- Megyn Kelly is joined by actor Dennis Quaid, star of the new movie "Reagan," to talk about the challenges and nuances of portraying President Ronald Reagan, whether he had any reservations about doing so in today's politically and culturally divided environment, how the role demanded a deep understanding of Reagan's legacy and the complexities of his era, the lesson about standing up to a bully, how he lived his life on principles not politics, and more.

Megyn if u get any thinner they can cast u as Reagans pencil.
Definitely seeing this in theatre Love Dennis Quaid & Ronald Reagan🙏❤️🇺🇸
I served in the U.S. Navy in 1978 (as an avionics technician) when Jimmy Carter was President. I could not believe the difference in readiness for our squadron after Reagan took office. Reagan was the right man, at the right time.
My cousin served in an air wing in Hawaii and it was stunning that we had tons of planes that just never were flown because we didn’t have the spare parts to fix them. He said that changed really quickly by the end of 1981.
The Cold War ending freed 290 million people. Reagan was right.
DAMN. I was born in ‘78. Old fart. Not far behind you though. I’m a young fart.
More servicemen died during Reagans administration than any time since WW2.
How did it feel when Reagan sold weapons terrorists in Central America and the Middle East?
Can’t wait to see this. Been waiting a long time. Grateful to have shaken the great man’s hand on the ramp of LAX in the Summer of 1980.
this is true about bullies. you have to give them a chance to right their wrongs, but there comes a point where you have to take care of it in other ways.

I cannot wait to see your movie Dennis!
First Republican I ever voted for. Never voted Democratic.
Always voted for someone that was qualified and aligned with my moral or ethical values.
God bless America
Trump is NOT qualified nor he does not have moral values. He is also a bully. So tell us again why you are voting for him?
A real proper dude. A lot of the best actors are Republican.
It’s true because they didn’t drink the looney lib TDS kool aid.
BS
It was the meeting at Reykjavik that turned things around. Reagan said no to Russia and walked out.
Totally pantsed the Russkies with that one. 🇺🇲
Nice Interview Megyn...
There are people who say that we are praising Dennis Quaid because the Democrats think he supports Trump, but that has nothing to do with it because he was already a great actor long before Trump was elected. I also think Robert De Niro is a great actor, but when it comes to politics, he is a complete idiot.
It’s true, his politics is nonsense, but that’s true of most Hollywood actors. It’s even true of Noam Chomsky and he’s a public intellectual. I took numerous economics courses in college and when he speaks on economics I can tell he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Alyssa Milano once said we need to start printing money to hand out to poor people. This is how clueless most Hollywood actors are.
Excellent movie, I felt like Dennis was actually President Reagan!! I loved it!! I was in 7th grade study hall when President Reagan was shot.. I will never forget the panic me and my friend felt. about to years later.. I voted for Ross Perot!!
Love DQ, but man, Megyn looks stunning here! 😍😇🥰 Yeesh!
Amen and amen 🙏 🙌 👏!!!!
I saw yesterday. Amazing!
Inner space was a classic!! ❤
Quaid looks great for 70. Underrated actor, checkout dreamscape sometime
BEING AN AMERICAN THAT IS WHY ITS BEING CENSORED SAYS ALOT
When Obama care came in SAG insurance went out the window for retired actors. The Motion Picture Home is gone as well......what Reagan worked hard for has disappeared thanks to the Left leaning Obama administration. My husband and I went from free insurance..which was a union promise.... to over $7000.00. for the same coverage we had prior to the guild dumping their retirees down the tube. Reagan would be angry I am sure.
The Big Easy
Reagan would have supported Ukraine 100%.
I don't agree. Ukraine is folly.
But Trump doesn’t
I hope it’s a great movie. These types of movies seem to romanticise history in US favour.
In the Reagan movie, he refers to a book he read. I think his mother gives it to him as a gift. Does anyone know the title? I'd love to read it.
some parallels between reagan and trump.
And Biden and Carter as well. Both were weak Presidents.
Hola how Randy doing?
The actress playing Nancy Reagan seems a bit too ..."large" or "big" sound wrong so I'll say not petite enough instead.
I don't think he could talk to President Kennedy,
We do have a divided political environment. Why making the most polarizing biopic in film history could help with that is beyond me.
Dennis Quaid looks nothing like Reagan. Movie looks corny 😂
Dennis looks very much like Reagan in the movie. Go see it!
I grew up living in Pacific Palisades, right down the road from the Reagans. He was governor when I was a teen. He drove by our house ALOT in his station wagon with fake wood on the sides. He’d be wearing his cowboy hat. I would be getting the mail sometimes and he’d always wave! He didn’t know me from Adam, but he was just a warm, friendly, happy guy.
I'm 72 years old and Ronald Reagans story hit home. I was in the 3rd grade I think it was and this big boy down the street kept picking in my if I strayed from our yard, and at recess at school. He was a year or two older. I complained to my grandfather I maybe one too many times and instructed me that I had to fight him, and if I didn't, he would give my butt a spanking and my mom agreed. I had never had a real fight, and the how to churned over and in my head. My mom said, go in fast swinging, and the next time that's what I did. I ran at him fast wind milling (the best way to lose a fight) and I tripped, my head rammed him in the nose. He stepped back, put a hand to his face, looked at, saw blood and ran away crying. My grandpa told me, when a bully realizes you'll fight back every time, he'll leave you alone. I found that to be true.
Mr. Gorbachev;
¡TEAR DOWN THAT WALL!.......,
2 years later it came down!
Met DQ backstage at a concert (in which my dad’s band was the opener 😬). Dennis was very very kind. He took the time to take pictures with many families. 🤝
Wow!! You met Dairy Queen!!!
"If fascism ever comes to America it will come in the name of liberalism."---Reagan

