Master rule 4 has always been crazy to me since the supposed point was to hit special summoning, especially the rampaging threats of Zoodiac and pendulum, and ultimately it did nothing to the meta except ruin most rogue contenders because the main problems were basically left untouched. On top of that, it brought us a new form of summoning that proved to be infinitely worse, even after Master Rule 5 fixed the mistakes brought in by MR 4

As someone who has practically one tricked trickstar for almost 6 years, game 2 had me screaming at Alex cause it was so winnable and not even for the reason he said
Let this say something about Trickstars. They were still making at least top finishes up until the pandemic started, and Aoi/Blue Angel was the first event character for the Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains world in Duel Links. That was a position usually saved for rivals.
Double iris giving you double battle damage and purple poison boosting your attack by 1200 made some hilarious otks that unfortunately was not really shown.
man, i love this deck so much. buying a booster of Pendulum Evolution and getting playsets of all the cards I needed for the deck was what got me into the game and seeing it be on and off playable since release has been great.
Two of my favorite decks ever. Pend Magician being my favorite deck of all time. Both these decks stick around for awhile so hope to see the future iterations of them in future episodes
You can tell someone's having trouble playing Trickstar when they think Maxx "C" is an issue instead of free damage. This early list isn't the best for summon spamming though, it's still missing important cards like Bloom, Festival and Corobane to force enough draws to burn people to death in 1 turn. Also that game 2 was thrown in several different ways. You pretty much always want to puke out Reinarnation and Lycoris ASAP unless the Droll Lock option is active.
I’ve developed a love for Trickstar from Master Duel and I can’t wait to see how this deck develops through the History of YuGiOh. Watching this, not having the Trickstar Link monsters yet really hurt the deck. Not to mention that the Droll and Reincarnation combo gets so nasty that Konami has to errata Droll and eventually limit Reincarnation.
Droll was never functionally errata'ed, it was only done so to clean up the amount of text. And Reincarnation was only limited in OCG and Master Duel, never in the TCG.
11:28 tbf they were unplayable except for magicians in fact there wasn’t a single somewhat viable pendulum deck after master rule4 except for magicians coming back to the meta game multiple times to the point that pendulums moved from being a summoning mechanic to a deck
What about endymion? That deck reached tier 2 I guess, at least till for some reason konami thought 3 servants and electrumite was so fcking broken just like sky striker or thunder dragon
@@diegorivera-nu5oq Endymion came into existence only a few months before the master rule revisions, and was unplayable prior to them, due to being hit on the banlist after having some showings in the meta. As a tier 2 deck. Which focused on spell counters more than being pendulums.
Trickstar is exactly why I had Trapeze magician in my extra deck during this time cz it stops all the little bits of effect damage that'd build up over time.
I’m not sure if I remember this correctly but couldn’t u FTK this format with lilybell and firewall? It was only really relevant in COTD format since the next sets and formats were better firewall combos.
Ending on Timestar Magician is much better than ending on Tornado Dragon. It searches for next turn and in combination with Time Pendulumgraph you get to pop two cards each turn without needing to pop anything you control.
I don't know what you plan on doing after you catch up to the present day, but you should take all the winning deck lists from History and turn it into a giant tournament to see some 2005 deck with broken spells face off modern decks.
I miss this version of pend magicians. Somehow they were a control deck but could still combo off if they had the right hand. But i do remember evenly matched being the bane of my existance lol
We've officially dawned upon the time in yugioh when I first started collecting/playing again. I remember the Pendulum Evolution pack being in stores and picking up those, and others. It took awhile for me to really get back into the game, but little did I know how powerful pendulum was at this time. I was just messing around with them, before regressing back to Goat and other earlier formats. Over the course of the next 3 years, I slowly acclimated myself to the other summoning mechanics, in chronological order, before I eventually started to play fully in 2021. I've considered the past 6 years my "training" period to catch-up to other players. It's just cool to see where we are in this series compared to my first re-introduction back into the game!
I love both of these decks alot Trickstar being among some of my all time favorite decks, so might Pends to be honest, so seeing these two brings back happy memories and nostalgia for me
22:50 You cannot just flip the continuous trap face-up and then also activate its effect later as a separate chain link on the same chain. You must either activate the effect simultaneously as you flip it up, or you can't activate the effect on that chain at all. That means Cimo's Twin Twisters pops Time and there is nothing MBT can do about it legally.
