calculations of men. Good people can make mistakes Ellen was definitely a pillar of advent movement and one can safely follow a good bit of her teachings, but blind following is not what God wants but faith in what he reveals to us.
I heard Des many many years ago when his accent was thicker. I remember being very impressed. It’s really unfortunate all that happened. However, I think there are other explanations. We know the throne of God is on wheels and therefore mobile. It is Biblical that Jesus went to the holy place when he ascended into heaven to be with the father in the Holy place (not the most holy) to later go to most holy following the atonement process. I don’t think Des realized this other understanding. About investigative judgement being unloving and legalistic, I read the chapter in GC. There are text that Imply works is required for salvation and there are text that says it through Jesus. When you look at the whole thing knowing God is love, it mirrors what the Bible says. The Bible has text that sounds like salvation by works and others that say salvation by grace. In both cases, you have to reconcile. For me I don’t see that IJ makes a tyrannical God. I see what the law requires, but thank God we have Jesus as an intercessor. This is not perfectionism, this is good news.

The law was added 430 years after Abraham. The covenant ten commandments was a contract between Israel and God ALONE! Gentile nations had no covenant law then or now! That law , that was Added, had a beginning and an end. Does any one know when that law ended?

Renewed and regenerated by the Spirit of the Living God, but we do want to please our God All of his commandments are for our good and for our blessings. You know what the major problem is with the opposition to this doctrine is not the doctrine itself but the Gospel attached. Jones and Waggoner did not seem to have an issue with the IJ and for good reason. They taught the Power of the Word in the Christian experience which gives the believer power to live our Christ's life within and without. Dr Desmond Ford I know that being new to SDA has really made me see that they are living according to the Jewish Law instead of LIVING in the BEAUTIFUL TEACHINGS OF CHRIST. Why do they have so many legalistic rules ? Jesus was clear about legalism to the Pharisees yet I see it in the SDA Church. ELlen White, yes she wrote some things that are good but investigative judgement? I think not. Jesus shows through His own personality how LOVE is what we have to find and apply. @@BibleTruthsAndBeyond Ah come on. We all know that suddenly having knowledge of some supposed "investigative judgement" beginning to go on in 1844 changes nothing in the life of a believer. Adventists rarely think about this concept and if they do, they are often confused. Certainly in their day by day life, the knowledge of some invisible event now going on for the last 180 years has no relevance to their Christian walk. Adventists struggle with sin just like everybody else. They aren't more holy than others because of the investigative judgement.

Any investigative judgement would have to focus on those people who never accepted the sacrifice of Christ, surely, and not on the people whose sins were washed ‘as white as snow’ on accepting Christ. Otherwise everything is back to a works-based salvation. Right? HOWEVER, it is entirely possible that all people are ‘processed’ via a Heavenly Court for the sake of ‘fairness’ and the righteous would automatically be absolved of any sin during that legal process. Like a ‘formality’. What I can’t understand is, at what stage do people have to actually personally have to stand before the Judgement. When does that happen?

@@acertainsound interesting point - the practices of the Levitical priesthood are a striking shadow of Christs ministry in the Heavenly sanctuary (otherwise why would Christ instruct Moses to institute them)? I often wonder what the Old Testament shadows (packed with meaning) might look like if modern theological academia got the chance to reshape them…many struggle so they relegate the inspired writings of both Moses and Paul to “old school” thinking - but the means and ultimate process of salvation is the same in the old and New Testaments. So, it must also be constantly kept in mind that the atonement is not the cause but the consequence of God’s love for guilty men [John 3:16; Romans 3:24-25; Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 1:9; 4:9]. Jesus in the Investigative judgement is judging the believer now according to Adventists. EGW teaches this. Adventists must comply with her teaching. Ellen White taught that if even one unconfessed sin was found in the heavenly record books, the professing Christian’s name would be blotted out from the Book of Life and their eternal salvation would be forfeited. So this is the burden Adventist carry around, Grace only works till it doesnt. One has to ask how many Adventist`s at sabbath school have unconfessed sin and thus are part of the great Adventist unsaved!
The saints will execute the fair judgment of God under the leadership of Christ during this thousand years. That day or hour is described as a time of heat and drought and great harvest. At the same time, it is a day for the wicked to be revealed, to be killed by the word of truth and destroyed by the brightness of that day. But the people of the holy ones will stand and endure. They will recognize this day and they will be purified like silver and tested like gold.

