2018 Volkswagen Atlas vs 2017 Honda Pilot Comparison Test

- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- For years Volkswagen neglected the SUV segment, with just the undersized Tiguan and overpriced Touareg in their showrooms, but they’re finally bringing a three-row, seven-seat midsize crossover to market.
Is it too little, too late? If they hope to have any success in the segment, the Atlas has to win over customers that have been buying Explorers, Highlanders and Santa Fes for generations, and one of the best of the current crop is the Honda Pilot.
Volkswagen has taken a page out of the Pilot playbook, with a larger footprint placing an emphasis on interior space and cargo capacity, but does it have all the right moves to match up to one of the family favorites in this segment?

Rough ride? How sensitive are you? THe Atlas is one of the smoothest I've tried outside of Mercedes. It's not rough at all.
I have to agree, I am an Atlas owner and I love it, but honestly I'm almost positive that the pilot is faster, I don't know that I would go to these guys for an opinion. needless to say I wouldn't buy a pilot over the Atlas, but I can't say that the pilot is slower.
If you look at other reviews the main thing people like is the smooth ride
Geoff Bland I Agree it is a very smooth ride indeed!
If you want to see a rough ride try driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
louis zabbatino the pilot was faster overall but power came high in the rev range. The power delivery of the Atlas at lower rpms is more usable in around town driving.
Honda reliability and resale for the win
The pilot doesn't have blind spot monitor. For a car that long, that's ridiculous. Mdx have it. One reason I didn't buy the pilot.
$50,000 for a vehicle with a digital dash, non removable radio, and no spare tire to be found. At any other point in history, this shit would be laughed at. But I keep forgetting, we are living in an age of dipshit drivers.
The spare tire is under the car like most large suv's. What care made after 2010 has a removable radio? You look like the idiot.
impaul41 id like to see said spare tire. And if an infotainment system isnt able to be removed, its not worth the asking price. New cars suck. It is you who is the fool here.
Pilot looks lime a Soccer Mom minivan
You lost me on the random swearing guy....
cry about it
I test drive both before I made my decision and first off the atlas has a lot more room. The bulkier design makes it feel a little more manly where as the pilot kinda felt mini vanish. The smoothness over the bumps was very similar for both. Now as far as “jerky” acceleration and all that stuff. It has modes, if you don’t want it to be like that I just put it in eco and it’s very laid back. After comparing both back to back it was no question that you get a lot more with the atlas and it feels very high class when you drive it. So I bought it!
As a pilot owner for a decade and I bought it 5 years old. I'm a hard sell for anything else. I am giving the atlas a try this time. 😊
Atlas is smoothiest drive that I ever had on a sub.
I have the 2016 Pilot. Bought it the moment it hit the lot when it was first released. I put over 43k already. So far its been very machanically reliable. I found the ride to be good especially on long road trips. The Infotainment system not very intuitive and can be buggy. All in all, I love my Pilot.
I'm sure the Atlas owners will be happy if theirs are still mechanically reliable after a year or two. I'm getting the 2019 Pilot.
Thank you for your brief review as an actual owner.
Did you get the pilot with the 9 speed. Buying that one this week. A 2016. Looking for all the feedback I can find. It’s my dream vehicle!
They last forever I have 3 my oldest is 15 years old and has 248,000 miles in original motor and trans - they’re tanks !!
Totally agree mine was a 2008 at 96,000 and 5 years old when i bought her. and I had her till 2023 and 225,000 when her body gave up. The engine was still ok. But the rust level of the rear axle made her unsafe. So her engine was still going.
No mention of the volkswagen digital cockpit, the self parking system or the 6yr/72K warranty..the pilot does not even have a 360 camera system..biased? seems like it..
usthambi Exactly what I was thinking! Sometimes using your own discernment can really go a long way!
You talking about Pilot from a year older than Atlas.
Come back in 5 years and compare the vehicles. VW's are garbage with cheap tech that fails. VR6's sound great though.
You don’t nee 360 camera unless you don’t know how to park
@@Kanti12311 ...clearly someone has never had to park in spaces where you literally have inches to clear other cars.
I guess nobody needs backup cameras either! That's why the government now mandates them in all cars.
This was a great video to watch with my kids until you through out "does it have to be so G d slow". Sorry nice vid but do to language I cannot sub
This guy just might be more annoying than the dude from Redline Reviews...and that is no small accomplishment.
