Man, this car is great. In Costa Rica we used to have Toyota Crown for Taxis up until 1987. They had 4 and 6 cylinder diesel engines that lasted a million kilometers, then we had the Cressidas that were nice also. Not anymore. Toyotas are becoming very expensive to be bought by taxi drivers. Great cars from an era past.
Saw alot of this when I went to Japan. We stayed at one of the hotel in Tokyo parked there every morning and got excited to actually look at it for the first time. tbh, I've always interested in Toyota Century and I know what kind of car it is. Ferrying CEOs, ministers and royals. It's like a Japanese Rolls Royce, but wearing a suit instead of tuxedo.
SO MANY THANGS FOR THE GLAMOROUS BUSINESS LIFE YOU KNOW WHAT THIS CAR MEAN? IT MEANS I WORK HARD I PLAY HARD LETS CLICK THAT SPORT BUTTON SO I CAN DRIVE MY TOYOTA CENTURY REALLY FAST
Rahul vinal Narayan This guy really doesnt seem to know much at all about cars. typical salesperson lol. Umm it looks like American cars because they looked good back then. Tired of the ignorant statements....caddys had the soft touch trunk closers WAY WAY BACK. Like he is giving compliments on the easy numb steering but if it wouldve been an American car he would have been putting it down. Btw, that digital dash looks like it came from a 1980s buick.... Also, just being Japanese does not guarantee its gonna be more reliable. Ill accept that being a CENTURY will make it more reliable but NOT simply because its JDM. most US cars were very well built till abot 1973 or so. I understand youbare a fan of JDMs but it shows in your presentation that you are utterly biased. That said, really really cool cars. I have a soft spot for old J tin......would love to get an old cedric or gloria someday.
Almost all wearable parts (engine gaskets, suspension joint and bush and all the shocks) are no longer available from Toyota for the VG40, they are even becoming challenging to maintain in Japan.
Have a 2000 V12 Century on a boat to British Columbia as I type... will be in my garage and on the road in less than 2 weeks assuming all goes well. Very interesting for you to go through this older model! There's little detail on these fascinating cars online and every bit of new information helps with the waiting process. Enjoy your videos very much- keep up the great work.
+yamanote That is very cool. You will have to send me your impressions on the 2000 model year. I love how the styling didn't try to become too modern as the car got newer. The only Centurys I see are in parking lots. I never see them on the road.
+yamanote I went with the older model because here in the US we have the stupid 25 year ban. This one will be up for sale when it gets here. I am patiently waiting until the v12 becomes legal to purchase one for myself. Also If you need parts, please let me know. I have some connections on locating parts for these cars in Japan. Good luck with your Century.
+PacificCoastAuto For sure, I will try to put up a video of it once it gets here and I figure out what's what. I can't promise it'll be as detailed as your videos though! I saw plenty of Centurys around the financial areas of Tokyo as well as around posh hotels, all of which looked newer (of course, a well kept older one looks all but identical to a brand new one, so I can't be sure!). I wonder if they fall into the same state of neglect and disrepair that older S-Classes or 7-series tend to as their initial owners move on. I guess the strict shaken system in Japan would keep most away from these as they get older, as well as the hefty registration tax on a 5 litre vehicle.
+DiVirgilio Imports Thank you, good luck with your Century too! The brownish red is a very unique color... it's too bad the newer V12 ones only come in various shades of grey. And we lose the power quarter windows in the new generation too. Let me know how I can get in touch with you. There are several parts I'm looking for (perhaps from wreckers or junkyards in Japan?), but would prefer not to pay full retail for a new piece.
Derek, at 18:50 there is the latch I was telling you about where the middle of the passenger seat will lean back and create an even bridge to the rear passenger seat allowing the rear passenger to stretch their legs all the way through the hole. Hence the reason why you have the capability of moving the seat back and forth from the rear.
+DiVirgilio Imports Very cool. I did not notice. I uploaded four cars at the same time to the channel and Naoko and I both guessed which car would make the most traffic. I guessed this car but I was sadly wrong. It is fourth place after two Skyline GT-Rs and an AE86. Sports cars take all the glory but this car is the most interesting to me. I actually want one now after seeing it.
If this car was sold in the United States in the 1990s with all the options on the car in the video, it would have easily became a symbol to hip hop because of its classy looks, elegance, price tag, and the tape recorder in the back. Too bad it was never sold in the US though
