PPS Is Progressive Power Steering. When you increase in speed, the steering feel progressively gets harder. i've never seen a setting for it. What were the adjustments?? didnt come out well in the video.
Saw one of this (not sure about the generation) on the street of Hong Kong. The owner took really care of it and even decorated the interior with a local taxi equipment! I really want to own one too!
I think most car makers got away from water to air intercooling is because it is more complex andhas more working parts, which means that it will be more expensive to build and maintain. The water to air intercoolers are also more prone to heat soak and that's why they are typically not used in continuous racing.
Very nice videos. The Toyota Cressida was a popular Taxi Car in Japan and other Asian countries, including in Hong Kong in the 1980's, can see those in Jacky Chan movies. These were like what Chevy Caprice Yellow Taxi cabs were in US.
Wow! Such a cool car! I love these 80s boxy cars, but you probably already knew that. ;) The 1G-GEU engine has almost the same design as the 4A-GE. Toyota designed the G and A series alongside each other and Yamaha first did the DOHC and tvis on the 1G before applying the same in the 4A. Later on they redeveloped the 1G to a twin turbo (af supercharged), while the 4A went the supercharged path. But in contrary to many believes, the 4A-GE isn't a 1G-GEU where Toyota chopped two cylinders off.
Love this!!! The rear windows are awesome as you mention. And the Technics speakers are a great feature. I don't get Toyota's obsession with burgundy interiors either. My 85 Supra had the exact same with the same seat design. Most comfy you'll ever sit in! Thanks for sharing.
My neighbour still has a similar Mark2 twinturbo. Gorgeous one. Gangsters here used to drive these ones in 1990th. Especially, Mark2 with black rear columns (or how to call it?). The trunk-lock cap... We used to steal them and put'em on a keyring. 😅 Saggy nets on a back of a front seat - all of them've been saggy sinse the middle of 90th. :-) Awesome cars. Just awesome...
Wow, another awesome 80s Toyota! It seems all the really cool cars the Japanese kept to themselves, and then just sent lower-spec cars to the U.S, haha. Love how original this one is, I'm sure it's not hard to find that many of these stocks. New owner is very lucky!
WestSide1207 . They sent us the lower spec cars and even those were better than most domestic. Imagine if they had sent their top product here . Our domestic manufacturers would have had to get bailed out 15-20 yrs sooner or build a better product
Probably true, but maybe if they had brought these kind of cars, will all the advanced gadgets and features, it may have forced the U.S manufacturers to up their game and really start to innovate their own product.
keep in mind regulations were & are quite different..it is much cheaper to flood their home market with so many different cars, kei cars especially..and plus American tastes are very different from Asian, let alone Japanese consumers preferences.. There have been a lot of examples of amazing cars from Japan that just didn't get the right amount of sales here whether it was the SVX or even something like a XRS Corolla.. unfortunately the us is arguably the most brand conscious/biased country in the world..
WestSide1207 while lower spec cars may have been sent abroad, I'm not sure it's all to be mean to non Japanese customers. Remember that these Nippon manufacturers almost took over the car world. Rules were invented to protect a countries own industries, especially after the demise of British car industry, America and Germany panicked, which Japan broke by making so much better cars. So I'm sure there are a lot of politics involved here. See the only good program Clarkson of Top Gear ever made (according to me), "How Japan took over the world, and lost it" and you get a part of the truth (never expect Clarkson to get it all right). Nissan alone have at times helped advance American and British car development ....bah this comment turned out too long. Your post was interesting and I wanted to add some notes. Have a good day all.
WestSide1207 The Cressida we got in the US was a fantastic car. No worse than the JDM ones and we got bigger, more powerful engines too. Way better than the junkers the big 3 were building
Hey Derrick, if you export the audio from the video you can do noise reduction with a free program called Audacity by isolating a clip where you are not talking (it's hard to explain, a tutorial would be much better help than I could ever be) I know the season only lasts for 2 months but it could possibly stop people from complaining.
EmuPlays Derek have talked about this in the past, and the problem is simple, there is really little time for any editing. Maybe in the future he can hire a guy that knows these stuff and also restart Drive Japan to great success. But the guy is working from early mornings till midnight as it is already (he explained this in some older videos). But if he could get a video guy I think he still have some cool ideas he could use to create some more cool content and as you suggest, improve already good videos. Have a nice day.
PPS stands for what i think is progressive power steering but i didnt think that was introduced until the late 80s Toyotas (reason i know is because i own an a70 supra)
These look amazing in the metallic brown/gold and they come with the brown interior, low as a coilover will go on deep dish period correct SSR mesh… Wood Nardi Classic steering wheel
What engine did the UK cressida have? I was loaned one from a garage on a X reg , but I have looked under the bonnet! But it was faster than a Ford Capri 2.8i
Looks like it's time for a cooling system flushout and refill. There's visible evidence of a nasty, rusty puke from the overflow on the stuff around the bottle and on the inner fender on that side. Otherwise, such a nice clean example of an 80s Toyota!
I think this was the 3rd member of the Toyota Triplets The mark ii and chaser and the cresta also the Corolla and Sprinter and Tercel and Starlet and Yaris
No, only the "GT" models. This was the top-of-the-line engine for the X70 range: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Cresta#X70_series_.281984.E2.80.931988.29
Most (na) cars that puff blue smoke on startup mean the valve guides have wear. If this is the case oil consumption would be negligible to the point of undetectable between oil changes
I love these old toyotas. Back home in Trinidad we only got the Cressida. They were very popular cars back in the day. Would love to have one of these

Gotta be a qualified Yakuza to drive something this classy.

its late 1970s-1980s colour, my grandpa SD1 and 1980s Honda accord of the same era has those ugly turd brownish burgundy colour
PPS is progressive power steering.
Thanks
PPS- Progressive power steering.
You know when you look up the Wikipedia page on Japanese license plates, the sample images of plates read 46-49? Same plates in the Cresta.
Such a cool and wonderful car. From exterior lines to interior!
My mom use to own one I love it! Gonna buy one of those in the future.
My neighbour still has a similar Mark2 twinturbo. Gorgeous one.

I don't know but Toyotas in the 80s and 90s (at least the mid-to-upper priced vehicles) seem to be better built than Toyotas of today...
PPS stands for what i think is progressive power steering but i didnt think that was introduced until the late 80s Toyotas (reason i know is because i own an a70 supra)
Awesome car Derek, I would love to get one like this from you sometime. One day maybe I can dream can't I :-P
Don't dream, just do it. On the other hand if you are 12 year old millenial kiddy, that might be a problem. ;)
All the old Cressida's are just about gone here in the U.S At least here on the East coast. Good to see a like car in such good shape!
What's underneath the steering wheel? 12:13
Я впервые увидел, что на этих сиденьях регулируется ещё и боковая поддержка. Шикарное авто и очень редкая комплектация.

Otherwise, such a nice clean example of an 80s Toyota!
Wow great car

You don't have to be rich to own one. ^^
I think this was the 3rd member of the Toyota Triplets
The mark ii and chaser and the cresta
also the Corolla and Sprinter and Tercel and Starlet and Yaris
GM uses air to water coolers with the supercharged engines.
all of these came with the twin turbo?