This state of lost salvation continues until that particular sin Is repented of.

Justification is sanctification, which Jesus completed on the cross by His foreknowing the righteous and will realize at His 2nd coming.

They're at least 6 or more examples in the Bible of this played out before God acts. The problem I think people have is the responsibility that is associated with it (The over coming of sin) And if that solution was presented and people actually had real victory vs. every flavor of a facsimile or excuses or just plain I can't do this and remain sane, the IJ would be more accepted.

The IJ is found fundamentally throughout Scripture as a rule and principal whenever God does His thing, when you see the examples, it becomes unmistakable. And you don't need to be a PHD or smart to see it, it is so there.
Brother Ford rejected the investigative judgement because the SDA church has never taught the truth about it and the way they teach it does seem contrary to the Gospel. But the truth about the investigative judgement is not in the slightest bit in conflict with the Everlasting Gospel. Sadly, brother Ford did not understand the truth about the gospel either. If one understands the truth about the Gospel it is not hard to find the truth about the investigative judgement. That the investigative judgement is a biblical doctrine is obvious to any honest student of the Bible. Simply search the word judgement and understand that He comes with His reward in His hand, and that at His second coming some are resurrected and others are not, and the inevitable conclusion is that there is a pre-advent judgement of the living and the dead.

I was an SDA from birth, and even in my youth I could see that it was not correct. SDAs teach stupidity about the pre-Advent judgment, because they are willful blind leaders of the blind. That fact does not in any way overcome another obvious fact, which is that the Bible is very clear that there is a judgment prior to the coming of the Father and the Son. Yes, Christ's work of redemption was done when he rose and subsequently sat down at the right hand of his Father. But judgment still had to be made regarding how men have handled the gift given to them. And they will be rewarded according to how they have handled that, as clearly demonstrated in John chapter 3 verses 19, 20 and 21. Judgment is being made with regard to whether men turn away from the light or walk towards it, and they will be rewarded accordingly. Those who simply dismiss a pre-Advent judgment are throwing the baby out with the bathwater. And this is willful foolishness. The Bible clearly describes a judgment and clearly states that God comes with his reward in his hand. This means things are done prior to his coming with his son at his right hand. Keep studying to show thyself approved.

The Everlasting Gospel and the Judgement go hand in hand. Both are mentioned together in Rev.14:6,7. We can’t just throw out the part we don’t like because it doesn’t suit our whims. Jesus has to judge all the cases of mankind so that when He comes His “reward is with Him”. There has to be a judgment to determine the reward, just like in any civil court. “..the judgment was set and the books were opened.” Dan.7:10. So whether you like it or not the Truth is the Truth. We can’t treat the Bible like a buffet and pick and choose what we like. We must be sympathizing with our Heavenly High Priest as He is finishing up this work. It is good news that rewards of the righteous and wicked will be just.

Dr. Ford, I always admired and appreciated you. Thank you for your ministry. I have never heard a clear gospel message from any SDA preachers, never. Here's my question. I haven't understood your view of EGW. If her visions and writings are not worthy to be taken for doctrine then how are they trustworthy for devotional help and Christian living? If God showed her visions why would that not be authoritative on subjects like the investigative judgment?