NO WAY has this car done 40k km. The odometer is obviously on its second (or third!) round or it's been messed with. Centuries are made like tanks and having so many electrical faults shows that it's much older than it shows. Great car. MUCH better than the S-Class or BMW 7 or Audi 8 by miles. And it's for one simple reason - the car is built to be comfortable for the owner, NOT just a collection of "features" to make it sell to an oligarch. I want to say I wish Toyota sold it in the rest of the world, but then they'd produce it in UK or US, and the quality will be ruined.
The century is a car for important people. In case one bank of the V8 engine fails while driving, the other one can still run. In order to do that, it is equipped with two ignition coils.
The sound "BBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!" somewhere in a region of the front bumper should be the sound of the air compressor. It usually fills the system very slowly... Why didn't you pull the handle on a back of a left front seat? Go & check it. I won't tell you what will (or should) it do, but if that current car has exactly that feature - you will smile. :-) I do love old Japanese devices and cars for such a hidden features. Of course, the language barrier does it's bad business, but sometimes there can be some illogical things that turn to be very good things. Another cap, covering some buttons. Another button which can do something new when pressed for 2 seconds. :-)
looks like a combination of Mercedes and 70s Dodge and Chrysler and a Little of the ZIL 114, really the quality of the Century its good i love the car! i imagine the experience of having one
The W100 Mercedes is comparable in awesomeness, quirky features and quality as the Century. Since the passing of the W126, Mercedes totally lost its way.
Excellent car! I always seem to see these in The Ginza...always black...always grandpa seat covers and always with the curtains closed. I imagine Celine Dion riding in the back of one of these.
That kind of electric "spinning" side vents shown ca at 5 mins were standard in the mid-late 60s Chrysler Imperial and probably in a few other U.S high end cars. But this Century is basically a 60s car.
This is a REALLY cool video but did go on a while so I had to stop it finally. As a side note, a little tip: you may want to consider taking some cues from Doug DeMuro, who goes through a lot of the features and quirks of a car, etc. but does it VERY quickly (and keeps his videos very tight and to the point). This is not to belittle the work that you do, but just tips on how you might want to improve the presentations.
Neat car, Back then Toyota went out of their way to prove a point to their European counterparts with Loaded equipment specs and good build quality. Sadly those days are gone.
sounds like you put some money into a new air bag suspension and convert to an GM V8 and transmission (since parts would be nearly impossible to import for this car) and you'd have a very good prestigious cruiser.
I can't believe that this was Toyota's flagship sedan of the day and the interior looks mediocre. But I guess that Japanese engineering culture (which seems to value reliability) has different tastes than, say, German engineering culture (which seems to value refinement) or ultra-luxury car culture with the Rolls Royce and Bentley brands (which, obviously, values fanciness).
lu saelee Thanks for the info! I've read that many American cars went through seemingly little changes in the 1970's (perhaps becuase of fuel shortages), and the Japanese emperor's old car, the Nissan Prince Royal, was from the 1960's.
The Japanese don't like the squeakyness of leather that's why most century's have cloth trim. I'm pretty sure it's a high grade wool tbh. I guess it's a culture thing like you said.
+Rony Spec The Century buyer wants the classic and non-ostentacious look of older cars. They don't want to stand out. Check out the current Century... it still kind of looks 1960s... but in a 2015 way.
Thankyou for the reply bro appreciate it and yeah thats right they all look old school. P.s i love your videos and watch every new one you upload. keep up the good work and god bless.
That brown paint. THAT VELOUR.
I need one of these in my life.
My dream car! Almost like 70's full size American, but reliable.
I think everyone watched to the 20 minute mark, car is amazing, one of the best you have done.
I've always loved these old-school JDM Japanese cars.
That has to be one of the coolest cars you have exported. So much interior details.
I love how it has that mafia look to it
+ravesilly yakuza*
StepHop5 Well played and thank you
+ravesilly Many people avoid this car on the road. Some important humans or Yakuza often use it. So scary, lol.
mafia just means organised crime
The left seat can open! Forgot to show that.
I was about to say that lol Good Game sir
definitely a unique vehicle...the new owner will have a lot of attention with this here in the US. I love cars like this

