    Malabo of Equatorial Guinea. Not only it's situated on an island and not the continental part of the country, but it is also closer to Cameroon than the continential Equatorial Guinea
    Edit: Indonesia, unlike EG, is an island nation through and through, so no matter where the capital is situated it will always be on an island. EG, on the other hand, owns a territory on the continent, yet their capital isn't located on the said territory. Also, even if Malabo won't be the capital of EG in the future, it is a capital CURRENTLY, so it still counts
    Edit 2: Now that I actually think about it, Denmark will fall in the same category as EG, because Copenhagen, the Danish capital, is also located on the island and it's much closer to Sweden then continetial Denmark

    Malta is only classified as Europe because of the culture and religion being heavily influenced by Britain and Italy, and also since it's politically tied to European countries. Maltese is a semitic language, deriving from Arabic, but has been so heavily influenced by Italian, English, Greek and other languages that it has become separate language from Arabic, though I've heard it still remain lots of similarities with Tunisian Arabic. Malta is physically on the African plate. So Malta could really be both European and African.

    Bratislava actually used to be Hungary's capital for roughly 300 years (twice the amount of time Budapest has served as the capital of Hungary and 10 times the amount of time Bratislava has served as the capital of Slovakia) Its Hungarian name was (and still is) Pozsony however the main language of the city German which called the city Pressburg. The simple reason why it they're so close is because Hungary used to be a mere vassal state to Austria in those times so the capital city was developed to be as close to Vienna as possible. By the 20th century the majority of the population shifted demographically in favour of the surrounding Slovak people who historically call this land home.

    • @TheSeparhim
      @TheSeparhim 10 месяцев назад +25

      That is not completely what happened. The main reason why Bratislava became the capital of Habsburg Hungary was simply because the Habsburg did not hold Buda for most of the time, and Buda was not well maintained by the Ottomans so the Habsburg did not bother changing for a while after it was reconquered from the Ottomans. And although Bratislava served for a long time as Austrian Hungary's capital, Buda has served as the capital both prior and after that period. Buda and Pest were united in the 19th century so trying to argue that Bratislava was the capital longer is kind of misleading, when you factor in Buda has served as capital for longer than Bratislava ever did.

    • @varsoo1
      @varsoo1 9 месяцев назад +1

      Well first of all, Budapest was not a city for the majority of the time Austria held it. Budapest, first of all, was not even an Austrian/AustroHungarian city until the 17th century, and second of all, it was two cities called Buda and Pest on each river bank, which, being a major river before the Industrial Age, made it virtually impossible to build a bridge with the technology at the time. Same reason why Brooklyn and New York City were separated until 1900. It was therefore two small cities, with little interconnectability.
      But the main reason is that Budapest was absolutely destroyed by the Ottomans both through war and through lack of maintenance during their 200 year rule.

    Another example like this one is Pristina in Kosovo (if you consider Kosovo a country) and Sofia in Bulgaria.

      @@meron7700 that is my point tho. It doesn’t make much sense to assign the Caribbean to either north or south because they are their own distinct subregion within the larger American continent.
      It doesn’t have to be 7 continents, many places learn them as 6 counting only one America. And people being form a different country shouldn’t really factor in this case.

      It depends on your definition of continent. Europe is a separate continent due to cultural and historical, not geographical, factors. That would imply that North and South America should also be separate. Otherwise there should be five continents with America and Eurasia as two of them. Or maybe four with Afro-Eurasia.

I think the Caribbean is a bit of a grey area, and really not part of either 'continent', I consider it an oceanic community like Oceania. But if we have to put them with one or the other, I'd put the Greater Antilles with North America and the Lesser Antilles with South America. Naturally the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos, and Bermuda would also be grouped with North America, just as the Galapagos and Falklands would be grouped with South America.
