Making a Rope Lounger Chair - Bent Lamination
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 окт 2019
- I started by drawing a chair outline on plywood board and cutting the mould pieces from leftover wood pieces. Pieces are attached to the board with wood screws. I cut 2.4mm thin veneer sheets from 4x12cm spruce boards, 40 layers all together. Sheets are then cut to length and sanded down to 2.2mm. Sheets are bent and glued together using two component melamine glue with open time of 45 minutes. After 24 hours in the mould, laminated pieces are taken out and planed. Main piece is cut lengthwise into two identical pieces. Each one is planed on the cut side. Main pieces and round pieces are conected together with small 12mm thick walnut slats held together with acetate glue. Everything is sanded first with belt sander then with orbital sander and finally by hand. Holes are drilled on the outer edge of the lounger sides with 2.5 cm spacing in between . Beech dowels are then glued into each hole. For seat and back rest I used nylon rope braided between the dowels..

I watched this and thougt "I wish I had the shop and skill to make that." Then you marked for all those dowels and I thought "I wish I had someone to do that." :D
Very nice work.
:D especially if you mark it all wrong and have to repeat it like I did.. Thank you! I'm glad you like the project!
@@lignumchannel beautiful workmanship ,very inspiring.
@@bobkelly3944 Thank you:)
ensen89 - Well watch more videos like this, learn all you can about having and maintaining a wood shop, If you learn all you can without hands on experience and you feel like it's something you'd enjoy, look for woodworking classes in your area, or someone who could have you as their apprentice. Woodworking is slowly coming back so I'd say the more the merrier! Personally I don't have a workshop but that's something I'm striving for as I see this as something I'd like to make my living
Remember, experience is invaluable
Mistakes are moments for learning and are precious!
Admire where you're at with you skill but never stop striving to improve!
and last but not least, find a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life
@@lignumchannel I'm glad you got the courage to say it ;)
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ruclips.net/user/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
I like how he lays the whole thing out with a compass.
I really liked the chair you did a while back, but this lounger is on a whole other level...just...Wow!
:D And thanks again ;)
Its a pleasure to see a masterpiece being made with such care and attention to detail. I like how everything is planned and sanded and polished to get that perfect finish. Great work.
Oh God!! You have blown off my mind brother! Can't even make 1% of your skill and architecture .
This is true knowledge, involving everything from calculations to artworks !
This is phenomenal beautiful work! You've done it again!
Thank you very much Mike! :)
Lignum videos are never a disappointment. That's why I try not to miss a single one, sadly I feel very few people are really doing anything 'new' on RUclips. Lignum however never ceases to provoke such deep thought. Love it.
Thank you very much! I Try not to recycle existing projects.. Although getting new ideas is getting harder and harder.. But I don't worry yet ;)
I love that machine that does multiple rips at once.
You make it look easy!!! Even with this edit! Nice work!

Definition of hard work mate❤️❤️❤️
Once again, beautiful work on both the project and the video! I really love the look of the spruce and the lines of this lounger. Unmistakable 'Lignum' style. :)
Thank you Bruxxus! There is something about this curve..
Your chair looks like something out of the future. It has transversed the time barrier. This chair should be the model for chairs in the Mars rocket. UNBELIEVABLE !!!

Thank you Eli! Always really nice to see your comment!
this is one of the coolest chairs I've ever seen... that laminate saw (if that's what its called) is amazing too
industrial tools for specific uses are awesome
Thank you Nicholas!
Same principal as the old wind powered saw mill in the Netherlands. Really cool
That saw is incredibly cool. For such a labor intensive build a little power tool help is awesome
@@lignumchannel What's the tool actually called, the one you use to cut the wood into laminate panels? Could you link up make/model please?
LOVED the chair. Discovered the channel today, subscribing :)
Always a pleasure watching your videos!

Your are the master!!!! Awesome!!!!
Thank you Hosh!
Fc from Thailand 🇹🇭
Wow! Really good
Thank you Peter!
Apprentice: “Master, how many clamps should I put ?”
Master: “Keep clamping until you can’t clamp”
Something like that in this case :D
All of them. Steal from the neighbour if you have to
When you want to start woodworking and notice you have to buy 60 clamps first.
@@arcadebit1551 to add to the 43 you already own
@@lignumchannel I just want to know the thickness of the strips which you cut or made from that long wooden bar.
And how many strips you made from that bar?
Please let me know.
Wow, speechless....
And people wonder why custom furniture cost a lot to buy. Cause its a lot of work!
Is it just me or could he not have just used like 6 sheets of plywood to do this?
Then again he has a whole lumber mill in his shop so...
Your designs are always so simple, yet of course are very labour intensive to fabricate. Always worth the effort though. That's more like a stunning piece of art rather than a lounger seat. Thanks for sharing 5⭐'s
Thank you for watching Robert and for your kind comment. :D It always motivates me when I hear people appreciate my work. Thank you again!