Great comparison. Both the Atlas and the Pilot are pretty solid choices in their class! This comparison test highlighted some of the many features, creature comforts, and cabin amenities of these two vehicles.
I personally believe it will ultimately be up to the most minute personal preferences that will result in the complete sway of decision, from the buyers of these Midsize 3-row Crossovers. Especially since, both of these vehicles have proven to be pretty practical, ergonomic, and spacious "family worthy" crossovers within their class. From car enthusiast to another, keep up the great work! 👍🏽
Actually the warranty. Most people dont know that VW put a Six-year/72,000-mile “bumper-to-bumper” New Vehicle Limited Warranty on it. Shockingly its true!
Mark D, That is a good point! I truly cannot wait to review these vehicles.👍🏽
Its based on the MQB plateform so it has to be good. I just dont know how cheap they made the inside of it since its so massive. The Golf R has an beautiful interior for example..
Until VW breaks and you pay for the German engineering
Same goes for Japanese. Had a lemon 2010 Pilot, theres a class action lawsuit too. Look: classactionlawsuitsinthenews.com/class-action-lawsuit-settlements/honda-engine-misfire-class-action-settlement-of-soto-v-american-honda-motor-lawsuit-over-engine-misfire-premature-spark-plug-fouling/
Despite recent Honda's reliability hiccups, if I had to choose between those two, it would be Honda Pilot hands down. The cost of ownership over a longer period (I keep cars for an average of 10 years or more) will be far lower for the Honda than the VW..
Based on what?? What if a major component on that Honda goes. Sure, Hondas are good, but they're not immune to problems. stay away from the 4 cyl. The V6 has no turbos and an Aisin transmission, so it should not give you any major issues if taken care of.
@@bmw803 Have you noticed my post was 4 years old? Today I would likely skip both of them.
@@mountainhobo yeah, I noticed that most of this shit after I wrote a few. I however, picked a VR6 last week. Found out that they put an Aisin transmission, which are pretty good. It's not the best vehicle, but not the worst.
@@mountainhoboand get what
The Atlas also has an option for captains chairs in the second row, also the Atlas in this review is an SEL Premium trim and it is the only trim level that has the digital cockpit, the lower trims have your standard dials for rpm and speed. The SEL Premium is also the only trim with heated and ventilated front seats, the other trims except the base have just heated seats while the base trim has neither and has a cloth interior.
Don’t know what he is talking about on the ride feel, I have been in a few Atlas vehicles and I think it is a nice smooth ride and does not feel like it is a big car when I drive it. It handles like a Volkswagen Passat to me. The warranty that is on the new Volkswagens is awesome as well, 6 years or 72k miles of limited bumper to bumper warranty is the best, brings cost of ownership way way down.
2:55 you said the atlas has one more seat than the pilot but actually they are the same because the atlas only has two seats in the third row
The atlas looks like a Kia Borrego and 2004 Grand Cherokee had a one night stand
Atlas is so smooth. It is such a joy to drive this car.
VW definitely better. The Pilot is not an SUV and looks like a car for moms!
Bad Driving in Hamilton-Toronto Area soccer moms
Both are just tall minivans
That’s what my husband said...he feels pilot drivers are all females 😂
This is absurd! we're talking about an inanimate machine, a lump of metal! Assigning gender to a machine is an obvious reveal of your husband's lack of comfort with his manhood. "FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION"!!!
4 cyl for the size of Atlas is weak. Yes there’s an opt for v6, but common guys in VW!!!
2017 Honda Pilot vs 2018 Volkswagen Atlas
Don’t forget Volkswagen has the better warranty. 6 years/72000 miles if i am not mistaken.
Harry vP aaannnddd they are going to need it hahah
7 years
@@mitchellmitchell6938 I have a 2018 Atlas and hadnt had any problems as of yet. Hahaha
“Why is the pilot so God Damn slow”? Wow Autoguide
Cry about it
Germany cars are only problems
I drove them both...had the Pilot for 3 days....then bought the Atlas. The Pilot waffles back and forth like a boat. The Atlas has a smooth ride and the acceleration is fine. What did I trade-in for the Atlas?, a 2012 Pilot.
