We just returned last week from a 12 day Alaska/Yukon Excursion & Cruise and took the WP &YR trip out of Skagway and weren't disappointed - really enjoyed your video reminiscing our train trip. We also took the McKinley Explorer Dome train out of Anchorage to Denali which is also very scenic and historic.
Hi and thank you for your comment and watching our video. We are glad you enjoyed it. We also took the train to Denali way back in 2007 and really enjoyed it. Happy Cruising!
Thank you so much for watching and for your comment. Alaska is wonderful, please feel free to ask any questions pre-cruise or share any thoughts with us post cruise. Happy cruising!
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. It is sad that the bridge is no longer in use, but the new route has some great views of the old bridge. Happy cruising!

Taking the train for second time first week of Sept on our 4th trip back to Alaska. Last time was in 2000! Wonder what if anything has changed. We sail HAL and enjoy their service. Thanks for sharing.
That is so cool. It is always fun to return to terrific places. We would love to hear what differences you notice. We have sailed on several cruise lines, but we have just booked our first HAL cruise - Buenos Aires to Fort Lauderdale by sailing around Patagonia and thru the Panama Canal. Thank you for sharing enjoying HAL's service. We cannot wait to experience it. Happy Cruising!

@@ACruisingGoodTime ok. Told you I would get back with you and here is my experience. Back from our Sept 2024 Alaska cruise. I booked the Luxury category for the White Pass Train not really knowing what it was all about. It was the last car on the line. What an awesome experience. I would highly recommend this category of travel. Max of 18 passengers, each having 360 degree swivel very comfortable chairs. 1 crew member narrating the entire trip. By the way he too was awesome always giving us a warning before arriving at a special spot to take pictures. Sandwiches, wine, soda, water, orange juice, ALL you can eat / drink. The best part for me as a photographer was being able to walk out on the back deck and not only stand, but get awesome shots of the trip. No other cars offered this. Some may say that all this is not needed, and I can see their point. Just being very comfortable for the 3 hr trip is what made it great. Last time, (2000) my back was killing me after the ride. So I was really happy to see our seats.
Thank you so much for sharing the details of your Luxury category on the White Pass Train! Your trip sounds amazing. We may try that next time we are in Skagway. Happy Cruising!
Thanks for this comment! We are planning are trip and I was wondering why would I spend the extra money on the luxury ride. I see how it would be easy on are backs!
Great video! I will be doing the Yukon Expedition & White Pass Scenic Railway excursion in Skagway in August. It is 8.25 hours long, and the description says "travel the Klondike Highway by motorcoach, over the White Pass Summit.....aboard the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad." The description also states for the way back, board the White Pass & Yukon Railroad vintage train cars for a 27 mile journey. So I am thinking a bus on the way up and train on the way back? So sit on the right side of the train? Thanks again for your informative video!!
Hi and thank you for your comment. We look forward to them each week. In that case the right side is best because you are making the one way trip down the valley. Happy cruising!
Hi. Thank you for watching and leaving some comments! The tour we took for this was the Whitepass and Scenic Railway on Princess that goes up to the summit in Canada and returns. We have not done the luxury version but we may do so in the future. It’s the same train, but with nicer chairs and food and drink are included. If you do it, please let us know your thoughts. Thanks for watching and happy cruising
Hi. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. We think the left side is better because you get the views looking up the valley. But right side gets a great view on the return so you can’t go wrong either way. Happy cruising!
Just got off quantum on memorial day. They cancelled skagway because of dock trouble. We went to icy strait point instead. My wife and I were upset about not going on the train
We are going on the White Pass Scenic Railway excursion this August. We missed Skagway on our last Alaska cruise in 2022 due to the rock slides at our berth. We are really looking forward to this adventure - fingers crossed we make it this time. Questions… Does the train go into Canada? And, if so, how far? Just to turn around? Thanks for sharing your video.
Hi and we are always glad to hear from you. Yes there are some that go all the way up to Dawson. Our, like most went to the pass summit in Canada and turned around to return to Skagway. Thanks again for watching.
A minor correction: The high bridge was taken out of service in 1969, when the railroad bought heavier locomotives to handle heavier trains during the mining boom in the Yukon.
I’ve booked this for my mom and myself for September. What’s the weather like that time of year? And this is probably the 6th video I’ve seen that gives the tip to sit on the left. Does everyone fight for the seats or is it still a well kept secret? Thanks for the video
Thank you for your comment. We have always bought ticket thru the cruise line so we board adjacent to where the ship is docked and before the train stops at the train depot in town. It has always been very easy for us to find a seat on the left. Seating has been orderly and I have not seen anyone looking frustrated in the boarding process. I have attached one of our videos which has information on Alaskan weather. It sounds like you are very prepared and already plan to dress in layers and ensure you have a rain retardant layer for your outer clothing. We have other videos about cruising in Alaska in our channel. I hope you love your Alaskan cruise as much as I have. ruclips.net/video/XDLE1g6V_q8/видео.html
@@ACruisingGoodTime I also booked through the ship. Good to know that good seats most likely won’t be scarce. She has a hard time walking long distances. I’m worried about the Mendenhall Glacier Explorer tour I booked. Lol
Mendenhall is easy with the visitors center next to the parking lot where the tour buses drop you off. The hike down to nugget falls is probably difficult for someone with difficulty walking. Here is our video from our last Juneau visit. Juneau, Alaska best Shore Excursion on an Alaska Cruise. Foodie, Whales, Glaciers ruclips.net/video/kulfKMZRm7k/видео.html Happy cruising!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about NCL. It is very interesting that NCL has such a big mark-up for an excursion that is so easy to do on your own. Happy Cruising!
We agree the Steam Loco would be best, but it seems to be more difficult to schedule. We definitely want to do that sometime. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Happy cruising.

Great time on the White Pass Railroad

We took the railroad July 2nd and absolutely loved it
Thanks for sharing. It is a great time!

Me too!
Thanks!

Loved the ride on the railroad. Foggy going up, sunny on the return trip
Hi, Thanks for watching. We are glad the fog broke so you could see the beautiful scenery! Happy cruising!
What a cool train!
Thank you for your comment. It is a very fun shore excursion. Thanks for watching.
Great recommendations for Skagway.
Thank you so much for your comment. Happy cruising!
love your necklace!
Thank you!! It was a gift from Jeff. Happy Cruising!
A bit sad to see the steel bridge at 6:48 is no longer intact like it was when I went in 2002.

Where did you purchase the fish and chips?
I need to look back at our notes and raw video. It was a local place recommended by the train conductor.

1 more question Is the luxury excursions worth it?

Right or left seat is the best? Looks like left side is best.

It’s $199 pp for almost 3 hrs via NCL Encore vs. $150 direct from train website…

Ride the steam powered train, not the diesel.
