I actually think that Bulova's 24 hr complication and crosshair on the dial actually add character and charm that is so perfectly 70's in spirit. Without it it's just another dress watch.
I bought the PRX automatic. I went for the auto because I believed it would be a long-term piece in my collection, And a good way to add another Swiss movement into my collection… I have not been disappointed… Awesome watch awesome bracelet awesome dimensions! Thanks Jody!
You make such a fair point about getting the quartz over the automatic. Every time I pick out a watch, I have set the date, time, and wind. This has led me to just wearing my BB58 every day (not a bad thing!), but the idea of just grabbing out a PRX (around £250, what a steal) out my box is so tempting. Even the Gentleman is such a good prospect, if for a little bit more. No, I won't get a watch winder, I am not that far down the hole lol.
Good colour choice with the PRX. I went for the same one a few days ago, after saving up my Tesco Clubcard points and converting them to Goldsmiths vouchers. I just had £55 to pay out my own pocket. I'm very happy with my purchase. Enjoy.
Normally I bemoan date complications on watches if they're not color matched, but the Bulova's white date wheel at least adds a bit of visual impact on the right side of the dial to help balance that 24 hour subdial. It would have been interesting however if Bulova had gone with a framed circular date window to mirror the shape, if not the size of the 24 hour complication. Fun review as always!
Two nice watches. For me this silver and rose gold colour variant of the PRX exudes most of the quartz crisis era vibes. The upgraded Miyota 8 series movement aren't bad at all, they have of a discernible rotor wobble due to the skeletonised Rotor and besides they are way nice to look at that the Seiko NH3x
Double bravo! Glad that you got the quartz Tissot - a nice vacation from anti-quartz fanaticism that prevails among US reviewers. As for the Aerojet - I have one: 96B242. Aesthetically beautiful, then and now.
I bought a Bulova Hack with 38 mm last year. It is a great looking watch and keeps amazing time. When I heard you say Bulova are terrible I assumed you had lost your mind. Then I went to the website. You are right. Some god awful looking watches! But I like the Tissot!
Wow! So refreshing to hear a member of watch review royalty extolling the virtues of quartz. My modest collection of ten watches is half quartz, half mechanical and my go to daily’s are definitely quartz. That Bulova is stunning! I think I’m in love 😍
Gorgeous colorway on the PRX, almost looks like white gold indices. Will have to see if that dial is an option on the 35mm, it'd make a perfect summer watch for me.
38-40mm minimum is a good guideline but obviously classic watches are smaller. I did try on the PRX and didn't sit quite nicely enough (6.5" wrist). Quartz is the way to go for half the price almost
I totally agree that the Bulova is beautiful. Put that on a Strapco BOR bracelet and its perfect. Thanks for the review. Both of these are really nice.
Bulova seems to have a lot of gems lately. The Bulova wilton 96C143 (and other colours like the blue) is a spec monster with a miyota hi beat, power revere, 24 hr indicator, day and date ,sapphire, deployment clasp, display caseback... The Wilton range has other models as well like the 96A207.
I went into a shop last year saying to my wife "I'm getting a blue PRX", must've said it 3 or 4 times that day and about 20 times since they'd been launched... Came out with the silver dial with gold hands. lol. No regrets, love it.
The Bulova is gorgeous. If Citizen ever decides to take one of these gems from the past and max it out with the latest and greatest,,, well. take my money!!
Two great looking watches Jody ! I got my PRX blue quartz two days ago and Im in love with it, looks amazing irl. That Bulova is beautiful, I even like the 24h complication , but the price for what you get is bad
@@tapirdeaalex7104 You won't find it for 200 US. Maybe 320. This is the second time that I'm aware of a price stated on this channel that can't be found. Both times were watches he purchases himself. That PRX is on my wishlist. Wanted the white dial auto but the size seems too large for my wrist. I did hear they are coming with a smaller dial quartz but am not sure when.
