I had the pleasure of meeting these two men while they were in Wyoming. I would like to say thank you for choosing Wyoming and specifically the small little town of JayEm to enjoy this once in a lifetime experience. I enjoyed every minute that we spent together. I missed the chance of recording this moment on my own camera but want to tell you thank you for recording it and sharing it on yours. I hope you both had a great time on your trip. Thank you again.
Hello again Kory. Great to hear from you. Wyoming was very good to us. Perfect weather and great location. You can tell from the video how much we enjoyed it and we were really pleased at how the various cameras captured the whole event and the final video we got to produce. Glad you enjoyed it as much as we did and you have this video now for good..... Cheers again for all your assistance that weekend and your team's work to help every one enjoy the day. Ian!
I was also there viewing from JayEm, and had a wonderful experience. (I would like to say that the chaos of MANY MANY outsiders coming to this area could turn the local folks bitter with the massive intrusion, but found completely the opposite. The couple of places my wife and I stopped [Lusk specifically] were all friendly, and helpful. The ensuing traffic snarl was handled without the expected gridlock thanks to the local police and municipal workers. We'll be back again just to enjoy the area, as I have excellent memories there. Thank you on behalf of one of the people there!).
Really loved your video! I saw the eclipse in person in Madras, Oregon. This video captures the experience better than any others that I've seen. I especially love that you had the drone do a 360 during totality rather than focusing solely on the corona. That 360 degree sunset was something else! Thanks for helping me relive the experience.
Thanks Amanda! Yes, the Moon and corona is amazing, but the all-surrounding twilight was etherial and just as much part of the experince. Glad it brought it all back for you. Ian
Hi aniya; I think that will be more down to the different light sensitivity of the lights; the shadow is indeed moving around 1,600 mils per hour across the earth's surface...
Wow - simply breathtaking. Wish I would have been there. To go up with the Mavic and to show the scenery was a brilliant idea - the footage is rewarding and most probably makes you forget the gimbal problem with the original Mavic. Looking at this footage, it was the best decision to buy a new one - you will never regret it! Keep us posted with more from your trip to us back home!
Ian, I just purchased the Mavic Pro last week and the best training has been watching your videos. You are very "hands on" and polished. Keep up the good work and enjoy the U.S. If you have a chance, some of the most majestic scenery you will find is in Sedona, Arizona. Thanks again.
Thanks John; that's really nice to hear. after a mad few days, we're finally back in the UK now, wading through truckloads of video and pictures. We were in Sedona 2 years ago; AZ, UT, WY and CO are our favourite areas to visit for the scenery... Cheers, Ian
Cheers Norm; very good of you to say. The eclipse was pretty much the pinnacle of our trip and it's good to have the extra push to capture as much as possible on video; makes for better memories ..... Cheers Ian
Ian, you did a great job , The wind sounds rough the terrain looks flat. awesome mavic footage of the entire event. good to see you enjoying the states.. Lots to see for sure.. This video was like being there in 3D my kids loved it to👍
Yes you're right! We did 100 miles in 5 hours..... We cam in from the North but left heading South and that was the issue :) Glad you had a great morning though!
Hey, Ian, from the family of mom, dad and son that was two vehicles in front of yours. What a gorgeous video! Beautifully edited-loved the music. Thanks for making such a great compilation of what we experienced that day.
