Factorio 2.0 Simulation Playthrough Using Mods (Multiplayer) - EP12

  • The anticipation for Factorio 2.0 release with all its new content and features is just too much! So I decided to join in on a 2.0 simulation playthrough that long time player ColonelWill and his crew are doing. The goal is a 50k SPM Gigabase by using Quality, massive trains and many types of builds I've not played with before.
    We have done something like this many years ago with a simulation let's play of the 0.15 update before that came out. Doing this is a fun throwback to those times and even more exciting as the features for the Factorio expansion are massive!
    Not everything can be simulated with mods unfortunately, but one of the biggest new additions, Quality items does have a mod that will be used extensively in the playthrough. Additionally, we're using a mod for Big Mining Drills, the new levels of Transport Belts, new selector combinator and more.

    I so can't wait for elevated rail, it's basically an enabler to not require chain signals (though you can build somewhat more compact if you still use them). This means e.g. that you can pipeline trains through places, effectively, including through stations: you can arrange for your stacker to funnel into the station concurrently with the previous train departing the station, and you can keep up with that around the station/junctions.
    Real-life passenger rail (i.e., excluding sorting yards) in e.g. Germany (though most of central Europe should qualify) uses zero true crossings along high-throughput sections, compare interstate/freeway/motorway/autobahn having flyovers and merging lanes to eliminate traffic lights.... except that the trains here in Germany where needed have a separate flyover funnel-out per lane, so you never ever have to cut some train in another lane off just to take an exit. Of course in lower-throughput areas we don't spam such bridge buildings and just use switch yards instead, though still e.g. often having 2 center platforms on a 2-track mainline station, with the 2 tracks between being straight pass-through (possibly rated for e.g. 200 km/h if made wide enough to protect persons on the platform from getting sucked in by the wind), and the outer ones being where a train stops to let a faster train pass it (or to just wait if it's not scheduled to depart as soon as the people are out of the doorways).
    The reason for a platform on the mainline proper is that the train can drive in at high speed due to no switch/point deflecting it as it enters the station/rolls up to the platform, and it can target a smooth but rapid deceleration from full speed (for commuter trains, 140 or 160 km/h, depending on if the supervision system is the newer fancy continuous one that has a constant connection to "traffic light regional computer" or if it relies on fixed equipment in specific places near traffic lights to inform the train's on-board electronics about the traffic light situation to enforce speed limits and possibly trigger emergency braking if the driver ignored that the switch/point takes it to a siding today where it has to be e.g. 60 km/h at the switch already, instead of merely reaching standstill at the end of the platform, some literal half-mile later. Like, sure, they don't break like a car, but they do break much faster than that, so if there is no restrictive speed limit as it enters the station and rolls up to the platform, and is in a hurry so the "gas and break pedals" are operated more like switches (on/off) to the detriment of passenger comfort, it may legit roll in with about 120 km/h at the switch/point (already braking full normal force, at the passenger comfort regulatory limit of 1.3 m/s^2).

    Logistics menu is great for Space Exploration, to see whether you have a specific item (ie, if you already have assemblers in a chest somewhere) on other planets. That's about the only use.

    51:00, the problem is you have a merge right before an intersection. compressing 8 lanes down to 4 right before a T split is baaaaaaad with 7 a's.
    Rather than compress down and then form the 4x4 t-split... use an 8 lane mainline with a 4 lane off-shoot (to the right), compress the 8 lanes down to 4 further south. Should aleviate some of the pressure on the intersection, but with how many trains are going to prioritize that ore outpost, it'll be a problem as long as there is a a merge right next to an intersection (regardless of which side the merge is on) probably until the ore patch is depleted (or calling for fewer trains).
    The best solution i've found for large-train bases is to have more parking at the outposts then the number of trains the outpost is ABLE/allowed to request.

    44:00 the ground tile on the left of the green conveyor is moving as if it is a conveyor itself. The conveyor in question is the part of the turn from up to the right. Funny bug.

    913 hours, never even knew the logistics menu existed. Still have no reason to open it.

    I will never understand why anyone would use bots to place landfill .. just hold and run .. atleast 10 times faster and more effecient >_