John Baldwin I have a 2004 pilot that I bought new 15 years ago and has 248,000 miles on the original trans and motor. My wife has a 2016 and I have a 2016. They are well engineered vehicles. I was thinking of Atlas but if something goes bad Obed warranty is out, it could be pricey and the atlas is only 2 years old, no telling how well they do in time. Honda is top of line in the reliability category.
Don't know what he's talking about with the "hard" ride. I just drove an Atlas last week and it was the smoothest SUV I've ever been in.
I noticed that he is reviewing the SEL Premium 4Motion which comes with 20" wheels standard. I'm guessing you rode in a lower trim with the 18" wheels which is going to have a softer ride. I just ordered the SEL 4Motion myself (18" wheels") and I sure hope the ride quality is better than what he's saying.
As a VW Atlas RLine Sel owner, have to say I'm very happy with the car. Recommend getting the captains chairs.
I just don't understand car reviewers not being objective.
How is the Pilot "GOD DAMN SLOW" ???
0-60 in less than 7 seconds. Hellooooooooooooooooo! You're not driving a sports car - it's a THREE ROW SUV. Then, only two cars with decent acceleration are twin turbo Explorer and V8 Durango, right Mr. Reviewer??
For the love of God, I'm going to drive this with my family inside, through the traffic - like I care if it's 0-60 in 5.5 or 8.5 seconds. To be honest, I don't see who would appreciate being pushed in the seatback too much every time I step on the pedal(excluding myself or driving enthusiast who's in the SPORTS CAR - not three row SUV).
You guys need to think "INSIDE THE CATEGORY" - and say: It's slightly slower than than the following competitors, or faster or just in the middle of the segment. Nobody expects these cars to be lightning fast - you're giving out wrong impression. Someone who's not familiar with cars enough would step away from Pilot now, thinking it's slow and boring - but it's the complete opposite, it's actually on the faster end of mid size three row SUV's.
Unbeliavable!
Kju Njels only it's not slower than the competitors... it's faster. It's just a soft gas pedal at low RPMs. So it feels slow even though getting to 60 is pretty quick. At least he complains about various things. Some of these reviews never complain because they fear the company's won't send them cars for review.
I completely disagree. I want an SUV that can store my family and pass on the highway. I have a family. That doesn't mean I don't like driving. You apparently don't mind driving a slow vehicle but that's not most men.
Why does this guy and why does Autoguide.com allow taking the Lord's name in vain. I appreciate the view but please don't do this.
@@arguewithmepodcast what is the highway speed limit?
@@tamamboylekalsn the answer is: something I do not observe.
But even if I did, there's no law against getting to that speed limit the quickest.
Anyway, if you want government rules to dictate what car you have that's up to you. It's a bit sad. But it's your choice.
I would rather consumer demand and competition for better products steer the market.
And I want to drive something I actually enjoy because I'm not dead inside.
Did the check engine light come on in the VW while making this video? You know a VW isnt running right if the check engine light isnt on....lol
Honda pilot is a no brainer .. if you want a good lasting reliable vehicle
The VW is far better looking.
Kirk M its a cheap audi...of course.
agreed. they completely fucked up the Pilot's looks with this newest redesign.
Matt Johnson because the old Square Pilot was such a looker too. Lol
I think the pilot looks better than the panzer
Looks ain’t real deal
I had pilot 2016 and I love it,my husband had overprice Touareg...so he hates VW.....he said no more VW.but now I look at Atlas, they have good change,Atlas looks nice
Yes.. I like the Pilot too.. but.. Really the only bad thing about the Pilot is its dashboard and controls. The steering wheel is great, but I am not sure how Honda could totally make such a terrible dashboard and controls. All Honda had to do was make a simple, clean, traditional dashboard design (Note to Honda: just copy the Dashboard/controls/instrument clustor of the Mazda CX-9) and they would have made a really great SUV. That is really unfortunate, because the dashboard layout is so important.
Despite the Pilot not feeling fast... Isn't the it one of the quickest 3 row crossovers? MT had a 0 to 60 of 6.5 seconds and quicker. The Atlas is somewhere in the high sevens. The low end torque the Atlas is providing just creates a sensation of oomph while not really making the car faster. Much like the TDI. I think this should be mentioned in this review because the talk of throttle response and torque sort of makes the Pilot sound slow by comparison when it isn't.
Could have done without the "Goddamn" in the review. I watch these with my kid.