This was the era I came back in to yugioh, end of true Dracos, start of pendulum magician/trickstars. Good lord this was a tough format, almost gave up again.
I'm super excited to watch TOSS format, I don't think it might be everyone's favorite but speaking from someone who came back into the game from a multiple year hiatus around that time it was really cool. Especially the later half which saw alot of the non-meta choices start getting their own link support (which will be fun for jank) it also felt like an Era where not playing the best decks didn't necessarily mean you almost always lost outright. I could be looking back on it with rose tinted glasses but I really felt like it was somthing special.
During the time when Electrumite was out and pendulum was one of the best decks of that format, I played Trickstar at a regional. I beat every pendulum player I played against and got my first invite. My final match was against a pendulum player, and I won the die roll. In the last game I was able to droll lock him after he had searched with a master cerberus, and he tried to say that's not how it worked and tried to cheat me out of my win, called a judge over and ruled it in my favor and was able to win. I hated playing Trickstar, but it does hold a special spot as my first invite deck.
Pends are a special deck for me as it's the very first competitive deck i had. It was gifted to me that chirstmas with 3 Ghost Ogres, a copy of Omega and 3 Duelist Alliance! (Now when i got the deck Omega and Alliance was stupidly expensive! Now could i play it correctly? No and this taught me a valuable lesson, just because you have a great deck and good cards doesn't mean you will automatically win, you need skill. Sadly by the time i learnt to play it, that was when the slaughtering happened (The banlist when Max C was banned, if only i had bothered to learn the damn game instead of letting my ego get the better of me)
0:54 MBT's Deck: Pendulum Magician 4:50 Cimooo's Deck: Trickstar 11:08 Game 1 17:50 Game 2 18:29 how Lycoris works? 26:29 Game 3 28:24 the guy of the thumbnail appears
These videos make me really miss the early link days. Such a good time of my life that I miss too often. I wanna play modern but the current game state just doesn’t hit the same. Yeah Zoo was OP in 2017 but the gameplay was much more interactive.
I remember playing magician control at locals and going 2nd in the first week of playing the deck and then midway though the 2nd weeks turny was informed after round 2 that the magicians monster effects triggered when poped from the pendulum zones. So prior to that I had just been Winning with half of the effects of the deck.
My fav deck! I remember PEVO released 1 week before the Decode Starter Deck. So the deck was playable with previous Master Rule without any restrictions. Few played it cause Zoodiac wasn't hit yet on the list. It was really busted though.
i really don't get how trickstar was ever considered a god deck. light stage is insane and thats why it was so good as the engine to get a monster on field in orcust but on it's own the deck just doesn't do anything.
fun facts: gofus a dark level 5 tuner, lycoris a level 3 monster and reincarnation can be banish to special summon a trickstar, and belzee is a good card no idea why this list not using breaksword or crimsom blade
24:27 that double iris was summoned by harmo, its a 0/0 I think, and before that, the black fang summoned back a light spellcaster instead of a dark spellcaster
Ahh pend magician, my first combo deck :) honestly great memories discovering a new level of yugioh (before this I only played casually with 2010 or older goodstuff or like crappy Blackwings/Raidraptors)
Trickstar was the first "real" deck I learned the game with when I was getting into modern ygo, even though it was one of the worst decks to ever see meta play I'll always love it
22:40 missplay on MBT. Black Fang Magician can only summon back a DARK Spellcaster monster, not a LIGHT Spellcaster. Sadly Wisdom Eye Magician is LIGHT.
when we get to all the fire wall ftks they should each get 3 of them on a wheel and play them once in the match (switch deck after game 1 and 2) so then its just who fucks up less
Amazing, this was a cool episode i was waiting to see Trickstar here vuz i never understood what does that deck does. But, uhm.... the banlist? Wasnt at this point Zoos banned alongaide denglong?
