Legend has is Steve is still watching Trouba whiff on that check attempt!
That was a hilarious clip. 😂
That might be the funniest Dangit I’ve ever seen
It needs sooooo many different sound effects added to it.....that would make comedy gold!
This joke will never get old! 🤣
Loved the 80s sitcom music for the final replay
Goalie helmet off should be an automatic stoppage. No penalty because Morrissey pushed Benn. Draw in the Jets’ defensive zone. Goalies without a helmet is so dangerous, never mind the fact the hit to the head he took was pretty scary and he was face down laying there
Agreed. That's a situation where player safety should trump gameplay.
Agreed, except I would make one change to this: Delay of game penalty to Josh Morrissey. Situations like this happen more frequently than I suspect most people realize - whether a goal is scored as a result or not - and it should be akin to a player knocking off his own net to prevent a scoring chance.
@@Zihark8 Chris said it perfectly but...what are you talking about?
No. Because then we get goalies that purposefuly throw their masks off in an attempt to stop the play. Make it so that if they do it on purpose, minor penalty for delaying the game AND make this a reviewable offense and then I will agree with you.
@@michalsnaiberg2734 It is already penalty for a goalie or any player, but I can promise you no goalie will throw their mask away to get stoppage. The game is too fast and dsngerous to stop moving/being ready for a save to spend time yanking the mask off.
Edit: And yes there are situstions they could do that but it is already a penalty, illegal equipment.
*Oooh! I'd like to congratulate Steve on his new position at Foot Locker! Way to go, man!*
If you're a referee...REFEREE THE GAME!
Steve needs to start saying this whenever referees do things not referee like
If you're a referee... REF THE REE
Yes. This is the most accurate comments on this video
I was at that penguins game and as soon as that hit happened and I saw the 2 on 0, I immediately went "oh this is gonna be in dang-its isn't it"
😅
Well, that's what happens when your team has a penchant for whining about everything, as much as i don't blame them for being upset haha
I was at that Avs game haha. Everyone in the crowd kept hollering, "no injury, no penalty?" So bizarre
I joked on Reddit when Dallas got a high sticking call in the 3rd asking if there was an injury!
That was even confusing for me as a stars fan. Pretty clear-cut penalty. But nada
My first viewing was, "Yeah, total penalty..." but then Steven mentioned about his own stick hitting him and I rewatched it...I didn't see his stick on the first viewing but it definitely leaves room for doubt and the ref had the best view (looking right at in from the corner)...
@@benjamingoodberlet7582 From my point of view Marchement never got his stick under Mason's
@@joseflustig2369 we have the same point of view...the best you can say is, "From the angle we have, I don't believe Marchement's stick is under Mason's." But your thoughts, like my thoughts, are just a guess.
That Trouba miss never stopped being funny, I'm dying
Saw the trouba miss hit live, knew it was gonna be in here! Was not disappointed 😂😂
Sums up the rags season so far.
Same sorta effort he put into his time in Winnipeg
Woulda smacked him if it landed tho 😂
He wasn't even aiming for the head like he usually does :P
I mean, Hischier did lose the puck to Kakko while dodging the hit, so it kinda worked 😅
The Oilers one made me laugh the most, it's just funny to see EVERYBODY scramble, the sound of a quadrillion sticks is even funnier 😂
It's like junior sport with 8 year olds where everyone goes for the ball/puck at the same time, and there's just this mob of bodies going after the ball..... 😂😂
I'm not saying Campbell has been good but with defense like that I'm not sure what you're expecting out of your goalie lol
His commentary made me laugh pretty hard, rough two periods that game but so glad the Oilers came back and won
The sound of that reminded me of a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos for some reason......
@@ddlee84 oh my freaking goodness you nailed it
The intro plays: "SCOTT!"
My wife: "Oh God, what did you do now?"
Me: Dang it.
The Kraken/Kings game was chaos hockey at its absolute best and dang-est!
* dang-itest
Oilers be like: "The clump, boys! Just like we practiced! The clump!"
Best Play name in sports history.
