Another interesting one is that Spain and Morocco actually share the shortest international land border due to a small island off Morocco's coast that is a Spanish territory, called Penon de Velez de la Gomera. The island has become connected to Morocco due to a storm a bit less than a hundred years ago that washed enough sediment between the landforms to connect them. The border is a total of 85 meters or about 279 feet.

I do kinda find Kiribati to be more "pure" though, if that's the right word for it, given their entire territory is in the same general area, but it just so happens to straddle the equator _and_ the antimeridian, whereas France has to cheat a little bit by having overseas territories classified as being France proper.

Another weird fact not mentioned in this video but which correlates to this one: the closest US state to Africa turns out to be Maine. But if you look at a map (or better still, a globe), Newfoundland and Labrador are even closer, with _the_ closest point at Cape Spear.

Oh, I'm an idiot. I need to hear the phrasing again from the video. I (now believe) I completely misinterpreted the claim. I'm guessing the comparison was, "Between Canada and the US, which is closer to Africa? Answer:Canada is closer to Africa."

Mauritania was the second national flag without all three of those colours, but only until 2017, when they slapped two horizontal red lines on it.
Also, to resolve the ‘maroon or red’ argument… maroon is a shade of red.