As I quartz prx owner I agree with what you said and looks like mine isn't on its own missing the markers. But not a deal to be done. Do like the colourway you chose though, so nice. And that Bulova, just wow, what a stunner that is.
I've always liked the white dial versions of the PRX, but I wasn't sure about the rose gold. Happy to see the colour is not as saturated as I feared. It's an absolutely spanking watch, the powermatic version will probably be my next watch.
The Bulova wasn't quite my cuppa, but without the 24 hr complication, it's pretty stunning. In meatspace, I use analogue tools to remind me where reality begins.
I agree with you about automatic watches. My other complaint is also the expense of service charges. Lately I have picked up a couple of solar pieces. I also have my eye on a couple of Bulova Precisionist pieces.
Good grief that Bulova... I almost was about to Google the two tone PRX, but I'm going straight to search Bulova Aerojet. Absolute stunner. Wow. Thanks Jody. Can't wait for the full review. I suspect it won't matter, I'll have one by then😂
I know the PRX are hot right now but still holding out for a Powermatic 80 Silicone. As for Bulova the two that really appeal to me are the Lunar Pilot and the Curv .... I know pretty standard but sometimes the classics are most appealing for a reason.
Great choices. I’ve been listing for a PRX but can’t get around to pulling the trigger. I picked up a Bulova 98A187 in January, but was disappointed with the fit. Just a bit big for my 6.5” wrist with the supplied Croc strap. I swapped over to a mesh and enjoy it much more now. Great as alway Jody.
Another great video! Love both watches, though I doubt I'll buy either. On a side note, I have a problem with 24 hour dials always putting 24 at TDC. Straight up for me means 'noon,' not middle of the night. I wonder why this appears to be the standard?
Love my blue PRX Powermatic and would only swap it against the better movement with the Silicone or if made with titanium case & bracelet just like the Gentleman. Think you will find that your PRX is very much of a smudge and scratch magnet. None of my other watches gathered so much of these so quickly like the PRX does. Cannot fight the feeling the 316-L is somewhat softer than usual.
NGL i kinda wish there was a red prx, I ended up getting the blue quartz, and its great, but I think a red dial would have looked stunning. By gosh that Bulova is stunning!
My fathers retirement watch is a Bulova "Accutron" branded. No gold just colored to look gold with a quartz Accutron movement and interesting enough the dial was co-designed by the company my father worked for and Bulova with some cool Easter egg elements thrown in. It helps that the company is now out of business but incredibly collectible on the secondary market. The year my father retired there were a total of 24 made (24 total retirements). Talk about limited edition and they changed the designs each year from what I've been told to make up for the lack of gold.

Even when you order through Amazon like I have the watch is still coming out of Russia ?
I think the PRX wants to be quartz. It's a louche watch - especially in the silver and gold - and automatic is just too upright for its charms. I've been eyeing up that Aerojet too; that's another piece for the rakish gent! Lovely pair you've got there.
Ooooh that PRX is tempting me sorely… Almost pulled the trigger on it a couple of times. I love the whole look and feel of it… but I just don’t love the look of it on my wrist, as I found out visiting a local dealer a couple of months ago… But that clear great-watch-just-not-for-me feeling is fading a bit now. 😅 So, here I am, tempted all over again! 😆 Had (or still have) a similar experience with the Bambino. Oh well, it keeps things interesting!
Have a very similar Bulova (same case, indeces and crossheir design) but with a lower grade movement, black dial and open heart. I definitely paid too much for it at the time but learned to love it. The one unforgivable thing about it though is having lume dots around the indeces but no lume on the hands!

I was really intrigued by the PRX when it came out. Then I tried one on… and it was a little to much 1970’s. That’s a watch you really need to see in person, to make sure you like it or not.
@@JustOneMoreWatch It is true, I’m more of a Hamilton Khaki Mechanical kind of guy. The PRX is pretty much the opposite of that watch.