LMAO 🤣
Time to see if Milan Borjan makes it for his “if you’re a goaltender, TEND THE GOAL” in Canada’s final 2022 World Cup game 😅
I wish that these goalies would stay in the net
@@ethanoneill2792 On my way to violate this principle at my own game tonight 😂
@@ethanoneill2792 just not how it works, if you'd understand hockey you would understand the importance of a goalie who can play the puck.
5 oilers PLUS the goaltender in the crease at the same time!? Wow that's compact!! That sequence kinda reminds me these cartoonish fights where all you see is a dust cloud with random fists and feet poking out 😂
That Trouba miss was glorious.
That would have been an epic hip check though if he landed it
Elbow check*
Fully agree with your take on the Hellebuyck call. Think the definition of imminent scoring opportunity was stretched a bit too far on that one.
When theres 17 goals in a game there must be some hat picks as well.
I watched the whole game... there wasn't
@@thestoneman1336 Definitely there wasn't 😂
It was a really exciting game to watch though, a lot of fun was had laughing like an idiot at both teams.
A few MORE dangits from the kraken-kings game:
- just before taking the too many men call, two kings just sort of… ran into each other? And fell down? They managed not to let the Kraken have a breakaway, but still. Come on! That one’s not nearly as much of a dangit as the ones mentioned here, though.
- ALSO! That goal by the Kraken where the puck goes straight up into the air, and then falls back down behind the goaltender and into the net. Nothing to say there but “dang it.”
Just to add one more: Petterson breaking his stick after OT because the game didn't go his way, I guess. To be honest as a goalie, I'd be hella mad too if I was leaking 3 goals the same exact way... Dang it
The real Dang it is that the predators didn't play for an ENTIRE WEEK
Opps
Eh, that's just water under the bridge. Wait, no, it was all over the arena.
You're so right about the stupidity of calls made wrongly when the whole arena and TV audience knows what really happened, not just the Marchment/Manson play. There have been multiple incidents in the last number of years when this happens for all kinds of things. Including the more violent versions of high sticks, cross checking, slashing, kneeing.....where a player is hurt enough that he can't immediately get up. And the audience is litterally pointing at the center ice screen showing a replay, and the refs are PURPOSELY averting their eyes. Why isn't there a new rule by now that allows refs the discretion of stopping play (which it is anyways) and checking an iPad at the timekeepers box for a few seconds of replay?
The Hellebuyck thingy: No matter how fine you construct the rules, there will always be a situation that doesn't quite fit. Sometimes it's okay to say "I dunno." The fear in blowing the play dead the second a goalie loses his mask is that on nights when the posts are holding solid, Mat Murray will be losing his mask left right and center. The fear in allowing play to continue is that a goalie is going to get seriously hurt. The rule, as it exists and as it is applied leaves it to the Ref's discretion even if it doesn't explicitly say so. I think leaving it open like that addresses both fears in the least imperfect way.
TBF the Stars had posession all way through all that all though if the Jets managed to get the puck the play goes dead i see no issue unless Benn did go through without getting pushed then the play goes dead and a possible penalty
I was hoping for a comment on the walking Dang-It that is Jack Edwards… hopefully Maroon will be in Hat Picks!
I knew Both Durzi's pass and the 9-8 loss would be here. I was waiting for it. I actually said out loud when durzi made the pass "that's gonna be a dang it"😂😂
Same. I had a convo with a few others on the Durzi pass. And we all knew that the 9-8 game was a dang it in the bag
1st Ref Dang it: In my mind, as long as they don't purposefully remove their mask, a maskless goalie is an immediate stoppage.
2nd Ref Dang it: I kinda am on their side for this one. I know some would want the ''I saw it any way'' rule, but It would be hard since it would create a precedent for rules to be just ignored. That would make the league even more confusing than it already is.
Even if they remove it themselves it should be a stoppage of play. But they should however get a delay of game or awarded goal to the opposing team.
Of course ignoring high sticking rules is DEFINITELY not confusing. Not even a fan complaint, this went the other way in the Avs Rangers game
I would like it if the refs could review for “intent” on high-sticking rather than “is it bleeding?”. That would open the door for review in cases like this.
