Making The Chair

- I started by drawing the outline of the chair on a thick piece of plywood. After the shape was complete, I traced the inner part of the mould on pieces of spruce beams I had left from another project. Excess wood from the pieces is trimmed on a band saw and all is then glued onto plywood. Slats I used are 2 mm thick and are made from oak and larch wood. first the boards were trimmed, then cut to width and then cut into thin pieces using a mini multi blade saw. Pieces are 2.3 mm thick and sanded to final 2 mm using a calibrating belt sander. all slats are glued together in a mold using a two component melamine glue. After the glue is cured , mold is disassembled, curved piece is trimmed and cut down the middle into two parts. As a back rest, I decided to use hemp rope woven between three turned oak pieces. Oak pieces are guided through holes on side pieces and held in place with walnut wedges. All wooden parts are sanded down to smooth surface and two coats of epoxy varnish are applied with light hand sanding between two coats.

Music:1812 overture by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
This man has more tools I’ve never even heard of in his shop and still uses his belt sander upside down like the rest of us.
I like it a lot. And the music. Two big thumbs up!
Thank you Olegh very much! :)
1812, what else?
you have some badass machines...
I thought the same. He needs to let us borrow them
I'm sure we could work something out😉
Beautifull chair, auto subscribe

I agree to Eric...!
Второй лайк за Чайковского поставил бы!))
Amazing how you can continually match your projects to the accompanying music. Great chair indeed.
D'ya think he matches the music to the piece, or the piece to the music?
Wonderful piece of art.
Again.
... without robotic arm this time.
Greetings from Romania 🇷🇴!
I've been re-positioning the robots to another part of the shop for a few weeks now , but you can expect them in some project in near future ;) Glad you like it! Greetings from Croatia!
11:40 ah, forgot the head rest - need version 2
That multi blade bandsaw is awesome!
the most beautiful job i have ever seen not using screws. bolts. dowels, beautiful beautiful beautiful and the music was mesmerizing - well done
Thank you so much Eli!
i´m sure this guy can bend time and space
The problem with using Tchaikovsky is that I just end up paying attention to the music (and especially the instrumentation)
(Which isn’t exactly what the score specifies in this recording, but most music historians doubt Tchaikovsky ever heard it performed with said instrumentation.)
What is your work time on the glue? Did you know that the clamps would fit so well on the inner curve of the chair when you designed it?
Its about 30 to 45 minutes, but on this summer temperature it is a bit less.. regarding the clamps, I eyeball it and it usually goes well..
Aren’t we going to talk about that glorious 1812 Overture?
It’s far too rare that people use the whole overture, which is a shame because there are a lot of gems in the less well-known sections.
That Lounger demands a room of it's own, with a spectacular view! Curious, what's the maximum weight limit on that lounger? It's a great piece of Art!!
Just had come back to watch this again and noticed this comment...
The only weak spot is going to be in two "dowels" which form the seat base. The weight is basically carried by the 4 ends which go through the frame. Not sure the diameter of them, but they are over 1/2" which should give the chair a dead load capacity of around 1600 lbs. Not likely to break under normal use...or even energetic use of two regular sized people. The deflection you see might be a bit unnerving, but just like a wooden bow - it is part of the material. It will move a lot without breaking (significantly different then solid wood where grain run out might cause it to splinter and crack...).
Provided that you are gluing them up properly, laminated wood is extremely strong, and considering the shop normally specializes in laminated structural beams and the like they are probably using the right adhesives and have the practice to apply it properly.
I really enjoy your videos guys! Always, innovative concepts, beautiful designs, and great craftsmanship. Thank you!
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it:D
Слишком много пальцев при таком количестве станков
I do not know English, so I will ask in two ways......1.How much did the glue harden?.......2.How much did the glue harden? thank
Wonderful... but.. it lacks something for the head, if only could lay it somewhere...
I'm learning a lot from your channel, it's great to see those epic industrial machines mixed up with simple jigs and handheld power tools.
I'm glad you watch my videos! Sometimes it' a bit overkill but I like them:D

This symphony is the perfect background for this piece, state of art!
Красивое кресло! Главное на него не садится..... Настолько тонкие основания, ещё, в самых напряжённых местах насверлили отверстий. Не будет работать!
Can we trade? I’ll give you the chair I’m sitting in and pay for S&H.

What kind of machinery is the one you use at 2:34, how it is called? I don't remember seeing one like this anywhere else! Same for 2:56!

What a machine park! Oldies but goldies! Great build, thanks for sharing. Makes we want to try bent lamination
Awesome! But unreal to repeat in my garage)
Hi lignum, (dont know your name) Can you tell me what is that machine 2:51 call?
Raudondvaris Raude I believe it’s a “multi rip saw” but an older version.

Logical-Sensory Introvert
Basically, this is a very over engineered version of the IKEA Poang chair. It's the same shape and done the same way with bent laminations providing springiness and strength. The frame is probably twice the thickness of the IKEA version and not joined with knock-down fasteners, but its a very well built IKEA chair you have there.
Looks like it is a very comfortable chair. Like all those cool toys...sorry tools in the shop. Have a great weekend..
When I assembled all the wood pieces i tried to sit in it without the rope.. I freaked out because after all that work the middle turned oak piece pressed against the lower back like hell.. But after the rope came on, it changed the whole story and I was surprised how comfortable it really is.. You can't feel the wood at all.. You too Robert, have a great weekend, and thank you for watching!
You have very interesting woodworking machiner. Love it. Great video and nice project.
Kullandığınız ağaç ne tür bir ağaç bilgi verirmisiniz
музыка немного напрягает ... немного не в тему
genuinely made my night watching this and all the commercial machinery you use. Amazing to see a professional shop.

Stayed for the music!!! LOL
Awesome job with both!
You have the coolest machineshop of whole youtube! Love your work!!
😃thank you Jan! I'm glad you like it!
Great work again. You definitely win the "I've got more toys than you award" !!
I'd like so many more😁
Beautiful work
Thank you Char! I'm glad you like it!
That’s it...I give up. You win the bent lamination game. I’m taking my rocking chair runners and going home.
Fantastic job - thank you for making this video. What was the sliding tool that cut like a stationary wood mill?
Extrem good work and Musik!!!
Thank you so much Heiko!

The idea is where it counts. Seeing it come to life. The tools to get it there are just part of the act.
That's kinda how I look at it😁
Nice job from Brazil!!
What can l say man you are amazing generation of skill coming out from you thanks for sharing your work of art.
Absolutely love it. I wonder if it's mounted with leather strips would look like?
Should make that a rocking chair
Ok now I'm a bit angry because I didn't think of that.. ;D