That burgundy color is so boss. I just reviewed my 1992 Century from Japan myself. The import was easy. Thanks for this upload PCA.
this car was build just one year before the Japanese Asset Price Bubble.
It's not a Crown. It's a Century. Crowns are for plant managers to drive. Centurys are what the CEO is chauffeured in.
Saw alot of this when I went to Japan. regular car reviews you brought me here :-)
Regular car reviews is an excellent channel.

YOU KNOW WHAT THIS CAR MEAN?
IT MEANS I WORK HARD I PLAY HARD
LETS CLICK THAT SPORT BUTTON SO I CAN DRIVE MY TOYOTA CENTURY REALLY FAST
SPORT POWER
It means your caps lock key is broken.
I vote Sunday question cast using rear tape deck for recording and playback of questions.
+Nismo GTR It would be cool but sadly, I have not done a question cast of the last two weeks. I will get one done today though.
+PacificCoastAuto this is not a 1990 model. It is an older model

id imagine this belongs to someone in yakuza hahaha
Nice looking car, but it's *not* a Toyota Crown. It's a Toyota Century. There's a difference between the two.
Apparently the narrator didn't notice his mistake during the making of this video.
+TRUCK LKW CAMION
0:10 listen.
Didn't it say century on the back at 6 minutes in?

I'd take this over a modern luxury car.

Yes; in fact they are still made to this day with that feature.
+PacificCoastAuto I am waiting until the 1997 model is legal to import my own Century with the v12 motor.
Totally ART.

imperials from the late 60s also had power quarter windows .didnt some have v12s?
thank you for going through all the details. greatly appreciated
Someone i know is getting a 1990 Toyota Century in the US :D
Best Car Ever on here.
Lexus LS models also took what you refer to as "swing vents" into production and I believe still use them.
NO WAY has this car done 40k km. The odometer is obviously on its second (or third!) round or it's been messed with. The front passanger seat can be opened for you to stick your legs thrue it. You have not showed that in the video.
those wing windows are something else

My 1978 Eldorado has that trunk closer too!!
I'd buy one. This looks like Toyota's version of the Mercedes-Benz 600. :)
Wow you can tape record in a classic Toyota Century! I wonder how many rappers have come out with a mix tape in the back of those things...
None because rappers that make mix tapes don't have money to buy these amazing machines
You're definitely right that these are amazing machines
what would it cost to be shipped to california?
I heard the California DMV is a lot stricter than other states
Great walk around, lots to talk about ,amazing car.
Amazing pick up Derek !
That is pure 90s glitz! I like it!
CONGRATULATION for your CAR FROM 100%JAPAN.
looks like a combination of Mercedes and 70s Dodge and Chrysler and a Little of the ZIL 114, really the quality of the Century its good i love the car! i imagine the experience of having one
That tape deck though...
The S class cannot hold a candle to it, even today.
The W100 Mercedes is comparable in awesomeness, quirky features and quality as the Century. Since the passing of the W126, Mercedes totally lost its way.
its far more advanced than S class and Bmw 7 series from this age
I've never seen or heard of this cool looking car!! nice!!! real nice!!!
Awesome...i love japanese cars..i have a old Toyota
What an awesome car! Video was not too long at all.
is not ‘turkey’,is a japanese royal symbol,the three-legged crow
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-legged_crow
What the fuck is that after market radio?
Excellent car! I always seem to see these in The Ginza...always black...always grandpa seat covers and always with the curtains closed. I imagine Celine Dion riding in the back of one of these.
lol yes i saw the whole video includind the curtain hook thingy but no curtains
the recorder is actually to record business conversations. or perhaps yakuza conversation

What a cool and interesting toyota
That is an amazing car , how much do you have to pay for a Century ?
It's like a Lincoln Town Car. I have a 95.. kinda similar.
Watched it all, what a cool car!
This is a REALLY cool video but did go on a while so I had to stop it finally.