@@flippy6952 I agree, mostly, because I think there is more nuance than that. Of course a goalie that remove their masks voluntarily should be punished for it while the play stops, I actually think that depending on the scenario, they could consider awarding a goal to the other team. I can Def see a goaler noticing McDavid coming on a break and take a 2 minute instead of a 1v1 against him. I left that scenario out simply because I thought the punishment for a goalie doing it was another discussion that was irrelevant to the main discussion.
@@WhiteSekii That is already in the rules. If a goalie intentionally stops the play with throwing a stick, remove helmet or knock the net loose during a breakaway is an awarded goal. At least that's what I observe but not sure if written truthfully.
I’m honestly kind of surprised when there is a new episode of Steve’s dang-it’s and the Ottawa senators aren’t in it every time 😂😂
Steve:is anyone good at reading lips?
Me: *slowly looks at Jomboy Media*
The job he did on the tkachuk lemieux biting was absolutely legendary. Was actually my introduction to jomboy.
I had the same thought and was hoping to see him comment what was said.
I was CONVINCED you were talkinga about Foligno yelling at the ref and getting 19 minutes in penalties lol
Thank you for showing the nico near miss 5 times. I needed to see that over and over and over.
The Stars/ Jets game was a tough one. Something similar happened to Ben Bishop during the playoffs against the blues and he took a puck to the throat. That dropped him like a sack of holy potatoes and the blues scored while he was down. The ruling was if I remember correctly was that while the blues had possession of the puck there was a scoring opportunity and they won that game because of that goal. So when I saw the jets/stars game it made me think back to that. I dunno, I am not an expert on this but Steve makes a good point, where does the league draw the line. Someone could get seriously hurt, but other side of it, if the pressure is getting to the goalie, they might start diving more. Thoughts?
I say the "intention to blow the whistle" rule should be ignored here. As soon as the goalie loses his mask the ref blows the whistle and if the puck is not in the net by the time the whistle is blown, the scoring chance was not imminent enough. I'm sure there's a point where goalies will start diving, but idk. Maybe if the ref stops play for a presumed goalie injury the goalie has to leave the ice until at least the next stoppage? Would prevent diving, though may also encourage some goaltenders to put their health at risk too much...
I don’t think he was faking an injury as much as going turtle to protect himself from the puck.
@@donnadoyawanna1 the way his neck got bent in the hit, he was actually making sure it wasn't broken.
I would love to hear Mason Marchment’s perspective on that play. He goes back to the bench and says boys why am I still with you? The whole team looks at him and goes, I don’t know bro.
Hey Steve, I kinda think on the Helleyebuck play, the correct way to handle it should be you blow the play dead because you can’t have a goalie getting shot at with no helmet - but since the play stoppage was caused by the defending team and in an imminent scoring situation, I’d give the Stars a penalty shot. The problem is it’s hard to write a uniform rule that covers all situations where the goalie loses his mask but I think that’s the only change I could really get behind.
'Play the Whistle' is honestly one of the sports mantras i had drilled into my head by every coach for Soccer OR Hockey for my entire sports-playing career - wild to see multiple Penguins NOT do this in OT vs the Canes
As the gentleman behind the Avs bench. I was simply applauding the fun both teams were having and the amazing decision the refs made to allow them to hit each other in the face with big sticks
So my thinking for the goalie mask question: if an attacking player is forced into the goalie by a defender, and the helmet is knocked loose - blow the play dead, but award a power play. If ghere was an eminent scoring chance, make it a penalty shot
Hard to find any team in the NHL like LA that manages to screw it up so many times without being able to see the historical fun in it all. Thanks LA for all the good laughs you give us viewers.
That Trouba "Hit?" Was so bloody funny I nearly wet myself watching the game XD
Steve’s the only reason im subbed to this channel i come back every thursday😂
Thought there was gonna be a moment from the Avs/Stars game... but I thought it was gonna be the "whoopise" turnover that lead to the Mack goal, lol
Benn has been doing some great things with the puck this season, but that was not one of them.
As a Rangers fan I knew we were gonna lose to the Devils. But after that Trouba miss, I KNEW we were gonna lose to the Devils
commenting on the Jets goalie decision: idc why that goal went in, if a goalie is down and hurt that's priority stop play
Yeah. I'm a Jets fan so naturally I'm bitter about that goal counting, but i don't care what team it is, if the goalie is laying on the ice for that long the play should have been stopped long ago.
