She was the best! I saw her years ago when I went to the Merv Griffin Show. So funny, yet at the same time she came across as just a nice person. I still miss her talent and the way she made me laugh at a time in my life when I sure needed to laugh. I was barely in my teens but she made a wonderful impression. Miss you much, Totie.

I remember Totie Fields very dearly! She was my Mom and dad's favorite commedian; a short loud pushy broad. And in the 70's when Totie lost her leg, she almost made it to sainthood in my mom's book, since she had the same handicap. Amazing how someone can have a peripheral impact on your life!

thisclip was a reminder of the comedic gifts of Miss Totie Fields. She was one of a handful of women so talented in the 60's that male promoters and bookers actually forgot her gender and employed her in a time when everyone knew that women could not do stand-up. For a decade it was her, Phyllis Diller in Vegas, Minnie Pearl in Nashville . Before that, there was only Moms Mabley doing Harlem and the Chitlin circuit . Totie could not be kept down

I did not know how lucky I was in the early 1960s to see Mom’s Mabley and Totie Fields on the Mike Douglas Show. The talent!! Totie never got the big, big stage like Rivers did, but boy, she tore it up in those babydoll dresses and laid a path for women. Respect!

I'm BLOWN AWAY by her voice, too! I didn't remember that at all! I just thought that she was always a class act - and a fabulously funny woman ....and sadly a woman who was beset with such health problems. I will always remember how Merv Griffin always welcomed her to his show. RIP indeed, dear Totie!

    Oh I remember Totie 🤗
Especially when she was on Ed Sullivan, throughout the 60s & 70s, Merv Griffin, Carol Burnett, Etc!!
I’m just a young woman of 60, 😉, (with an “old soul”) who was blessed to have an awesome grandmother, who would let me stay up and watch the Best Ever (Variety/Comedy, Etc.) TV with her! was between (7-12) when she “babysat,” or I often slept at her house!!
Many years later, I vividly remember watching, Totie’s 1978 Come-Back Concert, when seemed like All of “Classic” Comedy Royalty, & Many of Hollywood Royalty, as well, showing up for Totie, on her first show back!! at the “Sahara Hotel & Casino,”
which just happened to be taped for HBO, in 1977.
Totie, who had survived, breast cancer, complications from 2 heart attacks, complications after leg surgery to remove a blood clot, which led to her left leg amputation. All of these health issues happened within 3-5 years before her 1977 HBO Special Comeback, which she bravely, and hilariously, incorporated into her act, just as she had previously done with her weight issues, in her years before her recent health issues.
    (Check it out con RUclips!)
Health issues, especially as severe as hers were, which Totie Indeed survived, through Many miracles, indeed changed Totie’s act, but I thought she was even more funny, and touching!
Sadly, about a year later , sensational, hilarious, poignant, brave, and awesome come back, and just before another show at the Sahara, yet another blood clot shot to Totie’s heart, caused a fatal heart attack, and at only 48 years old, Totie, suddenly, passed away.
Thankfully These Memories Will Live On, Through You All, You Tubers, Who Celebrate These Lives!!
    Trivia You may Know:
Totie was not only a talented, hilarious, down to earth, just plain funny lady, she was also a hugely talented singer!!