Do you see Believers are not condemned for their sins. Because the Lord Jesus has made us righteous with the Father when He died on the cross. Adventism believes Jesus is of the priesthood of sinful men (Levitical) who must ask for forgiveness before administering their role. Adventism makes Jesus a sinful man and sinful priest.
The Investigative Judgement as stated in Belief #28 in the 28 Beliefs book (page 351) states the Investigative Judgment is the *second and last phase of Jesus atonement.* The bible nowhere describes the atonement of Jesus as having two phases. Jesus declared in John 19:30 "It is finished" and 1 John 1:7 says "the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin."
It is the finished work of Christ on the Cross where sinners have forgiveness, but not so in Adventism.
A *second phase* atonement cannot allow the blood of Jesus on the cross to completely forgive sin. In Adventism this occurs later (after 1844) and in the heavenly sanctuary. This is why Ellen White uttered the blasphemous statement that *the blood of Christ on the cross does not cancel out sin* :
“The blood of Christ, while it was to release the repentant sinner from the condemnation of the law, *was not to cancel the sin;* it would stand on the record in the sanctuary until the final atonement; so in the type the blood of the sin-offering removed the sin from the penitent. Adventism and the heavenly Sanctuary admits sins into heaven which alone is blasphemous. Second the bible declares that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin (Heb. 9:22), but in false Adventism there is forgiveness of sin in the heavenly sanctuary without the shedding of blood as the Ellen White quote above demonstrates.
In summary, Jesus is not a sinful Levitical Priest who must ask for forgiveness of sins. Jesus is not a Levitical priest, he is a priest of the order of Melchizedek. God's heaven does not admit sin into His kingdom. The blood of Christ does grant forgiveness to sinners and there is no two phased atonement. Three key words in Daniel 8:13-14 are:
KODESH is first used in Gen 2:3 for the Sabbath, so it means seventh day Sabbath.
TAWMEED means perpetual, Joseph Bates wrote a book called “Perpetual Sabbath.”
TSADAQ means to restore to the the Law.
New Testament Sanctuary is the Christian Church, cleansed by the restoration of the Biblical Decalogue.
Hiriam Edson's vision in the cornfield was about the Sabbath, see Mathew ch 12 where Jesus in the cornfield is master of the Sabbath, this was also confirmed by Ellen White's vision of the Ten Commandments with the Sabbath underlined.
Uniqueness of S.D.A. Sabbath theology is the synthesis of Daniel 13-14 and Leviticus ch 16:5.

And then, what He said to the terrorist on the cross:
"Truly I tell you today you will be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43)
All of this sounds to me like present tense: "is not condemned" - "has eternal life" - the only time He refers to the future is to the terrorist: "you will be with me". All of this points to something that happens at the moment I believe, when I receive, when I accept.
Christ Himself makes no mention anywhere in the Gospels - nor does anyone else - of a work He would perform some time in the future where our acceptance into salvation would hang in a balance until the rap of a celestial gavel indicates when a soul is saved or lost, unbeknownst to that sinner.
I was a life-long Adventist and that is how I believed. For years, the message of hopelessness so conflicted with the Gospel that I finally stepped away: cognitive dissonance will continue just so long until you either go mad or stop the noise.
And then, a few years back, I happened upon Des' videos. The hope these gave me was breathtaking: it wasn't up to me, it wasn't about "do-do-do", because my doings were ridiculously pathetic, even at the best of times.
It was done.
Done by the only Man who could ever do it right, because He was the God-Man. A Man who was crucified because He was sinless, and organised religion couldn't deal with that, but more importantly, we humans couldn't deal with it. We all nailed Him to the cross.
Now, as I see how pathetic my attempts are at keeping the Sabbath / loving my fellow-man / being kind-forgiving-honest / pretty much keeping the Law in general, good job doing it properly has nothing with my salvation.

It's instructive to note that this weird doctrine is unique with the Adventists among all other Christian groups and was never formulated until 1844. Why is that? Our Lord Jesus Christ died once and for all and having completed His great work of atonement for our sins and salvation, He took His seat at God's right hand until the final judgement. That's it! Heraldohispano, hope you get this. Please read and study thoroughly Leviticus 16. The High Priest goes straight to the Most Holy Place first, to sprinkle the blood on the Mercy Seat. It's very plain to see. The High Priest makes atonement First in the Most Holy. Then, secondly, he goes to the Holy Place (to make atonement on the altar of incense and finishes the duty in the camp to send away the scapegoat into the wilderness. This IS the Bible, God's Word. Now compare with what Ellen G White says in, The Great Controversy. She says Jesus, as The High Priest went First into the Holy Place to make ministration (atonement), Then second, went into the Most Holy Place in 1844 to cleanse the sanctuary ( sprinkle the blood on the Mercy Seat). Her interpretation is the opposite of Leviticus 16. Therefore, to believe what she says, instead of Leviticus 16 is to believe in man's word over/above God's Word

God has NEVER sent just one Prophet to teach us anything. He ALWAYS sends multiple prophets for confirmation and he sends them in different generations. Believing in Ellen White is not at all consistent with the Holy Spirit who ALWAYS sends confirmations to multiple people through His Holy Spirit. Jesus also tells us that we do not need any man to understand the Bible after the Holy Spirit is given. Please read your Bible alone and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you and you will hear Truth. Prayers for all those who are deceived by false prophets of whom we are warned.
There were multiple confirmations from many about her. Also in the Old Testament there were times when there were very few prophets. Elisha for instance.

