  • I was gifted my first Apple Watch back in college by my father. Unfortunately, I broke it back in 2020 and wasn't able to afford another one. So I ended up switching to the Fitbit Charge 4, and I've been with Fitbit since. Last year, I upgraded to the Charge 5, and now I thought it was time to give the Apple Watch another try. I found this first-generation SE for $100 on Mercari and I've been using it ever since.
    In today's video, I will share my experience switching from Fitbit to apple watch and tell you which did better at what task. I will also let you know if I recommend you do the same thing. If you have any questions feel free the leave them in a comment below and I will answer them to the best of my abilities.

    Honestly the Fitbit sleep tracker is better than Apple’s. Fitbit automatically detects when you’re asleep even if you’re napping, with Apple you have to manually put in nap data AND it only calculates sleep during your sleep schedule you put in.

      Yes! that was my favorite part of the sleep tracking of the fitbit. I would hope that would eventually come to the apple watch but I guess we will have to wait and see!

      Eh, personally I’ve been using a separate third-party app for sleep tracking with my Apple Watch for years now (specifically the Pillow app; it’s free with a sub free now, but it just had a one time purchase option when I started using it & I’ve never had to upgrade to the subscription). It automatically starts tracking your sleep when it detects you are asleep & just works without me having to really worry much about it.
      I’ve never used a FitBit before, so I can’t speak as to how it compares to FitBit’s sleep tracking & I do have to make sure my watch is charged before going to sleep every night, but overall it works for me.

    Good video. The Apple Watch is obviously superior, but daily charging really let’s it down. Even once a week charging for the fitbit can be a bummer when you are trekking in remote locations, but at least you get a week.

    Thanks for this video. It is becoming more and more rare to have a balanced comparison videos because many YT channels receive free products that are tied to specific agreement that require a list of promo talking points and restrict comments that might make other products appear to be better in certain areas... My 3 year old Fitbit just died so I am considering an Apple watch because I have an iPhone. For me, I don't want to be charging the watch every 48 hours or less. I am likely to buy another Fitbit and wait a few more generations before considering an Apple watch. Thumbsup and subscribing

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Totally understand your comment about finding balanced comparison videos. I also understand your hesitation to getting an apple watch! I will say that I now have a Series 9 apple watch and fast charging has changed the game for me. While you still need to charge it almost every day or every two days. the fast charging makes that much more bearable than it was on my older SE. hope that helps, let me know what you decide to go with.

    After you made the comment about the vibrating alarm only waking you up in the beginning I just had to say this. The reason it stopped waking you up is because you didn’t get up when it buzzed. You are basically telling your subconscious that it isn’t important. That is why people might sometimes sleep through their regular alarm. How to reverse it? Simply tell yourself before you go to sleep that it’s vital you wake up at that time. When the vibration goes off, your subconscious will remind you you really wanted to get up - then take action! It will work for you every time providing you have had a good night’s sleep and get up when it goes off. Case in point: I never hear my husbands alarm as he continually snoozes it, but I wake up (and get up) the second my watch vibrates.

Also, it’ll track when you’re in peak or breaking a sweat while doing any activity and then you have the option to manually edit and change the name of what the workout was. So, it is awesome

    I really like the calories in and out tracking on the Fitbit. Does the Apple Watch have a feature like this or an app that I can download? Fitbit keeps track of the calories I burn and I can log what food I eat using the search feature or scan the barcode on my food. This is the biggest thing stopping me from buying an Apple Watch. This helps me make sure I’m burning more calories than what I’m eating

    • @ardentlytech
      @ardentlytech  10 месяцев назад

      The watch tracks your burned calories but for tracking calorie intake I personally have used the myfitnesspal app. If you download it on your phone you will also have an app for the watch where you can quick add calories, but in the app you can even scan your food, find popular food and thier macros, or even add your own food and macros. I think it'll be helpful for what you're looking for. hope that helps!

    • @ardentlytech
      @ardentlytech  9 месяцев назад

      I’m similar! I often bang my wrist accidentally on doorways and walls. You can get some nicks and scratches if you’re doing something similar. But you can also get third party bumpers to help with that. Honestly the newer ones are pretty durable as far as you’re not dropping it like I once did.
      My original Apple Watch screen cracked all the way around when I knocked it off the counter when I was getting out of the shower. So as long as you’re mindful of where it is they are pretty strong in my experience.

    I like the Apple Watch, the build the look. After further research, it can't record naps. As an older person, that becomes more important. In the recent version, accurate Heart Rate and Sleep tracking are excellent, two of the most essential parts of health. Sleep tracking is based on your set schedule; if I understand correctly, that can be fine for a regular night person. Otherwise, Fitbit Charge 5 will record any nap or sleep time. Garmin has the same issue. Google Pixel watch uses Fitbit tech. I assume it is like Fitbit, but the build can't match Garmin or Apple. I am trying Whoop and see the cost of a subscription worth changing bad habits.

    I was really thinking about jumping back to an apple watch with the series 9 but I think Fitbit is still the way to go for me. As someone who is mainly looking for a fitness tracker and really doesn't like all the smart features on a smart watch its the better way to go. Maybe apple will address that market with a tracker off their own? Maybe with a scale for body fat % and an all in one app? Until that day: fitbit.
    Sidenote: this wasn't a fair comparison since you compared a tracker with a smartwatch. The fitbit sense would have addressed all issues mentioned. That being said: as someone who is deep in the apple ecosystem as well i would also rather go towards the apple watch if i was looking for a smart watch in general and not only a tracker

    I am an Android user, so AW is out for me. Charge 5 strength is a health tracker minus the complexity of a watch. Since we always need to bring a smartphone anyway, why have a smartwatch which does less than a smartphone? With the battery life of Charge 5, that is more important in usability over features,.