We recently (August) bought the VW Atlas, the final decision was between the Atlas and the Pilot. We considered the Highlander and CX-9 but both third rows where too small and not really usable unless you have very little kids. We considered the Durango/Explorer, but the vehicle was a bit too outdated to us. We are not fans of Korean brands.
We eventually choose for the Atlas instead of the Pilot:
-Atlas drives much better, really like a European SUV and not like a van as the Pilot
-Superior steering, much more sporty
-The controls and entertainment systems are more modern
-The safety package on the Honda is outdated
-The looks of the Honda are very boring
-VW has 72k miles warranty and is just more modern vehicle then the Pilot
-VW is more spacious
-Did not like the stupid shifter in the Honda
-Standard 10 speed
-Did not like the fake blue lighting in the Honda
-Exterior lighting, full LED in the VW is far superior
-Honda is a great vehicle, but more a soccer mom vehicle and a van that looks like an "SUV".. just buy the Odesy
What we liked about the Honda:
-Very good seats
-Honda quality
-Overall very sturdy and durable
After 3 months driving, are there comments on the VW, yes:
-Fuel-tank is small, and vehicle, especially the AWD drinks fuel
-The rims (its a huge vehicle) are small looking and big rims only come in high or sport package (plus 3k)
For the rest we love our VW.
Please know, the Atlas is not a luxury SUV. I business wise drive a JEEP GC Summit 4X4 and thats is a totally different vehicle, so do not compare the Atlas to a Touareg: it is not.
such boring car reviews lately. just Honda's and VW.
lizardgreen2121 don't forget the dreadful CRV comparison videos. I think they are up to 8 of them
Blake Swan ugh don't remind me lol. I love the reviewers but what's going on with the same cars. other reviewers are up to date with the new and upcoming.
The CR-V was a long-term test, so we had it for a few month and chose to do a series of comparisons with it and get different reviewers perspectives rather than just repeating ourselves with various updates. It's a huge seller and there is a ton of interest in it, so it's what most people want to see. just look at the number of views on all those CR-V comparisons. That being said, we have some fun stuff coming up and are shooting more sports cars and luxury cars over the summer. Which segments are you most interested in?
lizardgreen2121 it a vehicle review not a color review the paint doesn't make the car move you will survive
My parents tried the atlas all of the seats are good and it drives smoothly idk why u said the middle backseat isn't comfortable
so lemme get this straight... The pilot won because it's slower, worse, and has a broken cruise control? Sounds like the only reason the Atlas lost was because your snot nose kids can't watch My Little Pony and they're forced to look outside at all the dumb beautiful scenery
Pretty much... you don't buy a Pilot because you like sitting in the driver's seat. You buy it because you can't figure out how to purchase a tablet that your kids can watch their cartoons on in the back seat.
plus he forgot to mention the huge front to back sun roof in the atlas... kind of hard to hang a dvd screen in the glass. lol just love how everyone with a youtube channel now thinks they can review a car by just looking at the info online. plus he didn't even talk about the VW atlas' 4motion all wheel drive system.
And Atlas also comes with pilot seats for the secound row. Also not a word about 4Moution of the Atlas wich is a really big deal.
He commented that the atlas felt jerky off the line and the pilot felt slow. But he didn't say the pilot was "slower." In fact the Honda is quite a bit quicker. So I don't know if this guy is just negative about everything or what. Most people seem to like both vehicles. Pilot,s 0-60 in just over 6 seconds while the v-dub gets it done in around 8.
Not to mention, the Atlas's sport tuned suspension was too much for him. What a dweeb!
If reliability matters then Honda all the way . If looks then vw wins the game .
Honda is not reliable. I've had 2 hondas
I love the atlas looks
They’re junk There’s many people already having serious issues with them
Silas McGee 3 years ago...
ll mnsr My point stands people are having issues with them they are poorly made and cheap do your research watch Scotty Kilmer and don’t listen to JD power it’s fake
Go learn the truth I will no longer reply to you
Silas McGee I could not give a rats ass I literally stated my opinion towards the aesthetics of the car and I did not state any other points referring to the reliability of it, also you care abt a random comment from 3 years ago like who fucking does that lmao
I stopped watching after you said “GD” 🤦🏻♀️. The video was very good UNTIL THEN. Highly unnecessary
"GOD DAMN SLOW"...you won me over on this review!