That was then. I wonder what he would say now..

A Hollywood movie about a Republican President that is not a political hatchet job. Never thought we would see this. 'Nixon' and 'W' were highly partisan, left oriented depictions of both of those Presidents. Let alone 'Vice', the story of VP Dick Cheney.
MAN! The movie looks great!!
for 70
Gorbachev said he knew the Soviet Union didn't have the financial or technical resources to implement a defensive missile shield, but that America did.
Cool. Dig Dennis Quade. Sounds like a good movie
Love ❤️ Dennis he's a very good actor, watch all his movies.
Best portrayal of Reagan was on Spitting Image.
Stunningly beautiful Megyn
Turns out that randy quaid wasn't the craziest quaid...
They believed him at Iceland because the US had developed the A-bomb first , then landed a man on the moon etc. So they believed it.
Never cared about his politics either way guy is an awesome actor and American
That's absolutely right principles not politics
I know you are discussing Reagan but with my eyes closed I would have guessed you were discussing Trump. I’ve never traced the similarities so strongly before.
Great scene abt the bully, that’s what most people do, but Trump is the bully and can’t handle any punches as far as I have observed.
Most people remember the Late President Ronald Reagan for his quips and legendary humor. I remember thousands of farmers losing their farms. Hollywood made a movie. I remember being ordered to take down all the James Watt cartoons from our cubicle walls. I recall when he was the California Governor he closed all the mental institutions and they released people unto the streets. Some people are wonderful to some people and a devil to others.
Have not seen the movie but was in the Navy when President Reagan was in office. It was the post Vietnam years served with many Nam vets one guy was even Korea & Nam, great group of people. Nice to know there was a MAN in the office that had your back and would always make sure you had what you needed to get the job done. RIP PRESIDENT REAGAN, wish we could have someone like you or Theodore Roosevelt back in charge. FLY NAVY!!!
He should have given up SDI. It never came to fruition, and we could have rid the world of nukes before they proliferated. The Soviets and Reagan both overestimated SDI.
You’re missing the point. Both nations already had thousands of nukes, so proliferation had already happened. The ruse of SDI forced the Soviets into bankruptcy and predicated the collapse of the USSR - without firing a shot.
@@TheBTG88 Reagan proposed both countries give up ALL their nukes. Gorbachev agreed, provided the U.S. give up SDI too. Reagan said no to the latter. Had Reagan assented, both countries would have given up all their nukes, and the U.S, would have lead an effort to have other countries do the same (possible then, but not later).
@@benmeltzer Reagan offered SDI to the Soviets for free so that both sides would have it and Gorbachev said no.
The brilliance of SDI was it would have made nuclear warheads useless. Therefore no need for them.
@@benmeltzer "Trust, but verify." Reagan couldn't verify. Therefore, he had no trust. And he won. Period. Thanks for coming to my Cold War TED Talk.
I don't know how ya'll don't think this is part of propaganda ...
Really! now this movie comes out? Hmmm..
You mean like all the Nixon movies the Dems pull out every four years.
Okay. Propaganda for exactly what? Reagan's third term? I'm afraid that is both limited by presidential term limits, and also by the fact that he has been dead for 20 years. 😆
