As much as Guro Inosanto has accomplished in his life, as skilled as he is, as many other masters he has trained with, it's amazing how humble he is. There is no sense of superiority with him. What an amazing human.

+Edmond Lau Right on my friend.. ego fully in check ..and then a new view of him…The Congas! The minute I heard the Congas I thought?? When I saw Dan playing them, well he went up even higher to me. Especially in that he was using them for timing with students. Like you said, what a Man.

I trained at the Innosanto Academy. Such good memory to see the place. In the background is the original Bruce Lee wooden dummy for wing-chun practice. Danny is so amazing to listen to and learn from. He did an amazing job of preserving Bruce Lee spirit and knowledge while also adding his own things. Danny never abused his association with Bruce and never put down other Martial Artists. What a knowledgeable and classy guy. Highest respect and honor to have met him. Hats off!

Last time I spoke with Greg Lee he doesn't "teach" anymore. Although he'll direct and oversee things. Everyone sort of went on with their lives and careers. I'm making independent Sci-Fi action films now. Grateful to Danny and everyone in JKD family as I can use what they taught me when I do martial arts in my own films.

Well , dan is the quite opposite compare to Steven seagal when it comes to look at other martial artists , he talks aboute them in a respektabel way for Who they are and what they do in martial arts . And as for Bruce , he never looks down or talk down aboute Bruce in any disresectabel way , only that that they looked and saw at things in different ways back and fourth , wich is nothing wrong with that , to mention Steven seagal in that , he has something to learn there from dan , even though dan and Steven are two complete different People.

In Dan's validation of Bruce's confrontations I get the feeling Dan stood and watched Bruce prove his theories. You can't follow someone's teachings and they can't back it up in application in real life! Dan himself says it here, 'in all of the confrontations I saw him in'. Also, this demo was done some years (not 30 or 40 years) after Bruce's death and Dan's recollection is very much in tact.

Danny Inosanto is a real American gem. He ran the 100 in 9.4 seconds I believe. He was a punter in football and a wicked martial artist who alongside Bruce Lee pushed martial arts in an entirely new direction. I just started taking JKD 4 months ago. I am 58 and after watching Bruce Lee when I was a teenager always wanted to do what he was doing. As Danny explains and what I am learning ...real fighting and JKD is not really like the movies. It is not sexy and flashy but boy does it work. Great to hear Danny explain the difference between movies and real fighting. I would love to sit down for supper with Danny and hear about those fights he saw Bruce in!!!!

I from Torrance, Cal. I was a student ( IMB) of Guro Dan Inosanto and Guro Richard Bustillo from 1882-1987. It was the best time of my life learning from these masters in L.A.There was so many mixtures of styles of martial arts in their teachings. I was very fortunate to have that experience. The only reason I left that school is that I had a job opportunity to work in Europe and left in 1988 and never came back to the states for 17 years. I'm 70 years old now and still in martial arts. I live now in Stockholm, Sweden. No Jeet Kune Do here in Sweden. I'm into Wing Chun now where Brue Lee started with.

I studied Judo and Aikido for many years and can say that all the martial arts have their place. Bruce Lee's skills were extremely well-developed and he was an amazing athletic and intellectual talent, difficult to cope with by any system... he just had overwhelming skills. His base was Wing Chun, which is a powerful and capable system, but he used many other skills including western boxing. Judo is very powerful and if a Judoka gets a hold of you may be finished... but same for good wrestler

Quick Fact: Bruce Lee was nearly 1/8th of GERMAN heritage. Most people believe that he was Full Chinese but either his grandfather or grandmother had traces of German blood. This explains why he had a distinguished strong jaw line and other notable facial features that were not typical in the Chinese appearance. His German heritage showed in his outward appearance even though he had obvious & prevalent Chinese features as well. He truly was unique & one of a kind. No disrespect to the Chinese culture but he never looked full Chinese to me, in my opinion. I'm also of 'mixed race' by the way.

