+flameeagle123 if you have a glorious view of love never let anything, whether it be science, a broken heart, or general desperation about life, take that view away from you. Love is too beautiful to be ruined by something so mundane as everyday pain.
there's a dictionary definition of true love: Unconditional care. Basically, the truest love involves the ability for a person to put somebody else higher than themselves in priority. If you are willing to die to protect somebody else and have no regrets in doing so, you probably love that person (a lot).
4 Types of Love • Eros: erotic, passionate love. • Philia: love of friends and equals. • Storge: love of parents for children. • Agape: love of mankind.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 BOOKS)
Love is the most ultimate form of paradox. Thinking why we fall in love is the best way to actually love. Love can infuse passions or destroy everything.
"For ill minds love is a burden. For average minds love is a virtue. For intelligent mind love is a duty. But one who evolves beyond mind, for him love becomes his nature."
why do people think about romance when talking about love?It always bugs me.Why can't we love someone without being attracted to someone?Love is so much more than that!love is warmth and light. When there is unconditional love a person feels fuzzy and warm and completed and not only romance can bring you that.Loving your parents and your friends and your family can be as strong as romantic love.Don't degrade it to just that.We should accept that facet of love but not have as all there is to it.
I see your point. I would argue that because there are so many different kinds of love, saying one kind is universally superior to all others among people is very subjective. Some people will prioritize their blood relatives first, as they love them the "most"; some people will prioritize their partners, as they love them the "most"; and others will prioritize themselves first, as they love themselves the "most". I used "most" in quotation marks because measuring love is abstract but still is a common attempt/phrase.

Love always wins; that means someone has to lose eventually. I don’t trust anyone enough to love them. Love is a weakness, specially when it’s one sided. I think if we spend as much time trying to define any other feeling, such as anger or sadness, we'd run into just as many problems trying to define those.

I think _Stranger in a Strange Land_ did a pretty good job of defining it. It was something like, "Love is the condition in which another person's happiness is more important than your own."
I have spent many years studying the topic of love, courtship, and limerence, but even I have barely scratched the surface (I will go as far as to say I have a much better understanding of it than most people though, and can explain some of my findings). I'd like to think that love is about "symbiotic balance", and that a majority of divorces are caused by people who didn't understand the depth of the concept of compatibility hooking up. What sets love apart from any of your friends or non-genetic family? I frame love by categorizing it into three aspects- heck, I define PEOPLE into these three aspects, which I refer to as the "trichotomy": body, mind, and "spirit" (hang on, I'm going somewhere with this). Body aspect is basically physical attractiveness, physical fitness/capability, and how intimately stimulating they are (if you get my drift). Mind is basically "being smart": not doing horrendously stupid things that backfire, knowing how to get out of a bad situation, having the capabilities of logic/reason and scientific method. Spirit is basically personality and philosophy: being able to see the world differently, frame issues in a different manor/from a different angle, how they chose to go about living their lives. You have to have a good balance between the Trichotomy to be a functional person and have a functional relationship. This is just a rough synopsis and requires a great deal more explanation, as my condensed version does butcher a bit; but "symbiotic balance" is a good starting point, and Trichotomy is a good frame.
Elfos64 ***** Life without romantic love is very well possible and I do think that even if you never get that kind of relationship you can have a long and fullfilling live. There is just simply way to much awesome stuff out there and things you can pur your heart into that can fullfill you. For me personally I also decided that romantic love is not worth the hassle even though my favorite genre fictional work is romance. It is nice to watch but simply not worth it for me.
GKMcWhite . Love is only a hassle if you're doing it wrong. I hate how many romances seem to think Romeo and Juliet is the epitome of romance, that the only way love means anything is if it's strong enough to overcome obstacles such as their respective families despising each other. That is utter bullshit. The true significance of love is its presence in contrast to its absence. Once you know true love, you will feel how much you don't want to live in its absence. I love watching movies, but I dislike watching them by myself. If I find a really good one, I don't want to be without anyone to acknowledge its good traits with, someone who can share in my frame of reference of media I've consumed and what it means to me, how it's made me think. If I find a really bad one, I want someone I can complain about its awfulness with and make jokes at its expense with. If I find one that just seems kind of meh, I want someone I can attempt to extrapolate additional depth or flaws out of the piece with I might not have noticed in an isolated environment. Those awesome things we can do mean more if there's someone to share the experience with.
Elfos64 Yeah sure, I agree with you on everything you say. It is a neat thing to have indeed and I often dream about such things - about a person that makes you more complete. But the fact that I would no longer be able to live without this kind of relationship and always crave for it as you stated "Once you know true love..." bugs the hell out of me. I have enough stuff in my head and are just ever so slightly able to deal with myself. There is no room for something I do not have the slightest control over. As for sharing stuff with people: I have a good chunk of people who enjoy the same media as I am, though I have yet to find a person with the same taste in music (but by now I think that is impossible). It also appears to me that not finding (good) romantic love and avoiding it is way easier than being open for it and trying to actively search for it, so yeah, much easier.
GKMcWhite . "I have enough stuff in my head and are just ever so slightly able to deal with myself. There is no room for something I do not have the slightest control over." Love isn't something you're supposed to control, it's something that's supposed to help you control yourself, though it is mutual- you are supposed to help them control themselves too. Love is a two-way street.

