Just updated our 3-week stay in Niseko to 10 days, added a few days in Sapporo & a week in Asahikawa because of this video & saved a bunch of money while visiting more resorts. Great information. Very stoked.
Nice! Sounds like a sick trip. Enjoy!
Certainly useful video on Japan skiing! Made already a nice draft for probable trip to Japan in February. Grüsse vom Erlangen, danke dir, Servus!
we need that Nagano video! Im heading there this january so exicted
Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I would love to see more detail about how to link in transport when staying at cities you’ve recommended. Thanks again, Scott.
Great video, dying to go to Japan and try the pow! Would love an equivalent video for Austria, I'm really struggling to find somewhere cheap and happening but easy to get to the slopes!
Seconded for an austria equivalent video! Would be amazing.
BTW I stayed in Nagano this January and was super happy with it - and the public transport links to shiga kogen, nozawa, myoko and madarao were all fine, I didnt need a car at all
Excellent video. You hit the nail quite perfectly on the head re finding affordable accommodation near ski resorts in Japan. If people are interested in a less travelled part of Japan then I would recommend Morioka City, which is a fantastic, little city in Tohoku. In winter it offers pretty affordable accommodation and is within ninety minutes of Appi Kogen and Geto Kogen, which are two of the best ski resorts in Tohoku. There are also numerous other smaller resorts within an hour.
Thanks for the tip! That area is actually on my list for my next trip. Will check it out for sure. Cheers!
@@TheSlipperySlope If you do head to Tohoku then also try Hakkoda Ropeway near Aomori City. It is very good, especially if the weather is clear. I absolutely love Tohoku, but I want to stress that Hokkaido and Nagano are better. Have fun.
Great info .. nice graphics!
Thanks 😉
Great info. Planning a trip there in January from N. America. Resorts here have priced me out.
A video on ski resorts accessible from Nagano (without a car) would be amazing - we are staying in Nagano for 5 nights in January 2025 and currently looking at day trip ski options!
I second this. It seems that Nagano might be a jem to check out a bunch of different areas on the same trip.
Awesome video! Thanks for the tips. I went to Myoko last season and loved it. Planning on going back to Nagano and also Hokkaido this season, so your suggestions will definitely help me plan my trips :)
Love the info!!!
Great video! Loved it! I’m planning a trip to Japan and I’d appreciate if you could film a video explaining the off piste policy in Japan (is it allowed? What are the best resorts? Does ski patrol do avalanche control? Thank you!
There’s some info in my comparison video. However, the off-piste policy can vary hugely from resort to resort, so it’s hard to generalize.
@@TheSlipperySlope Thanks, noted! I’ll take a look at the video!
Great Video! Where would you do a ski season?
Probably Nozawa Onsen for Honshu and Furano for Hokkaido.
Wow, this video came just in time and with the right topic covered, too.
Do you think it's feasible to drive out of Sapporo / Asahikawa every day? I want to make the most out of my stay in Japan and driving an hour forth AND back every day doesn't sound too appealing, especially after an exhausting pow day.
Also, how's the parking situation like in these two cities? Free parking with the hotel room?
We usually paid like 10$ for 24h parking in the city.
Ideally you go to all 3 cities in Hokkaido, chasing the pow. Least amount of driving will be from Otaru as you can be in Kiroro and Kokusai within half an hour.
Not going to lie your Japanese is super impressive how long have you been learning?
Thanks. Considering how long I’ve been at it, it’s actually still pretty basic 🙈
I think Morioka and Aomori would be good cities to add to that list. Lots of under the radar areas with great snow in Tohoku.
Yeah, they’re on my list for next winter. Aomori looks really fascinating!