Thanks, Bro!
Hey the master cylinder is on the driver side,
That's a badass car. Wonder why it was never brought here.......
Nice car :) lots of cool features
This is so weird. These 90s Japanese luxury cars all look like they were made in the 60s.
i agree
And that's exactly what is so cool about them.
The design stayed the same since '67 to '97
Bradley Davis that's exactly what I was going to comment lol
They wanted to keep there same design from the 60s
Who is here from RCR Buick century video?
Toyota Century the 2018 is beautiful
Neat car, Back then Toyota went out of their way to prove a point to their European counterparts with Loaded equipment specs and good build quality. Sadly those days are gone.
just wow! love it!
Do you come across many of these?
My -87 supra had TEMS. I was 18 and couldnt figure out how to fix it :D
This car is phenomenal. Rolls ROYCE JAPONESES.
very cool interior!!
indeed it's an exceptional car
really cool car and video!
sounds like you put some money into a new air bag suspension and convert to an GM V8 and transmission (since parts would be nearly impossible to import for this car) and you'd have a very good prestigious cruiser.
This car has a turkey symbol lol my favorite line ever
I love classic cars such as Mercedes w126 w140 Toyota crown and also century by the way the creature in the car is a phoenix not turkey
in australia we had the Toyota Corona witch i think was the Australian / New Zealand name for the Toyota Crown
i dont know - i think corona is the aus name for crown
Nope! The Corona is completely different car, it is smaller and was a low grade model from Toyota. It was located between Corolla and Cressida.
Australia had Corolla, Corona, Cressida & Crown.
Man this car is so awesome and unique. This would so dope done up VIP style. Dropped with wheels and exhaust and tints. Fucking pimp~
Much better and advanced than Bmw 7 and S class from this age
Do you still have this car?
How much costs a car like this?
0:11 this is century not crown
7:20 V12 engine? this type is V8 engine only
He stated that...
Hey can u upload videos of dr30s or evo 1 , 2 or 3 that will be nice
hOW CAN i DECIDE IF IT IS VALUE FOR MONEY IF YOU DONT SAY THE PRICE???
I wish toyota did something crazy today.
Yakuza must have designed this. looks gangsta
SO NICE
Do you live in japan?
I can't believe that this was Toyota's flagship sedan of the day and the interior looks mediocre. But I guess that Japanese engineering culture (which seems to value reliability) has different tastes than, say, German engineering culture (which seems to value refinement) or ultra-luxury car culture with the Rolls Royce and Bentley brands (which, obviously, values fanciness).
well the century wasnt redesigned til 1997. the first generation lasted from the 60s til 1997. so that probably explains why it looks dated
lu saelee Thanks for the info! I've read that many American cars went through seemingly little changes in the 1970's (perhaps becuase of fuel shortages), and the Japanese emperor's old car, the Nissan Prince Royal, was from the 1960's.

I wanted an exhaust sound... i'm curious
+Doge Fujiwara Sorry, I wanted to but got distracted by awesomeness.
Understandable xD
need this car in black
Another beautiful Toyota. It's an unforgivable shame that it was never sold here in the USA, not even in limited production.
Crown? Are you sure?
That's a Century!
I want one for here in the UK.
i am surprised with all these features it does not have a sunroof...
i saw this car on I-65 in alabama on back of a truck
can someone tell me why its got that early 80's look? thanks.
+Rony Spec Thanks Rony, I appreciate the kind words.
TOYOTA'S CENTURY, president and crown.
