That Rav4 Plug in Hybrid should have an American V-8 with a high lift camshaft playing for it's required low speed sound!
Scotty, I have a lexus nx200t 2015. Would you be worried about the Turbo Engine in this car? It has 75K on it
@@deanr6278Pull the turbo off the car and clean and inspect it. Manufacturer has a service interval for the turbo maybe every 30,000 miles.
I think Scotty will live forever with all his great energy and up to date knowledge for an older gent.Cheers Scotty ! May you live till we all have flying cars and beyond!

3. Toyota 4Runner

I often wonder if Scotty's neighbors ever call the cops on him for "a lunatic out in the driveway waving his arms and screaming at a camera". LOL
Hahahahhh ...it's a side-effects of too much passionate LOL

Turn the video speed up to 1.5, enjoy!
i wonder if Italian people watch Scotty flail his arms in the air and say "Daaaamn".....
do they correct him? 😂
I'm Italian and love Scotty! That was funny! 😂🤣😂
He's got to have some Italian blood in him somewhere 😆😆👍
First I love Scotty (and I love that this video is named like what it is). 😇 But, actually it's the RAV4 Hybrid that has the battery under the seat. The Plug-in RAV4 Prime as an owner of a 2023 RAV4 Prime XSE and friend of a Toyota Master Diagnostic Tech... the Prime's 18.1 kW battery is in a completely sealed air tight and pressurized metal housing that is under the RAV, and is also shielded by plastic. And yes, it is a fantastic blessing that we are very thankful. Hope that might help others out there! 😇
Scotty definitely screwed the pooch on this one. He even showed the underside of the vehicle saying the battery wasn’t under the vehicle. (I own a Prime too… fantastic vehicle.)
Aye, I just looked that up to confirm after he said that!
Just bought a 23 4Runner TRD off road….it’s my retirement vehicle. Will be 80 by the time it,s 25 years old…. It’s for sale 2048. Unless I’m still driving.
How much you paid?
My 2019 new Rav 4 hybrid I bought new. It has only 5,000 miles on it. It’s still like new. I love it and it’s so reliable.
We have a regular 2023 RAV4 XLE 2.5L and drive only about 8K miles a year. It will probably outlast us, and that’s one reason why we bought it. Main reason is it’s the most space efficient for the footprint and cost. We thought about the hybrid, but couldn’t justify the expense and long wait (9 months) for the miles driven.
I listen to Bluegrass and Gospel Music on Sunday Night and I don't drive anymore, but I still like your Videos.
Always a great pleasure watching Scotty Kilmer
The old screens, which look like afterthought, are very good for GPS driving. That screen keeps your eyes closer to the road, that is, your head up.
I wonder what Brand of coffee Scotty drinks before starting the video
😂
Scotty eats a large plate of creamy curd rice and then starts the video, hence his energy!
Probably strong Cajun coffee with chickery.
Toyota
Motor Oil
I thoroughly enjoyed driving our 2019 4runner limited on a recent 2500 mile road trip. It was pleasant and not fatiguing like other vehicles i have driven long distances. Nimble, capable and a joy to travel in, even the passenger seats.
Toyota always for the win 🤞 I was able to put a little over 200k on my 2015 Prius c. Traveled all over CA and from CA to Oklahoma
Just bought my first 4Runner!!!
Think I’m in love😍
I like that roll down rear window on the 4runner. So handy for picking up lumber at home depot.
Scotty Kilmer has taught me everything I know for the past 3 years. He's the best
We have a Mazda cx5 with 6 gear automatic and a corolla with cvt and we do not notice any difference in gear shifts. Both have nice smooth shifts.
Same here
I would change the motor oil in a Prime by the amount of gasoline it uses, otherwise you would be lost.
It is great to know I own both vehicles Scotty wish would buy now, and both are 2019, before all disgraces happened to the car industry. Thank you Mr Kimler
I work for a Toyota dealership in Utah. Guess what car our general manager drives. This one… the RAV4 Prime is no joke
Thx Scotty👍 Luv your videos and always makes me smile. Keep up the great work
I drive a 2018 Ford fusion Hybrid and I would love to upgrade to the rav4 prime when its time and its come down in price used.
Thank you,Mr.Kilmer, for your reviews of these 2 cars,I very much appreciate it.Merry Christmas to you and your family, sir.
Yes, Scotty confirmed some older cars with manual transmissions, could go up to a million miles. Specially with out fancy items.
Like which ones?
