Wow the muscle memory, speed, accuracy, and power Jesse has at 74 is incredible. Bruce Lee's first student to learn and touch hands with a legend. Jesse was the very first to help Bruce develop and pave the way for JKD as it is today. R.I.P JESSE a legend in his own right.

See JKD philosophy is always to adapt...like water. If you flow into a cup, you become the cup. Don't become a cup if you don't flow into a cup. In this case his opponent made Jessie to be a cup, so to speak, and he react appropriately by become the cup that his opponent forced him into.

    • @johnpeterson4213
      @johnpeterson4213 3 года назад +1

While performing chi sao, especially the heavy forward pressure way, if your opponent doesn't offer sufficient counter pressure in the process of movement, your constant forward pressure would shoot right through his/her defense. That's the heavy forward pressure way. If you try and deflect his arm to the side, all he needs to do is disengage contact and shoot forward or roll his arm and strike with and angular strike.

Nice video. How have you progressed since then? How is your structure these days. Are you able to protect your center line now and are you lighter with your energy flow? That's why Jesse would yield to your energy and then smack you- you're pressing to much and not protecting your centerline. Jesse was my first Sifu back in 1974 when I was 12 till I was 18. His style of Chi Sau was very heavy on the forward energy. I got back into training when I was around 28 with Sigung Taky. It took him a few months to get me to lighten up my chi sau. Then I went back to the very foundation of Wing Chun and got even lighter. Wing Chun practitioners are like ghost, you hardly feel them!

@Izzo warrior Chi Sao is the primary hand striking and defending exercise of Wing Chun which was the martial art Bruce Lee trained in and taught until he began to develop JKD. BRUCE LEE ADOPTED CHI SAO INTO JKD. If you can master Chi Sao you will be virtually untouchable from any martial art or boxing strike to the upper body.

All of the individuals that claim a secret knowledge of Wing Chun or claim that you need to know "all" of Wing Chun to be effective are simple minded and delusional. Which Wing Chun? Wing Chun was vast and varied and designed to adapt to the opponent and the student. It was always about refining the tools it encountered for fighting and only a few well refined tools are required to become a good fighter. The "Grandmaster" William Cheung devotees are the worst trolls of this argument. I like Sifu William Cheung but he created this story to give himself more credit in an era when people were more easily fooled by these things. He definitely was a fighter and a good martial artist but stories like his were the common thing a few decades ago in the Martial Art world. Also, he himself stated that Bruce Lee was good at Wing Chun and that he was and incomparable fighter during his life, calling him "The best fighter in the world" and "greatest martial artist" meaning....better than William Cheung including his "true" style. I am surprised that his promo trolls like this gentleman keep forgetting that. Bruce Lee was one of only a small group of these guys who could actually DO what he claimed while all of the "grandmasters" were content to simply talk and theorize, because it is much harder to do the work and train every part of your body to reach a high level of skill and athleticism required to fight against other highly skilled fighters. It is quite easier to Talk about it. Even Wong Shun Leung, who was Bruce Lee's senior under Yip Man and the one Yip Man most trusted to help Bruce continue practicing after all of the jealous "senior students" had Bruce kicked out for beating them down, said that Bruce did what Wing Chun was designed to do, adapt and change with the individual. Wong was the actual fighter that most represented Wing Chun and even William agreed with his story that Bruce was kicked out because after six months he was beating the seniors of the art. At that time he obviously knew even less of the system. Therefore the arm chair trolls arise to Talk about fighting and recite legend or theory and always result to the "but you only know two thirds or one fifth" or any other ridiculous "My Sifu knows the only real Wing Chun" ..."Traditional Wing Chun" argument. Look at the level of skill coming from MMA these days and they are just in the beginning stages of implementing what Bruce Lee was saying, proving and teaching in the sixties. Wing Chun tools are all over the mma world now, the low kicks, the elbows, even the trapping and punching work is there, it is just not being called "Wing Chun. Jon Jones and Anderson Silva as well as Connor McGregor are prime examples of fighters employing some of the tools and strategies of the art, with Anderson Silva actually training with Bruce Lee's friend, student and legend in his own right, Sifu Dan Inosanto. The entire system of Muay Thai or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are not being used either to win against highly skilled opponents. It is the refined applications of these methods along with high level attributes And lots of experience that is leading to success and not the knowledge of "All of the system" and in most cases, less than "two thirds" of any of the arts are being used at any time. Stop crying about things that do not matter and start training. It is these Talkers and poor representatives of Wing Chun that are bringing down the quality and effectiveness of an otherwise simple, direct and effective fighting art. Stop trying to LOOK like you are a Wing Chun man and start Doing it effectively. When it is effective how it looks will be a delight....

