I’m instantly transported back to my formative teenage years in 1978/79 discovering early electronica. Being Boiled and Empire State Human got me into The Human League. Still sounds great today ❤
Fabulous song. I remember dancing to it in Heroes club in Sunderland when I was 19, followed by Planet Earth, Planet Claire, Hong Kong Garden, and Tainted Love.
Tbh a lot of the early stuff shows they had very little musical theory knowledge. It does however scream raw talent to put together what they did. Funnily enough once they did know their stuff musically speaking it turned off a lot of early fans but it sure put them in the history books and raised them into the stratosphere. Btw I prefer the early stuff :)
Me too! All the Brit bands from the 80s used their real accent when singing. After the 80s everyone covers their accent with an American one. It's weird.
Absolutely fantastic that someone out there had the taste to request Johnny Walker to play this today 9th January 2022 on Sounds Of The 70's! Good on yer mate!
I envy anyone who was lucky enough to see the early Human League live. There are a few decent audio bootlegs (I especially like their sparse version of 'Perfect Day'), but it must have been great to have been there, hearing it in person and with the slide projections and lighting.
Play to win. Un pedazo de canción de pop funk, con una línea de bajo y un solo de sintetizador alucinantes. Me encantan tus vídeos. Saludos desde España.
Great track and still holds up . I lost my brother recently and remember him buying it back in 1980. In the year 1980 it felt like aliens had arrived on the music scene. Bands like OMD , Visage, ultravox and John Fox. A time when Britain led the way musically. Everything since has been a rehash of music from the past. Absolutely no originality today. Back then bands had the freedom to experiment and take chances. Today the charts are about cruise ship style acts and ten apenny bland singers doing vocal acrobatics.
100% . I am glad I was 11 years old coming to Europe with my parents from Latin America . Hearing this BRIT ELECTRO music was the best that EUROPE has given me musical wise. Thank YOU BRITSSS
Empire State Human is in my TOP Human LEague tracks and THE strongest track on Reproduction. As a whole Reproduction as an album falls a bit flat in sections and I prefer Travelogue for the first incarnation of The Human League. Empire State Human is just WOW though as is Blind Youth, The Path Of Least Resistance, The Circus Of Death and Being Boiled.
Das war ihre beeindruckensde Zeit. Und diese ist zeitlos. Ich damals 18 heute 62. Welche Musiker schreibt heute Stücke die in 40 Jahren noch gehört werden.
Since I was very young I realized I never wanted to be human size So I avoid the crowds and traffic jams They just remind me of how small I am Because of this longing in my heart I'm going to start the growing up I'm going to grow now and never stop Think like a mountain, grow to the top Tall, tall, tall, I want to be tall, tall, tall As big as a wall, wall, wall, as big as a wall, wall, wall And if I'm not tall, tall, tall, then I will grow, grow, grow Because I'm not tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall Tall, tall, tall, I want to be tall, tall, tall As big as a wall, wall, wall, as big as a wall, wall, wall And if I'm not tall, tall, tall, then I will grow, grow, grow Because I'm not tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall, tall With concentration My size increased And now I'm fourteen stories high At least!! Such a huge fan of the early stuff like the dignity of labour e.p and reproduction. So many great records from them in the early days. They were kinda ahead of their time really so people struggled to understand what they were doing back then. I loved kraftwerk and Moroder so for me they were a logical step in the right direction. I would love to see an original line up tour.
I believe back when it was released all the nightclubs and Disco's played it and all the young people went mad for it,so I was told by my older sister.
I still own the Korg 770 featured in this video, bought from the band in the v early 80s. Working beautifully and still using it.
That is so cool ! - have you ever considered selling it ?, would need some proof of course ?. Let me know.
mark watson Hi Mark - no, I’d never sell it, it’s been a part of most of my life now!
Nice
took my breath away!
Privileged! You have a unique treasure! Someone out there has G. Numan gear from the '80s working too.
This is for me their most underrated song. What an amazing and catchy song, I can't get enough of it!
Most agreed mate.
Big as a wall.
You're right.
just heard it for the first time, and it's as fun and easy as a children's rhyme! They will be the next big thing of 2023.
Got the cd
I’m instantly transported back to my formative teenage years in 1978/79 discovering early electronica. Being Boiled and Empire State Human got me into The Human League. Still sounds great today ❤
Reproduction and Travelogue were both ground breaking LPS . Early Human League were just superb
Was cutting edge at the time and still stands up all these years later
Still one of the best electronic bands ever. Tubeway Army. John Foxx. Oh the memories! 🖤
Reproduction is one of the greatest albums of all time. It was released in 1979 but always sounds like the future.
I totally agree!! :) brought the album 2 years ago after hearing this song in Lollypop Chainsaw
Flexi disc lol
I totally agree !! Dark and "badass - bass synth - sounds !!! Love it so much !!!
Got It on Cd.Could be a good new wave track too.
If it still sounds like the future…. there has been stagnation since the release.
Fabulous song. I remember dancing to it in Heroes club in Sunderland when I was 19, followed by Planet Earth, Planet Claire, Hong Kong Garden, and Tainted Love.
Interesting that it was still popular in 1981, 2 years after it was released.
@@ajs41 Yeah, some songs just take a while to get anywhere, I remember they were playing Tainted Love about 6 months before it was a hit.
I've always loved the early League. It's a shame they don't play much of it live any more.
Human league still one of the most severely underrated bands of Modern Ages
New wave at it's best and Phil Oakey - what a handsome man.
That's one hell of an infectious chorus!
Should have been a massive hit. Maybe it was too modern for 1979.
That is actually a magical incantation chant...
I'm 49 years old. I was seeing Bono's Surrender show in NYC and this song played before he came out. I absolutely love it and can't stop playing it
Yep - 41 years old, still sounds like the future. Synths sounds are hypnotising. You'd love to go for a night out with The HL.
I've actually drank with Joe Callis a couple of times. Decent guy. 👍
This is a song! You can rock out and sing along with this!😅So happy to find this.
Early Human League is the best Human League.
Their first album is a masterpiece.. very underrated
DARE is a work of genius though.
Travelogue is pretty good even though Phil was disappointed with it apparantly at the time.
And Cabaret Voltaire too.
Imagine Phil doubling up with the remaining as an encore to a tour, the original big singles 'Boiled' and ' Life Kills ' ?
I'm young 19 years old boy and i listening old synthpop song from 70s and that shit is underrated asf.
Real talent, real musicians, real instruments, REAL MUSIC
Tbh a lot of the early stuff shows they had very little musical theory knowledge. It does however scream raw talent to put together what they did. Relax dude. Ya sound like a boomer.
They were just brilliant. I also love that you can hear his Yorkshire accent slightly in the spoken part.
Me too! All the Brit bands from the 80s used their real accent when singing. After the 80s everyone covers their accent with an American one. It's weird.
@@champflowahbomb7630 Elvis Costello, the Police and Duran Duran didn't
This song got engrave into mind while trying to obtain No Fear Of Heights trophy for Lollipop Chainsaw. What a banger!! ❤🔥❤🔥
Iconic Human League along with Being Boiled.
Absolutely fantastic that someone out there had the taste to request Johnny Walker to play this today 9th January 2022 on Sounds Of The 70's! Good on yer mate!
Was there when they performed this at Hammersmith Palais 1980 - holiday 80 tour - not boasting just lucky "!!
Travelogue et reproduction , les 2 meilleurs albums de Human League . Je ne m'en lasserai jamais .
On est bien d'accord.
@@Tiisiphone Tout pareil
Damn, the memories, I was 18 and went crazy over this.
🥓🍳
That elevator stage in Lollipop Chainsaw always been pain in the ass & this song has stuck in my head somehow, in a good way.
A huge influence for me. It sounds incredible. I still hear this being played in clubs as it has one hell of a synth bassline. So catchy.
Finally the official video on the web,
Have this album and love it!!!!
First album is the best in my opinion.
Four favourite Human League tracks: Sound of the Crowd, Love Action, Empire State Human & Tell Me When !
THANK YOU Human League for changing my life with your music so a head of its time
Heard this in a record store. Asked the guy who it was. Bought it. Left.
I love this song. I had the privilege of hearing Phil sing it live in 2010
Dig the crazy camera work!!!! Cor Blimey, 1979 and the 80's were about to be unleashed on the world, brilliant!!
This song is perfect, can't beat that era
Happy 45th birthday Empire 🙂
Recall the genre+era was crazy then it's a classic in its own feat😊
Being 17 again and listening to one of the greatest albums ever
Master piece