@@samuelwilliams1559 no, they're not. She teaches the unbiblical doctrine of the Investigative Judgement. She teaches that we are still under the Mosaic Judaic Covenant rather than the New Covenant of Jesus and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Those are not biblical. The Catholic Church also teaches the Mosaic covenant. The SDAs adopt the Catholic doctrine and just change the day from Sunday to Saturday. The Jews under Moses did not worship on Saturdays. They observed Sabbath each month beginning on the first day of the observation of the New Moon (which is why there were night watchmen) she then every 7th day thereafter until the waning of the Moon again. If you want to rest on God's Sabbath you must observe HIS Sabbath days which are the first day of the New Moon and every 7th day after that.

So many examples of God, Jesus "investigating" before judging throughout the entire Bible. However if there was no Investigative Judgement, then when Jesus returns how does He know who to resurrect and who not to? This has to be pre-determined prior to his journey to Earth. Good people can make mistakes Ellen was definitely a pillar of advent movement and one can safely follow a good bit of her teachings, but blind following is not what God wants but faith in what he reveals to us.
I heard Des many many years ago when his accent was thicker. I remember being very impressed. It’s really unfortunate all that happened. However, I think there are other explanations. We know the throne of God is on wheels and therefore mobile. It is Biblical that Jesus went to the holy place when he ascended into heaven to be with the father in the Holy place (not the most holy) to later go to most holy following the atonement process. I don’t think Des realized this other understanding.
About investigative judgement being unloving and legalistic, I read the chapter in GC. There are text that Imply works is required for salvation and there are text that says it through Jesus. When you look at the whole thing knowing God is love, it mirrors what the Bible says. The Bible has text that sounds like salvation by works and others that say salvation by grace. In both cases, you have to reconcile. For me I don’t see that IJ makes a tyrannical God. I see what the law requires, but thank God we have Jesus as an intercessor. This is not perfectionism, this is good news.

What's said in Phil. Is that his perfection has not been reach and is a goal of being CHRIST like. It has nothing to do with confidence. Adventists rarely think about this concept and if they do, they are often confused. Certainly in their day by day life, the knowledge of some invisible event now going on for the last 180 years has no relevance to their Christian walk. Adventists struggle with sin just like everybody else. They aren't more holy than others because of the investigative judgement.
I still remember one of the jokes he told first introducing himself at PUC week of prayer. A man checks into the hospital in Australia and the nurse asks him "Did you come here today (to die)" and the man says "No, I'm not that sick." (He wrote the word "today" on the board and pointed to it while he said it)

Now judgement is good news to the believer of Christ. Judgement is happening first to vindicate God of His claims that is a just and merciful God before the unfallen worlds , the unfallen angels , the accuser devil and his fallen angels and finally to all humans saved and unsaved.

And Hebrews 8 verse 1,2, 5 shows how Christ is our high Priest ministering in heavenly sanctuary.
In chapter 9 verse 12 shows how Christ entered into the Holy place when He ascended into heaven where there is the candle sticks and show bread and alter if incense, This is explained in chapter 9 from verse 1 to 10.
So at some point Our High Priest will move to the Most holy place in the sanctuary in heaven to cleanse the sanctuary like it's explained in Daniel 8 verse 13 and 14 by Gabriel to Daniel. And is further explained that cleansing or purifying of the heavenly sanctuary will be done by the blood of The Lamb Our Saviour, while at the same time being Our High Priest and Judge....see hebrews 9 from verse 22,24,.
Verse 26 and 27 clearly explains how Christ now once in the End of the world has He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself and as He puts away sins it's judgement time starting with the dead proffesed followers of Christ later move to living each vindicate and their sins put away by His blood....that's the investigative judgement. Verse 28 tells us that Christ bore the sins of many, and unto them that wait for Him, Shall appear to them with no sin and they shall receive salvation which they have been trusting on Jesus by faith, Romans 10 verse 10.
Hebrews 10 is the best in showing how Our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ will come in the human nature and obey the will of The Father. For obedience out of love is what God wants Christ is Our example and we live by Him..to obey the Father's will.
Verse 19 having therefore brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest ( Most holy place ) by the blood of Jesus...let's follow Christ our Lord there and have our sins put away and have them remembered no more..Hebrews 10 verse 16.