I will never understand trickstar’s dominance. Was it just the fact that MR4 with dog water link monsters just made every other deck so bad..? Their “boss monsters” were SO lackluster compared to all of the synchros, xyzs, etc from year’s past. It even usually took multiple turns to summon them. The deck did have insane consistency as half the deck searched itself, but it never really went anywhere with their in-archetype cards. They didn’t really have any broken power cards aside from an unsearchable two card droll combo that could be played around by emptying your hand before you search/draw, so it very rarely happened. If you were lucky, you could scapegoat on your second turn into borreload or do the firewall OTK on like turn 5 with a ton of prior setup. The only interruptions it had really were hand traps, which was the only upside of the deck that searched so often it could play a million of them. The fact that this deck succeeded at the top of the meta for so long is indicative of just how poorly the link mechanic was implemented at the start. I’m a lot more okay with link summoning after MR5 and the card pool increased, but I still believe it was the most poorly designed as so so many cards were not designed with links in mind. Anything with a strong “field to the GY” effect became far too easy to activate, and of course we saw every half decent token generating card go from mid at best to banned. I appreciate the fact that decks that could generate large amounts of advantage with little ways to convert it like low level spam now have a win condition.
Why did Cimo not use instant fusion to make thousand eyes to absorb tornado dragon, link off into Decode Talker somehow, the use light stage to search candina and then normal it? Why pass on Gofu and tokens?
Ah yes....the beginning of synchro without tuners format! I'd argue that if anything ever came close to killing the game from a new mechanic, this was it. Like 90% of decks became unplayable for a while
I'm a wee bit disappointed that Cimoo dumped his material into Decode instead of going for the hype Beelze. Probably still wouldn't have gotten him the distance, but it would be very cool. Also, MBT really needs to stop drawing the 1 of Maxx C. I can't believe how often this is happening even when the card is at one

You get because of Maxx C, but it's ok for you to try to lock your opponent of having a hand to play .
Look! They are finally using the correct layout!
If the damage isn't lethal, it doesn't matter. Not for this point in Yu-Gi-Oh history, at least.
Love this episode. Zoodiac era was a chore to get through. Finally, back to some exciting stuff. Magician Pendulum is one of my favorite decks.
I’ve developed a love for Trickstar from Master Duel and I can’t wait to see how this deck develops through the History of YuGiOh. Watching this, not having the Trickstar Link monsters yet really hurt the deck. Not to mention that the Droll and Reincarnation combo gets so nasty that Konami has to errata Droll and eventually limit Reincarnation.
they had holly angel, just chose not to play it.
Droll was never functionally errata'ed, it was only done so to clean up the amount of text. And Reincarnation was only limited in OCG and Master Duel, never in the TCG.
Drolls effect was never changed.

tbf they were unplayable except for magicians
in fact there wasn’t a single somewhat viable pendulum deck after master rule4 except for magicians coming back to the meta game multiple times
to the point that pendulums moved from being a summoning mechanic to a deck
Yeah you can
funilly enough one of Cimoooooooo's deck profile videos actually showcased this
*otk
But yeah, it was very silly and got us the line "an otk with firewall dragon? No way!"
Ending on Timestar Magician is much better than ending on Tornado Dragon. It searches for next turn and in combination with Time Pendulumgraph you get to pop two cards each turn without needing to pop anything you control.
The Lillybell on the Lightstage art from 18:17 "Hey buddy."
Pend magican was my first meta deck I am going to love this
I don't know what you plan on doing after you catch up to the present day, but you should take all the winning deck lists from History and turn it into a giant tournament to see some 2005 deck with broken spells face off modern decks.
lithium does that, and thanks to his data we can safely say that: no, modern decks are just too broken
@@Hclody95 Though some Modern Decks can beat Modern Modern Broken Decks. VW VFD turbo vs Danger! Tear was a fun to watch for a coinflip match.
I miss this version of pend magicians. Somehow they were a control deck but could still combo off if they had the right hand. But i do remember evenly matched being the bane of my existance lol
PEND BEST DECK LETS GOOOOO
Game 1 11:06
Game 2 17:49
Game 3 26:28
Trickstar is my favorite archetype of all time. So excited to see the deck evolve over time.
wait why is zoo gone? no ban list break down?
I love both of these decks alot Trickstar being among some of my all time favorite decks, so might Pends to be honest, so seeing these two brings back happy memories and nostalgia for me
13:00
You can tell Joseph still has flashbacks from the Kuriboh incident (the Zorc episode in HoJ)
Sadly by the time i learnt to play it, that was when the slaughtering happened (The banlist when Max C was banned, if only i had bothered to learn the damn game instead of letting my ego get the better of me)
0:54 MBT's Deck: Pendulum Magician 4:50 Cimooo's Deck: Trickstar
11:08 Game 1
17:50 Game 2 18:29 how Lycoris works?