Agreed. Every art has something to offer. That was what Bruce realized very quickly. That is why he explored out of Wing Chun and boxing into other arts. Once someone does that they start to see more than the differences in systems but the similarities. That is why it is easy to mistake techniques in the video for only WC and boxing. Dan even adds some Kali at the end which is extremely similar to Wing Tsun.

      well said!! !!!
I think the ignorance is not limited to this subject either there are alot of haters, trolls, and people who like to bash what they just don't seem to understand (or are jealous of) especially on RUclips and internet.
Bruce Lee's whole aim in his training was to develop as a complete fighter! his philosophy and teaching threatened the traditionalist and angered those who did not wish to break outside of the box.
Lee was a fitness fanatic. a training fanatic. A total pioneer and genius of personal growth and development. Thing is that he was an actor and pretty damn exceptional. why? The same reason he is a Legend of the arts. because he was always about being the best at whatever he did. He was a master over his own physical abilities.
.. his experience, knowledge, wisdom, will, energy, and strength as a person is nothing but admirable.
if MMA was around back then and he wanted to join he would train, adjust to the rules and do what it takes to be on top...period.

Right about needing to know what the forms are for.
Here are some other benefits of forms, 1) Building Memory 2) Making the techniques part of your muscle memory 3) Staying limber 4) Forms are a good way to practice alone. Yes I study the Kyusho applications, but I just like collecting forms.

I am not doubting Bruce but everyone has their way of practising their martial art. Bruce is a great martial artist focusing great deal on speed, strength and agility. However, his demonstrations and movies could only show so much application and combination. The fact that he learnt Wingchun in the kungfu discipline and not studying other style long enough may account for that. His openmind view for all types of martial arts is what I greatly appreciate tho.

He stood toe to toe (Training) with just about every champion and high ranking martial artist of his day. The comment of Bruce and kicks that Inosanto said he seldom used in any of his confrontations unless he was just playing around with the man goes to say Bruce was that good with his hands that he didn't need kicks, his comment also validates that Bruce fought in actual conflicts where people continuously say he never did.

I have nothing but admiration and respect for Guru Inosanto and the late sifu Bruce Lee however I discovered through my own research and experimentation that the forms have so much to offer .
You actually don't want to limit yourself to one interpretation of a particular movement but rather be free to interpret it in many different ways.
Many movements in forms have multiple uses from strikes to throws to joint-locks and break-holds.
    * They build co-ordination very rapidly, * they condition the body, * they allow the practitioner to learn an entire system without speaking the same language as the creator of the art and most importantly * they
allow one to learn a sophisticated fighting system without having to reinvent the wheel.
In other words you don't have to start over from the beginning to develope an entire system.

The traditional method of forms is necessary for solo practice. Especially when training alone for long periods where there wasn't a friendly gym close by.
Don't mock the forms just because the times have changed.

    • @heavycurrent7462
      @heavycurrent7462 4 года назад

How many more traditional "masters" need to be demolished by amateur MMA fighters for you to get the idea? The problem with training with forms, is that you are training yourself to fight someone who also fight with the exact same form as you. JKD is not a set of moves you have to learn. It is rather an ideal. A constant, ongoing progress you work on your entire life. Like an artist learning art not in terms of charcoal pencil and white paper.

Lee began teaching martial arts in the United States in 1959. He called what he taught Jun Fan Gung Fu (literally Bruce Lee's Kung Fu). It was basically his approach to Wing Chun. In Oakland's Chinatown in 1964, Lee had a controversial private match with Wong Jack Man, a direct student of Ma Kin Fung, known for his mastery of Xingyiquan, Northern Shaolin, and T'ai chi ch'uan. According to Lee, the Chinese community issued an ultimatum to him to stop teaching non-Chinese people. When he refused to comply, he was challenged to a combat match with Wong. The arrangement was that if Lee lost, he would have to shut down his school, while if he won, he would be free to teach white people, or anyone else.

The man wasn’t a fighter in the competitive since, he was a fighter in the art of self-defense!!! He was more about how to end a street fight quickly as possible. Fighting wasn’t a sport for him or an actual “art form”, it was a way to express ones self and to protect ones self. And he use martial arts a tool.
