I have a 22 Mazda CX-5 and the cool valve is stuck open, doesn’t overheat but it’s still driving. Also I’m glad the 24 has the mechanical valve now, cause I have 24 and 22 CX-5.
Had to have the coolant control valve replaced on our ‘19 CX-5, which was done under warranty(it would take forever for the engine to reach operating temperature). My tech has 21 years experience with Mazda and he told me the job is a real PITA. Glad I didn’t have to pay for it.
5:55 I am curious if you have more information on this? My US 2024 non-turbo CX-5 still has this monstrosity...part# PYFD-15-16ZA. The "A" suffix supposedly alleviated the problem but definitely not an old-style mechanical thermostat...would be interesting to see the part numbers on those bad ones you have there.
I took a screen shot of another video and zoomed in on part number and it only had the Z on the end . NOT ZA . So the ones ending in just Z seem to be the ones with the issues.
I'm also want to buy a used one take it apart and I'm sure that there's a electric motor in the case thst stops working. Probably easy for to replace a china brand motor. Lol
I have a theory....to me it seems like all the people having issues have the lower trim models. They dont have heads up display. They dont have all the bells and whistles. Both of mine were top trim levels...and i had a temperature gauge. It was always perfect. Every single yhing was flawless except the rear brakes...they wore out faster yhan the front.. what teim level do you have ...if you're having issues???

This might be a dumb question but I’m not a mechanic, is the coolant control valve the same thing as the thermostat because if I search for that part on auto zone or OReillys it doesn’t show up when using the search term coolant control valve, however when I did past research on thermostat issues the part looks the same as these coolant control valves.
what will happen if the car gets operated with that stuck valve ? as i presume the temperature wont go high in winter right ? as for the summer it keeps the engine with low temperature operation.
Do you know what conditions actually cause that code to come up? I've been dealing with my '19 mazda 3 struggling to reach even 1/4 on the gauge (1/2 is normal temp) even after a 30 minute highway drive. I'm surprised I haven't gotten this yet. The dealer told me I had to have the check engine light come on before I'm eligible for warranty replacement which sucks because it's clearly the problem. Wonder if I could retrofit whatever the new CX-5's have that you mention.

Yep, they don't give a crap unless you get the light. Honestly really can't recommend getting a Mazda at this point since they don't stand behind their products.
I got a mazda 6 2.0 gasoline, 165 HP from Europe, non turbo. I can't seem to find this part on any european parts catalog, but my car does have this and it's not an import, it's from netherlands. The coolant struggles to heat up, but I don't have the check engine light, neither after driving 1000km on a single day. Could this be the problem for my situation as well? Any idea how it comes that this part is rarely found in european part catalogs?

its really not that bad. the worst part is draining and refilling the coolant. its really accessible just under the battery.

Mazda went back to mechanical thermostat for 2023+ but would be interested to see what would it take to retrofit.

The coolant control valve I believe is only a mazda part and cannot be found aftermarket.

Same problem on my Mazda 2. Do you change the Coolant Valve from PYFA1516ZA to PYFA1516ZB ?

Mazda CX-30's have this valve as well. But not the new 2024 CX-30.