New cars have so much plastic parts and electronic-bloatware; that no way it can last ~Million miles....
I don’t even think manufactors will supply parts that long (at least Not at much higher price)...
RAV4-Prime is difficult to find & pricey 😞.
I’ll just stick to my RAV-XLE hybrid ( NiMH)👍
I wanted a Prime but have changed my mind. I will never pay $50,000 for a car unless it has a half bath. I will stick to my ‘16 XLE until I start having problems. So far, I have had none. My only negative…..the inside is too noisy from road noise. It is a J car, a plus.
mine is actually Gen-5, I got at invoice $😊👍(& with the proven NiMH battery)

You do a great job editing. Info top notch.
My friend just got a 2023 Jeep Rubicon 4xe. It's a beast weighing in over 7k lbs. Very limited range on electric lol. But we're in Vermont, so it's grey man Virtue Signaling. Lol
If you want a 4 Runner buy it before 2025 because they will be turbo charged hybrid.
Scotty you always mention how much you dislike CVTs. But what's your opinion of Toyotas eCVTs on their hybrids and PHEVs?
No pulley system, no shifting gears and no clutch. Arguably the most reliable mechanical design a transmission can have outside of direct drive.
I just realized my corolla ‘22 hybrid That I drive 15K miles a year costs me less than $60 a month in gas
My 2015 Subaru will probably last the rest of my life. It only has 30k mikes on it. Gets good mpg and it great for winter driving conditions.
But there engines don't use gaskets just silicone to seal parts.
@@shawnsummers2580 the new ones don’t but mine does.

Toyota's might be good cars .. I never own one in my lifetime .. but I have owned many other brands of cars/trucks .. in which I took care of them...ie. changing oil, not driving them like a race car every time .. and I had 4 that lasted well over 200,000 miles with zero problems... non Toyotas.
Scotty tells the truth about other cars too, check out his reviews of the crown vic and grand marquis.Good review.
I had Buicks, Dodges fall apart and rust out after 10 years
2008 Saturn Aura
- No problems
2015 Toyota Corolla
- Had to replace transmission
- replaced timing belt 5 times
2012 Mazda 3 Hatchback
- Had to replace Shift Cable, Clutch and Manual Transmission
The NA car manufacturers in the 80s knew that the Japanese manufacturers would one day take over. That's why all there were so many taxes and speed bumps in purchasing/importing vehicles.
..when he says: "balony communication", 😄.., thumbs up..
Toyota hybrids don't use belt based CVTs. They use e-CVTs which are maintenance free and more reliable than a traditional automatic.
❤Excellent video SK i love My Rav4 2021 Prime Dynamic Premium
One of my in laws bought one of those RAV hybrids. Said it cut their $500/month gasoline bill in half. Of course if they’d move out of SoCal, that would also effectively cut their gasoline bill. That said, while I’m not in the market for a hybrid, Toyota makes the best versions.
The best vehicle is the crown Victoria and grand marquis ❤
Still driving my 04 ford Taurus I can probably make another 2 years but after that I will need to buy something new I hope suvs are cheaper in 2025 or I am taking out a loan
buy the corolla gr, 6 speed manual, 3cyl 300hp turbo AWD. If you like the corollas :)
I've always kicked myself for not teaching my daughter how to drive a straight. I've offered to show her how but she's in her 30s and doesn't want to know. My Bad.
May God bless everyone!❤
One thing Scotty got wrong: "Manuals get better MPG than CVTs". CVTs use a variable gear via a belt. Therefore its always in the most efficient gear. Manuals have set gears, ie 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. For example. My 23 Elantra has a CVT and although its rated for 41 highway, I got 46+ mpg on the highway going 75 mph day after day. If I pushed it by driving like a grandma, I got 52 at times. TLDR: Dont get a manual transmission simply because of MPG.
Good luck getting a RAV4 Prime for the MSRP.
The only way is to pay added dealer markup. $8K
I want a 4 Runner but I can’t pay for it 😭😭
All right plug in hybrid. Scotty thanks for explaining how a PLUG IN HYBRID ELECTRIC-GAS works to your audience and its efficient electric motor.
Very true about SALT WATER intrusion will rust everything. Fresh water is not that bad, even for electronic components. Used to provide multi million dollar electronic telecom equipment and we would reccomend for certain locations water sprinkler systems. Chemical fire systems destroyed electronics, water didn't. The electronic system would turn off power automatically and water is used. Let it dry out and restart everything. Although problems with gas engines and transmissions don't use until you flush.