Atlas poor design, about 15 years old.
Honda is more reliable than VW and have better resale value.
Definitely rather have the VW
I love my 2016 Pilot... and I believe it will be cheaper to maintain than the VW.
fahed1991 I agree on how cheap it is to maintain
fahed1991
Your absolutely correct when it comes to parts and repair the pilot will cost less than WV atlas
agree, ain't nothing good or reliable come with a vw badge
The VW has a 6yr/72K mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, d-bag
Still don't see why you'll choose both over the CX-9, Sorento or Explorer. Perhaps if you really value size.
I have a Kia Sorento SXL-V6. I traded in a new Range Rover Evoque. I really wanted the Range Rover but I knew it was going to be a piece of crap and it was typical English junk. What I got with the Kia was an amazing SUV that had every luxury feature you could want, it is comfortable, reliable, rides and drives luxuriously, and honestly is the best overall SUV anyone in their right mind could want. However my lease is coming to an end soon and as much as I would be an idiot to buy anything accept another Sorento, I always get something different once my leases are up. If I was totally sane I would get another Kia or a Mazda CX-9. However, for some bizarre reason, just like the Range Rover I like VW's even though they are in all reality and historically a Nazi car company, not all that reliable- Ive had many, and there are better values as you mention. However, there's no rationality sometimes with people who love cars, trucks, SUV's and that's just the way it is sometimes. Maybe I should just go for a CX-9 and regain my sanity. We have a CX-5 also and it's a great car. Thanks for helping me think this through some more.
For most the explorer is stale having the same exterior interior for over 5 years.
Sound system? Come on, why doesn't anyone ever mention that?
I make my purchases with the sound system in mind.
That's one reason I ended up buying a Challenger over a Civic Coupe. The stereo in the Civic sucked balls!
Reliability trumps all the cons of the Pilot, and lack thereof trumps any advantage of the Atlas. After decades and decades of manufacturing, you'd think VW would have finally figured that out.
Carlos Choy please search ZF9 issues. They are replacing transmission at 3k miles. So much so they created TSBs for it.
I tried both. Volkswagen has a 6/72 bumper to bumper warranty. I had a 2013 Pilot. Nothing but trouble the last few months.
Idiotic comment. The VW has a much better warranty and the reliability is not really known yet, as it's a new model.
Pollen Applebee I didn’t say the atlas reliability was known. The warranty is and my pilot was a POS. Looking for idiots? Most who do seem to be themselves.
@@impaul41 Doesnt matter bro. It's a Honda. Goes to show how some people blindly regurgitate and have no clue what's going on. Atlas V6 is really an Inline 6 with an Aisin tranny. Isnt aisin owned by Toyota? I call this "Brand thinking".
Thumbs down for not talking about the warranty on these cars.
As a used car buyer, I looked at both of these last month. Pilot is tiny inside and the space is not as usable.
The Atlas DOES feel more like a truck than a car in the way it handles. I saw someone compare it to a Passat. No way does it handle as well as a Passat. I’ve now owned the SEL Premium versions of both (2015 Passat TDI and now a 2018 Atlas VR6). The Atlas transmission does shift a little quirky, but it is fine.
The Atlas feels good. It has a low tech power plant, and a nice interior (plastics in VW are not amazing, but good and serviceable).
I prefer VWs but even if I didn’t, I’d still acknowledge its massive interior over the Pilot.
I've just had an Atlas for a week in Mountain, coastal and flat high way driving. Also in tight old town driving. In all honesty I have decidedly NOT been an SUV person but I came away loving the Atlas. The turning radius on that beast was astonishing. The ride was a bit "sporty" but since our kids have all moved out, we didn't mind that so much and actually appreciated all the driving feedback on the twisting mountain roads. Accelerating was just fine off the line in normal mode. In sport mode it will absolutely shift if you give it the beans. The biggest gripe, and it was certainly livable for us, was the road noise. It was louder than I would have expected. The rear camera was stellar. The sound system was stellar. My wife is a waif of a thing at 4'11. The passengers set was a bit of a challenge for her as it didn't drop quite low enough for her legs to hang comfortably. I would absolutely opt for the power seat option for the passenger to fix that slight issue. I'm a larger guy at 6ft and 230 lbs. After 13 hours of constant driving I was just fine. No tailbone or leg fatigue. No arm fatigue. I would absolutely recommend the Atlas if you're looking for a larger vehicle that can carry what ever you need. In my case, my bass amps, basses and pedals. All easily stowed in the back.