Hi there Eugene & co. We were so pleased with the footage we got and we really did capture the enormity of the moment I think! I think Stu has emailed you the pictures too, so a good job all round. Hope the journey back wasn't too rough for you; we had 5 hours for 100 miles....... :( See you in Texas in 2024 :)
Hi Dennis; simple truth is if it's not total, it's not a great eclipse. People here in Larramie in southern Wyoming had 98.5% totality and were commenting on how unimpressive it was.... Glad you like the vid...
Great shots... I didn't have my Mavic then or I would have also filmed, but my family saw eclipse a few minutes before you did (with a much shorter journey than yours) from Marshall, MO. Spectacular! Thanks for sharing.
Terrific & unique views of the eclipse. Thanks for sharing. I was in Oregon. What I didn't experience so much, that your drone captured, is the 360 degree sunset or twilight. I was in China in 2009 for that total eclipse. It was sort of backwards. I and the other nerds were on top of Huang Shan which was forecasted to have the best weather, clearest skies.... At the last minute we got dense cloud cover--but we were able to see in a flash twilight in all directions. The other part of it being backwards was a bus load of tourists heading to Huang Shan who knew nothing about it. The driver noticed it was getting dimmer so he pulled over, someone sort of remembered something so they all got out and looked up --saw the whole thing. And told us about it later. What would be really neat for a drone is to capture the approaching and receding shadow. I did catch some of that in Oregon. I was on a hilltop about a 1000 feet up. I really like your drone videos. Mavic should give you a cut when I spring for one. I'm sure you're a fan of Time Team, I noticed on one side of the big 'barrow' south of Stonehenge the next vegetation/contour (couldn't tell) was interesting. And maybe the bog cone wasn't intended to be round. Just musing. (I visited last year 2018--so I know it never rains in May and June and is always sunny and 25 degrees. Coming from California this was a bit disappointing.) I figure my ancestors built Stonehenge-- so if you have any questions....; > Anyway, what I learned while stomping around the UK and Ireland is that if you just look, there are barrows and megaliths all over the place. In Ireland looking for one thing I stumble on a couple of others. With a drone, during dry seasons, at dawn and dusk, you probably have a chance at spotting signs of archeology that all the other methods might miss.
@@IaninLondon Thanks. During a partial eclipse the dappled light under trees? It's all overlapping mini-eclipses. A colander makes dozens of eclipse images. Square holes? mini-eclipses. It's pretty neat, well worth looking out for. And something to do in between total eclipses. It also means that on any sunny day, those round sun dapples are all images of the sun-- doesn't matter what shape the aperture is.
good shooting good stuff on the backseat of the car (OMG) good company with you good place to shoot and of course fly the Mavic (counting down the days for mine to arrive...) : ) Well done buddy...!!!!
My pleasure.... Just be sure to keep alive and experimenting those wonderful things.... Hugs, Greetings for Stuart and LOTS of cookies for Molly, Meg and Ted(dy)...!! : )
Thanks Eliza. Have to admit, this is my favourite video out of all the ones I've made and I still get goosebumps when I watch it. Glad you have you on board; I've got plenty of videos on my channel and more coming. Cheers, Ian
Howdy John. There was an observation plane chasing the shadow that flew over at a high altitude at that point. Because the sun was so slim, the shadow of the plane was sharp and clear....
I just saw Your equipment, and I want to ask You something sir, but I can't ask on youtube. Do you have Facebook or something where I can get in contact with You?