@@takingdownkeyboardwarriors6498 Lee was not kicked out due to beating other students up. Lee was kicked out, because he stood outside of Yipmans apt building, and falsely claimed that Yipman was Sick... and that class was Canceled. Lee did this at least twice, before he got caught. Lee did this, because he was a Selfish Narcissist, that wanted a PRIVATE one on one session, with Yipman. He didnt care about the other students, and he was more than willing to risk his bad actions... for what he would gain in the short term.
As for speaking about various WC schools / teachings... I can easily tell you, that there are a LOT of schools / branches, that are doing various things incorrectly.. which cause actual weaknesses and easily exploitable flaws.
Ive personally studied under three different WC Sifu's. One of these Sifus had three different teachers himself... so his teachings were also a mix of the three. From these, as well as from testing various methods out myself... AND from knowledge and skills from other non WC arts... Ive learned more about how WC actually works, than most Sifus combined. More than that... I actually fully mastered all of what I had learned... and was able to apply it properly in Heavy contact sparring, against non WC fighters, that were often 2x my own mass and strength. I could maintain perfect form in these matches... not failing into some kind of sloppy kickboxing form of WC.
While its true, that having a well conditioned and fit body, is very important to being an exceptional combat artists... (and I was)... its also true, that a higher skilled OP, was able to defeat my former lesser skilled self... despite me having superior physical attributes (faster speed, longer reach).
Furthermore... even IF some of these masters were not in top shape... 1) They still have the potential to be Lethal, and very capable. 2) They contain valuable knowledge, that few people have access to.
I can also tell you, from real world experience and hardcore training... that there is a HUGE difference from how I used to do WC... from how I eventually ended up doing WC. There were flaws in how I interpreted certain things. There were things that the teachers did not fully reveal, were missing, or simply didnt know.
For example... Only one branch of WC, taught proper breathing methods. Only one branch, taught the 1st form with a Tai Chi slow-motion training section (the "Three Prayers to Buddha" section)... and had us to the entire form over and over for 1 full hour sessions. Only one teacher, had us do 20 min nonstop paksau drills. All of my teachers had a 2hr classes, that had a 1hr core workout... where as many WC schools lack any workout sessions at all. None of the teachers I had... taught short range power generation (fajing).
One of my Sifu's learned from both Yip Chun and WSL. He almost always rushed in with quick forceful combinations, and never really taught the correct way of entering with a "safe bridge". Not "Listening" to the OPs energy... and instead, trying to use WC like Hard-Force Karate. (which can work... until you go up against someone much larger and stronger than you.. and then they stone-wall you, and crash through your BS)
Mentioning MMA dudes trying to speed-learn some WC, and being absolute Garbage at it as a result... is actually pathetic. There are no shortcuts, to Masterclass level performance. Thats like a complete Noob, expecting to take a 1 week seminar on kicking... and expecting to be able to kick like a TKD master. Same power, speed, acceleration, and accuracy. Its not happening. Not even with a month worth of training. It can take a brand new WC student, about 3 months time... before they can even stand in the Goat Riding stance for more than 5 min, without their legs shaking violently... in agony. If you have little to no foundation... forget about the rest... as its like building a castle on swamp land. The entire castle will sink into the ground, and crumble to pieces.
The truth is, that your opinions are just as bad as the next. Full of poor information, missing knowledge, bad assumptions, and lack of high level combat experiences.

Wing Chun works to a certain degree and at a certain distance and like all martial arts it has limitations. This is why Bruce went beyond it and developed JKD. Most of the Wing Chun people who only do chi sao will have a rude awakening in their first sparring session against a trained fighter.

The problem with stories about Bruce is (while you both may be right or wrong) is that if you ask about a certain topic point on him, you'll get 5 different stories of how things went down.
I mean look at different people's conversations about Bruce, tell me you don't see a pattern of stories that strongly suggest a lot of it is all based out of assumptions and speculations that only his students can truly speak for me.

Total bullshit. I started in jkd, and went to wing chun when i saw how much more advanced the entire system is. Every art bruce took from, is better then jkd.

It s good that u dont know how deep is wingchun.. all i want for wingchun is for it to be back as an exclusive martial art.. not for mass consumption.. way to go bro.. stick to ur foolishness. And hail to JKD

Might I point out that if Jesse had a More Experienced fighter he was working with that the outcome would be a Way different, no disrespect to either of these guys or their experience but, when you train and you train with a guy that knows how to fight and one that does not, you can and will feel and understand the difference, what I see here is a little Fascination from the younger guy because Jesse was Bruce's first student and Jesse knows this, because he was where this kid was once at years ago and now he is in the drivers seat which is to be expected. but nice to see Mr. G work his stuff and flow.

Also remember, they are simply doing an exercise practicing and learning about energy flows, patterns, sensitivity, structure. There is no outcome here to be expected. Just train, be humble and learn.

Korbett Miller, I will tell you one thing some of the best Wing Chun masters touched hands with Jesse Glover and were humbled. After the passing of Bruce Lee he taught all of Bruce Lee's first generation Seattle students such a Ed Hart and yes James DeMile ( who was one your teachers ) so show him some respect. You would have been no match for him. Jesse Glover was my friend, mentor and teacher. I had loyalty with him from the start to the end. At least I can say that about what we had. And I was no match for Jesse Glover and you certainly would not have been either. So please show some respect for those who can no longer speak out.

So I'm not fully understanding the method. is the young man only blocking for defense? Because I could see several ways he could have moved forward and struck but he didn't. Which makes me think He was only On the defensive in the exercise. And the old man well He looked Way too serious For a mere demonstration.