Years ago there were players who faked injuries in order to get a play stoppage. So they changed the rule instead of simply giving delay of game penalties to players who faked being injured. Now play for the most part has to continue, even when a player is barely able to stand up. Maybe they changed the rule again or something, but that's what I heard in regards to player injuries during play.
16:07 Lol I thought those were the Thrashers out there with those Avalanche reverse retros.
All right! Another week without the Red Wings being in the Dang-Its! We weren't in the Hat Picks either, but I'll take what I can get
I feel like there should be some way to resume the game after a stoppage that isn't a face off. In the Hellebuyck situation, i think the ideal solution would be something like, the mask comes off, play stops, they make sure he's okay, and then play resumes with the stars keeping possession. like they give the puck to Robertson at the point and no jets players are allowed within 10 feet of him till the ref starts play. Not saying it should work exactly like that, but something like that.
That would never work….because it would be different with every referee’s interpretation…who had possession, where they had possession etc etc etc …..
That's a cool idea, I just think it would be too complicated to implement something like that and there would be a lot of loopholes. It would just cause more controversy over time.
Nah no need for some new overly complicated and intricate way to start the play. Just stop play whenever a mask comes off. Maybe review the play and determine if it was intentional. If it was hand out a harsh penalty. Double minor or even a major to really discourage intentionally losing the mask
Once the puck leaves about a foot from the goalie’s crease, the play is not an immediate scoring opportunity. That is the bases of my argument.
They should have a called the play dead once the stars passed the puck away from the crease. Taking a shot against someone who doesn’t have their mask makes me sick to my stomach. Tipping it into the goal right after hellybuck went down would have been a good goal. Surely controversial, but allowing a wrist shot while the goalie’s mask was off shouldn’t happen. If hellybuck got back up that shot surely would have went straight to the face, which no one wants to see EVER.
Exactly! A puck being slid in is an immediate scoring opportunity. His helmet coming off at 21.9 sec the puck went in at 19.5 that is not.
NGL when you said ''wanna see bad hockey'' and saw a Rangers Jersey i was expecting another Trouba missed hit XD
#14 and #18 refs have hate on for the Avs. Giving Avs 5 penalties in the 2nd a few being a little phantom calls. That was a high stick on Manson. Hope you guys review the Bruins announcer on Maroon, that was totally uncalled for. People wonder why fans are now throwing things on the ice because the refs are bad.
Mackinnon got high sticked in the 3rd period that was not called either.
Lots of Stars representation in this one. I guess having Scott Wedgewood making dumb plays with the puck makes up for some of the dang-its that benefited us.
One note: this video could cold-open with as much of the broadcast intro to the Kings-Kraken game you can legally play, followed by a Spongebob 'a few minutes later' transition, queue SCREAMING STEVE, *roll intro*
Everyone in the house blew a head gasket when we heard that ref say "no injury no penalty" 😤😤😤
This is the MAIN reason why I’ve never understood why players shove people into their own goalies. I’ve seen more goalies get injured because the opposing player was pushed into the net, or tripped at full speed, into the goalie. The Stars shouldn’t get their goal taken away if that’s the case, and the goal was within a second of the mask being shoved off like this
It was longer than a second, which is why fans are arguing about what words the rulebook doesn't actually say actually mean. (It says scoring opportunity, not scoring chance, which is meaningful in the sense that scoring chance has a specific NHL statistical definition, but I don't think scoring opportunity does. Pedantic semantics, but rules are like laws and what they do not say is a big deal in how to interpret what they do say.). I am a goalie fan, though, and while I think this is a good goal by the rulebook as it exists today, I definitely question why this is written the way it is. The situation room's review was only for goaltender interference, too, and never mentioned a missed stoppage. I am fairly certain any missed stoppage that isn't a missed penalty can be reviewed now, so it's a dang-its that they didn't acknowledge that there were two things that could have been reviewed, even if it was just to clarify what the league thinks the mask stoppage verbiage is intended to mean.
