tchaikovsky makes autumn sound so sorrowful and melancholy with a touch of nostalgia
Where they lived were different so autumn in their eyes had different color. One cheerful, lively with bright color of trees, birds and sky, the other cold, sad, nostalgia like the pine forest in the fog of early morning.

Forgive a very sentimental, and heartbroken old man such as myself, but I lost my dear sweet wife in October of 2015, and therefore THIS music, and ANY music related to Autumn tears me up emotionally. You can LITERALLY hear Tchaikovsky's TEARS in this music. At any rate, thank you for the post.

Sorry for loss.
It wasn't until just now that I realized how many of my favorite pieces are actually by Tchaikovsky. The ending to this brings tears to my eyes.

My grandma loved this song. When I was little, she would play this on the piano and I would drift off to sleep. Those were good Times.

I have to agree with you ( even though there are many other talented composers like Chopin and Liszt, Tchaikovsky is definitely among one of them ), my piano teacher would always say how Tchaikovsky also expressed his thoughts about his nation in his music, if you listen carefully, you could feel a slim sadness and loneliness, about the cold nights and empty streets in Russia, but there are more cheerful pieces , this one is one of my favorites , i dont know why, i could just feel a relation and cant stop listening to this XD maybe it is because autumn is my favorite season ?
Li Shoph I agree with your piano teacher. I really feel the russian soul within this marvellous music, maybe it explains why I can recognize a Tchaikovsky song without having heard it before, it's like someone is telling me a story , it has something particularly russian. Maybe it's an eastern European thing because I also noticed this at the romanian composers ( like Ciprian Porumbescu , Eugen Doga or Iosif Ivanovici) , their melodies have something really sad , mysterious and even tragic, since they were written in harsh times ( I know Romania had a really harsh and quite tragic history), I feel they all evoke the common romanian wish of that time ( and even now) of national unity , because they were separated from their brothers in Transylvania and Bessarabia. It's astonishing how this music can tell you so much with absolutely NO words!!! :)

Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons and Tchaikovsky was able to capture that perfectly in this song. I love how Tchaikovsky embodies romanticism.
It's been said by some that this was the band's last song as the Titanic went down. I really hope that's correct; beautiful song.

Thanks for the upload. It's always nice to hear little known pieces by famous composers. It kind of puts things into perspective. Tchaikovsky is not always about his ballets, his pathetique symphony, his piano concerto Nr1. He was a prolific composer. And a very good one too. I absolutely love this piece.