26:29 Game 3 28:24 the guy of the thumbnail appears
These videos make me really miss the early link days. Such a good time of my life that I miss too often. I wanna play modern but the current game state just doesn’t hit the same. Yeah Zoo was OP in 2017 but the gameplay was much more interactive.
I really enjoyed this episode.
How pwndilum interact with comtrol decks and droll also being a card...
I remember playing magician control at locals and going 2nd in the first week of playing the deck and then midway though the 2nd weeks turny was informed after round 2 that the magicians monster effects triggered when poped from the pendulum zones. So prior to that I had just been Winning with half of the effects of the deck.
After the fairy/fiend festival in master duel, a while back that single-handedly solidified my hatred for trickstars
My fav deck! I remember PEVO released 1 week before the Decode Starter Deck. So the deck was playable with previous Master Rule without any restrictions. Few played it cause Zoodiac wasn't hit yet on the list. It was really busted though.
i really don't get how trickstar was ever considered a god deck. light stage is insane and thats why it was so good as the engine to get a monster on field in orcust but on it's own the deck just doesn't do anything.
fun facts: gofus a dark level 5 tuner, lycoris a level 3 monster and reincarnation can be banish to special summon a trickstar, and belzee is a good card
no idea why this list not using breaksword or crimsom blade
24:27 that double iris was summoned by harmo, its a 0/0 I think, and before that, the black fang summoned back a light spellcaster instead of a dark spellcaster
Funny enough I actually remember the deck profile Jeff jones did for this and he said Wavering Eyes was the worst card in the deck lol
Pend Magician is such a cool deck, great episode as always.
We’re almost at spyral !!!!! I’m ready for DOUBLE HELIX
History of Yu-Gi-Oh! episode wins
Cimoooooooo: 71
MBT: 70
The joke has died just like Zoodiac
When this series ends you should start one called the history of yugioh worlds where you go through all the yugioh worlds formats.
Man now i wanna play pendulum magicians again
Pretty sure Omega was still at 3 at this point, I recall having to borrow a couple copies off a buddy for a regional in Gouki format
I played dino this format, i loved and miss this format a wee bit❤
when we get to all the fire wall ftks they should each get 3 of them on a wheel and play them once in the match (switch deck after game 1 and 2) so then its just who fucks up less
I was disappointed cimo's hand wasn't good enough to make Joe burn himself to death with Maxx c
Raigeki works on the trap pendulum graph trap protects from traps and spell protects for spells
rip no Firewall for the endless attack loop with Lilybell and Lycoris
Pendulum swinging sleeves.
MBT is on Pendulum perhaps? 🤔🤔🤔
Duel Links but tcg episode WOOOOO
Well, at least MR4 Pend makes sense for them now.
nice this was one of my favourite formats
I have some of the craziest master duel trickstar otk loops saved 😂
Did anyone else hear MBT saying tomato dragon when he was summoning tornado dragon.
So... Dark Room of Nightmare Trickstars...
Trickstar light stage does 200 for every burn damage not just once.
Cimo actually won game 2
There is no way the extra deck is too tight to fit 1 decode talker.
BEST DECK BABY LETS GOOOOOOOOO
Well guys we made it, Zoodiac is gone, surely the next formats will be cool and fair.
Omega was still at three during this point in time.
Why wasn't alex playing scapegoat?? Was that a later list or something?
STICK TO THE GAMEPLAN
Maxx C. Need I say more?
@@cameraredeye3115 yeah I forgor. Woops
Lilly bell is key to use in trickstars
Ah yes....the beginning of synchro without tuners format! I'd argue that if anything ever came close to killing the game from a new mechanic, this was it. Like 90% of decks became unplayable for a while
Cimoooo selling per usual
My favorite deck is trickstar
One of my friends favorite deck is pendulum magician
I am already loving this episode lol
How come the trickstar deck had no firewall? You could win with it by looping I remember people did that alot
I wanna see the Adderall deck soooooo bad
Pendiulum best deck lets go ahhahahaa. This is where Triff will be happy. :P
TGIF even if it's late ❤
Why was there a Code of Duelist intro to the Pendulum Magician video
Master rule 4 is when we got COTD.