Interesting, the extremes of some reviewers over others. AutoGuide - this dude says the ride is stiff and far too uncomfortable. While most other reviewers, including Consumer Reports say the ride is comfortable and quiet. I tend to believe them first. This guy says the acceleration is almost too quick and responsive but others say it could be a little faster.. The review here is just a little off center of the others and my gut tells me this is a really nice vehicle, acceleration is good not great, and ride is pretty comfortable overall. The Honda Pilot as Consumer Reports says..... handles like an apartment building on wheels.
My wife has a 2016 Pilot Touring. Why reviewers hate the unobtrusive, slick pushbutton gear selector, I cannot figure out. Also, they called it sluggish. 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds and quarter mile in 14.6 seconds according to several reviews. Just one of many great vehicles available.
The irony of this review is my wife got rid of her pilot for an atlas. The first thing we noticed was how much better the atlas rode over familiar road imperfections and bumps around town. She loves the steering and sportier feeling drive of the atlas and the tighter turning radius. We did a true side by side comparison on our test drive. The fake stitching on the dash didn’t look any different to us than the fake stitching on the pilot dash. We found the seats of the atlas very comfortable as were the pilots. However the dye on the pilot leather seats was coming off in areas that weren’t high rub in less than 70k miles which was very disappointing as I kept it up meticulously. In short, I don’t feel
Like we gave up anything making the swap with the exception of around 2mpg. Take your time looking at both if you’re in the market. Having had each one they are both great options in the segment.
You're not even comparing the same years together need the 2018 pilot to that dang Vw
And you said Finally to where Honda has been doing it for years!😊
Square shape is highly practical for most people as they don't spend much time on a highway (aerodynamics). Shame that the majority of people are suckers for sleek shapes - even for utility SUVs. That's like getting a sports car because it's boxy - makes no sense.
50K Man Van> Bull Si%^... The Atlas as tested is not a 50K (6:10 Min). MSRP as shown is $32,500 to $34,000. The Honda, Highlander, Durango, Explorer, CX-9 and Santa Fe are much more overpriced for the "Man Van" category. The VW Touareg starts at 51K. Not the Atlas.
Ride quality being bad?? Uhhhhh I test drove this, The Sub Accent, Ford Explorer, Dodge Durango, GMC terrain and this smoked all of them...
Pilot way better and reliable suv....do your homework before to buy a Atlas....very noisy, poor suspension, rattling crazy....ordinary plastic......save your money and get a better car
Stay away from VW Atlas. 3k for oil leak and 1.7 for water pump .
Battery would not charge andbwobbly rotors
I think I would choose the Cx-9 even though i really like the explorer to drive, but I cant say anything for the rest. Th cx-9 is a turbo 4 and gives it something like 6 mpg more than the Volkswagen combined
Listen!..the only Honda model vehicle that will match this German car in stability is a CBR600-1000rr, there’s no comparison with their cars to the German cars..absolutely none. FOH
Stay away from the Honda Pilot 9-speed transmission!!! Sadly their "loaded" models have it: Touring & Elite.
Miguel Herrera I have one, I see no issues with it.
I would just get a Used Durango. No hate against these cars but they are just minivans that look better. If I’m buying an SUV it better do it all and all SUVs on the market these days are just undercover minivans that drive worse. The Durango can haul kids and tow while still getting decent gas mileage and the Reliability isn’t that bad compared to other FCA products.
Even without watching this comparison ... I know autoguide will call pilot the winner because they are fanboi of Honda's .... Every comparison they have done with Honda in it has been won by Honda. So fuck this shit !
Buddy if you call the Atlas a "rough ride" I would suggest going to your doctor to get your nerves checked out dc that is WAY TOO SENSITIVE for any man or woman to be.
Not sure why insensitive language has to be a part of this car review but it’s a sad commentary on a lack of decency. If your wandering, which I’m guessing you’re not, the adjective used for the performance is what I’m alluding to.
The Atlas is a good vehicle but beware of crooked dealers.