I just got serious goosebumps watching this. This is unbelievable
Cheers David! Yeah, this has to be one of my favourite videos! Speak soon fella Cheers! Ian
Awesome drone footage of the shadow approaching. Got to see it in between Madras and Redmond. I'll never forget it.
It's truly amazing.... glad you saw it too fella,... :)
Love your choice of music mate

Today it's 9th April 2024, a day of total solar eclipse and it's amazing to see your video.
Great video! I personally saw this eclipse in Tennessee, driving from New Jersey. Before that day, I was an eclipse virgin!
WOW! Love it, this is something I've always wanted to see: The Moon's shadow racing towards you at 1000s mph. Amazing.
Thanks fella! It was an amazing day, as your video shows too :)

Best solar eclipse video yet.

Thanks John. Yes, this footage was the intention when I got the replacement! Made it all worthwhile :)
Great presentation. Thanks for sharing this...!!!
Awesome video
Ian this is great! I am so glad you shared this.
Thanks Jeff. Yep, a pretty special day! And had to concentrate on the event itself rather than the Mavic.... Cheers as ever. Ian.
Fantastic and a réal good idea thanks

That was awesome. I hope when I get my Mavic Air I can get footage that is half as good. Many thanks for sharing.
Cheers again! This was a pretty special event! 8 months in planning :)
Very successful Ian - a worthwhile trip methinks! Mavic was a real bonus.

Well done! 👌
Fantastic video Ian! Thanks for sharing this. Great channel too.

Cheers Pete!
I was up in Glendo. You captured it perfect. You eclipse carnage was on the way out of Wyoming. 2 1/2 hours it took to drive 23 miles.
Yes you're right! We did 100 miles in 5 hours..... We cam in from the North but left heading South and that was the issue :) Glad you had a great morning though!
Awesome video Ian, liked and subscribed. Good job putting all the footage into one video.

Cheers fella... Yep, the whole trip was planned around yesterday.....
So awesome to capture the eclipse. Great job!
I was at work and it didn't look that great here in Washington but, thanks for sharing this short video. Great job mate.
Hi Dennis; simple truth is if it's not total, it's not a great eclipse. People here in Larramie in southern Wyoming had 98.5% totality and were commenting on how unimpressive it was.... Glad you like the vid...
Where I live, there was an 80% eclipse two years ago. The best thing about it was watching people being oblivious of it :)
Awesome video! Glad it was a Mavic filming. Yeah I own one too 😀
It did the job fine this time :)
Wonderfull !!!!! 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🌖🌑🌚🌒🌔🌞
Brilliant. Nicely done mate!
Chers Glyn! It all went off like clockwork and we still enjoyed the whole thing..... Brilliant day. Ian
Looked amazing mate; captured it great!
Wow stunning... amazing stuff. Can't believe 4 mean gits pressed 'thumbs down' though!
lol... yeah, I chuckled at that... maybe they only had a partial eclipse :) :) :)
This total solar eclipse was amazing i viewed mine from salem oregon

You look like the cat that got the cream. Well done.
I was pretty chuffed with the day :)
3:59 and 4:21 beautiful images M8
Thanks for that. We were very happy with the results!
What shadow/object is moving across at 2:43-2:45? Great video and production.
Howdy John. There was an observation plane chasing the shadow that flew over at a high altitude at that point. Because the sun was so slim, the shadow of the plane was sharp and clear....
I was wondering that myself. Thanks for clarifying. amazing footage you captured.
Great video. What was the shadow that flew from left to right at speed from the drone just as the light went?
Hi John. There was a sightseeing plane chasing the shadow at a higher altitude that shot across just as totality hit....
Ian in London well captured!
The drone shot was assume.
I'm sure you meant "Awesome!"
John Swander I read “awesome” until I saw your comment...😂
Great, great footage!
How high was that drone?
Around 400 feet but off a high escarpment, so it was looking down a good 1,000 feet down on to the plains. Ian
Thanks!
At 2:42 you will se a shadow travel from left to right. What could it be?
That was a spotter plane flying high overhead chasing the eclipse. Well spotted 👍🏻
Unfortunately I didn't know I could point my gimble up 30 degrees!!
On the day it made no difference as the sun was more like 80' overhead..... Ian
2:42 What is that the shadow of? The NASA jets were way east of Wyoming.
There was a shadow chasing observation light aircraft that flew over just as totality hit...
Ohhhh.
For a moment I thought it was some kind of Super-Umbra.... the *EXACT* center of the eclipse.
Well, I got the point across.
I understood you :) Cheers, Ian
How high was your Mavic? I want to do this on April 8.
What altitude did you record from with your Mavic?
Looks considerably above 400ft... just saying.
Who is watching in 2020?
I just saw Your equipment, and I want to ask You something sir, but I can't ask on youtube. Do you have Facebook or something where I can get in contact with You?
You can email via my youtube profile. And I've messaged you on IG. Cheers, Ian