As a Stars fan who watched the St. Louis Blues score while an obviously injured Ben Bishop lay on the ice beside the net back in 2019, I thought that rule should have changed as a result of that play. Because of the way goalie equipment is made, any vulnerable goalie is in danger when a puck comes flying at them at NHL speeds.
Since they didn't change the rule, the Jets will get no sympathy from me.
Maybe they'll change the rule now.
You'd complain if that exact same thing happened to your goalie. It's an awful rule. As soon as the goalie's mask unintentionally goes off, the play should be blown dead.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 did you read the whole comment?
If there's going to be a 5ft. rule, perhaps a drawn line around the benches to help with knowing where 5ft is?
Solution to the stars/jets question, benn and hellebuyck duke it out at center ice
Steve you missed a big opportunity to say "one more final bonus dang it" and then proceed to show the Trouba clip one last time 🤣
I was totally depressed when my Rangers gave up 4 goals in the 3rd period against Edmonton when leading 3-0. That is a catastrophic failure of the 4th. kind.
Yep I had to go do something else after the second period and thought with Igor in net, this is a lock. So pissed to come back and see the final. More pissed to see that there wasn't even mcdavid heroics involved either
Per the Stars’ goal vs Winnipeg, I could see the refs’ point in not blowing it dead, except for one thing: when the Stars gained possession of the puck, it was a player behind the net who first gained possession. There is no imminent scoring opportunity, because he is behind the net. He has to make a play to create an imminent scoring opportunity, which means that he doesn’t have an imminent scoring opportunity himself, which means that the puck should have been blown dead.
The call on the ice is wrong. The referee made a dang-it.
Yet when a play is off-side 12 touches before a goal, it still apparently influenced the scoring opportunity enough to call it back for missed stoppage, so I don't think the league is super concerned about how long something takes to develop.
11:13 I'm sorry, Steve, but the glow-in-the-dark aspect is actually cool
Regarding the oilers/rangers play: “you don’t mean that weird play where I run around and act like I’m lost do you?”
Even as a stars fan, the answer regardless of who causes a goalies mask to come off should definitely be to blow the play dead for their safety
DGB had a good idea to curb thus: If the goalie is down and mask off, blow the play dead. If the attacking team has the puck, a DoG penalty is given to defense. If the defending team has the puck, the play is simply blown dead. If the attacking team has the puck and an imminent scoring chance, a goal is automatically awarded. If goalie protection is the aim, the penalty and goal don't matter since we're keeping the guy safe in a vulnerable spot.
Love these. Thanks Steve and Crew and Drew!
Probably the best dang its of the season
If we want safety first with the thrill of bodies getting demoed, player safety should come first. Goalie looses mask then an automatic whistle and plays called dead, if at the whistle it’s come to the attention the mask was off before the whistle then same rule applies, at the point the mask is dislodged the play is called dead. Ruling in this one should be no goal. If they can review a major, they can review other player safety concerns.
That Kraken Kings game was the first NHL game I've ever watched and I was entertained as heck. Bought a jersey (is that what you call em) the next day. Go Kraken!
If we start going by the "no injury, no penalty" logic, hockey will become like soccer where players end up faking injuries to make sure that the penalty is called.
Another kraken and kings box score said START/OT when the game winner was scored before being changed to FINAL/ OT
At 4:11 of the video it is funny just watch the time change
On the point about shot speed in the "old days" being half of what todays players shoot. Bobby Hull had shots recorded at 100MPH. Now THAT'S a Dang it!
Glad you mentioned that the Penguins could've been called for offsides
love these videos, also love that 1/5th of the video was the kraken/kings game haha
definately hilarious after the 3rd time
"No injury, No penalty" - nice print to T-Shirt, i think :)
For the Stars Jets game, the rule should be:
1. Blow the play dead. Don't endanger a goalie.
2. Review the play. If it's found that Benn was shoved into Helly by a Jets player, then give the Jets a delay of game penalty. Otherwise, give Benn a penalty for GI.
I called that horn at the end of regulation. Perfect👌
you forgot the leafs goaltender kicking the net off against the wild three times
Do clock problems occur more often in LA? I remember several years ago the Kings scoring a buzzer-beating GWG when the clock wasn't started on a faceoff.
About time to start "If you're a referee, REF THE GAME!"