2012 Prius plug in almost prime got magnesium wheels. Buy gas 7.5 gallons every two months 😮 live in mountains lots of Regen going on if you touch brakes or going downhill 100 mpg. Have 05 matrix 190xxx. Runs great no rust. Half million mile cars😊
- 2021 Toyota Rav4 Prime
- 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback (manual)
- 2023 Toyota 4Runner
I wish l owned that Toyota 4 Runner...
I love the two tone sky blue bottom/black top with glass top color Corolla hatch.. actually love 4 dr hatches very practical over a sedan!
I had a 2013 Honda FIt
Wagon and move some huge and heavy things inside from dressers to loveseats to moving my 2 br condo 2 states away in a few trips. No struggling or issues.
My Accord had a CVT but it didn't feel like one.
RAV4 prime gasoline can charge the battery itself, there’s a button in there!
I own a 22 prime, Under the backseat is the DC to DC converter and fan. The batteries are for the car
Liqui Moly has a very good gasoline additive for Hybrid cars that prevents gasoline oxidation and aging. I'm using it on an LPG-converted Fiat car in Europe. It is enough to extend the gasoline lifespan from 3 months to at least 6-7 months.
I like how the early Prius all-wheel drive went back to using the NiMH technology because it's just way more reliable and tolerates temperatures much better. LiPo it's nice for weight reduction when it comes to little flying toys and I guess it's nice for charging time too but I would rather go with the old reliable. that RAV4 prime does look very cool though.. I would not be able to afford one until it becomes more than 10 years old and by then the battery will likely be useless.
Re: 4runner suspension. U can upgrade them to Bilstein shocks and they,ll ride better that the unibodies. So don't worry bout the stiff stock ride
I just sold my RAV4 for a jeep Wrangler 😊
The latest generation of RAV 4 has had fuel tank and suspension part problems. And the engine is coarse and way too much road/engine noise at speed. The Prime is better, but good luck finding one at MSRP.
I love my Prime it rides like a lexus very solid, smooth and quiet and powerful.
That Rav4 Plug in Hybrid should have an American V-8 with a high lift camshaft playing for it's required low speed sound!
I love the new 4 Runner.
wow, I did not know the 4runner had a full frame... it looks like it's two welded together C channels.. and painted.. pretty cool.. I notice a much smoother ride with full frame vehicles, there is no comparison. I'm surprised they didn't just put a V8 motor in there to get better mileage... I bet my Crown Victoria police interceptor weighs the same amount with its hydroformed box steel frame, the Crown Victoria obviously gets better mileage with the overhead cam V8 motor. it makes 300 ft lb of torque across pretty much the entire RPM range so it doesn't need to rev up but it sure can when you want it to. I have never had a car with an electronic throttle body or with a cabin air filter lol.. I still have my nose hairs and the cable operated throttle bodies. 3 speed automatic with overdrive lol. Yes it's really a four-speed 😅 oh that's right, they used to say electronic overdrive, it sounded fancy and futuristic in the '80s 😇
Scotty, is there any way they could make a modern car?
Totally mechanical without the chips and the computer systems
I'd like to see somebody bring back a simple mini truck. Just a small, single cab with crank windows, no power anything, an inline 4 or 6. Just simple and budget friendly. They'd sell like hotcakes in my opinion.
But today companies are all about planned obsolescence and having 15 different computers running all the bells and whistles like heated seats and stuff.
@@bojow8102 Sounds like what you need is a 1976 Toyota Pickup. I think you can still get one for under 5 grand, if you can find one for sale. By the way. they were only $2700 brand new lol!
Albert Einstein mechanic knows a lot about car especially Toyota
btw, combined mpg for the 4runner is 17, just like my ford ranger from the 90's
Hi Scotty,
Would you recommend a 2024 Chevrolet Trax 2RS?
Believe it or not cars that were made specifically for the north east and states with 4 seasons or server winters do you have sleight modifications that are made from other vehicles around the country. This is why I have a slight disagreement when Scotty says buy a car from down south, because if it did have any slight modification adjustment for weather conditions, and you brought it up here to the northeast, it could potentially have an electrical issue or a battery issue if that modification wasn’t done
You're talking nonsense.
I dislike the CVT's as well..
Mr. Kilmer,
I have been watching your videos with great interest. I have a 2021 RAV4 Prime with 11, 000 miles. Out of these, I have driven around 1,000 miles using the gasoline engine, the rest were powered by the electric battery (EV mode). What effect have EV miles on the gasoline motor/transmission depreciation and what should be my frequency of oil changes?