VW good looking car but worst reliability, recall and a lot of parts issues happened on 1st year after you bought, their quality control might think it's normal , I sold my atlas and bought lexus, lexus built a great quality
Actually the Volkswagen never even crossed my mind as a car for the family. I see more than a few people driving it though.
I wonder about your complaints on the Atlas, pretty much every other car reviewer likes the things you dislike.
I try not to watch what other reviewers say and just talk about what I experienced, and think of it as your typical family buyer. From my experience, many reviewers tend to always focus on the driving dynamics above all else and the sporty ride always wins. That is just not what most people want in this segment as I see it, so I evaluate from a very practical standpoint about what these cars are typically used for and which is better at that mission.
CarCanuck Really strange he complained about the ride and automatic. Everyone else is praising it.
what sucks really is the engine
drinks a lot and feels dam slow
I think best would be a 3 ltr. Diesel here !
but thanks to USA politics and the fight against diesel, even if it is more environment friendly the Atlas get a shitty V6 gasoline engine.
www.bbc.com/autos/story/20130109-why-do-americans-not-buy-diesels
The atlas looks like a hound dog with droopy eyes. The honda looks like a dated station wagon.
that is radically right!!!! LOL.
Had both and still have the atlas. Much better vehicle. Honda is not what it use to be. Honda has big transmission problems. Stay away from them. Ease of driving and size VW Atlas.
Rear entertainment system? You mean the one from 2007? What the hell, get real guys. It's called iPad holders for the kids. Watching that man clapping child on too much adderall was strange and slightly disturbing.
“God Damn Slow” really!! Where did that come from?! Very offensive and unnecessary!
The newest Pilot is ugly. The second generation was the best looking iteration of the model. It looks like a bloated, short minivan type piece of crap.
VW hands down. If you need to make a quick move because of some idiot on the interstate, a sluggish pedal will get you killed.
Hi!!!! What about Pilot X Ascent? ;-)
Stick with an Pilot EX-L and pass on Sensing. You also avoid that stupid 9 speed & get a proper gear selector.
When it come to which one is more reliable , nothing compares to HONDA 👏
This guy spends 12 minutes describing how the Atlas is superior in nearly all categories and then picks the Honda as his winner. He also neglected to mention that the Atlas has higher ground clearance than the Pilot. And am I the only one who thinks the color of the Atlas test vehicle was hideous? Ugh!
Geezed Out are you going rock crawling with the 8 passenger SUV? Also, this is the envailing color for vw so blame vw.
Imma Turkey - Who said anything about doing rock crawling? I just think that most people, who are considering vehicles with an AWD option like the Atlas or Pilot, might be interested in knowing the ground clearance. And since he was comparing both vehicles it might have been a category to consider. As far as the color of the Atlas, I made that comment because I didn't see anyone else in the comments section raise the color issue. I was just wondering if anyone disliked it as much as I did.
The resale value will tell.
Resale value is only good based what someone is ready to pay for.
you got to relax your eyebrows bro
The color of the atlas is hideous.
Smh..
Don’t even need to watch the video to make a logical Conclusion Hondas better made better looks better more reliable no exceptions no questions asked done
Ted Cruz is a car reviewer now?
Love the way they roll out every single anti-VW cliche in the f***in book in the intro. Nothing like starting out on a fair and objective footing!
The Atlas is ranked #3 and the Pilot is ranked #11. Both have their pros and cons.
Rough ride in the Atlas ? Not my experience at all.
it seems that this guy is in love with pilot. Pointless review
He had a boner for the pilot but decided to bash the one good thing about it. The pilot has the best 0 to 60 time in it's class without a turbo. I'm an Atlas owner and I'll be the first to say the pilot is faster, not nicer but def faster
Wtf you talking about. The atlas drives way smooth.
Huh that’s funny I watched a lot of videos on the atlas and they all said it rode very smooth and went over bumps very well idk
VW
VW elegant and subdued. Won´t look dated in 10 years.
How is the Pilot slow? It’s one of the quickest in the class and certainly a lot quicker than the Atlas.
Why does it even matter. None are race machines. They're family cars. Want to take off like a bullet, buy a 100K models S.
Every Atlas owner in the world is laughing out loud to tears after seen this video
People who say Volkswagen was crap lost their life.
It’s German it’s suppose to be a driver car not a mushy boring ride.
LOL. Everyone, go to 10:10 ... seriously. Solid gold.