It's a deep routed affection, it's wanting somebody else to be happy rather than just yourself, it's having the respect level to keep calm with each other in a disagreement
Love is a blinding emotion because two people I dated, I thought I was in love with. Now I can't stand them or anyone who even reminds me of them. Both were mentally ill and once I got out of that emotion , I seen their true colors. I'm older ,and the experience I had with both from years ago allow me to choose wisely now.
For me, love is a sense of trust , understanding, respect, respecting boundaries, responsibility, care, communication, acceptance, forgiveness, support, not giving up, facing problems together; overall, it's a duty of both partners, not just one who's trying his/her best to maintain love, affection, and effort.
A Long Time ago, Time magazine ran a cover story on how our brains react when falling in love, chemical and physiological changes, ect. It talked a lot about what this video is about. I read the responses the next week and someone had wrote "Leave the better things in life unexplained, and I promise to continue reading Time" That's about the same way I feel about this video!
To me, the biological aspect is the foundation of what we know call "love", where people looked for someone to reproduce with. But it isn't love exactly, merely attraction. Then society introduced love which is having all those emotional connection, happiness, commitment, etc. etc. It's continually being taught in our society, because it sells. Consumerism imposes love as something you should aspire to have so you would have the need to buy this or that for someone. Thus the establishment of giving chocolates and flowers on Valentine's Day and giving an unreasonably priced diamond rings for engagement. It's important that one is aware that love is a social construct so that they can be able have a better perspective on a realistic form of love, the good and the bad. So they could create a balance of expectations and have the willingness to compromise with their partner. Of course a person could learn this alone through tons of experiences, but it doesn't hurt that one knew this before succumbing to it. I'm sorry that I'm being cynical about this, it's just terrible to see people looking for love for all the wrong and selfish reasons and end up being bitter because they get heartbroken. I frown upon this view of fantasy from a certain population that love is the end all be all.

I read the responses the next week and someone had wrote "Leave the better things in life unexplained, and I promise to continue reading Time" That's about the same way I feel about this video!
The animation is immaculate-
“I am not obsessed with the idea of love, I AM LOVE”- Willow Smith
Love is something that can't be explained
Best Ted-Ed so far!
Congratulations!!! Great work! I love all the videos, they're so useful, entertaining, creative and easy to understand.
0:25 Queen reference (Love conquers all), and a Beatles reference (All you need is love). Now I love this video! (Ugh, puns)

Love is a cult. Video done.
the design is so sick , i love watching those videos
Love is not a feeling, but a decision. When you put the other person's needs above your own. Love is not lust.
The best video so far on RUclips. Makes perfect sense.!
Wow!! One if the best TED ed videos, I have ever watched
...baby don't hurt me.
Came for this.
Came here to like this.
The narrations is awesome!
"What is romantic love?" would have been a more accurate title
True
Yeah well then we couldn’t have the “baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more.”
Best narrator of all time
baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me.. no more.. oooh oooh ooooooooh ooh oohhh ooooooohhh.
Ofmg. I know Ted ed vids are cool, but c'mn, this is by far THE BEST!
"Everyone that is on the side of the thruth listens to my voice." Pilate said to him: "What is truth ?"
I love it how y’all illustrate your videos
That ending doe :3
your voice😫 it took my heart
Me: *comes for the intention of meeting other Onces*
Comment section: *About the other What is Love*
Me: *Sad Once noises*
But honestly tho.. both are good. STAN TWICE YALLLLL
I wanna know know know know, what is love?
*Video : What is love?*
*Me : A song of Twice...*
😂😄😅
I was expecting a more biological explanation. I do agree on one of his last statements; love is just a way of keeping our species alive and diverse
dude the graphics in these videos are incredible
*aro aces laughing in the distance*
+Hotaru Purcell I was waiting for some mention of it the entire video. Then I realized it was made in 2013.
I can hear them cackling
+Hotaru Purcell Sorry to necro, but can I get a timestamp please?
I'm just an aro, but still
Daze Purcell asexy's can feel love. I'm ace and I feel love/romantic feelings just not the sexual attraction. I don't see a good looking human and want to "have breakfast with them". Like all the people I grew surrounded by would see someone they "fancied" and would say "I wouldn't kick him out of bed" but I'd be like "they ain't getting anywhere near my bed"
That ending is the truth of love 😂😂😂
That was epic!
Twice!
What is love?
Mmm
Mmm
Ooh
I wanna know 사탕처럼 달콤하다는데
I wanna know 하늘을 나는 것 같다는데
I wanna know know know know
What is love?
I wanna know 하루 종일 웃고 있다는데
I wanna know 세상이 다 아름답다는데
I wanna know know know know
What is love?
Mmm
Mmm
Ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh
I wanna know 사탕처럼 달콤하다는데
I wanna know 하늘을 나는 것 같다는데
I wanna know know know know
What is love?
I wanna know 하루 종일 웃고 있다는데
I wanna know 세상이 다 아름답다는데
I wanna know know know know
What is love?
I wanna know know know know
What is love?
I wanna know know know know
What is love?
I wanna know, I wanna know
I wanna know know know know
What is love?
I wanna know, I wanna know
I wanna know, I wanna know
I wanna know know know know
What is love?
I wanna know
I'm so impressed by the quality of this video. So well made👌
Title: What is love?
Video: What is love?

The animation is really beautiful and I just realized this video is 7 years old my lord!!!

"I wanna know know know know..."
can't help itttt
Is that a Tae pfp🤔💜
Ted-ED at 3 am hits different
Excellent animation. The heart-based DNA spiral in particular, although a relatively easy cgi feat, was rather an inspiring idea.
If life is a videogame, love is caring about the gaming experience of every player. Make sure everyone is having fun.
What is love?! BABY DON'T HURT MEEEEE 😂😅
I swear I didn't copy anyone! I just saw all the comments 😂
This video is so chaotic. I love it.
