I layer my 808 with another 808 that is an octave up and has a hp filter, helps them come through much better on phones

People need to get off busy works beats nuts. He talks about multiple streams of money him self. But doesn't let people he works with do the same. Slim is the shit. He has great sub interaction! btw, great video!! Really clean mix. I can definitely feel the punch of the kick and the thick subs of the 808s. I'm comparing your mixes to mine, and I can see right off the bat that my 808s are clashing with my kicks. I use Reason 9 as opposed to FL Studio, but I'm sure your techniques will transition right into my daw. Thanks for the video Slim!!

Halo If you do want a more scientific explanation, a compressor takes the harmonics of the sound and levels them down based on whatever you set it at. The whole idea is to make a sound that has quiet and loud parts more even, by pushing the loud parts down near the quiet parts. This obviously makes it more even but also makes the sound quieter. You then add gain to make up for the volume lost to the entire squashed sound. Which raises the quiet and loud parts that are now even in volume back up to an overall louder volume.
I know you didn't ask, but what a compressor actually did confused me for so long so I thought i'd share what I wish someone would have told me lol.