Director: Hey Martyn, how many synths you want?
Martyn:Yes.
top class. still rocks!
One of my favorite songs.
Just awesome, this band are the dogs... still love em all these years later
Total new wave
I envy anyone who was lucky enough to see the early Human League live. There are a few decent audio bootlegs (I especially like their sparse version of 'Perfect Day'), but it must have been great to have been there, hearing it in person and with the slide projections and lighting.
This is a bop
They were super cool back then
My favorite early era song!
I've discovered this song yesterday. I can't stop listening to it!
ANTH BLE I discovered it 39 yrs ago and still love it!

Listen to the whole Reproduction album, would be my advice.
same with me! Discovered it yesterday and can't get enough!

Love the League... seeing them in Brisbane next month :)
My favorite The Human League song .................. greetings of Perú ...
One of the greatest albums ever, never tire of it 👍
One of my top 10 albums of all time. It's a weird album because it's both very dystopian and optimistic at the same time.
This is when they were fantastic

Love and dance! We are all old together!
Always loved this.
We danced to this at the Coatbridge hotel disco. Never got tired of it.
Still makes the hair on my neck stand up when that sweep kicks in

Their most melodic tracks
I love both incarnations of the League
I'm out there raising this song's profile all by myself by linking it at every opportunity.
I'm with you all the way.
In 2019 I thought that it is sang by some nowadays project. Just amazing! The Human League are out of time!

Those dark times in secondary school when music such as this was played and now it all strangely makes sense