I will be pleased if you can give me your expert opinion.
0:00 Rav4 Prime
9:25 Corolla Hatchback
22:32 Toyota 4Runner
None of them are excellent. Totally expensive and boring and interior is crap
Scotty, your undercarriage view showed the big plastic cover for the battery box.
Did you rent the 1 of 4040 4 runner off Touro? Currently sitting in the same car from the video 😂 I really want one now
Prime is great as long as you never run out of battery power. If you drive long distances your mpg goes way down bc you're driving around a heavy battery with a weaker gas engine. Electricity only only works on local roads with lots of stop signs with low speed limits. Scotty def has company industry incentives to be pushing the first car like this
Got a 22 prime. 42 mpg on gas. Over 90 combined with electric or 50 miles just electric
Trying to find a reasonably priced 4Runner is near impossible in Canada
Scotty I always like when you say oh I had the customer always there's a reason
Great, until you need to replace the battery in 10 years.
Look up 2010 Lexus hybrids. Cheap! Why? Now look up the cost of replacing that battery.
Your 2nd and 3rd choice are great. I would not buy a hybrid. My son had one (plug in hybrid over 55k) 2 years ago. It was owned 1 year from new and spent 8 of those months in the dealership and corporate. He got the money back for it minus the miles used. They never did repair it. One note about my sons hybrid: when it quit you could not drive it with the gas engine. There is a whole lot of electronic controls that allow the vehicle to switch back and forth from electric to gas and back.
It depends on the hybrid technology. A lot of so called "hybrids" are actually just EVs with a range extender powered by gasoline. The Chevy Volt works this way, for example.
In that case, there is no gas engine. There is only a gas generator which powers the electric motor when the battery is used up. If the electric motor is damaged, filling the generator with gas won't help.
What car did your son have?
Yes Which car and year?
Mazda for me please
Hey, Scotty! On the vid, you show a Thinkcar scanner. Which model? In your DIY tools, you listed other brands. Please clarify!
Honda. Best 1985 to 2002. At least my opinion. Hated the 2003 vtec civic, my 1989 civic would run circles around it. The 1999 civic was decent, wasn't vtec.
My favorites were the 1989 civic ex 4dr automatic and the 1985 Accord 5 spd.
Scotty talking quietly in the last minute scared me!!
Buenos días scotty siento no poder hablar inglés soy de Latinoamérica pero miro tu canal quiero comprar una rav4 híbrida quería saber si es una buena elección para Latinoamérica de antemano muchas gracias
I would never get sn ele truc car, if I ever even get a hybrid, I would never get a plug in hybrid.
1. Hummer EV
2. Ford Lightning
3. Chevy Cruze
You don’t tell someone you are going to put it on and then say all well it’s already on!! So who knows if it ever was put on or not cus now u can’t see the difference from b4/after (ceramic coating! Is a scam at dealers anyways!)
You can get a spray on wax and spray on ceramic coating and full wash for $25 or less at a CAR WASH! Save your $1,000
You’d think if CVTs really saved the manufacture that much $ to put in a economy car then they’d save double the $$ putting the cheaper CVT in even the lux high end cars that sell well…
So it can’t be about saving $ on an already low end car. Cus they’d do it to all models.
Toyota hybrids use an Ecvt, totally different animal , it's not at all like the cvt in a Corolla which has a launch gear.

Will "time" deplete plug-in/hybrid batteries or consumption (by repeated usage, charging and recharging)?
Chrysler/Dodge and Ford ? I haven't watched the video yet, so this is my guess .
He suggested a Dodge Hellcat but the phone ran out of tape.
I had my money on Fiat, Volkswagen and BMW 😆
Other than the 2004-2005 Mazda 6 isport, the Kia Stinger is the only 4 door hatchback sedan that isn't a luxury brand that I could find.
There's the Honda Civic hatchback and the Subaru Impreza, there used to be the Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback too
The Toyota cvt isn’t cheaper because it’s lesser quality than a regular automatic. It’s cheaper because it’s simpler. All of the complexity of an automatic transmission is replaced by a simple planetary gear system, an electric motor and tons and tons of computer control. I was nervous about my cvt until I binge watched a bunch of videos on how their cvts work.
All electric cars should sound like the Jetsons cars.
Scotty hated hybrid always b4
Toyota will be 100% hybrid or BEV in 5 years. In 25 the Rav will only be hybrid
I hate the engine stopping and starting at every light.