The only thing that could potentially justify that non high stick call due to non injury Karma from when the Avs got a power play on a high stick that should not have been called against the Rangers because replays cannot be looked at for the minor despite everyone seeing what really happened because rules ARE FROM HOCKEY GODS!!!!! Also that was not the only high sticking call against the avs in that game..... Great win I was in the crowd but still some dang its.
That Penguins dang-it is the hockey equivalent of arguing an out in baseball while the ball is still live.
I'm suprised the absolute airball goal the sharks scored against vancouver isn't in here
I mean, I'm not huge on my hockey rules, I used to watch a decade ago and I'm just starting to get back into it, but a player being face down and motionless on the ice should be an immediate stoppage of play regardless of whether or not it's the goalkeeper
I was at the Stars Avs game and let me tell you, after that high stick missed call, that ref was in danger. Never seen 20,000 people that mad at one person before. Every time the refs would do anything from that point they’d either get bood or met with “refs you suck” chants.
Only positive thing is a little bit after this Josh Manson CREAMED Marchment. Penalty was called on that one though lol
That was a really fun game. My sons first live for this birthday and was a great time.
Those sharks sweaters are a dang it
I can read lips very well and the guy said "let's have fun out here". Maybe it was "get the puck out of here". Nevermind, I'm no good at reading lips 😂
Another great video. If the goalie's helmet is knocked off, the play should be stopped. As for the rule, if an opposing player is knocked into the goalie by the goalie's teammate it shouldn't be a penalty. If he makes contact without being forced into him, that should be a penalty.
Looking forward to the Tend the Goal Dang it of Markstrom next week.
For real
The ref on the high stick non-calls should have used more words. I don't think he meant no injury means no penalty, but rather, "No injury. No penalty.". They're two separate things. He should have said, "Play was stopped because of an apparent injury, but there was no injury. There was no penalty called on the play."
If the only Dang-It the Bruins have been in so far this year is them missing an open-net in a game they won, I'm more than okay with that. Also, those reverse retros of SJ are a 10/10.
All I need is that Jamie Ben was in play, NO GOAL! LOLOL
The conversation around hellebuyck getting his mask knocked off should not be centred around whether or not it’s goalie interference. HIS MASK WAS OFF FOR 4-5 SECONDS. I’ve seen goalies take a puck off the mask, shake it off because a strap came loose, and the play is immediately blown dead. This one should have been as well.
Yeah, same thing happened to Kuemper. No call. If you're required to wear certain things for safety, if that safety is compromised, play should stop.
Goalie without a mask is a stoppage every time. Opposing player does it, goaltender interference. Goalie does it himself, delay of game. This scenario, I wouldn’t be opposed to a delay of game penalty against the Winnipeg player, as the stars had an imminent scoring chance. In the case of the SCF goal, as much as I hate adding more subjectivity, add a qualifier on whether the goalie’s mask coming off impeded their ability to make a save might not be the worst thing
Rangers blew a three goal lead in the third period, losing in regulation to the Oilers, and the only mention of the game in hat picks or dang-its is one of the Rangers goals 💀💀💀
Re Jets/Stars: Simply for player safety, it should have been blown dead.
Imminent scoring chance ... right ... because the goalie was laid out on the ice without a mask!
Watching the stars game live when Wedgewood left the goal. I was yelling....if your a goaltender tend the goal!!!
But show truba makes it better lmao
If you're the Penguins, you just have to play on until the whistle. Don't get distracted by what should have been a penalty, everyone has seen that happen before and you have to keep your head in the game. Yeah, it probably should have been boarding, thankfully Rust wasn't injured but they didn't call the penalty. You got to keep playing. Just ask the Bruins in game 5 of the finals.
Also I think a bonus dang-it for the lady at 9:27 who appears to have a blanket or a pillow.
NGL I didn't like the Vegas Reverse Retro but the numbers on that thing look pretty slick.
Please make sure to include Dylan Cozens in the Hat Picks! He's on fire this year
if the goal with ben bishop in 2019 playoffs vs blues counts then the goal vs jets should 100% count
the real dang it in that edmonton nyr game was how new york let edmonton comeback and win the game