Those who claim not to be under law and also to be under the investigative Judgement are taking on the double speak of Adventism.
Those who teach that you can be a hypocrite and go to heaven forget the law is about love.
Any investigative judgement would have to focus on those people who never accepted the sacrifice of Christ, surely, and not on the people whose sins were washed ‘as white as snow’ on accepting Christ. Otherwise everything is back to a works-based salvation. Right? HOWEVER, it is entirely possible that all people are ‘processed’ via a Heavenly Court for the sake of ‘fairness’ and the righteous would automatically be absolved of any sin during that legal process. Like a ‘formality’. What I can’t understand is, at what stage do people have to actually personally have to stand before the Judgement. When does that happen?

The pivotal fact is - Paul said regarding Jesus being our High Priest that if he were on earth, He COULD NOT be our priest. THIS MEANS JESUS COULD NOT BE OUR PRIEST AT THE SAME TIME AS WHEN HE WAS OUR SACRIFICE ON EARTH. The role of High Priest had to come AFTER His resurrection and ascension to heaven, because as we have read from Hebrews above, Jesus was to be a "MINISTER OF THE SANCTUARY" in heaven, "OF THE TRUE TABERNACLE, WHICH THE LORD PITCHED, AND NOT MAN." So, Jesus was to become our High Priest AFTER His sacrifice and return to heaven. Why and to do what? To fulfil the “shadow” and “type” AS GIVEN IN THE OLD COVENANT - to make atonement for us.
‘Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also MAKETH INTERCESSION [G1793] FOR US.’ Rom. 8:34
Why would Christ be making intercessions anymore if the entire ATONEMENT PROCESS was FINISHED at the cross? Isn’t the work of intercession not part of Christ’s work to save us?

Christ entered into the heavenly sanctuary, the TRUE tabernacle of which the earthly was a copy [Ex 25:8,9], there to fulfil the role of High Priest, of which the earthly priest was a “type” of Christ mediating for the people [TO MAKE ATONEMENT] for them and their sins [with blood.] *THIS ROLE CHRIST COULD NOT FULFIL WHILE ON EARTH. HIS ROLE ON EARTH WAS THE ROLE OF “OFFERING” AND “SACRIFICE”. Only [AFTER] THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED was Christ then able to become our Mediator [1 Timothy 2:5] and make atonement for our sins.
I am NOT saying that the sacrifice of Christ on the cross was not an atonement. The Bible clearly lays out that Calvary was the [BEGINNING] of the atonement. The offering of the spotless animal in the Old Testament “type” was the BEGINNING of the atonement. BUT IT WAS THE [PRIEST] WHO COMPLETED THAT ATONEMENT FOR SINNERS. Jesus dying on the cross was the beginning of His atoning work. Now He is in heaven as our High Priest FINISHING the atonement.
Look at what it says in the last verse of Hebrews 9:26 above. What does it mean where it says "IN THE END OF THE WORLD HATH HE APPEARED [TO PUT AWAY SIN]"? To “put away sin” means to “cleanse” to “make clean”, “reconciliation”, “purify”, “sanctify”, “restoration” - to ATONE, to make us “at-one-ment” with God.
Surly, now we can clearly understand and comprehend that the atonement did not finish at the cross, it BEGAN AT THE CROSS. And Jesus is now making final atonement for us in the heavenly sanctuary as our High Priest and Mediator before the Father. [1 Tim 2:5; Heb 8:6, 9:15, 12:24].
So, it must also be constantly kept in mind that the atonement is not the cause but the consequence of God’s love for guilty men [John 3:16; Romans 3:24-25; Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 1:9; 4:9].
The atonement may also be regarded as necessary, not in an absolute but in a relative sense, i.e., if man is to be saved, there is no other way than this which God has purposed and carried out [Exodus 34:7; Joshua 24:19; Psalm 5:4; 7:11; Nahum 1:2,6; Romans 3:5]. This is God’s plan, clearly revealed; and that is enough for us to know.
Excerpt from Easton’s Bible Dictionary 1897: Atonement does not occur in the Authorized Version of the New Testament except in Rom. 5:11, where in the Revised Version the word “reconciliation” is used. In the Old Testament it is of frequent occurrence. The meaning of the word is simply at-one-ment, i.e., the state of being one or being reconciled, so that atonement is reconciliation. Adventists deny the cross. It was insufficient to cancel the debt against us, therefore the first covenant remains. The sacrifice was made but atonement is incomplete.
